Coming up on IOS today, rose money or to and I help you bring your friends and family together for the start of the holiday season. They tuned with this episode via s today. Love from people you trust.
This is twitter. This is IOS today episode seven hundred twenty nine, with rose mayorship and me mics sergeant recorded tuesday, november twelve twenty twenty four four, thursday, november twenty first twenty twenty four, bringing friends and family together. Hello and welcome to I O S today the show we talk all things ipad O S, T V O S, watch O S, vision O S and all the other O S is that has an offer.
We love to talk about them on this show. We love to talk about the features, the apps, the gadgets and gizmos that help you make the most of your devices. I am one of your hosts. My name is mike sergeant.
and I am worse, my orchard, and who is very excited. We don't have thanksgiving over here in the U. K. And I know canadian thanksgiving was a while ago, but we are up on the time of year where people tend to spend more time indoors or at least appear in the northern hemisphere. I understand the south n hemisphere, the big fan of barkie this time year, but that's fine. Um I wish I was barbecue weather, but either way, you know spending some time with your family and your friends and all of those things seems like a great idea. So why shall we take make most of that and use our tech to help us red and .
hinders indeed? Yes, there's the complaint of people spending too much time on the attack instead of spending time with the family. Well, sometimes we use our tech to spend time with our families, particularly for those of us who live in different places.
And one way that that has become more and more possible is through technologies like a face time because during the pandemic, um there is a big shift in the focus of the different uh companies, the different 点 companies out there to help people come together bit for work or for play or for anything in between。 And so these companies you know strove to find ways to use their technology to make that possible。 And one thing that came out of that was many an improvement to face time to give you the ability to share in content with others who are in different places, uh, through a feature called share play, uh, you can watch movies and T V shows together.
You can also a play games together. You can play music together. All of these features were multiple people kind of collaborate together, while either watching a listening to something is all under the blanket that is known as share play.
So how does one do that? And sort of where is IT possible to to do that? Is this is a system wide, uh, does an offer to support IT. How does that work?
Yeah, well, to start with, a people are gonna need, uh, apple devices of some kind, something that supports face time, which does not include the news, apple T. V. As well. So that is worth knowing because if you have the new apple TV, then you can actually start a face time call from there. Uh, so the first thing you're going to want to do is hope on a face time call, doesn't have free video, can be audio uh with your family, your friends, all those people that you love and that you would like to share an experience with because sharply is about sharing, okay? Um and so you start you're having a chat, everyone's there grama finally arise and he figures out that it's you know a video calling.
SHE needs to put the phone in front of her face and step to her ear so you don't see the inside of pret ear for the whole call once you've dealt with all that, then you start by opening the apple TV APP for example, uh and playing the music uh or playing, sorry, not playing music, you can also do that. But you start by playing at the video in the apple T, V P and then you can share IT with sharpley. Um and once you started that, everybody has control.
Okay, so there is no oh, can you pause that? Can you pause that? I mean, there might still be some of that somebody he's in the kitchen cooking because that's where my mom always is.
I swear, every time I call her, she's in the kitchen cooking and SHE wanders away from her phone and she's not wearing her airports. I love her. SHE do ask me crazy, but that's family, right? That's family.
You love them even though they drive you crazy. Yes, when you start playing a video that has your play functionality. So not every APP has this.
Some services like netflix, disney plus plex, they have their own way of uh sharing uh uh uh playback session um which you'll need to go into those apps to to find out how that works. But for face time and shape ly things, you tap on, play, pop up and say, hey, would you like to share play you say yes. Everybody can control IT.
They can uh adjust the volume individually and close captioning individually. So you call one person who love subtitles and one person who hate subtitles and guest r and crazy by them, that's fine. If they washing on different devices, they both get to have their preferences um and so everybody can watch uh video together um in one of these share play sessions and this is really nice.
So if you are you on an iphone or ipad is very simple. Go on apple T V. IT does depend which generation of apple T V. You're on um as to how IT works. So if you're on the apple tb 4k second generation or later, then you start a face time call in the face time APP on the apple TV and you can use your iphone or your ipad as continuity camera for that and then you start watching uh a movie show, music, video, whatever.
Um and if you're on an apple T V H D or for a first generation or earlier for the ones that supported, then you start the face time call on your iphone, your ipad or your mac and then you joined the share play session through control center. Uh so yeah this is all uh documented in the the on the apple website but its a really fun way of you know watching a film together, watching A T V shows together, especially if there is a classic the your water around the holiday season, if maybe one person can be there or you know travelling is a bit much for some people this year or it's just friends that you've not seen in a while. You'd like to catch up, but not everybody has the band with to sit on a call for multiple hours, but you want us them at time together.
And I was really nice to put on a film as something in the background to keep you entertained. Um and yeah that's just one of the ways that you can use sharply. But there is also more together sharp play. So we've told about sharp play of a face time, but there is also sharp play in person.
Uh, so for example, if I were resting like and I want to mike his house because because he'd invited me like the lovely person he is and he had music playing on the apple T V, uh, then I would be able to uh, if he has, uh, enabled this a join a share play session for on the apple T V, which means that I can, you know, control, play back, I can add music to the up next list and so on. Support, which is really lively and IT also means that I share police session is not going to be necessarily reflected in your music listening history so mica doesn't necessary have to worry about me having dancing clean on repeat, ruin his a VISA recommendations forever. Um i'm sorry, I love that, but what can I say? Uh, I will love queen and friday merry um and so that is something that you can do with the sharples on apple T V.
Now this does also work with home pop. Um and also say, for example, you were gonna a little road trip together, might be twenty minutes down the road, might be twenty hours across the country depending on how your country is uh but if you're going to be driving together, then apple music has a share play in car play as well. So whoever phone is hooked up to car play is doing car play, but then passengers can join sharp play either by tapping the notification on their phone um or by scanning A Q R code which can pop up in in the music cap in the car um in in the airplane screen and uh so people will need to have devices with IOS uh seventeen or later um and the driver or more specifically the person whose devices connected to car play needs to have an apple music subscription.
Nobody else needs an apple music subscription for this to work um and everybody needs to allow their contacts to discover them when playing music in the cars and that's undersell tings, apps, music and then there's discoverable by nearby contacts. Um but yes, once you have done that, then that means that if I were on a road trip with ma, that I would feel to cue up dancing queen and then make up because I masuma Michael would be driving, would feel to hit skip on the drivers staying real controls every time I came on but but that would be okay cause you I wouldn't I would be doing IT for fun not because I desperately need to hear the song um so that's just some of the ways that you can use um apples media s to share with everybody else. And that's music and T V, which music T V and film which is really lively. Also if you have purchased a film through apple T V, uh through the apple T V APP um or A T V show, I believe the share play also works for those as well, which is really great. If there is something that's not available for streaming.
they would like very much. I think this these features are fantastic. It's one of them, in my opinion, best editions that apple has made to IOS ipad of us that in in a long time.
And you know the collaborative nature that is there that was predicted on that horrible, horrible thing that we went through. I am glad that this came out of IT. At least IT is great set of features that has made the difference for me is someone who all of my family lives in missouri.
And so the fact that i'm able to to do that is great. So those are some of the ways that you can use, share play to kind of interact both in person, which is cool, but also when you are in two different places. Ah but there are some other tools as well.
And roman is going to talk about a new one, but I want to talk about one that's been around for a while that I am always telling people about they don't realize is possible. Uh, it's called share E T A. And it's a feature that part of apple maps that is so awesome.
so. When you use apple maps, uh, be IT on your phone or in car play, and you are in driving motor, you're using car play and therefore the phone oser in driving mode, um you are able to share your E T A with another person. Uh, this can be a person that uses an iphone or has some other APP that uses or brother device that uses a message, or I can actually be a person who just as S M S texting or uh R C S texting for modern devices.
And when you do this, the system keeps track of your estimated time of arrival and tells the other person about that the estimated time arrival. So if they have an IOS device or an ipad OS device, they're able to follow along with an apple device. Basically, they are given a constant, uh, E, T, A that also shows your current location. I use this all the time when I am going, whether leaving the house or i'm coming back to the house.
I like to share my E, T, A with people are in particular my significant to make sure that uh if I was to be an accident or something like that, they would know what IT does is IT updates the person um on top of just being something they can check in on and see okay, this is where they are along the road. If my route to change because of an accident on the road, or if I needed to stop and get gas or something like that, IT will send a notification letting the person know, oh, this person's E T, A has changed, uh, and it's also going to take x amount of time for them to get there. Now is cool.
Is that again, this works of people outside of the apple ecosystem as well. If you share your E T A with someone that is using, uh a non apple device or doesn't have, uh, an eye message account, then IT will update them via text message if that E T H. And so you are able to uh keep them up to date on what's going on, which I think is really again such a cool feature.
Um so sharing your E T A through that means is very simple. Uh you'll in fact, you will see IT pop up where IT will just say share E T A in the maps APP. But you can also just ask siri to do so.
So while you're driving, you can hit the button on your steering wheel or say the phrase out loud and say the words share E T, A with, and then the name of your contact syria will confirm and then you're able to move along with that confirmation. And again, that's going to be the whole time that you're doing that, right? Uh, so IT will automatically keep them update. You don't have to constantly text them to to keep them updated. I love that feature. Um leo used to use that whatever we did I O S today together to keep me updated on his location as he came in in the morning so that I didn't have anxiety about him, uh, having had an accident or something like that on his way into work um which is mostly where my mind goes when ever IT comes to people driving so it's nice to have that E T A shared as well.
yes. And yeah E T A can also be added permanently to uh pins. So if you have favorite locations in maps which then pop up in the car, then you can also add people to that to have them ultimately be notified.
So for example, of my parent calls, I have set up as a in and whenever I tap that IT ultimately shares my E T A with my mom. I have discovered there is no point sending at my dad because I get there and then i've been there for an error and then he goes, what's this? Um he hasn't seen.
He doesn't check us out that often, but my mom does this way. You know it's only a terminate drive, but they know what i'm going to get there, which is great if i'm running the late for luch or similar. But sometimes you want to check in with somebody to let them know that you've arrived home, okay um or something else.
And map isn't necessarily the solution to that because a maybe you're doing a workout and it's like whenever I finish my work out like whenever I finish my work out or just in an hour, I want like an attic check and know everything OK. You know something isn't okay. And so there is a new feature called checking which is built into messages.
Um and so i'm just get pop open my messages with mika here and then I will start showing everybody so if you'd have a little plus next two messages um so a little left one side. This is where you can you to take a picture with your camera and photos as and apple cash do audio send later is also in here, which can be really nice. So if you know that um you know you're probably going to get a message from somebody to yet at like seven thirty in the morning saying is the thing okay uh then you could send a schedule later seven five saying i'm not awake yet.
Try try later. Um and then if you already awake, then you you can LED obviously but if you screwed down of IT, then there's chicken and chicken is a great feature um where IT pops up and IT says, hey, check in okay, around seventeen thirty five that's about in an hour from now. And if I pop in tap on the edit on this, then there are actually three options here.
So I can check in when to get to a particular destination um I can check in based on a timer um and this so timer means that I will be prompted at a particular time. And if I don't respond to that on my end within fifty minutes, uh then Michael gets a notification okay, this is what's commonly refer to as a dead men switch. So by something not happening, then the automation will continue to go ahead, which basically means that a hey, if I don't check in fifteen minutes that that means that something could be wrong and i'd like to let people know.
And then there's the workout option um so the workout check will ultimately ally notify the person after you finished your workout, which can be really useful if you are, for example, going for a run. And it's winter time up here in the north and hemisphere here it's dark outside its rainy. The streets and parks aren't necessarily super well lit.
I could be very enthusiastically licked by a golden retrial if I go for run in the park. Um so fortunately, I live in a very safe town. But either way, if I were going to run in the park, I would absolutely use a chicken feature to let my parents know that I got home safely.
Um you know and if I if I didn't and they got this notification, then they would know to come look for me and that would be fine. But yes, so check in has these different options when you get to particularly destination uh, with the timer or workout. But if you go into settings and then apps, messages and then they scroll down, there's check in data and you can change this.
So full data will send somebody, for example, the battery level of my phone and the battery level of my watch, how my phones connected, like, do I maybe have very little signal, in which case they know that this could be a bit more difficult. Call me so they should probably try messaging me, but I they can see my wifi so they can try face time meet me um and then they can see also my route. okay? And the work focuses is super data.
This is not showing my my home. And so here I can see um the um the person I can see a Green pen of where they are attending to go. Um I can see you know some points on a map and I can see oh their phone was unlocked at this point.
IT shows us a little padlock is open and then the watch uh, was taken off at this point. Oh, that might be not so great. And then there's also a limited one which uh just sort of shows where the person is on the map and he does still show a battery level and and a signal level of devices. But IT doesn't actually show that, for example, the watch was removed and taken off um or um that your phone was lost on locks because if they can see that your phone was also a lot two minutes ago and I would hope that the personally should the check in information with is good, try calling you first when going is everything OK where is immediately jumping to the oh my god, everything so far called the police um but yes, this is a really great way of letting people know that you got home safely.
Um I particularly like the the work at one and the destination one because I get to the place then IT just lets no hate you got there is all good the time one, however, can also be really good uh to let somebody know that like hey ah they didn't check in by this time where they supposed to i've actually used this a few times. Not quite as apple intended, I don't think. But for example, when I was meeting my parents and my uncle for lunch, uh, recently at the weekend, I had this set up, uh, so if I didn't like, stop IT, uh, by nine thirty IT was going a message, my mom, so that then should be like archiva words definitely hasn't woken up.
She's clearly looking very heavily. Maybe we should go run and knock on the door and check that she's okay um and I woke up and I had turned IT off before IT popped up. So that was great but IT is a nice option if you maybe need A A little extra help with things like that every once in a while.
Yes, when apple I of this feature, I definitely celebrate the addition of that. The fact that you can choose how much information to share a, and that IT can be kind of a temporary thing is great for particularly sharing with friends. I not somebody who likes to share my fall on location with hardly anyone, oddly enough. Ah one of the people who does have my location is front of the show, James thomson, but I just don't share my location with two many people.
Yeah yeah. J James is collecting a variety of, so he also comes on to, for example, which E, U. Host with a quite often and hosiery.
But yeah, he sees me collecting a lot of people. It's quite entertaining. When he talked him is like, oh, you, you, I see that you're visiting bika.
Oh, I see your visiting Cathy. Oh, okay, cool. thanks.
Um so that's how to use check IT in a particularly around the holidays. I think about people who gather you. We're planning to. Because when we won't be near family are the friends that we have nearby will be gathering together. And so checking is a great way to do that even if you don't want to go as far as to share, you fall in location at all times。 Now um one way to also bring family together uh is by making use of some of the features that apple is introduced to make IT so that family can share in uh different things.
And as a rosemary points out around this time, this is a great opportunity, while everybody is together, to set up features like family sharing, which does require interaction from individuals within the family who are hoping to like, join the team. I remember when I set up uh, family sharing with my family means the one kind of hosting the family sharing ah I had kind of satisfied time. Talk people through the cess, let them know what they needed to do and it's involved.
And so having someone there physically makes that process a lot easier. And then you can walk them through and talk about what they're opting into a different places in different ways. So a family sharing though means that you and your family can gain access to APP subscriptions with you know, one person's APP subscription if they have family share turned on IT means, uh, sharing photos if you would like to set up A A shared uh photo album IT means uh easier access to a shared calendar, shared reminders.
Um location can kind of be built in. So there is A A lot of there are a lot of benefits to using family sharing um but I do think it's still a little complicated to get set up from a distance, at least based on my own anette evidence. yes.
And I I certainly understand why IT hadn't be a chAllenging especially the thing that often takes the wealth people to up the head around is that there are no longer paying for their purchases. Um IT is the you, uh the the person who is the head of the family, uh the person who is set up family sharing, who will be the person that gets built for all of the things?
Now you can work her on this, and in my family we do work her on this by buying a goole gift cards um and we buy by was previously itunes gift cards and now are absorb gift cards uh for any uh absolut purchases subscriptions that my primarily dad at once um but honestly, most of the time if my car is go to dead load and up. I've probably already bought IT and have a substitution for IT anyway because i'm the one that recommended IT to them so that works incredibly well in my family um however, there are some things that you can do with your family that don't require you setting up family sharing with the absent everything uh as well. So for example, if you don't want to share APP purchases, I cloud storage extra.
You can still create shared photo albums and share them with each other. You can still create shared calendar and shared reminders, lists and share them with each other, and you can also choose to share your allocation or not share location with your family members, uh, if you would like to do so through the find my APP uh, and also you can set this up three messages and I will just have remind folks, uh, how you can do this in messages, uh, because that is quite a nice thing. So in messages, if he tapped the top of the person's, uh, picture at the top of message and then you can see i've got the option to request like this location.
That's not what i'm good do. I am to share my location and if I am sharing my location, I get three choices for one hour until the end of the day and indefinitely. And this can be quite a nice thing to do with friends and family members, especially if, say, for example, family gathering, uh, oh, we ve forgot insert super important, crucial ingredient for the dinner that we're making here.
Okay, I am, baby. The one that runs the store to get IT because i'm not as useful in the kitchen necessarily. So i'll were enough, but I will share my location with them so that they know where I am.
You know there's like three stores I need to run to and they go, oh, no, shoot. We also need this. They can check, oh, she's she's at that store or message and and ice curt to grab that. So the one hour or the until the end of the day, location sharing can be extremely useful for things like that. But there are a lot of things that are available uh, through family sharing, but you don't necessarily have to go full up with family sharing if that's not for you.
Yes, I I like that too. Um the fact that IT doesn't need to be everything um I think we have purchase sharing turned off, but everything else is enabled with some of the family members. Some don't want to share our location, which is fine and so that's also disabled for some users.
Uh so it's you know how much you want to share or excuse me, how little you want to share and that works for people um but giving shared access to my apple subscriptions like news and music and what not is also quite handy. Um and as I mentioned, IT just makes IT easier to share some of those things. Um all right. The last thing of course is the fact that there are some third party apps out there that are great to bring friends and family together um and there certainly is one that I think rises above the rest uh because I don't think i've .
ever had a gathering .
that was not uh that was that used this APP where people were not happy with the fact that we were we were using this APP um you would tell us a little bit about .
JPG yeah sure. I so J P T R jack box party games and they make apps uh not just for an apple T V mac um but they also make them and you can purchase them on intended which h steam for a steam deck and so on, as if for they're available on a number of platforms.
But uh for example, if we were slight, uh, jet books party packs seven, which is one of the many apps that they have, their party packs tend to be around thirty dollars um but uh those ones contain multiple games and so IT pops up a game um or IT pops up a choice of games. Select one and everybody pulls out there. A device IT does not have to be an iphone and android are also welcome.
Um if you you used to allow such devices in your house, which personally I think you should, you know you can't convert people to the Better way of doing things unless, uh, let them in and and and show them at that either way you you pop IT up, you slight to game, everybody joins uh IT pops up a code for everybody to join the room. So right types the code and then you you play the game, uh, whatever IT is. So sometimes it'll be that you get given A A word um or a couple of words and you have to draw picture of IT um and people get points based on how well they guess, uh, what IT is that you've drawn and if they get the exact right thing.
And so and so and honestly, there is there is a whole bunch of games which are really fun and I could probably spend hours um explain more to you uh and I am not going to because I think IT is worthy playing uh yourself to find out um now the games do go on sale on a fairly regular basis. So I will recommend looking out for those sales um especially black friday coming up uh but the jab box party games are excEllent and I love having the jack box party pack as a tool that I can just bust out at any entertainment uh thing for whatever games that is because yeah their games are great. And it's not like you need to teach grandma how to use and xbox control or anything like that. You can just like set up the game and then people do you know the little bit and then is basically just tapped on your phone screen after you have you've done the first part of the game a to you know you playing IT, which hopefully ever braking partis patent and also reminder, if not everybody y's got a device or super comfortable using IT, you can play these things in paris or little teams um so you know you get one person who's really good drawing to do the drawing part um and then everybody else takes in turns or something like that so everybody can join in a half. But yeah i've i've always had a lot of plane, the jack box party games .
yeah it's always great. There's little and your feeling like, oh, i'm hosting and I need to you know make everybody excited or whatever. This is a great opportunity to to do that. So I really recommend that when you'll get uh, you'll definitely get your money's worth, not a sponsor, just a really good set of games, all right? Um if you have some ways that you bring family and friends together using IOS ipad of asset ta, well, all you need to do is a reach out to let us no, I O S today at twitter TV is how you can get in touch and we would love to hear about the apps and settings features that you use for that. Um IT is time for feedback and rose mary is gonna take IT this time already.
Well, we have a couple of feedback questions this week, and our first one comes from mike. He has written hi there. I wasn't sure this was a more of an IOS today or a hands on tech type of question, but here goes with IT.
With the release of the new mac mini. I think I finally want to agree my two thousand and nine seriously mini that I used basically as a headless server for home bridge channels ETC. The old money doesn't really update anymore and i'm falling behind on those services as well as a result as a signal, I will say that otherwise is so totally useful for work closing in emails, which is a testable to apple.
Yes, I agree with that. Currently, in order to actually use the money, I have to swap on haste and my inputs on my T, V, and go get my keyboard and track that. I don't use IT often, and IT is just inconvenient enough to be annoying.
I'd like to know if there's an APP I can run on the mini that would allow me to connect using my ipad, making IT by keyboards, mice, ammonia. I would like you to be persistent through restarts, as this is the primary time that I need my money to restart various service. Thanks for any help you can provide. Well, the goodies, mike, is I actually have a suggestion for you, which I personally duce all the time. Which is jump this stop so jump this stop.
Uh you purchase on the ipad is fourteen and ninety nine one time purchase um you don't load the free jump test of connect on the maki and set IT up um and make sure to sign in uh on the mac in as well because that will mean that IT will then hopefully be persistent through restarts and then you can connect using your a ipad. Now the only little turkey bit for this might be if the mac doesn't have a screen connected to IT, then I can get a little bit cRicky about that and that IT doesn't have a display for you to replicate. And if that is the case, then there is an alternative to this um which is luna display um and luna display is a little jungle you plugged into the mac mini pop IT into with the U S B C parts um and IT becomes a display um basically and then you can use the linux splay APP on your ipad to connect to the mac uh as the monitor are uh so that would also be worth considering.
There are also options on amazon. I have personally tried them um of a dummy I H D M S where basically you can just buy something that plugs into H D M which tells the mac mini yeah there is a screen here totally and it's it's a fake screen so that when you just try to connect through remote detox then there's a screen therefore to replicate uh so fingers cross like those options will work for you. Um I would probably uh go with jump this up and just trying well, there's dummy hat and my options from amazon because luna display is great but it's certainly on the Price year end um of the choices.
Um so yeah I hope that you enjoy your new m for mini mac mini it's so tiny it's a doro. I love IT. I've got my big mac studio here and I I really love IT yeah you are if you are not really using IT like you like logging on and doing stuff on a on a regular base.
I span absolutely having something tiny underneath to your TV is a great option um something else I do just want to mention um that might make IT a little easier if you do need to connect display is you could also look into a hat D M I switch, uh which is uh basically a little bank of H G M I ports with a button on top. And sometimes they were remote control to switch the inputs poor, that poor on your T V. So I assume that you don't have enough page my ports on your T D, which is why you have to switch the cables.
But if you grab an extra H D M I cable and then, uh, yeah, you would have a hte DMi switch, so then you can pop up the screen on the mac meeting, which would mean that, you know, you can at least see up right? There is a security thing that I need to go through. I'll go grab the keyboard and mouse .
with a little effort. Beautiful all right. That I I I agree about having like the head list when I think that's a great way to do IT um tell us about the feedback from neo yeah so .
neil has a little question which is actually asked you because I think you've ve night have helped out with this previously on another episode, the show or uh previous uh or uh a different show but um yeah he would like to know if you can help me with the apple poca APP so uh you know this haymaker um try as I might.
I cannot reduce the size of the apple pocus up I setting set to dollop less subset only delete after played in climate of exeter, no matter what I do, the APP size remains at ten gigawatts um so the APP size itself is twentynine point eight megabits but documents and data is ten point one two gig bites I plenty of storage so isn't not that I need to free up space. I'm just perplexed why is so big and why no matter what I do IT remains a tanking bites. I've tried all the suggestions on discussions from apple website and all the recommendations and have basically tried everything.
I've floated the APP and then reinstalled, hoping you would close the storage. But after IT returns to ten gig bites, well, I don't know how many podcasts share subscribe to you, but a video epo de of one pocket is probably can be somewhere between five hundred ga bites to a gig bites could even be a gig bite and a half if the fork episode um so I would start by looking at where you subscribed to now offloading the APP is only going to uninstall like the APP part of IT is only going to do the twenty seven point eight mega bytes. If you want to completely clear out all the stories is used by, you're going to need to delete the whole lap which is gone to get rid of all of the subscriptions and everything is well, poorly ly um and then um reinstall IT that will get rid of the time point to gig is being used approximately.
Um it's not as like temple in one five but yes um but that that will get a rid of IT. But yeah I would ask how many posts you subscribe to and also have you downloaded any ad hawk episodes of anything at any point because if you have those don't get affected by the download last play setting, they will just stick around probably until ve played IT. And so if you download IT, I don't know a bunch of episodes hands on mac with mic, which is a great show here on the twin um then you might have those floating around even though IT says download last only because you I went in and downloaded at them. So those are all options uh, worth looking into. Um so yeah I don't know if you've got any extra Price my for neil make why .
I just wanted to double down on what you one thing there that just not to gLance over IT. A lot of people are unaware of the fact that offload APP means what you have explained that that means when people hear offload APP, they think it's going to get rid of the data of the APP on the device and it's the opposite. Um IT saves the data there. IT just takes the APP itself off of your device.
The idea is that if you're not using the APP but you may at some point in the future want to use IT again, then let's go ahead and get rid of the APP and everything that built in, but keep the data so that if you decide to use IT again in the future, all you have to do is down of the APP and then I can reconnect to that data. So offloading an APP again does not remove the data that's part of the APP IT just removes the APP itself. So if I was a photos APP, then the photos that you've created with that are going to stay, but the actual creator part of the APP is what goes away.
Um so just just keep that in mind that offloading does not remove IT. Um and I think that rosemary has hit the nail on the head in terms of you are probably going to if if it's not that you've downloaded at hawk episodes, if for some reason it's still remaining at ten gigs um then deleting the at self completely, not just loading IT is probably was going to solve that for you. But I also recommend that after you ve done so um checking your multi tech so once you ve deleted a double checked in the multi asking view, uh the APP has been killed and then force restart the device uh so that the cash everything is completely wiped and that you're going in fresh.
Then going and check your settings, make sure that it's all gone from there. If it's not, then try to remove IT from there. Then we download and that should kick uh that save data out.
If IT doesn't at that point, then you probably have a corruption somewhere and plug in into your mac and doing um a reinstall the soft where are not a complete reinstalled the home, but just a reinstalled the soft where might solve the problem, neil, but these are fun. I love these questions because neil, you do point out like it's it's not that it's uh causing me the issues. I've got plenty of space, but IT is its frustrating.
I like why is this still here? IT doesn't make any sense. And so in that way is very helpful. Yeah.
upload APP is really mostly useful if you have got an APP, that itself is really big, but your personal data is really tiny. So for example, garage band is a pretty big APP. And if you only got one or two projects and your nokia use garbage band for a couple of months, you could offload garage band, especially if you're unit working.
Imagine your space and you don't have a huge amount of IT but generally offloading an APP. Um it's not really going to free up that much storage space. First is the amount of data that has been used by a lot of these apps.
Indeed, already I can hear the music. Its time for shortcuts corner.
Welcome back to shortcuts corner. The part of the show are you writing with your shirt? Cuts requests and rose my orchard.
Our shortcuts expert provides a response. Our shirt is going to a request. This week comes in from dustin, who has happily shared a lot of a lot of pet tax.
So we'll get to that the moment. Destiny ghz. Hi, mike. And is mary living in montana? I use a remote start in the winter to warm up my truck.
The problem is IT has manual climate control, so I have to remember to adjust the temperature before I leave the vehicle to what I would like the next time I remote started. What I would love is a short cut run as I disconnect my iphone from car play, reminding me to adjust the temperature. If this is possible, you guys will be saving me many cold mornings, running to my truck with shoes not suitable for snow.
And then dustin follows up by saying, my pet tax will be paid with cookie a, who is a cat? I'll see this phone in just a second. Oh.
my, posing for the camera uh .
cookie the cat is sitting on a White looks like an outdoor kind of uh sofa deal um and is a multiple stripped Kitty with an adorable of White mouth yeah and then suit was also a cat oh my goodness sushi has beautiful blue eyes and mostly sort of like a off White colour with some black uh patches here and there .

fancy with a little toy lobster sitting in a bed and uh has a adorable black nose and last but not least l the dog who must be outnumbered by these cats and ally looks like a big White lab looks very good .
nature yes um opposing .
next to obviously what must be a stick that li has found no, it's A A tree that has been knock over but a kind .
of but eli still found IT and it's technically a stick. It's just a very big stick and ali may struggle to take IT home but that doesn't mean that it's not something very enthusiastically being appreciated.
Yeah, l looks proud next to the stick. yes. All right, rose, very. Why did you take IT away and help? Dustin are right.
Well, I am definitely gonna a help out dustan because running outside and shoes not suitable for snow sounds like there could be a couple of problems. Therefore, fully got full detection enabled on your apple watch in our previous episode of IOS, the day that was seven eight last week. Um but what we are going to need to do is create an automation in shortcuts.
And this is possibly going to be the shortest st shortcut we have ever created on I O S day. Now usually when you create an automation, I say make a shortcut and then run a shortcut. T but in this case, we're not going to do IT, and there's a good reason for that.
But either way, inside the shortcuts, um we need to uh go to the automation tap and tap on the plus and then scroll down and look for car play. Uh and there is uh a uh trigger for corporate. And so you can say when you your device disconnects, don't forget to on check the connect uh one and then make sure that this is set to run immediately because uh, that is baby very important.
And then where you create a new blank automation. And then there are two choices here um and i'm going to go with the notification because I think the notification is probably going to be the simplest one uh for this you could also add a reminder and set the reminder to now but let's let's leave this with uh, just the notification um so set the cars heat for tomorrow explanation, mark and that's IT. That's literally all we're going to do.
And so did when you get out of the car a and I will just pop up an unitization that says, set the car seat for tomorrow and that'll be IT now if you were driving somewhere and then you get out the car at that end, a, and then you aren't going to need this, then it's still gonna p up. And we could get fancy and fix that. But if you'd like that, then right back and let me know. And we can get into figuring out whether or not the short cutch of them based on times a day, physical location or sorts of things. But for time being, thank you so much for the overload of cute as dustin because that was definitely possibly the best pet tex we have paid just in quantity but also excelled quality of but yes, that was absolutely fabulous and a single action shock cut with a trigger for the automation.
which is chef kiss.
