然而，事实并非如此。职业发展中真正需要改变的是技能，而非性格。晋升后，我们需要提升的是处理更复杂问题的能力、判断力、视野以及团队管理技能，例如更好地指导他人、提供反馈和处理冲突。
试图扮演他人角色而非做真实的自己，会使领导力下降。虚假的领导力会被他人察觉，从而导致信任缺失和缺乏追随者。真挚、透明、展现真实的自我才能赢得团队的忠诚，尤其是在艰难时期。
我曾指导一位团队成员，他试图模仿我的领导风格，结果适得其反。我告诉他，他不需要成为我，只需要成为最好的自己，并提升相应的技能。当他停止模仿他人，专注于提升技能并展现真实的自我后，团队成员开始更加喜爱他。
优秀的领导力在于提升能力，而非改变身份认同。在晋升过程中，不要隐藏真实的自我，而应提升技能。领导者的成功往往源于其个性，因此无需为了晋升而改变个性。过分压抑自我会影响团队发展和个人幸福感。
坦然接受不完美，才能更好地领导团队。试图伪装自己会消耗大量精力，而这些精力本可以用于提升技能。优秀的领导者是最好的自己，而非他人的复制品。领导者的行为会影响团队成员的行为，如果团队成员表现得不真实，很可能是因为领导者自身也是如此。
经营企业已经很辛苦，不必再强迫自己扮演他人角色。做真实的自己才能激励他人。晋升不需要改变性格，只需要提升技能。试图扮演他人角色会让自己痛苦，并浪费时间和精力。优秀的领导者是展现真实的自我并提升技能的人。
