He was very optimistic and he talks about the new investments from Saudi Arabia to the tune of $600 billion being invested in the United States. That includes the largest arms sale in history, some $142 billion that will be spread out among over a dozen American companies. Trump and the Crown Prince met with hundreds of business leaders.
all the leaders from the Fortune 500, many of them at least. In his speech, Trump spoke about his optimism for the region, which he said had been mishandled by previous administrations. Tough medicine for big pharma with a pricing plan that ties the U.S. prescription drug cost to the lowest global prices. Fox's Alexandria Hoff has more. The president said that this cost reduction would be almost immediate. Of course, we have not seen that yet, but we do know over the next 30 days, health agency heads will be meeting with pharmaceutical companies to hammer out that price matching. Pharmaceutical and drug companies have said that research and development costs were
what they are, and for no reason whatsoever, they had to be born by America alone. Here's what's going to be really interesting. The president attempted similar action during his first term, and it was blocked by the courts. But since then, Medicare was given the authority to negotiate drug prices. That takes away a key legal barrier. The challenges are still likely. That limited authority to give Medicare the right to negotiate prescription drug prices was given by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which Republicans opposed.
A new gray market for pharmaceuticals. Fox's Teresa Crowley explains that. Death row inmates in Tennessee are calling on Governor Bill Lee for a reprieve just days before the first execution since 2020. Lawyers charged the corrections department is trying to conceal details about the source of its lethal injection drugs through the gray market. The state is trying to block disclosure of where its pentobarbital comes from because no commercial pharma maker will sell it to states for executions. They don't want to get sued.
The filing claims gray market channels are inherently risky, citing a pharma maker's warning that they're more likely to be counterfeit, stolen, contaminated, or otherwise harmful, even if they are intended to cause death, which would violate protections against cruel and unusual punishment.
