It's time to level up your business with a podcast that teaches you the top strategies, tactics, and growth hacks that every entrepreneur needs to know. Please welcome your host, whose small business blog gets more than 1 million visitors every single month, Brandon Gailey.
Welcome aboard to episode 45 of the Zero to Seven Figures podcast, as we continue on with this week's theme of how to dramatically improve your performance. In this episode, I will be sharing wisdom from an infographic via my blog, BrandonGaley.com, which will teach you 11 ways to have a productive commute to work. Let's start with number one, switch to public transportation.
If you want to find more time in your day, switch from driving to using public transportation. It'll be a net gain in productivity. It might take longer and be less reliable, but without having to keep your eyes on the road, you can get a lot more done. Number two, plan your day.
If you're not using public transportation and you're driving, you can use the popular app Evernote because it has an audio recording function so you can still jot down your thoughts while you're driving on the road. Number three, clear your email inbox. Employees in large companies spend 14% of their time just on emails. Clear out your inbox before you get to the office and get a fresh start to your day.
Start by deleting anything that doesn't require action or archiving and then respond to or mark up any critical emails. Number four, start on your work. The average time spent by travelers riding the train or the bus to work every day is 33.5 minutes. Try getting any quick and easy tasks done during your commute.
And number five, listen to a podcast. Be it educational, motivational, or entertaining, pick out a podcast to suit your mood.
Now, you're clearly listening to a podcast right now, so you're above the curve on this aspect. But just imagine if you only listen to podcasts every time you commute to and from work and the amount of information that you can obtain and the amount of expertise that you can build upon.
6. Get your social media fix out of the way. Whether it's Facebook, LinkedIn, or Pinterest, if social media isn't a part of your job, check it now instead of wasting your time later when you're at work. 7.
Exercise. You can use your commute as your workout by cycling to work or walking to work. If this isn't feasible, drivers can try parking a bit further out and walking the remaining distance. Those who catch public transportation can try getting off a few stops earlier and walking the rest of the way. And the rest of your walk, you could be listening to podcasts the entire time.
8. Read something that's challenging. Reading might be the classic commuting activity, but try challenging yourself by mixing up your reading list. Try reading newspapers and publications relevant to your industry. 9. Start a new hobby.
If you're commuting by public transportation or carpooling, use your free hands creatively. Sketch, write, or knit, and then sell your creations on Etsy. Number 10, sing out loud. Here's one that's perfect for you drivers. Just go ahead and sing your heart out.
It exercises the muscles in your upper body even when sitting and puts you in a positive mood by reducing stress levels. So start or end your day on a high note because research has shown that happiness makes people more productive. And number 11, practice mindfulness. Staring out the window isn't just for when your Wi-Fi stops working.
Practice mindfulness by continuously being aware of your body, what you see, and what you hear. If your mind wanders or you get distracted by the phone, pull yourself back into a state of clear mindfulness. And that's going to do it for this episode. I hope you enjoyed today's wisdom and I look forward to sharing more wisdom with you in the next episode.
