Saying goodbye to 2024 Gianna Jalosi, Fox News. It's a busy day in New York City and Fox's Alexis McAdams is in Times Square with a preview of all of tonight's New Year's Eve festivities. There's going to be more than a million people in Times Square for this celebration. There have been lines since early this morning. This comes as NYPD keeps a close eye on what's happening.

across the country and also around the world, including that Christmas market attack out in Germany that updated their security plan. So this New Year's Eve, police will be in the crowds, including those undercover units. Although there are no credible threats, security is a top priority like every single year in the past. Bomb sniffing dogs, drone units, those will be spotted here as well. And state agencies will monitor the airports, the bridges and the tunnels and the mass transit system.

Now, while the lights will shine in the city that never sleeps, it's a different story for New Year celebrations in Puerto Rico. A blackout hit nearly all of the island this morning. More than 1.3 million power clients are in the dark. Officials say it could take up to two days to restore power.

Tributes to former President Jimmy Carter pouring in from his small hometown of Plains, Georgia and all around the world. Fox's Jonathan Seri reports from Carter's hometown. Well-wishers have started to arrive in Plains, the small Georgia town where former President Jimmy Carter was born and held close to its rural and religious way of life. Mr. Carter's death has touched people on both sides of the aisle. Republican Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter, no relation, praises the former president's lifetime of service beyond the White House. I

I think history will treat him well. On social media, President-elect Trump writes about Mr. Carter, while I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our country and all it stands for. President Biden has designated January 9, 2025, as a national day of mourning. And all U.S. flags will be flown at half-staff for 30 days. America's listening to Fox News.

New year, new battle for House Speaker. There's going to be a vote for the job on Friday. But now current House Speaker Mike Johnson is getting the backing of President-elect Donald Trump. He told Fox. I'm really humbled and honored to have President Trump's endorsement for Speaker again. He and I work so well together, so closely together, and we have a lot of big things to do.

Fox's Madeline Rivera. After days of silence, President-elect Trump finally weighed in on the speaker's vote. He's backing how Speaker Mike Johnson's saying in a post on Truth Social. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hardworking, religious man. He will do the right thing and we will continue to win. Mike has my complete and total endorsement. Make America great again. Elon Musk, who led the effort to sink a bipartisan deal that Johnson had hammered out to keep the government open earlier this month, also threw his support behind Johnson.

Regardless of his and Trump's backing, Johnson can still have a tough road ahead because at the end of the day, on Friday, he can only afford one Republican defection if all 434 House members vote. That's Fox's Madeline Rivera. A report circulating that President Biden allegedly regrets dropping out of the 2024 presidential election, believing he could have defeated now President-elect Donald Trump. Back in October, President Biden made the following quip to Fox News. Do you want to reconsider dropping out of the race? No.

I'm back in. It turns out there could have been more behind that joke. The Washington Post reports Biden and some of his aides still believe he should have stayed in the race and have told people in recent days that he could have defeated Trump. The Wall Street Journal editorial board responded, Mr. Biden's biggest regret seems to be that he dropped out of the race under unfair Democratic pressure. Mr. Biden's regret should be how he governed and that he didn't drop out a year earlier.

And that's Fox's Lucas Tomlinson. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department says it's been hacked in a major breach by Chinese state-sponsored actors. Access was reportedly gained to Treasury workstations and unclassified documents through a security key. I'm Gianna DeLossi. This is Fox News.
