U.S. stocks set another round of records in a shortened trading day today after a stronger-than-expected jobs report. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 344 points, or 0.8%, to close at 44,829. The S&P 500 was up 52 points, or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq added 208 points, or 1%.
Some standout stocks today. Datadog, a maker of monitoring and analytics programs, is set to join the S&P 500 on July 9th. It's replacing Juniper Networks, which was acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Datadog's stock jumped nearly 15%.
Shares of two of the world's top developers of chip design software jumped after the U.S. lifted some curbs on exports of the tech to China. Synopsys climbed 4.9% and Cadence Design rose 5.1%. We've reported that activist investor Starboard Value has built up a 9% stake in TripAdvisor. The online travel review company stock soared nearly 17%.
And electric vehicle maker Lucid said it delivered more vehicles last quarter. Shares closed up 5.4%. Meanwhile, President Trump's sprawling tax and spending bill has passed the House, delivering him a major second-term legislative victory.
The 218 to 214 vote sends the mega bill to Trump's desk ahead of the July 4th target he set for Congress.
