Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that typically causes flu-like symptoms, such as cough, fever, nasal congestion, and shortness of breath. Recently, there have been reports of increased cases in China. HMPV is primarily transmitted through respiratory droplets and by touching contaminated surfaces. While the virus can affect individuals of all ages, young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of experiencing severe illness. There is currently no specific treatment or vaccine for HMPV, so prevention relies on good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and avoiding close contact with sick individuals. Despite its global circulation, health authorities emphasize that HMPV is a common seasonal virus and caution against unnecessary panic.
