Deep Dive

Key Insights

Why are hemorrhoids often associated with issues in the liver and gallbladder according to Chinese medicine?

Hemorrhoids are associated with liver and gallbladder issues because the ectoderm cells in the rectal area and the bile ducts share a similar origin and function. Both areas are involved in drainage, and any imbalance or toxicity in the liver and gallbladder can affect the rectal area, leading to hemorrhoids.

What emotional conflict is linked to hemorrhoids in Chinese medicine?

Hemorrhoids are linked to the identity and territorial anger conflict, which occurs when someone or something imposes on your territory, affecting your identity and causing emotional trauma. This conflict can stimulate the brain areas related to the gallbladder, liver, and hemorrhoid area, leading to physical symptoms.

How can emotional healing help in managing hemorrhoids?

Emotional healing techniques like neuro-emotional technique (NET), EFT tapping, and neurofeedback can help resolve identity and territorial conflicts. By processing and releasing these emotions, the body can reduce stagnation in the liver, gallbladder, and hemorrhoid area, leading to improved symptoms.

What are some recommended herbal remedies for hemorrhoids?

Recommended herbal remedies include Bu Zhong Yiqi Granules for blood circulation, Yin Zhi Anorectal Smoked Lotion, Golden Thread (Chinese coptis), and Body Guard Supreme (chanca piedra). These herbs help cleanse the area, reduce inflammation, and combat infections.

Why is reducing sugar intake important for managing hemorrhoids?

Reducing sugar intake is important because sugar can feed infections like yeast, mold, and bacteria that can build up in the hemorrhoid area. An anti-inflammatory diet that minimizes sugar can help reduce dampness and heat, which are contributing factors to hemorrhoids.

What lifestyle changes can help reduce hemorrhoids?

Lifestyle changes that can help reduce hemorrhoids include using infrared saunas and cold plunge therapies to reset the autonomic nervous system, reducing sugar intake, and adopting an anti-inflammatory diet. These changes can help reduce dampness and heat, improve circulation, and support overall healing.

Welcome to the Ancient Health Podcast, where East meets West in the world of medicine. I'm Dr. Chris Motley, and here we explore how modern Western science and traditional Eastern wisdom come together to unlock the body's full healing potential. Each week, we'll dive into powerful tools, techniques, and approaches from both sides of the world to help you optimize your health and live with vitality. Let's bridge the gap between ancient practices and cutting-edge medicine. Let's get started.

Hello friends, welcome to the Ancient Health Podcast. I'm your host Dr. Chris Motley and today we're going to talk about hemorrhoids. We're going to talk about how they are formed according to the Chinese medicine world. Also, what are the things that can contribute to hemorrhoids such as emotions, toxins, and infections. What are the herbs that can help clean out hemorrhoids and those herbs can be Chinese coptis.

or golden thread supreme, as we like to call it. Another one's called chanca piedra, which is known as bodyguard supreme. These help cleanse out the tissue of the hemorrhoid area, and it also shows a direct correlation to the organs such as the gallbladder and the liver, which have direct correlation with hemorrhoid production. So we're going to talk about these types of herbals, and we're going to talk about if

There are certain types of foods that can actually lead to hemorrhoid production or inflammation. And then what are some of the therapies that we can look into to help you with this type of condition? Now, this can be a subject matter for some people to not want to talk about. I talk about these types of things in my office every single day. But some individuals think it's a subject matter that is very, very touchy as in,

Not to say it's embarrassing, it's just not a subject many people like to talk about because when you're talking about symptoms such as rectal itching, rectal swelling, pain when having bowel movements, pain when sitting, rashes around the pelvis, smells around that area, any type of discharge, many people don't want to talk about it. But I want you to know that it is something that's very important because it not only tells you that there's something that's in that area, but it also tells you that there is something going on in the liver and gallbladder area as well. So...

I want to make this very simple and straightforward. In the Chinese medicine world, there are three things I want you to look at when we talk about hemorrhoids. Number one is the direct relationship of gallbladder and liver function and imbalance or toxicity related to the hemorrhoids. Number two, the emotions that are trapped within the gallbladder and liver and the hemorrhoid area. And number three, I want to talk about infections that could build up in that area as a result.

So, if you have hemorrhoids, I know it can be a very tough thing if it's happened chronically. Because some people will have hemorrhoids chronically. I've had patients come in the last few weeks, and literally the last three weeks, I've had a lot of people ask me about hemorrhoids. What is going on? Why am I having this subject? And my team and I were talking about a subject, and we said, well, hemorrhoids would be a very good subject to talk about because it's been showing up a lot lately. I think I may have an understanding of why, but number one, when we talk about hemorrhoids,

the hemorrhoid and rectal area. I want you to remember this. The hemorrhoid area and the lining of the cells around the rectal area is made of ectoderm cells. You're like, Dr. Motley, what do you mean? Those ectoderm cells also help form the same type of tissue that are in the gallbladder, the bile ducts that lead right into the gallbladder, and the bile ducts that are throughout the liver. Not the liver itself, but

but the bile ducts in the liver that lead down to the gallbladder. Also, ectoderm tissue is very highly related to the temporal lobes of the brain, which when you look at neurology and brain formation, those areas are closely tied and linked to areas of the brain that are linked to upper digestion, such as stomach, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder. So you have ectoderm cells that are lining the rectal area,

And you have gallbladder cells that are basically within the bile ducts. And let's make this connection. Structurally, the bile ducts are doing what? They're draining toxins or draining bile from the liver into the gallbladder. So the function of the bile ducts is to drain. They not only help you drain the bile, but they help you...

transport toxins in that bile down to the gallbladder so eventually it goes into the colon to the formation of poop so that you excrete it. So the function of the bile ducts in your liver and the gallbladder is partially to drain toxicities and to remove things. What is the function of those areas around the rectal area and around the hemorrhoids? It's for drainage. This is one aspect. Drainage of toxicities from the hemorrhoid area.

So you have two areas that are separated by some distance, but they're doing the same functionality. But in the brain, they are closely tight-knit. They are right near each other. So the brain could have a recording of any type of neurological trauma or problem within the brain, and it's stimulating not only the bile ducts and the gallbladder and liver, but also stimulating the tissue of the hemorrhoid area.

I've had a patient literally call me and she is a young patient at 26 and she was saying, I'm having this problem and I've had it all through my teenage years. Now, why would she have it all through her teenage years? Could it be diet? We're going to talk about in just a few minutes. Yes, it could be diet. It could be the types of food that they're eating at a young age. Totally. And I agree with that. Everybody out there totally agree with it. But when we're talking about the liver and gallbladder and that area of

I want you to know that emotionally and traumatically that there's a conflict within that area known as the identity and territorial anger conflict, which means this, that if you have had anybody or anything impose on your territory, impose on your territory of life, but that almost defines your identity or affects your identity emotionally.

It has been shown through CAT scans to stimulate and create traumatic fields within the areas of the hemorrhoid area, the gallbladder, and the upper digestion. That would mean this. Have you ever felt out of control? Have you ever felt that somebody took something from you, imposed on your territory? Like if you had to go to a new job or somebody took a job away from you, that somebody or something ended a relationship with

unexpectedly. You had to go to a new school when you're a kid because you had to move to a new area. That's a territory. This is my territory. I'm in a home and I have to move to another area and something or somebody had made me move and this is my home and my territory and I was pulled away from the territory and going to a new location and it affects my identity. So some people will feel as though they don't belong. This was taken away.

I have to get out of my comfort zone or out of my territory and I don't know who I am. It can happen with a job, relationship, it can have to do with your school, it can do with your living situation. If that's happened to you when you were younger, like maybe you had to move to a new school when you were a kid or you had to move to a new location and hemorrhoids started to flare or the symptoms of hemorrhoids, itching, burning, rashes, anal discharge, even without huge hemorrhoids, those are signs and symptoms. So if this happened to you, which it happened to this patient of mine,

It stimulated the areas in the brain. And the furthermore thing that I thought was really interesting, with her stimulation of that part of her brain, she had hemorrhoids, but she also had chronic gallbladder issues. Chronic gallbladder issues. The gallbladder channel runs from the corner of the eyes, gallbladder 1, to the TMJ around the ears for ear pain.

hearing issues, temporal headaches, back up to the area right near the hairline, right near these areas like these indentations near the hairline, and down the back of the head, through the shoulders, through the upper pecs, down the sides of the body, through the hips, through the knees, all the way down to the feet. That's the gallbladder meridian. I want you to check that out. Look at the gallbladder meridian. And this patient had TNJ issues chronically since she was a kid. Constipation, another symptom of gallbladder problems.

And she had hemorrhoids. If you've had the pain in the shoulders, the TMJ issues, getting up in the middle of the night from 11 p.m. to 1 or 2 a.m., if you've had any of those issues, those are gallbladder symptoms. In fact, I want you to look at the gallbladder symptoms because they will correlate to usually a conflict, maybe in your life or your parents' life or your grandparents, where a territory or something was taken away and the identity was not known. This patient said that

Her mother and her father were divorced and she had to move many times with her new family, like with her mom and her new family. They had to move in different directions. And so when she had to move from place to place, she always said, I don't feel like I belong. I don't know who I am. So the territory was taken away. She doesn't know who she is. It affects the gallbladder and the liver. It puts her into fight or flight.

Puts her into a constant fight or flight where she has to keep fighting and struggling to try to find who she is, her identity, find her place, and try to find a home, a nesting. And all the while it's injuring the bile ducts in the liver and the gallbladder, not allowing it to drain properly, which will lead to gallstones and gall problems, leading to the constipation and the migraines and the TMJ. But it also causes a backup of all the drainage within the rectal area around the hemorrhoids.

The chi, the electricity, and the blood does not flow out through that area. She had all the classic signs and symptoms. So instead of me going after this whole idea of like we just definitely use herbs to help clean out the hemorrhoids, as in what can we do to drain them? But the first thing with all these is I have to ask her what is her territorial conflict? What is her identity conflict? You and I must identify the identity issues or the conflicts in our hearts like do we feel like we belong?

And look at those type of situations and try to reroute. And I say reroute our brain is saying, OK, do we are we getting to a new area like we're going to a new school? We're getting a new job. We have a new relationship that those are possibilities and we can create or we can get in those situations and start to have a positive mindset saying, yes, yes.

I know I will belong. I know I can make the best of this situation. And those types of thought processes need to be helped out by different types of neurological techniques. I love neuro emotional technique in E.T. I love EFT tapping. I love neurofeedback. Those are three top ones. Any EFT and neurofeedback find practitioners that do that. You can do your own EFT tapping.

identify your territorial conflict, your identity conflict, as in what has been taken away from you. Start using these techniques to clean them out and you'll start rerouting the brain to create new neurons, to see new possibilities so that you feel as though you are settled and you're not lost or you've lost who you are. That's the number one thing I would say for the hemorrhoids, literally. And I know that's very, very like introspective.

But yes, the body's physical representation just from this will show you that there is a problem within the liver, bile ducts, and the gallbladder. But it's highly related to an emotional trauma, a conflict within your emotional realm. So you start to identify that.

I usually get those type of practitioners. Plus, I use homeopathic remedies such as the PTSD and the PTS remedy. I'm not saying that's one of them. I use one of those from Desbio. I could put that into the show notes. Desbio, PTS, or PTSD. And I use different types of homeopathics that have been shown for emotional trauma. Desbio, D-E-S-B-I-O, is a great company that has...

These types of homeopathics that truly help loosen up the emotions to help you recognize those emotions as they're in there and brings them to the surface like a telephone call. When you take the homeopathics, what it's doing is it is like literally taking in a telephone call to wake up the areas that are holding this trauma to bring it to the surface. And as you bring it to the surface, your body will recognize it so it can take it to the prefrontal areas of the brain to process it. That's what you want to do. Some people want to push it away. You don't.

You want to bring it to the surface so you can process it. So look at this bio-emotional homeopathics. Find the one that resonates with you. Read about them. I use that with PTSD. I've seen it work well with motivation, for elevating the mood, to create energy. There's many of them, and I've seen it work great on my patients. Using the emotional techniques, you will start to see a reduction in liver and gallbladder bile duct stagnation and stagnation within the hemorrhoid area.

I can tell you, I can almost guarantee it. The next thing is, when this happens, the areas can swell. So there's a couple thoughts. If it's stagnated, that means that there's not enough fluid motion, which means infections can start to build up in those areas, such as yeast and mold and bacteria. They can build up in this area. Now, as it builds up, yeast, mold, and bacteria, then...

You can have parasites. Now they build up because there's a low fluid motion in the areas I'm just mentioning. So they could build up in the arteries, the actual vessels around the rectal area, around the hemorrhoids. And so you can have a build up these types of infections and they can be stagnant and they can do what? They can make you crave sugar. They can make you have headaches. They can create the symptoms such as the itching because of the movement of the infections within the stagnant area of the vessels around the hemorrhoids.

You could have rashes because of the waste of the infections. You could have odor and smell because of the buildup of bacteria and the parasites. You could even have prolapse where the weakening of the muscles from the toxins such as aldehydes, literally acetaldehyde or types of toxins from the infections can cause the muscles to slow down and to actually reduce their function. So,

You can have buildup and stagnation of the vessels, infections stagnating where they normally be drained out of the hemorrhoid area. But they get stagnant because there's an emotional trauma that is causing those cells in those areas. The hemorrhoid area, the rectal area, and the gallbladder and the bile ducts. It's causing those areas to slow down their function. So another thought is...

That since there's so much swelling in these areas that the body could be allowing the infections in there to help remove excess tissue, remove any old cells that are not needed. So the body may actually allow parasites such as pinworms, such as threadworms to be in these areas like up in the liver or the bile ducts or even in the hemorrhoid area. The anal itching, it could be allowed there.

So that it can remove all the old debris. Your body is actually trying to use the parasites for its own advantage because there's too much buildup of stagnation. So you have two theories, two ways of thinking. Can both be right? Possibly. But from my experience, I think they both can be the case.

So once you release the emotions, you stop sending the signal to the areas such as the hemorrhoid area and the bile ducts and tell them that, hey, my identity, my territorial identity conflicts are being resolved. So you don't have to stagnate and get built up and get injured. So we can release all those infections that's not needed for removal of excess debris. We don't need them anymore. So the body kind of agrees and goes, OK, I'm going to let it go and I'll start releasing all the infections.

Or if it's truly stagnant because of all the toxins that's built up over time, like it's become a log jam, you may have to take more herbals and take more things to help, what, take out binders to clean out the infection because it's just built up and built up. It's like a log jam. It's like a big dam of just toxins and you have to etch away at it now. So you have to change your mindset. But if it's so built up in the hemorrhoid area, you may have to take herbs. Both theories in both ways could be effectively right. That's why I always say I look into golden thread.

Supreme, I have in the show notes, Bodyguard Supreme. And these herbs have been shown to be antimicrobial, break up bile stones, kidney stones, bladder stones, liver stones. It's a sludge remover, the chanca piedra, and the Chinese coptis, the golden thread, has been shown to help heal the gallbladder and the bile ducts.

Now, they have the capsules on there. The dosages is meant for a person who's 150 pounds. So you have to like adjust the weight according to the person's, you know, I mean, the capsule dosage according to the person's weight. But also if, you know, you have to divide everything, you know, up by 150. So if you have a 50 pound person, you can take a third of the dosage. If you have a child, you need to check with your primary care physician to see if these are even options for hemorrhoids. But they have really good tinctures by Hawaiian Farm, P-H-A-R-M.

Hawaiian Farm is a really great organic place along with Supreme Nutrition Products that has liquid versions of these herbs. Hawaiian P-H-A-R-M. So you have the Chinese Coptis. You have the Chanka Piedra or the Bodyguard Supreme.

And they could, either way, either one can be used to start cleansing the bile ducts, the gallbladder, but it will directly start cleansing all the microbes such as parasites, yeast, mold, viruses out of the hemorrhoid area. And I've seen it work really well. Can you take both of them? I've seen it work well together. These are two of my top choices. There's also a couple of really good Chinese herbal combinations. And I don't want to butcher this, but I want you to know in Chinese herbs, they're called

Put that in the notes. It helps with blood circulation and reducing the stagnation in the hemorrhoid area. It's amazing for hemorrhoids, so we'll put that in the show notes. I also say that infrared saunas, maybe three times a week at least...

Infrared saunas and even cold plunge therapies have been shown to reset the autonomic parasympathetic nervous system to get you out of fight or flight. But that red light therapy along with the cold has been shown to help reduce the dampness and the heat within the internal body. And you could see people with hemorrhoids really reduce these symptoms by using infrared saunas, red light therapy, and even cold plunge.

I know it's a big craze out there, but it has been shown to work and I've seen it work on my patients. These are really good avenues to take to help reduce hemorrhoids. The last thing I want to talk to you about is along with the emotional healing, along with the herbs, remember reduce your sugars. The infections that get into this buildup and this stagnation, the log jam, the yeast, mold, parasites, fungus, they will eat sugars.

They will eat starches such as heavy corn starches, potato starches. They will eat any type of carb or sugar. So I'm not saying you stop eating them, but if you have hemorrhoids very badly in that time, you do not want to do heavy carb starches or high sugar fruits or juices. You want to reduce your sugar intake and use an anti-inflammatory type diet, an AID diet, where you reduce your sugars to a minimum to help heal the area, to starve some of the infections that are in the log jam.

Reduce the dampness and the heat by getting out the sugars. Use those diets for a short period of time. Check out these herbals and use the emotional field and the emotional homeopathics and use the herbals in combination. And I'm seeing you will start to unlock the emotions that are in your head and you will start to remember things that have basically invaded on your territory on who you are. It's an emotional healing.

Hemorrhoids directly tell you that you have resentment and frustration built up inside. No fault to you. Not at all. You just have to release that anger and that frustration, that resentment because there's anal retentiveness. So guys, check out these things, these simple ways. I wanted this to be simple and clean.
