Hello and welcome to another episode of ChatGPT. I'm your host Adam Finney and today we're going to be exploring what I think is a pretty fascinating topic and that is the art and science of prompting OpenAI's language models. If you've ever wondered how to get the best results from AI, specifically OpenAI's new model, the O1 model, hopefully some of these tips will help.

So prompting an AI effectively can be a total game changer, like whether using it for business, creative writing, or just exploring what it can do. OpenAI's language models are incredibly powerful, but the way that you frame your questions and prompts can significantly change the quality of the responses you get. So I just kind of wanted to break down some of the key strategies that I use to optimize my results and to help you get the most out of the AI tools.

So first up, I want to talk about clarity. So a clear and specific prompt is crucial. So the more precise you are, the better the AI can understand and generate the response that you're looking for. So for example, instead of asking, tell me about AI, you could ask, explain the difference between supervised and unsupervised learning and AI. This specificity helps the model focus on exactly what you need.

Then I want to talk about context. So providing context in your prompt can also dramatically improve the relevance of the AI's response. So if you're asking for advice

On writing like a blog post, for example, including details like the topic of the blog, the target audience, and any particular style or tone that you're aiming for will totally help. It helps the AI tailor its response to your specific needs. So it'll listen to every little thing you say and give you the most specific prompt will give you more specific and relevant answers, basically.

And then also giving examples helps it a bunch. So including examples in your prompts can guide the AI towards the kind of output you're expecting. So if you want a certain format or style, you can give an example of what you're looking for. So for instance, if you need a summary of a complex topic, you might start by providing a brief example of the summary for a different topic.

just to give it kind of an idea of what you're looking for. Um, internal prompting is another powerful technique. So sometimes you might not get the perfect response on the first try and that's okay. That happens sometimes you just have to kind of reword yourself a little bit. So using followup prompts to refine the output, um,

For example, if the initial response is too broad, you could always ask yourself, can you provide more details on X or can you elaborate on Y? Just to like really ask it questions. Like you could just act like you're really talking to a person. You don't have to pretend like you're just Googling something. You can actually have more specific questions. So you can also get kind of creative with it, which I think is fun. So OpenAI's models can generate highly creative and diverse content. So to tap into this,

I would say just don't be afraid to experiment, I mean, with open-ended prompts. So, for example, instead of asking just like a straightforward answer, you might ask, imagine a future where AI can predict human emotions or something like that. Like, how might this change the way we interact with technology? And it'll...

it'll talk to you. It's a bit scary a little bit, but I think it's cool. So another, another key point is giving it feedback. So providing feedback to the AI about what works and what doesn't can help in refining your prompts and improving the quality of responses over time. So if a response is like off the mark a little bit, you can adjust your prompts accordingly and give constructive feedback. Um, that helps it learn. So lastly, remember, it helps to remember that contextual understanding is crucial for these models. Uh,

Like OpenAI's new O1 model, it understands and generates text based on patterns and context provided by the prompt. So if you're trying to engage in like a multi-turn conversation or asking complex questions, try to maintain consistency in the context to help the model keep track of the conversation. So in summary, crafting effective prompts involves clarity, providing context, using examples, giving it some refinement, encouraging creativity, and giving it feedback.

like mastering these little techniques can definitely make your interactions with open AI models specifically like their new 01 model a lot more productive and insightful. So yeah, I think that's all I have for today. So thank you guys for watching. I hope you have a great rest of your day.
