One chime indicates the AirPods case has a low battery (40% or less). Another chime, a shrill sound played when the case is closed with AirPods inside, signifies a calibration process. A third chime, similar to the low battery chime but distinct, may signal a charging error, such as poor earbud contact.
The AirPods case charging sounds can only be disabled when the AirPods are connected to an iPhone. This forces users to retrieve the AirPods, connect them, and then access the settings, rather than simply having a setting available regardless of connection status.
An orange light when nothing is in the case or with AirPods inside means the case or AirPods (respectively) are charging. A green light signals a full charge for both the case and AirPods. When the AirPods are not in the case, the case's light indicates its own charge status: green for full, orange for less than one full charge.
The Hisense 116UX features a "Trichroma LED" backlight composed of RGB LEDs, allowing for colored backlights. This technology achieves 97% coverage of the BT220 color space and a peak brightness of 10,000 nits. However, its $30,000 price tag makes it less appealing compared to similarly priced microLED TVs.
The MediaTek Pentonic 800 chipset allows television manufacturers to include four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, a feature previously limited to LG and Samsung TVs. This is significant because it allows for more high-bandwidth devices to be connected simultaneously.
DLSS 4 can generate three interpolated frames between rendered frames, as opposed to just one in DLSS 3, significantly boosting frame rates. DLSS frame generation uses motion and depth information from the game engine to interpolate between rendered frames, rather than simply extrapolating from previous frames.
The Kuycon G27-X offers a similar 5K resolution and 27-inch size at a much lower price of $1,000. However, its stand lacks articulation and adjustability, and the case design, while mimicking the XDR, uses a simpler, less expensive construction.
At $1,200, the Asus PA32QCV provides the same 6K resolution and 32-inch size as the Apple Pro Display XDR at a fraction of the cost. While it lacks HDR and mini-LED backlighting, it offers a wide range of connectivity options and a built-in KVM switch, making it a strong value proposition compared to even the Apple Studio Display.
Tim Cook's personal $1 million donation is seen by critics as supporting an administration whose values clash with those espoused by Apple. It's viewed as a symbolic gesture, regardless of the donation's impact, and raises concerns about corporate influence on politics.
John's new app is called Hyperspace, designed to reclaim disk space by replacing duplicate files with clones. ATP members can access the TestFlight beta through a link on their member page at ATP.fm.
The initial TestFlight builds of Hyperspace will perform all functions except the final space reclamation step. This is to prevent data loss on testers' drives and allow for repeated testing with the same duplicate files.
Feedback can be submitted through the TestFlight app on macOS by selecting Hyperspace and clicking "Send Feedback." Alternatively, users can email [email protected] with comments, suggestions, or bug reports.
Hyperspace will be free to download and scan. Several purchasing options are being considered, including a one-time purchase, time-limited unlocks (one month, one year), a lifetime unlock, and subscriptions. The goal is to balance accessibility with sustainable funding for ongoing development.
Due to the risk of data loss, Hyperspace will initially avoid scanning files within user libraries, iCloud Drive, and similar cloud storage services. This conservative approach prioritizes safety in the early versions of the app.
John's challenges include navigating the fixed rear wiper and washer nozzle placement while clearing snow and ice, the wipers' recessed position under the hood, and the more delicate washer nozzles integrated into the wiper arms themselves.
Casey has utilized a Home Assistant integration with Volvo's APIs to automate car preconditioning on weekday mornings when the car is plugged in. This integration also provides data on battery level and charging status within Home Assistant.
Marco believes CarPlay's single-screen design is optimal, as it provides a good balance of functionality for users while allowing automakers to retain control over essential car functions displayed in the instrument cluster. He also feels CarPlay's current feature set and reliability are not robust enough to justify a full dashboard takeover.
