To the pessimist, the glass is always half empty.

To the optimist, the glass is half full. Why would the same measure affect people two different ways? Answer, it all depends on how you look at it. Our lives are mostly affected by the way we think things are, not the way they are. The way we think they are affects us most. One of the major things Shove taught me when I met him, he said, "Poor thinking habits keeps most people poor."

not poor working habits. Most people work hard, but they don't think hard. And Shof taught me that the mind is like a factory, a mental factory. And whatever you think about all day long pours ingredients into this mental factory. And that's what builds the economic, social, financial fabric of your life. He quoted me a Bible phrase that says, as you think, so you become. You have control of this. This belongs to you. This is yours.

You're the captain, you're the master, you're the foreman, you're the general, you're the head. Don't give control of this to nobody. What is the gift? Your higher faculties. Your perception, memory, imagination, reason, intuition, and the will. These are all high mental tools.

Through imagination, we can zip ourself onto a higher frequency. We just use our imagination and build a picture of the good we want. And then we hold that picture with our will. The will is what gives us the idea to focus, to concentrate. When President John Kennedy asked Dr. Warner Von Braun what it would take to build a rocket that would carry man to the moon and bring him back safely to Earth, Von Braun said, "The will to do." In other words, you've got to see it and hold the picture in your mind. You are attracted to it when you need it.

What would your life be like as you look toward the future? If you decided, I'm not going to allow my fears to stop me. What would your life be like? What would your future be like if you decided to want that which you desire so strongly that it prepares you past your fears, that you experience the fear, as one book says, feel the fear and do it anyway. What would your life be like?

And I'm saying to you that all of us who have been entombed by fear have the capacity to resurrect ourselves and to resurrect our dreams. When you wake up in the morning, I expect to win. I expect it to be a great day. Listen to me very closely. I do not get up at three o'clock in the morning to lose.

Expect to be successful. Expect it to be positive. When you set out for a goal, expect that it's going to happen. That's all I need you to do. Number one, expect it to happen. Many of you have been selling yourself short all of your life. You have the opportunity to experience more environmental, physical, and mental abundance. Someone who is in a constant state of elevation. Their self-talk.

is I know who I am, I know where I'm going and I know where I came from. If you simply commit yourself to creating what you really care for, now once again your thought gets organized in such a way there is no such thing as whether it's possible or not possible. There is no hurdle in your thought process. Your thought flows freely towards what you want. Once this happens, making it happen will also naturally follow.

So, to create what you really care for, first and foremost thing is that what you want must be well manifested in your mind that this is what I want. Is that what you really want, you must look at it because any number of things in your life you have thought this is it, the moment you reach there, you realize that's not it, it's the next one and the next one and the next one. So, what is it that one really wants is one thing, first of all, we must explore. Once that is clear,

and we are committed to creating it. Now there is a continuous process of thought in that direction. Once you can maintain a steady stream of thought without changing direction, definitely this is going to happen in your life or it will definitely manifest as a reality in your life. Now there's two ways to ask and we'll wrap up Goal Setting. Two ways.

Here's number one: Ask with intelligence. It didn't say ask intelligently, but I'm sure it meant that. Don't mumble. You don't get anything by mumbling. Be clear, be specific. Intelligent asking means how wide, how high, how soon, when, what size, what color, how much. Define what you want and describe what you want. That's powerful. In the weekend seminar we teach, goals become like a magnet.

They pull you that direction and the better you describe them, the more they pull. So ask intelligently. Here's number two. Ask with faith. That's the childish part of the equation. Believe you can get what you want like a child, not an adult. Adults are too skeptical. So the formula really reads, make plans like an adult and believe in them like a child. And the most incredible things will happen. Just try it for 90 days.

Just try it. You can always go back to the old ways. What does that mean to you, this victory? It means everything. It means everything. It means you were right. It means they were right. It means that the people that didn't believe, they were wrong. It means that when you don't believe, you do yourself a disservice because it is wrong.

So you got to believe. You got to believe in what you want to do. You got to believe in what you want to get accomplished and believe that somehow, somewhere within yourself and in the universe around you, there are tools and resources that will be of aid and help the man that really wants to get it done. For some time now, I've been interested in a discovery about human behavior called self-image psychology. You may already be familiar with the self-image idea.

This is the principle that each of us is controlled by his mental picture of himself. If you thought much about it, I'm sure you agree that a good self-image is vital to our happiness and to the achievement of our goals in life. But if you aren't yet familiar with this new idea, let me introduce it by quoting my old friend doctor, Maxwell Maltz, who said, "The most important psychological discovery of the century is the discovery of the self-image.

Our self-image is our own conception of the sort of person I am. Each of us builds a self-image out of his beliefs about himself. It's unconsciously formed from past experiences, our successes and failures, our humiliations and triumphs. It determines the way we interpret other people's reactions to us. In short, this mental picture

we have of ourselves, turns out to be a kind of life governing device. That's the most significant part of the whole self-image principle. That our mental picture determines our interpretation of everything that goes on about us. Our reactions to life and other people, our feelings, thoughts, actions, even our ability. We are the person we believe ourselves to be, if we're anywhere near normal. And we're consistently that person in everything. Now it's interesting, isn't it?

It's exciting, too, when we realize that our self-image can be changed. If, for one reason or another, we've developed an image that's too limited to permit our achieving maximum results in life, that image can be enlarged, improved. There's one point to keep in mind here, though. We can't outgrow the limits we impose on ourselves.

Our thoughts, habits, even our abilities must be those of the person we believe ourselves to be. We can set new limits in place of old ones, but we can't surpass the limits of our current self image. There's a story about a Wisconsin farmer who was walking through his fields one day when he stumbled over a little glass jug in his pumpkin patch.

Out of curiosity, he poked a young pumpkin through the neck of the jug, being careful not to break the vine. Then he placed his little experiment back on the ground and walked away. When harvest time came, the farmer was working his way down a row of big ripe pumpkins when he again came upon the glass jug. But this time it looked different. Picking it up,

he discovered that the young pumpkin he'd poked inside now completely filled its glass prison. Having no more room, it had stopped growing. The farmer broke the jug and held in his hand a runt pumpkin, less than half the size of all the other pumpkins and exactly the shape of the jug. Well, people aren't pumpkins, but our self-image is something like that jug. It determines the size and kind of person we become.

The similarity ends with the fact that we can remove our self-imposed limitations by enlarging our self-image. We form a mental picture of ourselves through experience and we can change that picture the same way, through experience. If the actual experience we need is not available to us, we can, according to self-image psychology, create that experience synthetically.

Now scientists agree that the human nervous system is incapable of distinguishing between actual experience and the same experience imagined vividly and in complete detail. Worry is a good example of this synthetic experience.

When a person worries about something, he projects himself mentally, emotionally, even physically, into a situation that hasn't even occurred. The man who worries intensely about, well, say, failure, finds himself experiencing the same reactions that accompany actual failure. Feelings of anxiety, inadequacy, and humiliation, and eventually headaches and an upset stomach. As far as his mind and body are concerned, he

he has failed and if he worries about it long enough if he concentrates on failure intensely enough he will upset himself to the extent that he will fail and he'll get sick now everything can be used in either of two ways positively or negatively constructively or destructively worry is the negative use of creative imagination but most people apparently never realize that positive results

Just as real as the negative results of worry can be achieved through using our imagination constructively. Our minds are complex and marvelous, but like electronic computers, they can only act on the data we feed them. The man who worries about failure is unwittingly defeating himself. He is feeding his mind the wrong data. If he spent the same amount of time visualizing success as he spends thinking about failure, he can develop confidence.

Self-assurance, poise and a feeling of well-being would replace apprehension. By concentrating on the success he desires, by synthetically experiencing that success, he can expand his self-image into that of a person for whom success is normal, expected. Why not practice holding the self-image of the person you most want to become?
