Scandinavian Christmas traditions vary across countries but share common themes of family, food, and light. In Denmark, Juleaftensdag (Christmas Eve) features roast pork or duck, rice pudding with a hidden almond, and caroling around the tree. In Norway, Julaften, also celebrated on Christmas Eve, includes traditional dishes like lutefisk and pinnekjøtt, with a smaller celebration on December 23. Swedish Julafton is marked by a festive julbord (Christmas buffet), watching the annual Donald Duck TV special, and visits from Santa. The word "Jul" or "Jule," meaning Christmas in Scandinavian languages, originates from the pagan Yule or Jól festival.
