The Police do not want to answer a simple question put to them by MaltaRightNow.com about the traffic accident outside the Santa Venera tunnel, in which the Minister of Justice Owen Bonnici was involved. We asked if, as sometimes happens in such cases, a breathalyser test was done . Yesterday morning, we sent three specific questions to the Police: if a breathalyser test was done when the Police arrived at the scene, if it was done on who and what was the result.

But the Police did not answer any of these questions. The response of the Public Relations Section of the Body to our questions about the breathalyser test was only that the investigations are still ongoing and therefore it is not prudent to comment. The Police and the Government hid this case for five whole days. While the Police did not issue any statement about the incident, as usually happens, it was only five days after the incident took place and a few hours after we revealed the story that the Government issued a statement.

The statement published by the Ministry of Justice, led by Bonnici himself, confirmed word for word what was revealed. But now, Minister Owen Bonnici is admitting that the decision to keep this case hidden from the media and the public was a wrong one. He said that it would have been better if, for the sake of transparency, the Minister or at least the Police had issued a statement with the details of the case. In the case in question, Owen Bonnici killed two young people, one of whom had to be operated on because he broke his leg.
