All right, the Oregon Ducks, will they make the college football playoff first year in the Big Ten, which is going to take a little bit of getting used to. I think it's going to be weird for all of us.
Dylan Gabriel transfers in UCF, Oklahoma. Hell of a career for Dylan Gabriel. Quickly, 12 starts shy of tying the FBS record for career starts by a quarterback set of 61 starts. You might know who has that? Bo Nix. He does. 2019 to 2023. Gabriel also 135 passing yards shy of 15,000 for his career.
Seven quarterbacks in FBS history have reached 15,000 passing yards in their careers. Would anybody like to take a chance, or should we move on? Case Keenum is one. That is one. He has more than anybody else. Right. Colt Brennan? Is not one. Ah. What about Timmy Chang? Timmy Chang is there. Hey-o. Second most passing yards all time. Colt McCoy? Is not there. Dang.
Most of all time. We've already gotten it, haven't we? Oh, no, but there's seven who have hit 15,000 yards. Oh, okay. I'm sorry. Yeah. All right. So Case Keenum, Timmy Chang, I will say the COVID year has just been so brutal. I would say there's only one on this list that has been benefited by COVID ball. Mahomes? Mahomes not there, but you're heading down the right path for a one at least.
I feel like this should be. I feel like there's a gimme. Graham Harrell. Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Landry Jones. Ty Detmer. And actually two who have benefited from COVID, my bad. Bo Nix and Sam Hartman. Those are your seven quarterbacks all the time that have hit 15,000 career passing yards. Well, they were playing when they were 28. Think about doing it in three years. That's what Graham Harrell did. Three years.
Think about how dumb that is. Had some insane games. I don't think that there's any doubt about that. All right, so. Going for 5-10s a down game, you know it's going to be crazy. You're doing some things right at that point. I don't think anybody would deny that. So Dylan Gabriel comes in, but you also see Bo Nix's numbers technically kind of ahead of his career-wise. I hate to just say upgrade, downgrade, Greg, but comparatively, where is this quarterback shift for Oregon going?
based on how Bo Nix had been the last two years? They're going to be fine. It doesn't... Look, I thought Bo was a good player. I don't think he was elite. I think Bo was fine. I think he was accurate.
I think he had a not really, really good arm. I get all the physical traits, but this offense system really helped him kind of go. And I do think Bo really got better as he progressed in his career. But I think Dylan Gabriel, he doesn't have the ceiling that Bo does, but I think he
You kind of know what you're going to get. He's played so much football and has been around so often. So I'm just not that concerned. I'm just not at all concerned about what they got. I think they're going to be just fine at that spot. Yeah, Dylan Gabriel has been productive. There are some people who say maybe big games, maybe durability. Those are going to be the two biggest differences between what you had with Gabriel and Knicks. But the only problem is he won. I mean, in all seriousness, he won...
I mean, he flat out single-handedly won the Texas game last year. So it's hard for me to say, all right, he hasn't maybe had the big game performances, which I get. But man, I don't know, bud. Like single-handedly winning the biggest game arguably of your career, to me, that kind of alleviates that concern.
No, and he had some huge runs, huge plays late in that game as well. So, Tez Johnson, as Damian mentioned earlier, going to be back. Over 1,100 yards, 10 receiving touchdowns last year. Treshawn Holden, solid for that group last year. Gary Bryant, another solid receiver. And then you add an elite receiver from Texas A&M that is putting this receiving core either at the top of the list or in people's top three in all of college football.
But you do lose Troy Franklin. You do lose Bucky Irving in the backfield, which were both dynamic players. Franklin, 14 receiving touchdowns. Irving, 13 rushing touchdowns. So I don't know if it's necessarily black and white how things have been replaced based on what's going to be gone, GMAC, but not many teams have done near as good of a job of at least bringing in something that's going to be close to what they had prior that they've lost when it means that much to their team the year before.
I think Bucky Irving's loss. And look, I know they've been good at running back for as long as I can remember. When was the last time they weren't good at running back? I mean, goodness gracious, they've always been good at running back. But this year in particular, I just feel like Bucky Irving's level of explosiveness was on a whole different stratosphere compared to the other guys he was going against. So that would be the one thing that would be somewhat problematic, but
It doesn't bother me to the point where I don't think they can replace it. I think they'll be okay there. I really do. Dante Moore also comes in a quarterback, not going to probably have to play this year. You also go get Jabbar Muhammad from Washington.
a cornerback, Evan Stewart, comes in from Texas A&M. You go get Eliza Rushing and Aiden Breland out of high school, who are two top 30 prospects. They're going to help you along your defensive line, which is going to be pretty good anyway. So when you look at this Oregon football team, what are some of those concerns, GMAC, as far as what might worry you with them finding their way into the college football playoff?
biggest question is they're going to be pretty young along the defensive line and when I say pretty young I'm talking like you know on the verge of being real young second year players at a lot of spots and and I think second year you can make a huge leap and tell me when was your biggest leap was it from freshman to sophomore year because for me it was that was big yeah it was massive it was a massive leap and I think they're anticipating a big leap from a lot of those guys but that's a pretty big if
I still don't think on the defensive line they're as good as people want you to believe. Doesn't mean that they don't have some players that can go. They can, but I just don't know if they're Michigan-level good, if they're Georgia-level good even. Georgia, of course, not as good up front as they've been in the past. But there's like this...
universal thought that Oregon is as good up front defensively as anyone else in the country. And I don't see them that way. I don't know how you feel about it. No, not that good. No. And it's, and we've talked about how some of these defensive lines are lacking comparatively to what they have been for a long period of time. I think they're solid. I don't, I don't view them as, uh,
overly elite or overly dominant is my expectation. I think they're going to be good. And when I go back and I watched even last year, Greg, there were multiple times that that defensive line was being displaced in the run game. I still think part of the biggest misconception with Oregon is that who they are up front wins more than what they are up front. Does that make sense?
I don't know if people will follow that, but when I watch Oregon's defense, what they do and how they do it helps them win more than just who they are. I don't think they could just line up and play base defense and be anywhere near as good as they are. Does that? I think that's fair. I think that's perfectly fair. I don't have any issue with that whatsoever. I also just acknowledge that
The league that they played in was a perimeter league. And there's nothing wrong with being a perimeter league. That doesn't make you soft. The SEC, with all due respect to the players in the SEC and the coaches in the SEC and those that follow and love the SEC, the league has become much more a perimeter. Let's make it a little more perimeter-based. Let's make sure we continue to get it out on the perimeter. I think that, and that's okay. There's nothing wrong with that.
I just think that the league that they're going into is very much about between the tackles, line of scrimmage play, and the teams that win the league are usually the teams with the best defensive lines, a la Michigan. Ohio State's going to be filthy up front this year. So I do have wonders about that. We're all assuming, hey, Oregon's just going to jump right in and be fine. I just think their defensive line isn't as good as some of the other defensive lines out there.
But they ask those guys to move a little bit. They get creative with them. They give you a lot of different looks. And then when those guys are on the move, I think they're pretty solid. They're talented, quick, flashy, so to speak.
and with an experienced linebacking core behind them, still should be solid. Not going to be a liability by any stretch of the imagination. I think you and I are just on the same page that that front is not just going to come in and individually dominate the Big Ten. But that doesn't mean the defense can't be pretty good. Most likely will be. You add Jamari Caldwell in the portal out of Houston, been a couple of places, Independence Community College. Also Derek Harmon out of Michigan State.
And a lot of people think that that might be a bit of an upgrade up front, Greg. I'm not necessarily ready to go there, but you do bring in at least some Big Ten experience with one spot and some other talent that can help you with the depth along that defensive line for the Ducks. Yeah, and I think that's something that could help you. How do you feel about their edges? Everyone makes Jordan Burch out to be God's gift to football. I'm just curious your thoughts. Once again, when he's on the move and he's doing cool things, I think he's pretty sporty.
Do I think he can just – I'll be interested to see him this year because apparently he's cut like 20 pounds but hasn't lost a lot of muscle. So can he be a little bit more of a twitchier edge guy? Listen, that was part of the thing. He wanted to be an edge guy in Columbia, and they knew he wasn't.
So when you're playing three down, yeah, he can be a defensive end. He can kind of do some of those things. But do I think he's like a four-down-edge defender, Will Anderson-type guy? No, I don't really view him that way. But he's super talented. He can make plays, and I think they realize letting him move around and do different things is probably going to be more beneficial to them. Yeah, which is fine. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I just really wonder a little bit the way that we're hyping up some of the players.
for Oregon, I just think we're maybe giving them a little too much credit considering what they were playing against last year. Like I said, I don't have any disrespect for some of the other offensive lines and defensive lines in the Pac-12, but I just don't think they were very good. Let me just ask this kind of as a general question. Yeah. Is Oregon kind of like the hot girl that transferred into school? Is Oregon the new...
The new toy at Christmas, like is that, how much of this is just shine, honestly? People were freaking about to get on a knee and propose to him last year after they drummed Utah, who was eight and five. I mean, do you not remember how Oregon was propped up last year? Trust me, I'm the one that sat here on this show and was like, y'all gonna have to point it out to me because I'm not seeing the things y'all are seeing.
And whether it was quick throws, whether it was other, and I mean, honestly, a lot of it was like other teams peeing down their leg. Like you watch the games that they played and teams were just handing them games. Now I'm not, they watched, they played hard. And what were they like a 14 point favor in that game to say a time around? And I'm like, did y'all watch the first one? Cause I did. Yep.
So, yes, Greg, I think you're accurate in a lot of where you're going with that. I know I'm accurate of where I'm going with this. It's like she was a pretty girl already, and then she got into a better sorority. Like she's in a sorority now with them being the Big Ten. It's just elevated a little bit more. Like, dang, look at you. I think that's fair. I think that's all fair. Like, I really like Oregon. I think they're going to be good a lot. I think they're a top five football team for sure. But I just think there are not that many teams that have been given –
such immediate access to the top of the college football world narrative as Oregon. Like they had a couple wins last year. No one's saying it wasn't impressive, but you're literally wet in the bed over how you played against Colorado. I mean, like, good gosh. Like, it's not that impressive, guys. Colorado stunk along both lines of scrimmage. We can't make
Oregon's defensive line out to be world beaters when they just ate up a group and exposed a group that really wasn't very good to begin with. So I don't know. I just think there's a lot of people rushing to judgment with this Oregon. Hey, we're going to come in and just, you know, walk the dog on every Big Ten team. I just don't think it's going to be that easy. It's an interesting point that you bring up. Portland State. I'm not going to say Texas Tech was bad last year, but they weren't great.
Texas Tech had that game on their racket until there was a fumble return to the house with 30 seconds left. Hawaii, Colorado. Stanford was miserable last year. Terrible. That's one way to put it. You take out the Washington game. Washington State. They lost the Washington game. Well, yeah, that's why I'm taking that out. But Washington State wasn't good. They finished. They won six games. And that game was a game. It wasn't like it was a blowout.
You also mentioned Utah earlier. It was eight win football team. Cal. Everyone freaked out about the Utah game because game day was in town at Utah. There was all this buzz about Utah wasn't good. They couldn't score. Cal was average. Cal was a six and six football team. I think we know what USC was. USC was a seven and five football team. That was 36-27.
Arizona state was not a great football team. Terrible. Oregon state was meh. I mean, solid, solid, really good win. That was a really good win. And then Washington, you drop it again and you get a Liberty team in the bowl game, which I don't know what we really make a bulls. What's the most impressive win Oregon state, I guess you'd say. But that was a really impressive win. But if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it raining and everything? I think so. Well, it's okay. And I think it was on a Friday night. I think it's,
It's either rain or fog every year. Right. Right. A hundred percent. I think I want to say it was, I want to say it was a Friday night too. And that was a very impressive win by far their most impressive performance of the year. But like you said, man, people were losing their minds over what this team had. I'm not saying they weren't good. They were great. Um,
I just think we need to take, they are not Ohio State at the moment. They're not Michigan at the moment. They're not Georgia at the moment. We're just sitting here and just anointing them, hey, national champion contenders. Like, I'm not saying they can't be. I'm just saying that they haven't done a whole lot in recent years. But man, we threw them back in the mix in a heartbeat. Texas Tech 7-6, Oregon State, USC, both 8-5. Utah also 8-5.
Cal 6-7. Stanford 3-9. Washington State 5-7. Washington State and Stanford both 2-7 in conference, however. Arizona State 3-9. Colorado, we know what they were, 4-8.
I mean, it's interesting when you dive into that schedule from last year and start to find the really good ones. Like you said, the Oregon State win was solid. It was a nice one. And we'll take a look at this upcoming schedule and how we expect the Ducks to fare and answer the question, finally, will this team be in this year's college football playoff? First, G-Mac, tell our listeners about Iconic Arts and what they can do for them.

Good to see you, Bruce Feldman. The Big 12 landscape. I just know how Dion is, where he's coming from. His wins are measured differently than
The question is, as you said, it's got to go from four to eight. I think they can do that. It would be hard not to get better considering how bad they were on the offensive line last year. Now, their schedule actually feels harder this year than it was last year. Search for the Rich Eisen Show on YouTube or wherever you listen. Welcome back to McElroy Cubic in the morning, Jax 94.5.

All right, talking Oregon Ducks, will they make this year's college football playoff? And let's go to the schedule for the Ducks this season and what they are going to see. It is a little bit more complicated, I believe, than some people are saying. The reason I say that is because most folks just haven't plugged in. Like, no questions asked, don't even debate it. Oregon's in the playoff. Schedule? Eh, there's some.
There are some potential hiccups there that I see. They'll open up with Idaho. Not really going to be concerned with that one. Boise, week two at home. At Oregon State, week three. Now, Greg, that's not a game that with a new head coach and the majority of your talent gone off your roster should be competitive. But rivalry game on the road, week three, just it feels a little bit more dangerous maybe than it's going to be on paper.
I think that when you look at their schedule, it's not easy. I think it's actually quite difficult. I know, look, they have depth. They have competitive depth. They have a lot of the stuff that you would want to be able to kind of approach a season that's going to have some challenges, twists and some turns. But I think their toughest games at home, that, of course, is the Ohio State game.
You look at some of the road trips, a couple of tough ones in there for sure. One in particular that I think you probably know what I'm talking about, but all things considered, like I don't think it's an insurmountable schedule. I think 10 and two gets them in and I'd be surprised that they finished lower than 10. I mean, I really would. So the wheels would have to fall off and they'd have to have injuries to make me think that 10 and two is not without question achievable. No, definitely not an insurmountable schedule by any stretch of the imagination. They'll be at UCLA tomorrow.
After that Oregon State game, so back-to-back road trips, but manageable and two teams with two new head coaches that should be manageable as well. They'll get a third consecutive new head coach when they take on Michigan State on October the 5th. That's at home. Ohio State the 12th at home. And that's probably the first one that we look at, Greg, and say very losable game on the schedule for the Ducks right there at the midway point. Yeah, I would say that's probably the most losable game
Now, I wouldn't say that... I think the Oregon State game is a little tricky. I think the Boise State game is a little tricky. I don't think UCLA will be. I think that'll be a cakewalk for Oregon. They match up well. And I don't think UCLA is going to be very good. Ohio State... If Michigan State were on the road, I could see that one being a little bit of a tricky one. A little sleepy on the road. Got Ohio State coming the following week. It's a Friday game.
That one would stand out, but that one doesn't concern me because it's at home. So I think you're probably looking at a 5-0 start on October 12th when Ohio State comes home. All right, so after that, you'll go back on the road at Purdue on the 19th, Illinois at home on the 26th, November the 2nd at Michigan.
One that you brought up a little bit earlier. I think two tricky road games here late because you got Maryland next at home, but then you're at Wisconsin on November 16th. So two November games at Michigan at Wisconsin GMAC, which I think makes it just a tad more complicated. And there's some pretty good buzz about Wisconsin, right?
Here in the preseason, you've got to take some buzz with a slight grain of salt. Everybody's undefeated right now, and everybody feels pretty good about what they've seen in fall camp. But...
I think if you kind of look at where Wisconsin's at, I think Wisconsin has a bounce back season. It's a proud program. You got a lot of good football players. I think Tyler Van Dyke, if he can stay healthy, should be in a pretty good spot to have a bounce back season. By all accounts, the defense has been very strong. And it also sounds like the weapons are pretty good too. So I agree with you. I think a lot of people are making a lot of noise about that Michigan game. That game will beat you up.
That Michigan, they might not be super dynamic in some spots, but they will be physical. I can promise you that they will be physical as all get out. So that game might beat you up, which is less than ideal heading into kind of the rest of the season. I'm with you there. And, you know, some of the physicality down the stretch, that's something to keep an eye on for the Oregon ducks. All right. So then the question comes, you know,
Will this football team be in the college football playoff? We've kind of gone through what's been added, what was lost, gone through the roster from different perspectives. There doesn't seem to be, I mean, is there a glaring weakness, glaring concern? I know there's a lot of new bodies in the secondary, but as I stated before, you went and got some guys that have played good football other places. Is there a sort of glaring weakness, glaring concern for you from a roster perspective on this team?
Just some youth along the defensive line of scrimmage. And maybe the fact that we are unfairly characterizing that group as legitimate war daddies. I mean, I have not seen, and you tell me, maybe Oregon State was that team last year. Who is the team, though, that could maybe just pound them?
And there are some teams that they're going to face this year that could. I mean, Michigan might be that team. Maybe they go Alex Orgy, a quarterback. Maybe they pound you. Wisconsin, traditionally, they can go five deep at running back. Wisconsin is probably going to be a team that, yeah, they throw the ball more than they used to, but they still have it in them to be able to run the football. Yeah.
I think Illinois is going to try to. I think it'll all try. I don't think they'll be super successful at it. I think Ohio State will try to pound you, for sure, with what they've added and knowing Chip Kelly. You don't think they're going to try? So I think there are some teams that can pound you. I think they'll be able to hold up. I'd be surprised if this team is 10-2 or worse. I think they're cruising to a playoff spot and probably –
a Pac-12 title game appearance. I think they're in a really good spot for that. And that's partly because of the questions I have at Michigan, but I also think things set up pretty nicely for them. Yeah. All right. So a couple of poll questions that we've got up on. Where are you at? You got to tell us. You got them in? I think Oregon's in the playoff. Yes. I think they will benefit from Michigan going a little bit backwards this year. And I do think the schedule, although it has...
a couple of potential maybe unspoken pitfalls, I still think it's somewhat manageable. I am much more concerned about the November games than I think almost anybody else. I think a lot of people will point to the Michigan game and say, oh, yeah, that should be tough. But you get Maryland at home and then you're at Wisconsin. I mean, Jed will have his group kind of set by then.
So, Washington game, we'll see. I don't know if the personnel is even going to be able to get that one to be competitive, but I know from a coaching perspective, they'll be better than people think. And then at Wisconsin, I think at Wisconsin, at Michigan, both in November are just going to be tough. I do. I think it's going to be difficult. Not to mention, you're going to Michigan, coming back, and then you're going to Wisconsin, coming back. That's a lot of travel late in the year when a team's already traveled a lot anyway. So...
But I do think they get in because I think Penn State, I view Penn State in a very similar fashion that I do to Oregon. I think Ohio State's ahead of the class in that league, like ahead of both of them. But there are just not a lot of other teams in the league on that schedule that you're super scared about. I think it's a good time to catch Boise.
with what left that team in the portal and what graduated. And then you have a run of new head coaches on your schedule as well. You're going to benefit from that. So, yeah, I think Oregon's in the playoff. But I'm not sure that I believe it's because they're this dominant force that not many people can reckon with, like a lot of people are trying to make folks believe.
Yeah, I think that they're going to be very good, but I'm a little bit see it to believe it mode. I'm not anointing them yet. They could get there. Wouldn't surprise me. I will absolutely 100% change my tune if they go take it to Ohio State there in the fifth, sixth week of the season. I have no problem getting on this bandwagon. I'm just a little bit hesitant to say, oh, they're going to win the national championship or they're a top two team. They're in the same boat as
as Georgia and Ohio State. To me, Georgia and Ohio State have kind of separated themselves a little bit on paper. And then if you want to put Oregon in that next tier alongside Bama, Texas,
You know, maybe some people feel that way about Notre Dame. Maybe some people feel that way about Ole Miss. Maybe some people like Missouri there. I don't know. In that next tier, kind of that second tier where they're very much if things click into place, they stay healthy, what have you, they can win it. That's where I'd have them. But I have them more. I haven't had them closer to, say, Ole Miss than I do to Georgia right now. And a lot of people don't. I think that's actually a good comp.
I think Oregon will miss a really good comp because I think some of our deep, threaded concerns will be very similar with those two teams. Damian, Oregon in for the college football playoff for you? Yeah, I think they're in. And kind of to Greg's point, that Ohio State game is probably going to be the one that's like, okay, Oregon –
If you find a way to beat them, then you have reached that pinnacle of being in the conversation with the Georgias and the Ohio States and things. But I do think they're a lot closer to Ole Miss in that second tier right on the edge of being elite. But I do think that those games in November do raise some concerns. But I think the talent that Oregon has and what they expect it to be –
I would find it difficult that they're not in the Big Ten championship game at 11-1, at worst 10-2. But I do think that Oregon is a college football playoff team at season's end. All right, so we all believe Oregon is in the college football playoff. Poll question up now at Mac and Cube. You can go give us your thoughts there. 800-239-9569 if you want to get in and give us your thoughts on whether or not you think this team makes the college football playoffs.

Can you transcribe that for us? I'm going to need some transcription there. I need to know exactly what's said because it's hard enough to hear it. A lot of people talking. All right. And there were people talking about Colorado after a press conference that took place late last week. Before we get to that, I'll tell you how to get tailgate ready. It's at Royal Automotive. First off, was asked this question early on in the press conference. Eric Christensen with CBS Sports Colorado. How you doing? CBS. I'm not doing nothing with CBS. Next question. Joe Rego, my office. I ain't got nothing to do with you. It's above that. I ain't got nothing to do with you. I got love for you. I appreciate and respect you. I ain't got nothing to do with you. They know what they did. I'm here in Denver, not National. You are who you are.
CBS is CBS. All right. I respect you. That's why I told you that. I'm looking at you now as a man. I respect you. I got love for you. But what they did was foul. All right. So not playing the game with anyone from CBS there, Greg. What did they do? That's all I could. That's all I could try to figure out. Like what? What happened? Help me understand.
My understanding is that there were a couple, maybe one or maybe two, like preseason polls rankings that had him the second worst coach in the Big 12. That was a CBS Sports poll. That's all I can find. That's all I know. I don't know if there was something else that took place. I do feel like if you're going to make that big a deal about it, then go ahead and put out there what it is.
Because that would then essentially excuse a little bit of that behavior, in my opinion. It was David Cobb ranked the Big 12 coaches, and he was second to last. So, Dillingham coming in last. Does Kenny Dillingham answer questions from CBS reporters? Imagine being CBS Denver. It's like...
I mean, it's like our friends. It would be like JJ having to respond. JJ Pruitt, our JJ here in Birmingham. It'd be like him having to respond for something that Joel Klatt said. Like, what? They're not related. That's just not fair. That's not fair. Also, why are you paying attention to it? He was asked this question also about, well...
From the Denver Post. Coach Sean Keeler, the Denver Post. Happy summer, my man. You don't like us, man. Why do you do this to yourself? Come on. You don't like us. Mark likes me, by the way. Mark said he likes me. No, but you don't. Why do you do this, though? No, no, I'm sorry. Two-parter.
I'm serious. Why do you do this? Like, you know, you don't like, why do you do that? It's not about that football question. Why do you do this? Like, it would be hard for me to really engage in someone I don't like or something I don't like. I'm just asking why? Like, why? What did I do? You didn't do anything.
it's not about that but this is a football question i'm asking you why yeah you can ask that they just can't answer me because you want me to answer you so yeah okay that's right that's fair why why because i have questions why what what's your why what do you want to know why do you you're always on attack like what what did we do where am i where am i on attack today where am i on attack yeah i'm gonna i'm not gonna give you opportunities to be on attack but i'm asking you why like what does it do for you like what happened it's not it's not about me but what happened
to get you like this? It's a good question. No, I'm serious. Because I want to help. No, I'm serious. I want to help. Because it's not normal. We can talk about that. We can talk about that. Okay. Can I ask you a football question? No. Seriously. No, we can talk about that. When we talk about that, I'll talk about that with you. Can we ask you a football question, please? When I talk about that, we talk about that. We can talk about that. I have a question over here. Let's go. All right.
I love that one dude's had enough. Like, hey, I'm trying to work. Can we get this done, please? But another one, Greg, that he's – Coach Prime's just not going to – not doing it, not playing the game. I just don't – I don't understand. Like, is he reading – like, coaches that read press clippings and stuff like that, man, that's a dangerous game, dude. You're taking a lot of good. You're taking a lot of bad.
So I guess I just don't think it's ever good for the long-term prospects to be acknowledging what's written or said about you. It's never good for you. Like, it's never good. You handle, and when you go to the podium, you answer for yourself. That's fine, but...
I just don't think it's ever a good long-term play. Coaches that get sensitive and have thin skin and stuff like that, I just never think it's a good play, ever. I just don't think it's ever good. I don't think it's a good look because I don't know who the heck those two reporters are. But Deion, I feel, could have taken the high road and didn't. I just don't understand why.
One of the reporters at this press conference, Sean Keeler from the Denver Post, will join us tomorrow and just give him his thoughts on why this thing kind of went personal, why it went certain ways. Do we have the audio when he's asked about the offensive line from the press conference? Because this I thought was also interesting, and this didn't feel like it was a guy that had done anything wrong and was at least asking about the team. Then you start rolling into technicalities on exactly –
How words are used when you're asked a question. Semantics, basically, if you will, of just kind of how he handled and managed some other portions of that press conference. And it's just, we'll get to it on the other side because there's a little bit more of this that I want to hear. And I want to get feedback, 800-239-9569. You can tweet in at Mac and Cube. Just like, is this behavior excusable?
How does it change your opinion of Coach Prime, maybe of this upcoming season for this group, outside of piecing together practice videos to look like touchdown passes?

Support your veterans by choosing Crocker Movement Services for your next move. All right. Coach Prime was asked about his offensive line and kind of, well, I don't want to use any of the words because I'm going to get in trouble, but just play the clip. Hey, Coach. Arnie Stapleton from Associated Press. You've bolstered your offensive line here in this second season. What does bolstered mean?
You beefed it up? Because, you know, I don't know all that bolstered stuff. I never used that in a sentence in my life. All right, you beefed up your offensive line in the South Sea. Beefed up. How do you sort of microwave that chemistry? Improved. Improved. Bolstered. Provided with padded support, according to dictionary.com. The Guardian caps. Go ahead. Whoa. I think they all have those on, by the way, in the receivers. Oh, boy, do they. Okay, go ahead. How about improved? Improved.
Let's say that we've improved our offensive line. Okay. How do you get that? Everybody talks about that's a, you know, the five have to work in unison and the chemistry is such an important thing. What is chemistry? Chemistry is a branch of natural science that deals principally with the properties of substances, the changes they undergo, and the natural laws that describe those changes. So, slap protection. Essentially. Gotcha. Okay. Continue, please. Use it all the time. What is it?
Yeah, but you guys work together. You don't like each other, most of you. You love each other. No, you don't. That's the end of that question, I guess. I don't think chemistry is an unfair question when it relates to the offensive line. Maybe you could have gone continuity. It would have been a little bit different one, Greg, that some people may have felt was a little more adequate. But like I said before we started talking about all this, semantics. Well, yeah, and you say better, but how do we know?
How do we know they're better? Like, I actually think bolstered is a more appropriate term now than if we're three weeks in. If we're three weeks in, we can talk about if they're better. Now what you've done is gone out and you've accumulated more talent, which maybe he wanted it said that way. But, okay, you don't want bolstered? Okay, you've gone out and gotten guys that you think are more talented. Is that group operating in a better fashion this time more so than they were a year ago?
How about can you describe how your offensive line is better now than last year? Because if it's not chemistry, then what is it? Their kicks, their kick steps are better. Like, you know, they open up their hits better when they pull. Like, they finish better. They keep their hands inside more often. Like, how detailed do you want to get with it? I don't know. Here's the thing. Can they get worse? Lord knows I hope not. Honest question. Well, they can. Yes, absolutely. Oh, boy. You think they can get worse?
Yeah. I've seen worse groups than that last year, and they weren't good. They were bad. But I've seen some that have been a little bit worse. Well, I'll say a prayer for them if they can get worse. How about this? You want to know a way you can keep them from getting better again this year? Completely revamp the offense week six again and see how that goes.
All that is fair. I do think that there's reason for optimism, though. They're going to play on the perimeter. We know that that's who they are. They're not going to be a group that's going to ground and pound you. It's just not who they are. It's not what they believe in. It's not a good way to feature the weapons that they have. They're going to live on the perimeter, and you can win that way. There's plenty of teams that do. But their offensive line single-handedly got them beat multiple times last year. That, coupled with...
Shador's inability to slide in the pocket, move in the pocket, and kind of his refusal to take off and step up when needed. That was also problematic. So I look at kind of where they're trending, and I don't like the deflection from Dion more than anything else. I just feel like there's some deflecting there. Maybe, hey, look, nobody knows what's going on. Maybe practice was frustrating. Maybe the offensive line was uniquely frustrating in practice in and of itself.
But I don't know, man. I'd be a little worried about that offensive line group. I'm in see it to believe it mode with that group. They were so bad last year that I'm in see it to believe it mode. I'm hoping they're better. I'm praying they're better. I don't know if they are though. And we'll find out pretty quickly because in that league, you better be good up front offensively and defensively because there's some teams that will be, and you're going to have to play to that to an extent. I didn't ask Damian to pull it, but one other thing, Greg, that stuck out in this press conference when I was listening to it is, um,
And this is not verbatim. So take it for what you will. But there was a portion in that press conference that he was asked about the schedule and clearly stated week one we won't be showing much. Oh, boy. To me, that's not that kind of a non-conference game. No. I think you better show up with a couple chin straps then. If you're going to play vanilla, you better be able to play. All right, we'll talk to Billy Lucci next.
I'm not self-aware. I refuse to be self-aware. I don't even look at mirrors at all.
