The internet is not the same anymore and a lot of you might be like well, yeah, no shit Obviously it's gonna change and yeah it did But what I mean is it changed for the worse and it's just not the same as it used to be I mean, don't get me wrong. I still like watching videos on youtube and stuff like that on tiktok I mean, there's some good creators on there. You just gotta find them But every time I would use it, I would just get glued to my phone. So i'm just not using it anymore
But of course, every social media platform has its bad side. YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, etc. And even though I don't like using TikTok, I can still see, you know, some of the good things that came with it. And even though I use YouTube all the time, obviously, I gotta acknowledge the shitty things going on on YouTube.
Now the internet started off very simple. You kind of just started off your day by looking at memes or whatever the hell. Cat videos were taken over, it was a time to be alive. Anybody could go viral, you could literally just film some stupid shit and it'd probably end up going viral. These platforms were just a lot more simpler to understand and maneuver. And of course things are gonna get more complex as more videos get uploaded onto the internet.
It just shows how simple it was. You could upload a raw video without any editing whatsoever, and it could go viral. And this was before running a social media page became like a stable career path. Like, for example, YouTube was kind of just in it because, you know, they were like, oh yeah, you can create your own content. And at this time, this was considered like the biggest...
revelation on the internet like that you could upload your own content and share posts and things like that just with a click of a button and eventually content creators were spawning in people who were just like really known for what content they produce on the platform like for example smosh smosh was a very well-known content creator back in youtube's infancy they were one of the best channels on youtube of all time and as things progressed for them things were going great
They were getting millions of views, millions of subscribers, and they started making money from what they were doing, and they were able to turn it into a full-time job. And now a company reached out, and unfortunately, Smosh essentially just signed their channel away. I don't know for how many years, but they got it back.
And basically what happened was they weren't allowed to say certain things on their videos or create content that they wanted to create. Essentially, they were just censored by this agency. And that's when, you know, the age of censorship on the internet really began. And obviously, you know, there's things that you can't say. Or, well, you shouldn't say for that matter. And you know what I'm talking about.
Anything that's completely out of pocket. But when it comes to censorship, I'm talking about like simple things like swearing. Like if I were to say fuck on this video, I might have a chance of getting demonetized now. Who knows, bro? They could pull some dumb shit and demonetize this months later. I don't know. And a lot of you might be like, well, why did this happen? Why did YouTube just start doing this out of nowhere? Why did they start demonetizing content with like swear words in it or just just for no reason sometimes?
And it was because of the edgy era of the internet, which was from like 2014 to 2016. People started spawning in on the platform that, you know, YouTube now considers harassment and bullying, and it just wouldn't slide nowadays. Like some of the things he said, yeah, were a bit out of pocket, I'm not gonna lie. But growing up though, I did like his videos. And the 2014 through 16 era also introduced another era.
Called the Clout Era. Now this era was where people would start doing the most for clout. And this... And unfortunately, this is where things took a turn for the worse. People were influenced by Boong Gang. Like, this dude would literally just...
Record himself on instagram just go into a store and steal shit and to this day it caused so much shit I'll get into that later people like lil tay. Whoa, vicky lil pump danielle bagrolli They were just fucking spawning in out of nowhere Like the entire point of their existence was to just act dumb or flex or do whatever the hell for clout And even some youtubers jumped on this trend like for example rice gum took part in the flexing
Bro was showing off his entire shoe closet and just name dropping all the amounts he spent. Like, like goddamn bro, there's no need to start flexing on your viewers like that, bro. And of course, people started doing stupid stunts like Boonkang, for example. And it made people think to themselves, hmm, I don't know, maybe there's a way for me to grow and get clout on social media by doing something really stupid. And as the years progressed, people kept spawning in like Kid Boo. Like this dude literally said he had a clone of himself or some shit. I don't know.
And the Island Boys, yeah, they the definition of clout demons, bro. I'll talk about them later. But unfortunately, this rise of like doing stupid shit and just being edgy on the internet, it just caused YouTube to decide to start limiting ads on these videos because the advertisers were not happy with what their content was being advertised on.
Essentially, YouTube was running out of ads, and that's why the adpocalypse hit. And I'm so glad at this point I was never on YouTube, because, well, like, I've had a channel like Leafy where I just sit down and react over gameplay before, but it was less edgy. And if we're keeping it real, I probably would've got demonetized on, like, every video, so I'm glad I wasn't on the platform at this point.
And as the years progressed, these content creators were getting terminated. And now, YouTube was supposed to be a place, originally, where you could post content that you want to post. And these creators were terminated and had videos taken down for, basically, videos that were old and fit with the terms of service at the time.
And they just decided to start sniping old videos for some reason. And along with terminating channels and shit like that, they were age-restricting content, demonetizing content, and it just became a known issue on YouTube. And what sucks is the only way you can get it back is you have to beg YouTube support on Twitter. I got a strike, like, a few years ago for talking about... I can't say the name of the challenge. I'll just call it the Lick Challenge, yeah. I got a strike for talking about that, and...
I literally had to fucking get on my hands and knees and be- Oh, whoa. All right, bro. Why did I say it like that? But yeah, you know what I mean. I had to beg for them to fucking fix it. And it was just such bullshit. I couldn't post for a week. Like, it was so fucking stupid. And the worst part is, hey, man, I can barely do shit to complain because...
That's what I signed up for when I made a channel. They could literally kick my ass off the platform if they really wanted to. They could just give me the boot and it'd be all over. I'd be homeless just posted up in a box right now. I think that's what would be going on. And at this point in like 2017, 2016, a lot of messenger platforms were introduced. And now this platform Snapchat has been around for a while, but I started using it at this point in time.
And the new messenger platform, Kik, just recently became popular. I would use these platforms every day to communicate with people from my school and shit like that. And yeah, Kik is fucking garbage. I don't know why I ever use that. But what I didn't realize is the amount of creeps on these fucking platforms is just ridiculous. Now, at the time, I was in seventh grade.
grade and I was not aware of this. And if I was, I would have immediately stopped using the app. And I mean, just to be safe in general, I never added anybody that I didn't know. And there were people who did add randoms on these platforms and a lot of terrible things went down on this platform. And some people somehow still use it to this day. I mean, I've never seen a soul ever use kick to this day, but
I hear it still has a lot of active users. And now remember earlier when I was talking about the whole clout era, right? That, that just continued to spiral out of control when TikTok was introduced in 2019 or 18. I don't really know when. Now TikTok was basically just the version of Vine with longer videos.
And now vine had some great videos. I'm not gonna lie like they were six seconds long But I somehow would keep replaying them and watch vine compilations on youtube Like I was just glued to my phone screen when I did use vine, even though I didn't really use it that much But anyways, tiktok came out and longer videos were introduced, of course So that caused people to come up with a lot of more creative ideas as well Now, although tiktok is a chinese app and there's a lot of heat behind it. Like I mean it's been going on for
quite some time now. The plus of TikTok is, you know, people were able to get creative and really show off their talents and even make careers out of it. And it was cool to witness, but I don't want to use TikTok because I feel like if I just scroll infinitely, I'll lose track of time.
And after TikTok got really popular, reached like the peak of its users, TikTok trends began to surface. And you can see where I'm going with this. And people would use these trends to try and grow their account. And now before, there were trends that were relatively harmless, like the Ice Bucket Challenge and the Mannequin Challenge. Like, these trends, everybody did and everyone loved them. There were trends such as the Benadryl Challenge, the Lick Challenge, the...
NyQuil chicken like what the hell is and there were even videos of Pranks quote-unquote that were just not funny like there's a difference between Gideon falling asleep at a WMBA game and slapping a kid in the face and telling him to dress up as spider-man and come to a park like that is so fucked up bro like like what the
What the hell is wrong with you? Like, I don't understand. Like, I'd love to see Gideon sleep at a WNBA game. That's fucking hilarious. But I mean, what people were doing like now on TikTok, like that, for example, it's just so fucked up, bro. People really be doing anything for clout, bro. They like leeches out here. And now a couple of years ago, it became a trend to have an OnlyFans. And basically a lot of people, as soon as they turned 18, they were like, you know what?
Let me sell my soul away and sign up for OnlyFans. Now, I'm not gonna hate you if you do OnlyFans, whatever. Do your thing, get to the bag. I don't wanna knock your hustle, right? But you be putting everything out there for people to see. I would never date somebody that does OnlyFans. That's crazy. Once you do that, bro, there's no going back. You made a permanent decision right there.
Like they really decided to be highway material. That is crazy. Like there's other ways you can make money and be an influencer. Like hell, even girls that are just good looking make a lot of money. Like you don't have to sell your body. But unfortunately, a lot of people feel like they need to in order to make good money. And that's just not the case, bro. And of course, trends are just going to continue to just spawn in themselves. And...
Do you guys want to hear the latest and greatest trend? Are you ready for this? Because I know you are. This is a really good trend. Trust me. NPC TikTokers. Bro, what the hell is this? They literally just be sitting there. Like, what are they even doing? Like, I don't know. Like, they be getting paid like $4.
$4,000 a live stream to say like ice cream. So good. It's spicy or whatever the hell and gang gang like jesus christ I might have to drop this whole youtube thing, man That's it, man. I'm becoming an mpc live streamer gang gang gang gang ice cream. So good. Oh, yeah. Yeah Woohoo Yeah, that was fucking awful. I'm never doing that. But again, you know, i'm not gonna knock the hustle That's fucking great that you can make 4k from doing that but who is watching this like I
Like, how? Like, how do you sit there and watch that? I don't understand. Like, who's donating to this? Like, baby girl, can I get one more gang gang? Like, what? The internet went from just really simple and basic chat rooms in the 90s to NPC TikTok live streamers. That's what we have today. Watch some videos on the end screen. I'll catch y'all later. Peace.
