A large search and rescue operation is underway along the Potomac River in D.C., where a military Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines regional jet near Washington's Reagan Airport about three hours ago. At least 18 bodies pulled from the water, but no word on the status of the other 49 people. Fox's Chad Pergram has more from D.C. They had so many rescue units out here at
so quickly trying to understand what happened, where the site was. We were hearing some of the radio transmissions where it sounded like there were two sites. And every so often here, looking off to the left, you will see some of these helicopters, these search and rescue helicopters come across with these big searchlights and they reflect off the water.
They immediately called for, you know, every fireboat, every sort of waterborne rescue unit that was in the region. Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, going over to the Maryland side. You're right there as well. They suspended the flights here at Washington, D.C. The military confirms three soldiers were on board the Black Hawk. And American Airlines says the jet was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members. National Reagan.
National Airport says that it will be closed until Friday at 5 a.m. President Trump says he's monitoring the situation and just issued a statement. Fox's Trace Gallagher with what the president says.
