Scientists are tracking asteroid 2024 YR4, discovered in December 2024, which has a 2.3% chance of impacting Earth in 2032. The asteroid, measuring between 40-90 meters across, travels at roughly 38,000 mph. Its potential impact zone stretches from the eastern Pacific to South Asia. Depending on its composition, it could either create an atmospheric airburst similar to the Tunguska event or reach Earth's surface to form an impact crater. NASA's James Webb Space Telescope is analyzing the asteroid until April, when it will become too faint to observe until 2028.
