Shownotes Transcript

Bob Komsic is joined by Bill VanGorder, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Policy Officer of CARP, Anthony Quinn, Chief Community Officer of CARP and Lorne Bozinoff, President and CEO of Forum Research.

Today: It's Victoria Day so we'll kick things off by asking everyone on the panel how their long weekend is going and what plans they've got. Then, we pivot to the mayoral election in Toronto. What do you think is the key election issue for this race? Crime, affordability, congestion? Anthony previews the CARP Mayoral Candidates Fair that will be taking place at the Zoomerplex during this year's Doors Open Toronto. Meanwhile, we haven't yet had a chance to discuss the future of Peel Region that will see the divorce of Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon and will see them become independent municipalities by 2025.

SAFE BOATING AWARENESS WEEK: A PSA

Bob Komsic is now joined by Barbara Byers, Spokesperson for the Canadian Safe Boating Council.

This long weekend, some of us are up at the cottage or at least in cottage country with fun activities on the itinerary including boating. If you plan to set sail, you'll want to hear what Barbara has to say when it comes to doing so safely especially since there will likely be more boating traffic. She gives us the dos, the dont's and talks about why its such a favourite past time during this time of year.

WHY WE CELEBRATE VICTORIA DAY

Bob Komsic is now joined by Dr. Ronald Stagg, Professor of History at Toronto Metropolitan University.

It's Victoria Day. But what's the actual history behind it and why do we celebrate? Dr. Stagg weighs in on the federal public holiday and what makes it so Canadian.
