Good morning, this is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's tip is to pause and marvel at the natural beauty around you whenever you get a chance. Even better, you can rally the people around you to do the same.

Doing so can make an ordinary moment extraordinary. I know most people listening to this podcast are very busy, but however busy you are, there is something awe-inspiring about a rainbow. Most of us don't see these daily. So if you do see one, acknowledge it. If you're in a parking lot, you can wait a minute before getting in your car. If you see one out your office window, you can stop before going back to what you are doing.

You can also mention it to the people who are near you. Joe, Jill, check out the rainbow you can see from Doug's window. Honestly, you can even tell strangers. To that friendly-looking person giving in the civic across the way, you could say, hey, did you see that double rainbow? Experiencing awe together is the basis of most religions. You may or may not practice a traditional religion, but you can tap into that same experience by gawking at nature. Do it with others.

and you are all in a grand cathedral together. So if there is an exciting lightning storm, gather your family on the porch if it is safe and admire the beauty and power. If there is an amazing sunset while you're waiting for the bus, say, oh wow, look at that. No doubt the other people waiting for the bus will look up and take a glance too. No need to take it beyond that if people just want to be in their own little worlds or with their headphones. But there is also no reason to just silently observe.

observe and share. A big full moon can inspire you to point it out to others at a restaurant. I am grateful that someone in line with me at an amusement park once pointed out Jupiter in the night sky. Several of us stood there and looked at the bright light. So clear, there was no mistaking it. And we could marvel at how the planet was so many millions of miles away. And yet, we could see it. There are always a million things to do.

But pausing to marvel doesn't take much time, and it can introduce a moment of transcendence into an ordinary day. That wasn't a normal rainy day bus ride. That was a bus ride with a rainbow. Finding the sublime in day-to-day life makes time more than what it is. Any given moment could be something more. In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks for listening, and here's to making the most of our time.
