The story of Aladdin and his magic lamp comes from the collection of Middle Eastern and Indian tales known as One Thousand and One Nights. However, the tale was not part of the original text but was added to the collection in the eighteenth century. The story's origin is attributed to a Syrian storyteller, who shared it with a French translator. It's believed that the storyteller, a young man who had traveled from Aleppo to Paris, may have based the story on his own life experiences, especially after witnessing the opulence of Versailles. Although the story is set in China, it's been suggested that the storyteller used "China" to represent an abstract idea of a faraway land. Over time, depictions of Aladdin have shifted away from the original Chinese setting seen in early European illustrations and toward a more generalized Middle Eastern aesthetic. This shift is largely due to adaptations by the American film industry, most notably Disney's animated film. Send us a text in our website https://www.buzzsprout.com/2428312
