Emissions rules blocked. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. President Trump expected to eliminate some of the country's strictest clean air rules for vehicles. President Trump will sign three congressional resolutions nixing California's transition to electric vehicle sales. The resolution revokes waivers from the EPA granted during the Biden administration, allowing California to set stricter rules than the national standard.
The state intends to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. California has long been allowed to set stricter air pollution standards, and environmental groups say the waivers are needed to combat smog levels higher than elsewhere in the country. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says sending in the National Guard has raised tensions and has called for the raids to end. President Trump has also asked about ongoing trade negotiations, saying he would be willing to extend a July 8th deadline for completing trade talks with countries before higher U.S. tariffs take effect. But he said he doesn't believe that that will be necessary.
Some decisions have been made by the jury regarding the fate of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, but it still must decide another charge. While the judge has not accepted the decisions, his final two are known. One finds Weinstein guilty of forcing an accuser into a criminal sex act. The jury says Weinstein is not guilty of a second similar charge. Fox's Grinnell Scott, a rape charge against Weinstein still must be decided. The jury returns to deliberate tomorrow. President Trump's pick to lead the nation's aviation regulators appeared before a Senate committee. The potential confirmation of former Republic Airways Chief Brian Bedford to lead the Federal Aviation Administration comes as the agency is under fire related to the deadly January collision above Reagan National Airport in D.C. Texas Senator Ted Cruz chairing the Senate Commerce Committee. Bedford agrees the FAA needs revamping. More than 90 percent of the
percent of the FAA's nearly six billion annual budget for modernization is actually consumed with the maintenance and sustainability of the old system. Ranking Democrat Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington state is not keen on cutting FAA funds. We don't need someone changing the standards just because they think they can lower costs. All 12 members of the board overseeing the prestigious Fulbright scholarships have resigned in protest of what they call the Trump administration's meddling with the selection of award recipients. In a statement, the board said the administration usurped the board's authority by denying awards to a substantial number of people who already have been chosen.
Scientists are warning that conditions in the U.S. could lead to a brain drain. Some scientists in the U.S. are warning that rival nations are eager to pick up top U.S. researchers, scientists and academics as they face funding cuts and ramped up immigration pressure. Nobel Prize winner Dr. Artem Petapoutian, whose research funding had been frozen, telling the New York Times China briskly offered to move his lab to any
city and any university he wanted with guaranteed funding for the next 20 years. He declined, but others may not. The journal Nature reporting the number of graduate students applying for jobs abroad has spiked, while applications from China and Europe for U.S. positions have dropped sharply.
