Major Tornado Outbreak Expected in the Mid-South

Fox weather. I'm Fox weather meteorologist Kendall Smith and here's the latest from America's Weather Center. A powerful spring storm system is creating dangerous weather conditions across the country today. In the mid south, a major tornado outbreak is expected with multiple strong tornadoes possible. Severe storms will also bring damaging winds, large hail and the risk of life threatening weather from the lower Ohio Valley down to the southern plains.

At the same time, this storm is unleashing relentless heavy rain, sparking a major flash flood threat from the Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee Valley. Some areas could see more than six inches of rain just today, with flooding expected to worsen as additional storms move in through the rest of the week. In the north, winter just won't let go. A late-season winter storm continues to dump heavy snow across the northern plains and upper Midwest, with travel conditions becoming hazardous. Strong winds will also contribute to blowing snow and reduce visibility.
