The president talks tariffs. I'm Ted Lindner, Fox News. President Trump addressing economic impacts of his tariffs in an interview on Sunday morning. Fox's Grinnell Scott with more. President Trump on NBC's Meet the Press said it's unlikely he would lift tariffs on China, but he said easing them could be on the table. At some point, I'm going to lower them because otherwise you could never do business with them.
And they want to do business very much. But in response to small businesses who have said the tariffs and higher costs hurt them, the president said they will make money. Remember, there are no tariffs if you build your product here. It's very easy. Late last month, a vote driven by Senate Democrats to end Trump tariffs failed, mainly due to absences among the membership.
Grinnell Scott, Fox News. Yemen's Houthi rebels to blame for an attack on Israel this weekend. Fox's Madeline Rivera has more. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says they will respond to the Houthi attack near Ben Gurion Airport at a time and place of their choosing. Sirens sent people at Ben Gurion this morning scrambling for cover. There were several attempts to intercept the missile, but Israel's Arrow and the United States' THAAD missile defense systems were not able to stop it.
The impact set off a plume of smoke and left a crater on the ground. Israeli officials say several people were hurt, though no one was killed. This marks a major security breach for Israel. The Houthis have been ramping up their attacks after the ceasefire in Gaza ended in March.
Israel has not responded militarily since the U.S. began its campaign of strikes against the Houthis March 15th. Some international flights to Israel have been suspended as a result of the attack. And police in Brazil say they thwarted a bomb attack on Lady Gaga's concert in Rio de Janeiro. A group had planned to detonate Molotov cocktails and improvised devices on Copacabana Beach, where Gaga performed for two million people. The plan foiled in time. Two people have been arrested. The cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church are preparing to gather at the Vatican to elect the next pope. Fox's Lauren Greens in Rome with more. Workers on Friday installed the most famous chimney in the world atop the Sistine Chapel. The white smoke from this stack signals to the world, Habemus Papum, we have a pope. Since Pope Francis' funeral, cardinals remained at the Vatican discussing a host of issues concerning the Roman Catholic Church. In his 12-year papacy, Francis convened only two meetings in Rome with all the cardinals.
So now 133 of them, those under the age of 80, who are tasked with choosing his successor, must spend these days before the conclave making up for lost time.
The Cardinals will convene on May 7th to begin the selection process. President Trump flown the idea of reopening one of the most notorious prisons in U.S. history, Alcatraz, to hold the country's most ruthless and violent criminals. The president telling reporters on the South Lawn of the White House Sunday the housing prisoners at Alcatraz sends a message. It's long been a symbol, Alcatraz, of...
Whatever it is. It's a sad symbol, but it's a symbol of law and order. And here it's got quite a history, frankly. Alcatraz closed in 1963 after its island's operations proved far more costly than mainland-based prisons, but not before housing some infamous inmates like gangsters James Whitey Bulger and Al Capone, as well as George Machine Gun Kelly, now serves as a popular San Francisco tourist attraction.
And the trial of Sean P. Diddy Combs set to begin in a New York courtroom on Monday. It comes eight months after the hip-hop mogul's arrest on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. His lawyers contend that no crimes occurred because any sexual activity occurred between consenting adults. Sean Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges. I'm Ted Lindner, and this is Fox News. Creating your own business is everything. Getting it registered and compliant, not so much.
