supporting_evidences Lisa Lucera: 'President Trump says the administration will obviously appeal a district court ruling that called his executive order ending birthright citizenship blatantly unconstitutional.' The legal fight has just begun. I'm Lisa Lucera, Fox News. President Trump vowing action after a federal judge in Washington state paused his executive order blocking birthright citizenship. President Trump says the administration will obviously appeal a district court ruling that called his executive order ending birthright citizenship blatantly unconstitutional. They put it before a certain judge in Seattle, I guess, right? And, uh...

There's no surprises with that, Judge. Judge John Kuhnauer, appointed by President Ronald Reagan, issued that decision. The lawsuit was filed by Washington State's Attorney General. Several other states and organizations have also sued to stop the order. Fox's Jared Halpern at the White House. A vote in the Senate expected tomorrow on the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary to Republicans Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine broke ranks voting against moving ahead with the nomination.

President Trump's pick to lead the CIA has been sworn in after his Senate confirmation today. John Ratcliffe is now the second cabinet nominee confirmed after about half of Senate Democrats supported his nomination. Ratcliffe will lead the CIA after serving as the director of national intelligence in the first Trump administration. Democrats and Republicans

praised Ratcliffe's experience. He also served as a member of Congress from Texas. Fox's Ryan Schmelz. California Governor Gavin Newsom says he welcomes President Trump with open arms as the president is set to tour areas of the state ravaged by wildfires tomorrow. I hope he comes with the spirit of

cooperation and collaboration. That's the spirit to which we welcome it. I've said this many times, open hand, not a closed fist. President Trump has suggested that any federal wildfire relief come with conditions, but Republican lawmakers from California have pushed back on that. The state will spend $2.5 billion to help the area recover from the fires. America is listening to Fox News.

President Trump has pardoned pro-life activists who were convicted of blocking access to a Washington clinic in 2020. Lauren Handy was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for leading the blockade and for directing others to link themselves together with locks and chains to block the clinic's doors.

There's evidence a pill commonly used as an emergency contraception could potentially be used for abortions. A new study shows a drug commonly used as an emergency contraceptive could be repurposed for abortions. Researchers found if they doubled the active ingredient in the morning-after pill known as Ella and combined it with the drug misoprostol, the results induced abortions in 97% of participants.

The results were about as effective as a combination of mifepristone and misoprostol. The study was published in the journal Negem Evidence. The increased-strength Ellipil could be used as an alternative abortion pill as pro-life activists work to limit access to mifepristone in several states.

Tom Graham, Fox News. There is a slight increase in the number of people signing up for unemployment benefits earlier this month. More people signed up for unemployment last week. The number of new claims for benefits increased by 6,000 to 223,000. It's a larger number than expected. Continuing claims, those still receiving benefits...

also rose to 1.89 million. Monday was the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and that may have impacted filings. The Federal Reserve meets January 28th and 29th and has been watching the job market closely. Many economists are not expecting an interest rate cut this month.

Jenny Kosilda, Fox News. The average rate on a 30-year mortgage in the U.S. eased this week to just below 7%. It's the first decline after climbing five weeks in a row. Wall Street had outgained 408. The Nasdaq added 44. I'm Lisa LaSara. This is Fox News. Okay, business leaders, are you playing defense or are you on the offense? Are you just, excuse me. Hey, I'm trying to talk business here.
