And everybody is to another exciting episode of home, kid insider. You've got me, as always, Andrew hera as your host, diving into the post effects, giving a week. I hope everyone had some amazing holidays.

IT was definitely full of, you know, food in begin, not as much shopping this year. Typically I go, where would I go with some family and do some black friday type of the in store things that could tradition. But this year my unt was out in new york.

So no, I just stayed home. We did a lot of baking. The sheer faith made, uh, some amazing like kerma apple cheesecakes.

We made some oliva. We did what else we do. I can do anything. We did that for my dad birth. They going. There was a lot of things, a lot of baking, a lot of cooking, a lot of eating, all of that. I hope all of you found some great deals on some smart homes tech.

If you as were in the market, anything I mean that includes like today you're listen this, like on lunch days like cymer monday, you can be listen this anyway to work, get to work and and find some deals. I don't I don't know anything I am going to promote you guys. But if you're looking for stuff, you know deals at apple ins, out that gum, all sorts of stuff going on regardless, we have a biggest show for you today.

Lots of news to talk about. Hopefully one of maybe the final update to the level saga on what has been going on with their matter update and the quick hands alone for you that i'm pretty excited about. So let's go head dive into this, starting off with level now to catch everybody up if you have not been following along.

Essentially, level announced their new matter upgrade programming was a little more complicated, but there was an easy enough way that you could get matter on your smart lock. Now the benefits of this are aside from having matter support, which has its own benefits, is you can also now unlock the reds of which is pretty exciting. I think that's going to give a lot of people some benefits to their lock because it's going to be quicker to respond.

That should help on battery life. Plenty of things, right? So IT overall should be a good thing.

Now when I did my update, unfortunately, hokey wasn't working IT never reenact LED. I wasn't able to continue using IT. Nothing like that.

So there was a concern of what's going on. Well, we had to come, people writing, and including James, who wrote about his experience and to and what he had learned. But I also got an a facial response from a level on the matter.

And basically they are telling me that home key should still work. That should not be a thing at all. So if home key is not working for you upon the adding A V A matter that is a bug.

Now level has escalates this issue to apple. Now apple is a supposedly investigating this, which I hope to be the case to solve this. Now, the temporary stopped up solution that has worked for many people is this, simply remove the lock again.

And then we added. Now, when you were doing this match, removing from everything, including like the home APP removing from my matter accessories that are listed, you have to remove everything first and then read. When you read d IT IT should should pop up saying eight, you want to use home key with this lock and you say, yes, like Normal, right? That's the ideal experience.

But I don't know that still gonna for everybody levels actually told me that some people have to read the lock as many as three times to get home key to work again. In the past week, I have not had time to remove and read our smart lock the three times to try to get home key to work. So I I will try to pour back to you one more time if I get this working, but that's the short version of this home you should work if you upgrade its a matter and just be prepared to possibly remove in read lock a few times, take everything to work properly.

So i'm sorry, anyone, if you have tried this for yourself, let me know. I had several view reaching out with your experiences, but please continue to do so. I want to know from all of you how many of you are having this issue in what your process has been so far? We're going to see more companies doing stuff like this.

And I think it's a great to people to learn from IT and see what issues people are experiencing with IT next in the news. This is great. Home past has received quite a major update.

This is pretty awesome. So area peers actually updated by all of his smart home related apps. Most of them just got new icons to bring them, you know, all into the same design language.

But home pass is moving to a home pass version too, with a tonal changes. Here it's it's a brand new experience, iran says, he says he was built from the ground of the Better experience for you when you need to simply maintain your home. So new features for this, which are specifically for home kit, apple home and matter.

So maintenance, a quick and simple way to signalize your home changes and do home past. We've been able to selectively choose what changes are made to avoid data corruption by false or increate changes made in home. Very handy if you have tried to sink home data between apps.

I like that there's a maintenance way to do this attachments. You can attach images, files or links to any saved accessories. So I deal here. Maybe you have a manual.

You could actually literally take a photo every page in the in instruction manual and save that in the home past so you can reference IT later. I think that's awesome. Could also just be to take photos of where the devices in your home.

He suggest that as a use case here gives you a good visual into which one of these that you're actually looking at or maybe can take a photo of of the code or whatever in the manual or on the box, anything like that? Full Q R code support home has now defaults to showing Q R code in all cases that I can code android VS scanning Q R or NFC will show A Q R code. So I think is a really handy business when we have new products rate that's support nsc.

So you should be able to tap your product, your phone there to go through the on boarding process. But you're doing this later and you're just trying to get the code out of the APP. If you had skin to be a NFC originally, may not have that code.

Is aid in the APP now IT can just do that. So even if you scan the nsc, it'll record this a number and then shows Q R code for future pairing when you need to. I think that's super helpful.

Bridge to devices. You can nail, save all of your devices, including a bridge devices which works for things like you bulbs, the akra hubs. All of those are going to benefit from bridge devices.

You can save all them individually. In addition information, you can say serial numbers, like the parent codes, if you don't know, like humble bs. They like the serial numbers on them and stuff, and you can manually hear them into the APP of you ever having struggle, struggle, bus issues.

So all that can be saved into home past, you take a photo where that ball is, which one in the sockets, or whatever at a sero number can be really handy. Violence exporting, exporting now supports marked down and CS v files. Automatic media backup is coming in a future update.

Of course, this is even more useful. Home passes backing up the other up and is export option to so otherways to protect your home data. I love IT. Now home has to did move to a subscription model, so they are requiring you to actually sign up to get future updates.

The good thing here is, here is taking, no, I wants to taking advances, which is not what I wanted to say, but iran is taking care of all the og home pass users out there. So if you have the original version of home pass that you paid for, you're going to get all these new features for free. In the future, they may be paid updates.

You are moving to the subscribe plan. But for now, your grandfather. And so amazing, I love IT this a huge update. This is the go to APP to save all your home data, all of your parent codes, all of that don't use home pass. You absolutely, there's no Better time to jump on important.

Well, speaking of matters, and that is one of the kind of the new features there of home past, we have some matter promise to talk about. So first up, there is a new matter present sensor. So this is interesting to me because I don't think there are any matter present sensors on the market.

Now I don't know this person, but they have started sharing a bunch of matter news is coming through different filings and things like that. So the handle is at cyber mod studio. Everything is like me, but then I drew so far.

But they say they are have to spur home enthusiast upset of the building on super future, electrified smart residences, bubble ball, a lot of matter stuff. So this is a some sort of of new present centre. The time becoming IT looks a little bit like the humane eye, hin like you.

You seen that, but it's a present sense for your home. So IT is matter. IT is matter over thread.

IT is battery powered ipx three, which does limit is it's not going to work outdoors. Intern a new company called a lifer L A F A E R. But IT looks pretty sleep.

I isn't very interesting to me. We have not seen a matter present sensor really kind of that. All this looks great to me.

I'm very excited. I've never heard of this brands before, so I I know nothing about IT. I don't know anything.

I don't know what this is going to coast. It's going to come to market anything like that, his male meter waves. So that's going to be your present sensing capabilities thread all batter powered.

Everything about this is a slam dunk to me. I surprised you don't have anything like this on the market. I'd love to see ever many other bigger companies that i've heard of do something like this in, and maybe we'll see one down the line.

But this is exciting. This is good at matter development, another very of product coming. I would one one hundred percent pick one of these up and put IT in my kitchen.

So flashback time, I been using the those under cabinet gesink lights, which I will have a water view out eventually hear on. They've been fantastic, but the problem has been using an emotion sensor with them. So I was using an eve motion sensor with eve, sorry, back up again.

He motion sensor with few lights. Works fantastic, but the light themselves were not create for under cabinet space, which sees new g sink lights. The light themselves are amazing, but there's no great way to automate them because using, like even the huge sensor in home kit was middling at best. So I really need the internal present sensor. It's not going to have tripped up by other things, be a little bit more reliable.

And even when the matter is adding prison sensors and even more we've talked about in this new future enhancements coming to energy and and sensing, we'll be able to have things like delay timers and the thinking of what the word that I want to use, the sensitivity that's that's the word I want to use. So all those will be coming into the home map. So that give me really interesting to see that would be my ideal set up.

So I be watching out for this, but lifer first and matter over the thread red, our sensor coming out, at least at some point, sticking with cyber mod studio. Here's a brand that that we all know. Eve apparently is launching a new product.

I'm here for IT. So the new has not been officially zed yet, right? It's not coming out of eve camp, but there is a new matter over thread.

A version of the eve motion blinds for honey comb shades makes perfect sense. We've ready to get the motor for roller blinds. We've got roller shades now were, again, honeycomb.

Some people prefer the honeycomb. Look over the roller shades. And now these are going to be supported. I really like the honeycomb de.

That's what I used down down stairs of my studio, which are from honeywell, and they're amazing or hundred dog is now honeywell. Hundred dollars is makes them love them though. So it's great to see you continuing its work with motion wise category.

I expect that we can see similar things. What eve in the past, we may have a couple simple colors coming directly from eve. There will be licensed out to other companies to create products with and offer even materials and colors and opacity, all of that stuff.

Nothing is official. Maybe will hear something about this. I see.

Yes, that would be my guess that this is making his way through the regulatory hurdles that cyber studio is able to pick this up is that we have a label of of a matter over thread, honey shade from eve. So keep an eye for that. okay? We still have more news to get to.

okay. Continuing in the news merits has some new products. They have new outdoor or smart plug design for the E A.

U. market. There's also a new a smart roller shutter bet.

Linder, I think I think this is the first for apple home. Again, more for the eu. Users, but it's for extern roller blinds.

Okay, I don't have those. So i'm peace and things together. But yeah guess is more of them in the u side of the market.

So there's now to a smart for the eu. There's roller shutter melt winder, which is the first wrap home that is out. And then there is a new temperature and humidity sensor.

Now this one does require a hub, but has a nice little backside display. So I like IT. So a few different things coming out from maris.

This isn't specifically news, but I do want to tell this in here because west reit in the show notes and deserves some love vested kind of a run down on some gov. Holiday lights. He covered like their twinkly lights, their curtain lights, their cycle style lights, their permanent outdoor lights, all of these in one single review.

There's a bunch of them that he's put together into a nice little bite size piece. So if you won't check IT out your interests learning a little bit more about gov. es.

You know how a lighting options, a link for his review is in the showers. If you are a huge user and i'm talking like a power you user, you have probably been waiting for this. And I believe I talked about IT earlier in the year.

We're one of the other big firm updates that we're coming out or with other product launches that they were doing, but they have now added multihull support. Yeah, so few hubs have a eight cap on how many lab you can text them. And Frankly, IT is not enough for bigger homes, especially sing a lot of different bulbs.

And you start adding in switch and motion also of IT, you get to that cap, kind of shocking, really easy. So now they are adding the ability to have multiple bridges associated with one account. Before you could have multiple bridges, we had like signed a different account with each of them and a management was a hassle.

All this can be now under like one umbrella, very easy to do. So new firm where update coming up for the bridge in for the huac to manage all of that. So anyone in bigger homes is relying along on huge Price, which has been, of course, ever expanding.

Now easier to manage that large amount of lights. Okay, more matter switch bt switch bunt has two new matter release. So now these really sweet ches, if you ve seen these before, he does make one others, others have them, but there these tiny, little electrical looking suckers that go into your wall.

The idea is, instead of replacing an entire, which are anything, these can go behind their speech plates to allow you to have smart controllers, mark monitoring, without replacing anything else. So they're very interesting. I added one into our bathroom and I use that to control our lights in there.

So it's a huge one, and I actually just use that as a really as a smart button to control my life acts of bulb, I think, or or nanoes bubs that we have just in the future because there's like nine of them. So there are very handy things now there's two different ones coming on the switch bg camp. So one of them there's like an orange one in a purple one.

And I know that doesn't tell you anything, but what that actually means um is one of them is designed for your standard circuits like a regular single light switches and everything like that. And the other one is designed for dry circuits, which I believe is going to be like low voltage system. So if you have any, a low voltage lights have been coming popular.

We talked about those for quite a bit, full range of voted standards, hundred to two hundred forty votes there, a little bit good like they're large. So I don't know how well this will do in the us. market.

I'm thinking these are another more of a eu thing. So these are be able to order now, but they're only available in other version in the amazon. So preter up on switch, bob, but not here in the us.

I wonder new if these are popular, we will see these continue to expand here a stateside, okay, we we basically made IT through the news. That was the news for the week. There was quite a bit a lot of new products, and that is we can over about to see coming up here in january with ce.

So just as a kind of a heads up scheduling, no next week's episode i'm going to have one of my pals dam turk on from um he's from next board is pr you know pr person to the stars or at least a lot of smart home brand. absolutely. And those over to, I know you will well, a couple of things. I still and talk about this episode. De is one another holiday things. So with all the holiday stuff going on.

Faith wanted to do something around the fireplace because we have a, we have a real fireplace, has gas and everything, but we don't use the gas for a number of reasons. First, our dog liked to use the fireplace as a little bed. Isn't this cool bed for him to see them? And so we felt bad turning into actual fireplace.

And then we did in fireplaces, became decorative with some bertie loves that we got from our cabin. And IT is pretty nice. So he was a good option.

So the problem that we always had on the holidays is there is no good way to hang like Christmas stockings. We have a mental, but it's very high up and it's not ideal for for stacking placement, right? So we had put ones on on brick and done things like that.

They weren't great. So this year he had been built like a whole thing, a whole woods thing to hang the suckers on in this guy. Garland and IT looks really pretty.

But what i'm more excited about from the smart perspective, and I see my fear part about the whole thing, is added some of smart lights into the fireplace. And IT looks really legit. Now there's a lot of ways you could go with this.

Like you could go with like some twinkly lights, like there's the festival lights from you ovie life. actually. Nano, leave everybody. Y's got some version of twinkly lights that you can use.

They would know I put around a Christmas tree and kind of bow those up underneath that, which would have some different like flashing light effects to them that would give that kind of a fiery effect going on. Person, I wasn't buying anything new, and I was a signal spot that I knew exactly what I could put in there that would work really well. So I got my hue iris, which is one of their desktop stable top lamps that is more of like the indirect lightning.

So it's meant to be kind of cast against the world to ads and like on gansler, indirect, some tinted colors and what not. I really like these laws. So i've always had to hear in the studio and we kind of brought some color were here to this edge.

But I actually not really use IT that much. So i've refers posed. It's now sitting behind the logs in our newly redesigned fireplace, and I just love the look of IT so much.

This is such a good act that people should do. They have, you have a fireplace at all. Do yourself a favor. Get some some logs, put him in there, right, and then put one of these lights behind there.

Whatever you can find that is easily contact controllable, whether it's an extra spirit you have in your home already, or if it's one you want to go actually bind and pick up before this specific urp SE. And you can kind of tailor IT a little bit Better that way. I also have the you Mickey late, if anyone seen now, spent out for a while.

So I almost put that in there because it's smaller. But my wife really likes that one, and I used that. We have a simpsons village that I have connected doing eve matter, eve energy matter outlets, so I can turn the symptoms village on and off.

And that light actually goes up against the wall behind the simpson village, and gives is like blue light that looks like an evening sky is really pretty, so didn't really steal that. So instead we have the hui is, which is again just introduct lighting. So it's a clear base with a White top on the end.

We just put IT in there behind the logue to push that light facing forward. And IT comes out through all the logs and let me kind of a tp style and honestly sit on the house like H I forget the fireplaces on wheat. I don't have a fireplace like I don't have.

There's no fire in there. But IT does sell the effect enough that I I think there's a fire going on and that's without IT that's out within any animation that just oranges light coming out through the logs. And IT looks wonderful.

It's just cozy and pretty. You'll see a version of if you watching the listen the podcast and you have the album r work up chapter I worked up. That's what IT looks like.

I am very happy with IT like I mean to my own horn. But I I was pretty happy that I came up with that after doing the whole stocking holder. So i'm pretty excited about IT.

I feel everyone pulls out smart plug in this time of year, literally, as we are setting up our tree this past week. I feel like everyone they up in that time year again, get our smart plugs out to control our Christmas story. So now i've got a handy little seam that'll do everything.

But of course, the good nightmare has always can turn everything off. So IT turns off our fireplace. Now turns off the symptoms.

S village turns off our Christ's mystery, everything in one fle soup, we have something with outdoor lights. We had gov. permanent.

Outdoor relates around the top of the house. We have garden, everything I could do. But this points in eye devices, outdoor or switch.

But it's been little hazy. I make switched to the lutrin one because that's been a much more solid experience. But we have some regular light garland, things like that neck of the smart plug es.

So there's lot to use us for those around the holidays. I'm always interesting what people do with smart lights and everything. So if he is anything different, please let me know.

I've get ten of of my desk right in front, the right now. This is the one that I like for a travel. More than anything, i've not found a travel charger that I like as much as this one.

Now there's one that's like a valley. So it's a very it's as much a larger surface area and has a wallet rim around the outside. IT looks very pretty.

I like IT a lot that my last been up for travel. Second one is a small aversion in that three and one charger, little more standard. But you know, three and one t two charger call.

But the travel charger, this is what had me hooked. And I didn't even see I didn't see the pr images about this because I was actually most excited about the valley church with the world now because he didn't see would use too frequently. And I reached down to them and they sent me over vala, and they sent me over their travel charger.

And I travel a lot. My wife traveled a lot. We travel together, travel separately. We travel. And i'm always looking for a great travel charger.

I kind of wanted a new version of mag safe duo was really what I was looking for. And this is not quite that small, but I think IT is more capable. So this is what he looks like.

You are watching the podcast on the video side of things, but he is a little folio that is little about the size of my hand, honestly, like my flat hand is about that size. It's direct tangle and the whole outside is made out of technical, going to call the vegan leather. But it's not really clever.

It's actually made of elo like cactus. So it's like tactics leather for the outside of this thing. And it's also quite hefty.

This is not like a light charger. It's got some half to IT, which I I do appreciate. You will also see if your watching video again, there's a little USB c port rate there on the back.

This comes with your power adapter, Andrew. U, S, B, C cable. So those are both included in the box. You can swap them out for a longer, short of cable, if you prefer.

And you can swap IT out for, like, a multi USB port one, which is what I would always recommend. I would recommend getting something like a two USB c output if you have travel that can be very handy. I go to recommendation, be something like the plug bug that has find my builds in no matter in anchor, but also make excEllent multipart put USB c charges.

Nimble has some two, but find yourself a good multipart. Put that way, you can power your, you're like your bedside, this top charger. But you could also power things like your laptop if you haven't be traveling for a work like I often.

So IT folds in half. It's a little folio. There's little curved folio here.

IT magnetically closes and actually has a listen to the sounds, a good, a good, solid sounds good, strong magnetic hole to this thing. So IT doesn't feel cheap at all. This feels hefty in cranium yet.

Open IT up and IT is a three in one charger. You've never been before in the show. I don't always need a three in one charger.

I'm perfectly happy with the two in one. My airports can charge on apple lot. They can charge on mag safe. I am happy with a two in one. But in this case, I think IT just works.

So again, on video, you'll see you have a max safe puck on one side, or A T two puck rather, and an apple watch puck. So the apple watch puck, first, this thing folds out so you can leave a flat if you want, depending on your band followed up its metal in the back IT feels very nice. Does support fast charging or no issues there.

Fold IT flat when you're done. great. There's little pad of here, which I believe I want to say that if you're three and one for your airpower s, so i'm hoping that's crack.

But you to give IT there to get pride, place your advice. Es, and then your cheat too. Puck again, metal IT pops out from the back go.

So IT is flat, but we can pull IT up. IT completely moves into little stand. It's a little stand.

So on your bedside, you can have your iphone and stand by mode in your apple watch right next to IT. You're not wearing your apple watch. Too bad, like I would recommend.

This thing is is a slam dunk. There's so many things that I like about IT. I like IT, IT falls up. I like the use of magnet. I like the pretty materials, super ecofriendly, fast charging speeds.

There's nothing not to like about IT in my opinion, on this is what I am going to be traveling with until I find something else that I I love this much. This is going to be what i'm going with. This is my personal one that I think I switch over you.

I tried a lot of other really tiny ones and and no shade danny of them. There are definitely ones that are smaller. This is not the smallest by any means, but I think the package they've done, IT, is so comprehensive and so quality that it's kind of one that they want to use because I could go again not to diminish any of these other products.

They all have their their purposes, and there's a lot agree once out there, they going to love twelfth south butterfly, the one from native union, also excEllent. But the thing with those ones is they're so small, but they don't support standby mode. And I mean, that's that's the case with my safe duo two, right, which is what I always originally looking for.

But this one, the fact that is still so tiny and then I can prop IT up into a stand west and my mode, that's that's kind where I wanted be right now when i'm looking for a travel charger. So I think this is what I want to go with for the time being. The other ones are very cool to you, but I really like this guy is pretty sweet so he has one big went up with the link for it's going to feel link as were going to apple.

But the link for that is in the show note, I went testing a bunch of g two charges and I have not been humbling him, human, you guys with them at all. There's a lot of ones I can talk about. I even knew in here from a hyper right.

This is just thing on my desk. This is a new alter fast ultraportable one. It's a very cool, very interesting, very different design to what I like that.

But as far as important ones, this kind of so how also you guys been this week, it's really been a crazy time so much that has been going on. I'm pretty excited for next week episode. Very excited for sea.

Yes, there's a lot of stuff that kind of like looming ing, I feel like. So we will see kind of wear things shake out since you talking about charges and apple watch stuff a little bit just a plug. One of my most recent videos, because I found IT really interesting, I went on a bit of a deep dive.

So there's that you will know the basics of apple watch, like for health tracking. So you have like your your heart rate and some of those things. There's a ridiculous amount data that apple watch tracks and allow people don't even know and attract these things.

Did you know your apple watch actually times not only how many times you go up and down the stairs, but how fast you go up and down the stairs. And those different mentors can give can be a good indicator of your health, your stare up time, ministry downtime. And there's like specifically numbers that you want to have in in those.

There's also things like you're walking a stability that can help track your improvement after like an accident. So you you hurt your leg and you're trying to get a healthy again. You actually watch yourself getting Better in your stability than again, if you're me and you have like a super messy studio and you're like tripping over things that thin, you're being clots and you're not stable to walk on your own.

But for most people, it's a really cool indicator of things going on. So there's all these different south, the apple lize tracks and I walked through a bunch of different meters so that I did not know about beforehand and and maybe you guys did not know about either. So you're interest all in apple watch and some of the health features of IT.

Go check out that video I will try to link for you in the show notes because I was really eye ending to me as I was playing around with IT. And there are so many more that I didn't even get to touch on that apple that apple does like you can actually see the list of all these different spot tracks, your health inside of your apple watch settings and in the health APP. And you can go through them.

I think timing daming daylight is also super under appreciated because is another way that apple is able to take sensors that IT art has and do something amazing with them. So IT literally is using the ambient light sensor that IT uses to adjust the brightest of your display for you to detect when you're in the sun, and use that to give you your hours in daylight, which again shows how much like IT can help with your mental stuff, can help with you our fitness stuff in help with invite in d, all these different benefits. So there's all these new perks of being out the daylight, so you can track that as well and hit your targets and what you're going for.

So much cool stuff. Apple is so amazing things which I think we all know and and appreciative. But sorry, there was was a long way to say, I did a video on apple watch and I love if you showed some love.
