Commit to a path of action today, not Monday morning. I'm going to start. Why would you start Monday morning when you have today right now?

So whatever you're trying to do, man, if you plan it on eating right, start today. You plan on exercising, start today. If you plan on saving, save today. If you plan on having a better relationship with the person you love, start right now. As you begin to look out on your life, this is challenging. This is not easy acting. You've got to bring it out and look at it. You've got to take the power out of it.

You've got to expose it to the truth. And the truth is that it has no power over you. So write down something you want to act on, but for some reason that you've been holding back and look at it. Ask yourself the question, is it helping you to continue to put it off? If it's an asset for you to continue to procrastinate, then continue to do that. Ask yourself what's blocking you? What's preventing you from acting?

Why don't you have the courage to handle that? Why won't you face that? What are you running away from? What kind of avoidance behavior are you engaged in? Before the feeling passes and before the idea gets dim, action pronto, action immediate, action as soon as possible. Because if you don't, here's what happens. We call it the law of diminishing intent.

We intend to when the idea strikes us. We intend to when the emotion is high. But now if you don't translate that into action fairly soon, now the intent starts to diminish, diminish, diminish. And a month from now it's cold. A year from now, it can't be found. So act. Set up a discipline when the emotions are high and the idea is strong and clear and powerful. That's the time to set up a discipline. When we look out on our lives, you ask the question, what are you going to do?

Look at as you think about this that you know you need to handle What are you going to do and then write down three strong reasons on why you know you must take action and

and being explicit and descriptive in your reasons because your reasons have power. Your reasons will drive you. When you have doubt, when your faith becomes weak, your reasons will fortify your faith. When you have an inner conversation, say, "No, don't do that." Your reasons will become your rod and your staff to comfort you, to take you through those challenging moments. So write down your reasons and what you will find that when you decide to act,

When you decide to take life on, and let me warn you, it can be painful. It will be uncomfortable. And that's where the growth is. I'm going to tell you what people don't want to tell you. Why don't you stop?

Planning. Now that you've decided and you've started, you start making plans,

It's incredible what can happen as a source of inspiration. When finally what's in your head, what's in your imagination now finally starts to take shape on paper. When I first heard about network marketing, I was 25 years old and I heard some of the testimonials and I heard that people have gotten rich and I've heard that it's changed people's lives. And I've heard that you could start with nothing and become something. But let me tell you what was exciting.

When I finally made the decision, yes, I was going to be part of the industry. Yes, I was going to make it part of my marketing future. What was really exciting was when I sat down and started making plans. I started committing imagination and belief to paper. I started writing it down. I started started, as we often do, drawing those circles. You know, what if I had five? What if I had ten?

And then when I had a concept of what that could bring for me, then I said, how can I reach the first five? How can I reach the first ten? What could I do? Starting to make those plans, I'm telling you, I remember those days as if they were yesterday. They were so exciting. I had a concept of what I wanted. I had a dream of what could happen for me. If it could happen for others, maybe it could happen for me. But when I started putting it on paper and started making the plans,

That was an incredible source of inspiration for me. Because the plan seemed to now start making it real. That what I had thought about, what I dreamed about, now I'm actually getting to it by making a plan. However, you can make all the plans in the world and it is a source of inspiration for only so long.

And you can make one plan and then you can make another plan. And you can make some plans today and the next day you can make some more plans and the next day you can make some more plans. And it is a very exciting source of inspiration but only for a while. I'm sure we would all agree that making plans that inspiration wouldn't last for a week. Now, that inspiration now must drive you to do number three.

The first source of inspiration is deciding. Second source of inspiration is planning. And now here's a big source of inspiration. Beginning, getting started. Actually turning thought and the notes on the paper, the plans, actually now committing it to action. Getting started. And beginning can be an incredible source of inspiration.

Guess what you can say when you begin a change in your diet? What you can say? I'm on a new track. I have carved out for myself a new beginning. I'm on my way to the most incredible health. I will never be the same again. I'm leaving the old undisciplined part of me. I'm leaving that behind. I'm a new person.

I'm taking my first shake. I'm swallowing the first tablets. I made my first, you know, walk around the block that I thought about for so long and never did. I finally did it today. I've started. I have begun. That is an incredible source of inspiration. And that is to start, to begin walking.

You cannot believe what can happen to your self-esteem. And many of you have already experienced it. I'm just asking you to begin something new in all the areas of your life. Maybe you've always thought about benevolence and you just haven't gotten started or you haven't made the plans or you haven't made the decision. I'm asking you to start taking that stuff now that's in your head, that imagination, which is very powerful.

And it's a great source of inspiration in itself. But then I'm asking you then to decide, use that inspiration. Then I'm asking you to make plans, begin to make plans, use that inspiration. And then if you take that first step, it can be the first step of an incredible journey. And beginning can be many things. Beginning a new commitment to learning. You say, "I'm gonna have a library second to none. And I bought the first book of my new library today."

I'm going to be surrounded by information and inspiration. The cassette tapes and the videos and the books. I'm going to have a library second to none. I've thought about it. Wouldn't it be wonderful? And, you know, I've started making plans. You know, I provided some space in my room for my expanded library. But here's what's exciting. I got the first book today.

I've gotten started. This is just the first of many, many books. This is the first of a whole flow of information for me. This is the first time. You want to learn a new skill and you sign up for a class. Let's say you want to learn accounting or something and you sign up for the class and you take the first class. You get started. You thought about it. You made some plans for it. You made some time for it. But there's nothing like sitting there in the class

With the pin in your hand and the pad ready to take notes here I am I'm starting on a new journey of learning You know you called me the master of motivation, and I think motivation is complete garbage So maybe we should start there that is a perfect place to start so I totally agree with you I said that in the spirit of I know what you're trying to do so it is meant with absolute reverence But why do you say that it's garbage well? And we'll talk a lot about this but

I think it's garbage because at some point we all bought into this lie

that you gotta feel ready in order to change. We bought into this complete falsehood that at some point you're gonna have the courage, at some point you're gonna have the confidence, and it's total bullsh*t, frankly. It's complete garbage. And so there are so many people in the world, and you may be watching this right now, and you have these incredible ideas, and what you think is missing is motivation.

And that's not true because the way that our minds are wired,

And the fact about human beings is that we are not designed to do things that are uncomfortable or scary or difficult. Our brains are designed to protect us from those things because our brains are trying to keep us alive. And in order to change, in order to build a business, in order to be the best parent, the best spouse, to do all those things that you know you want to do with your life, with your work, with your dreams, you're going to have to do things that are difficult.

uncertain or scary, which sets up this problem for all of us. You're never going to feel like it. Motivation is garbage. You only feel motivated to do the things that are easy, right? What do you think that is? Oh, I know exactly why that is. Because I've studied this so much because for me, one of the hardest things to figure out was why is it so hard to do the little things that would improve my life?

And what I've come to realize and what we'll talk a lot about today is that the way that our minds are designed is our minds are designed to stop you at all costs from doing anything that might hurt you. And the way that this all happens is it all starts with something super subtle that none of us ever catch. And that is with this habit that all of us have that nobody's talking about.

We all have a habit of hesitating. We have an idea, you're sitting in a meeting, you have this incredible idea, and instead of just, you know, saying it, you stop and you hesitate. Now what none of us realize is that when you hesitate, just that moment, that micro moment, that small hesitation, it sends a stress signal to your brain.

It wakes your brain up and your brain all of a sudden goes, oh, wait a minute. Why is he hesitating? He didn't hesitate when he put on his killer spiky sneakers. He didn't hesitate with the really cool track pants. He didn't hesitate with the NASA t-shirt. Now he's hesitating to talk. Something must be up. So then your brain goes to work to protect you. It has a million different ways to protect you. One of them is called the spotlight effect. It's a known phenomenon where your brain magnifies risk. Why? To pull you away from something that it perceives to be a problem. And so...

You can truly trace every single problem or complaint in your life to silence and hesitation. Those are decisions. And what I do and what's changed my life is waking up and realizing that motivation is garbage. I'm never going to feel like doing the things that are tough or difficult or uncertain or scary or new. So I need to stop waiting until I feel like it. And number two,

I am one decision away from a totally different marriage, a totally different life, a totally different job, a totally different income, a totally different relationship with my kids. Not like one decision I'm divorcing you in the marriage example, but one decision on, you know, you could be having a conversation with your spouse and you feel your emotions rise up and within a tiny window, those emotions rise.

can take over and can impact how your marriage goes. Or you can learn how to take control of that micro moment and make a decision to act in a way that actually shifts your marriage. Your life comes down to your decisions. And if you change your decisions, you will change everything.
