But just a few short months later, the Mavericks have a new franchise player. Dallas selected Cooper Flagg with the first pick of the NBA draft, making him the fifth Duke player since 1999 to be taken first overall overall.
Flagg took college basketball by storm in his freshman season, leading Duke in most statistical categories on the way to the Final Four. With the second pick of the draft, the Spurs took Dylan Harper out of Rutgers, while the 76ers selected Vijay Edgecombe third overall. Ace Bailey, who drew headlines for not working out with any teams prior to the draft, went to the Jazz at No. 5.

Staying in baseball, Jacob DeGrom held the Orioles hitless until the eighth before Colton Couser led off the inning with a single as the Rangers beat Baltimore 7-0. The 37-year-old retired the first 18 batters he faced before walking Jackson Holliday in the seventh inning. DeGrom, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, is now 8-2 after appearing in just nine games over the last two seasons.
And Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. will compete in the Home Run Derby in Atlanta at Truist Park on July 14th. Acuna, the 2023 NL MVP, returned to the field on May 23rd after suffering a torn left ACL last season and homered on the first pitch he saw.
