The Food and Drug Administration delaying its decision on the definition of what foods can be called healthy. How can some food products be labeled healthy while others can't? It all depends on the nutrient content as defined by the FDA, and that definition was due to be updated on Tuesday. However, the Department of Health and Human Services says a final rule on that definition is now being delayed for more than two months, April 28th, thanks to a freeze on new rule proposals by President Trump.
The final rule clarifies when the term healthy can be used by food manufacturers and gives parameters for using it. The compliance date is not until 2028. The delay comes as the Trump administration overhauls federal agencies with recent layoffs at the FDA and the National Institutes of Health.
