More record highs on Wall Street today, with the S&P adding a tenth of a percent and the Nasdaq three-tenths percent, while the Dow stayed basically flat. Markets are anticipating a busy economic week, with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell set to testify before Congress Tuesday and Wednesday, and the Consumer Price Index releasing Thursday. Further evidence of cooling inflation would raise the odds of the central bank cutting interest rates this year.
Shares in glassmaker Corning surged in trading thanks to the AI boom. The company, which makes glass screens for TVs and mobile devices as well as fiber optics, raised its outlook for sales of products used in networks that power generative artificial intelligence. And the Transportation Security Administration reported it screened 3 million passengers at airports Sunday after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the most ever in a single day.
