The Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has given details of windfall taxes his government will impose under a new state of emergency being enforced because of the war in neighboring Ukraine. The taxes will be used to create two funds: one to keep utility bills down; the other for defense spending. They’ll have to be paid by companies including banks, retail chains, and energy firms.

Deadly clashes have broken out between gold miners in northern Chad. The violence erupted at an informal gold mining site in the mountainous Kouri Bougoudi district, near the border with Libya, where the army has been fighting rebel groups for more than a decade. Some unconfirmed reports suggest as many as two hundred people have been killed, but the country's communications minister dismissed that figure as fantasy.

American scientists have developed a 3D remote-controlled robot smaller than the size of a flea. Its designers hope the tiny machine will have medical uses one day.

The minuscule robot created by scientists at Northwestern University is shaped like a crab and is built using a special alloy that can take different shapes depending on the temperature.

The diminutive machine can crawl, walk, turn and jump, and is able to move at speeds of up to nearly half its body length per second.

The microbot’s movement is controlled with the help of a laser. The beam lands on different body parts, initiating a process of heating and cooling, which changes the bot shape, pushing it forward.

The team hopes the tech one day be used as the basis for future robotics in the fields of medicine.
