A judge has ordered the Trump administration to transfer two transgender inmates back to women's prisons. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth in Washington, D.C., says the Federal Bureau of Prisons must, quote, immediately return two transgender women inmates back to federal women's prisons after they had been sent to men's prisons following an executive order by President Trump.
The order, signed in January on the first day of his second term, calls for housing transgender women in men's prisons and for halting gender-affirming care. The ruling issued by Lamberth, a Reagan appointee, says that in addition to the transfer, the Bureau of Prisons must continue to provide the two women who filed suit hormone therapy for treatment of gender dysphoria.
