Fox Weather. I'm Fox Weather meteorologist Kendall Smith, and here's the latest from America's Weather Center. A strong cold front is slicing through the eastern U.S. today, ushering in a sharp drop in temperatures and bringing snow to parts of the eastern Great Lakes, interior northeast, and northern New England. Most of the snow will be light, but lake enhancement off Lake Ontario will intensify snowfall over the Tug Hill Plateau, where more than six inches could accumulate.
Snow also ramps up this afternoon across northern Maine, with totals reaching 4 to 8 inches, with locally higher totals possible by late tonight. Expect slippery roads and difficult travel, especially during the evening commute. Behind the front, much colder air moves in. Highs today will run 10 to 30 degrees below normal for much of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley. And even the Southeast feels the chill, with temperatures a good 5 to 15 degrees below average. Frost and freeze concerns are in play for tonight for areas where the growing season has already begun.
