And now, here are your anime addicts. Welcome to episode 456, Pick Up Them Sticks, of Hobby Addicts. I'm Mitsugi, I'm here, I'm here and I'm joined. It's just when our triangle of penises combine, we are a sausage party. It's Otaku Cop. What's up everybody? Very happy to be here with my favorite tripod of homeboys.

And it's Mason as well. Mason, what's up? So if it's a triangle, does that mean like we're going from base to base? Like you have to, they're not touching tips. They're making a shape, you know? Well, you certainly can't cross swords.

We could cross sabers, though. It is May the 4th. And may the 4th be with you both, by the way. Oh, no. You're already getting into that joke? Everybody does. I hear it every year. You have to. I don't like Star Wars enough, nor hate myself enough to say such a thing. Unlike you two neophytes, I am old enough to have seen...

a Star Wars movie in the movie theaters when it actually came out, i.e. Return of the Jedi. That's why I love you. So you have to understand, I had sheets on my bed of Luke Skywalker in his snow speeder. I had all the original toys. So yes, Mason, I will bless you.

With a May the 4th, because God damn it, it's a beautiful day. It really is. You're not wrong. So this weekend, the wife and I decided to give Devil May Cry on Netflix a go. And for those of you that are not familiar with the franchise, it is a Capcom title that

that first came out back in 2001 for the PlayStation 1. So only the oldest of the old had the privilege of playing it on release date. Was it a PS2 game? I thought it was PS1. 2001? I'm going to challenge you on that one. I'm going to look it up. 2001? No, I think you're right. I think it is a PlayStation 2.

Yeah, I think it is PlayStation 2. Anyways, so the show is pretty much a semi-adaption. It takes a little bit of liberties with the story like Netflix loves to do. But at the core of it, it is basically a story about Dante, who is the son of a demon warrior who through...

Civil War decided to side with humanity as opposed to demon kind. And so Dante has grown up, raised as a human. He has a human mother. And essentially what this series is about is trying to prevent an invasion from the demon realm into our world. And it is led by a very strong antagonist, Mr. Rabbit.

I'm not going to say too much because it would spoil too much for anybody that's going to be willing to take advantage of this. But what I will say is this. It is clearly an animated project with a Netflix budget. The fight scenes are fantastic. The animation is very, very smooth. And I am a original audio freak. I watch everything subtitled pretty much.

as far as anime is concerned, but because this was, you know, at the surface level, an English-speaking project, even the English voice cast did a pretty good job. There was only like one or two characters where it was just kind of cringey. Like, it just wasn't good enough.

But overall, it is a very visually entertaining. The story is good. They even throw some Easter eggs in there from Capcom, which that I can spoil. Like this guy's driving a car and there's a Mega Man statue in the middle on the driver's console. Nice. And then in Dante's house, he has a couple of arcade games, including an original Street Fighter II Tournament Edition. Yeah.

Capcom properties, of course. Capcom properties. If you have the licenses, you got to use them. Sure. But another thing that was very appealing about the show is the soundtrack because 2000, 2001, those were my early 20s. And that was when...

really started to become mainstream. So bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn, things that people didn't really conventionally listen to really started to come to the forefront. So a good chunk of the soundtrack, including the opening theme, is from 2000, 2001. Like Limp Bizkit's Rollin' is the theme song for this show. No, it is not. And it 100% is. It is.

It is 100. And they also fit in Papa Roach's Last Resort in an episode. So it is a love letter to the franchise when it launched. And even Evanescence made an original song for the soundtrack. So Amy Lee cranking her vocals like she always does. But it's very entertaining. I would give it a...

Four out of five, if you were asking me to score it for now. I just have the last episode to watch because it got a little too late. But I've seen seven of the eight episodes. They're all less than a half hour. It's very easy to consume. It's in English, German, French, and Spanish, I think. So you can definitely check this out. It's a very easy watch. It's a fun watch. And I hope...

They make more. Well, if you like what you heard here and you enjoy our extracurricular talks on video games and anime outside of the normal podcast and you just can't get enough, again, you can get our Hobby Addicts, our After Parties, our Hentai episodes, eight episodes a month just for you if you support the show over at our Patreon page or on our website, aapodcast.com.
