McElroy and Kubelik in the morning starts now. All right, welcome in. McElroy and Kubelik in the morning. We are live Monday, August 5th right here on JOX 94.5. For the next three hours, lots to get to. Some college football news from over the weekend impacting some SEC rosters. We will discuss that with you. To update some of that news, Paul Feinbaum with us always in the 7 o'clock hour on Mondays.
Zach Albaverde is going to join us. He covers the Florida Gators. Some interesting news there. Austin Price covers Tennessee. Interesting news there. 815, 845, they'll be with us. Damon West, motivational speaker, going to be with us at 9. He'll try to lift us all up for the week. Only a couple more weeks without college football, and he'll try to make us positive as we move in. Greg McElroy, how are you doing this morning? Good place, buddy. Good place. Up in Boston. Boston, Massachusetts. Had an event last night.
It was pretty cool to see this part of the world. I'm not kidding when I say this. Six or seven people came up to me and said, hey, we listen to your show every day. I'm a diehard South Carolina Gamecock fan. It's the only college football content I can get is on jocks.
in my drive to work. I'm like, really? He goes, yeah. I'm telling you, I've told all my buddies about it. You're big at Boston Golf Club. Like every one of these guys came up. It's like, oh, dude, we love your show. You and Cube do a great job. Like I went to North Carolina or I went to Tennessee. Like it was it was pretty funny that I opening last night to see that we have some reach in the Boston area. Was this a college football event?
No, but it's Sean McDonough's Celebrity Annual Golf Tournament. So, yes. How'd you have it play? It's today. So I had to come up yesterday, which...
traveling to Boston this time of year, I didn't realize it was going to be as much of a challenge as it was. But like Ray Bork and Eric Crouch will be in attendance today, Heisman Trophy winner. But it's kind of a random collection of people and not a ton of college football related people.
I guess people that cover it. I mean, Laura Rutledge and I are about the only two. So it's been kind of a, it's been kind of unique to see just how many people love college football in this part of the country and how many have woken up to it in the last few years. I,
I don't know if the playoffs helped with that, but they're like, yeah, we just started watching college football probably five, six years ago, and man, I can't get enough of it. I'm like, well, welcome to the jungle, pal. So just spreading the gospel that is college football, feeling good about it. All right, there you go. So golf tournament today, not tomorrow, correct? Correct.
Yes, today, not tomorrow. So we'll find out later this week how you shot at McDonough's golf tournament. All right, so Monday, August 5th, quickly before we move on to some college football notes. GMAC, best thing happened to you this weekend? Just best part of your weekend. Best part of my weekend? Well, my wife and I had a little getaway. May came.
with some good friends of ours. So just, I think, having a little time to ourselves before the chaos gets going here in, gosh, what, two or three weeks. So that was the best opportunity for me, probably having a nice meal alongside my beautiful bride and being able to do that for, we don't get to do that very often, so being able to do it in some peace and quiet was definitely the highlight. John, best part of your weekend?
would probably be the sense of accomplishment of...
We had someone kind of redo our guest bedroom and the library, and they did most of it, us finishing the rest of it and putting everything back. So that way, starting today, even though things have been chaos in the house, like there, it feels back to normal, some sense of normalcy. Okay. Damian, best thing happened to you this weekend? We had a family reunion over the weekend down in Maplesville, and it was fun seeing some of the relatives I hadn't seen in a long time. And it's also kind of cool that
You realize how old you get when you start to see younger relatives and they speak of you in folklore of just like – because I had a couple cousins that played for me. Because you are that big of a deal. No, man. It's just we started talking ball. They got a little weighed up. I just remember them as little kids, and now they're kind of a little yoked up. Bigger than you. All right, young blood. It's good to see you, man. How's life treating you? We started talking ball a little bit. And, of course, like, you know.
I had to tell them, hey, man, my stiff arm was massive. Put them in place. Put them in their place. I had to. But it was fun, man. It was a good time seeing everybody. So the Mitchell family reunion was a success. How about you, Cole? I haven't been to a family reunion. I mean, I was probably like six, seven. Went to one in Pittsburgh. And I think that's the last one that either side of my family has had. It's been a long time. Best part of the weekend, we went to the Southern Museum of Flight Friday afternoon. I didn't even know I was there.
It's actually pretty cool. Yeah. Where is that? Is that over by the airport? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Where they have those like old wrecked planes on the deal, that's it, right? Right there to the left? It's not that close to the airport. No, you got to get through a little bit of a neighborhood. Yeah. Be a little careful there. They turn right and then you pass and there's like some old planes that are like, they don't run anymore. They're just sitting there on the grass right there to the left. Is that it? Yes. Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. I know why you've gone past there. Yeah. Okay.
That's not why. Sometimes it's easier where I live to go in from the east part of the airport. That's hilarious, though. And if we were to go in that... You did go right past that hangar, by the way. No, not the hangar discussed. But when you come in from the east, because for whatever reason you don't want to go through downtown, sometimes it's easier to go in from the east from where I live.
So that's hilarious. And if we were to go to that terminal, we would have gone to the west side on the north side. We'd go the other direction. So haters. You'll appreciate this. Maybe the other best part of my weekend, we did some random shopping Saturday morning. I just had to hit a bunch of...
Trying to find some shoes for middle child, the ones that he ordered, the John Morant's, and they didn't like the way they feel. They don't really fit well. They hurt his heel somehow. So we're trying to find new kicks for him. They ended up getting some J's, so he's pumped about that. Obviously, we got to. Let's ride. We went to a sporting goods store and didn't really know that they had jerseys, and he ended up getting an Otani jersey for back to school. And, Greg, how excited he was to get that. What?
and literally wanted to hit baseball and throw baseball and be Otani the rest of the weekend. It was hilarious. Really? Just how pumped he was about it. The best part was he negotiated a Steph Curry jersey out of me about a week and a half ago when we were looking for new shoes after the other ones came in. And he had saved some money that he was going to use somewhere else that we were going next, and he's begging for the Steph Curry jersey. And I'm like, listen –
You got $40 that you were going to go spend here that you've saved. You give me the $40. We're not getting anything at the next place we go. You get the Steph Curry jersey. That's the final offer. There's no other deal. There's no other – because he'll go back and forth with you for an hour. And I just – he had to think hard. He thought hard about it. He literally sat over by the adult shoes on the bench. He's holding the jersey, like staring at it. He's just sitting there thinking. He's like – I can see his head just going. He's like, I'm not going to get – he's the guy that got his hands on both sides going like, I'm not getting that, but I do get this.
So finally he walks back over and he hands me a jersey. He goes, I'll take the jersey, Dad. And I said, all right. He's like, you'll have that. So we walk out of the sporting store yesterday and he goes, Dad, Dad, love this jersey. He goes, now, now, all I need, all I need, Aaron Judge, Ronald Cooney Jr., LeBron James, John Moran, and I'm good. That's it. I'm good. That's it? I was like, mm-hmm. All right. Look, he's setting goals. Count your blessings. That's something. Count your blessings. Only need seven more to make the collection. Some of us have like –
Some of us have places and goals where you want to visit or you want to go to a ballpark or you want to go have an experience. There's a bucket list for everybody, and his bucket list just involves a laundry list of jerseys. I feel like there
There are far less expensive bucket lists or far more expensive bucket lists to kind of go down. So I think I can get on board with this. There are far cheaper articles of clothing also. Well, I'm not saying it's going to be a cakewalk. I'm just saying, like, you can get out here over the course of the next two or three years for, like, 400 bucks.
If you buy them at the right time or on sale, that's a lot. But if you spread it out over birthdays, holidays, Christmas. I told him Christmas is right around the corner. That was my first. Yeah, you're going to be in good shape. Yeah, a jersey of holiday keeps the doctor away. That's what I've been told. That's what they say. Yeah, but he went to hit baseball with his buddies yesterday. It's like 107. He wanted to wear it. I'm like, really?
You're going to be sweating all over that thing? He's like, nah. I mean, his Steph Curry jersey has been on his doorknob for a week straight.
He puts it on in the morning, and then if he goes to do something else, he'll change. But if he goes outside to shoot basketball, by God, that's Steph Jersey Curry. He's got to. He's on. That's it. Which is cool for me because access to jerseys when I was a kid was like... It was very hard. It wasn't even real. It wasn't a real thing. The first thing was starter jackets. Yep, and I can remember working at Foot Action in Brookwood Mall when they first started breaking out the college jerseys when teams first signed with Nike. So the first round was like Florida, Alabama, Miami...
Penn State, we had Penn State jerseys in there. Oh, wow. And there was no name or anything, but it had the swoosh. And then I think the Miami jersey was 52. I think Todrick Malone got him one. I think Bama was 80, which may have been like a leftover Eric Curry. Penn State may have been like 32 for Kajana Carter. Florida, probably maybe like a 7. I think it was 7.
But that's like the only jerseys you could get. And then like your bookstore at your college is. But you had to like go to an NFL game to get a jersey. Like you had to go to Fulton County Stadium to get a jersey. And now these kids can just get them, oh, down the street. There's Judge Acuna. Otani. Cool, I'll take one. It's just it's totally different now, which is great for the kids, but it's just different. Yeah, I know. We're jealous. It's fine.
I am. Yeah, I was there with you, man. And honestly, I never paid attention to the John Morant shoe. But when his came in, I was like, I would wear those right now. Like, I was freaking sweet. Like, I would wear those today. Not going to work out, though. So either way.
All right, got a lot for you today from Alabama on the practice field over the weekend. Auburn was on the practice field on Friday. They'll be back on the practice field today. Some interesting thoughts from Nick Sheridan, Kalen DeBoer. We're going to hear all of those. A lot to get to there. There's some injury news out of camp. There's Michigan news. G-Mac, I don't really know what to make of it just yet. It looks really bad, but...
On the surface, and we'll dive into the conversation a little bit more later, has this significantly changed your opinion on Jerome Moore, Michigan's punishment, with the whole Conor Stallion situation? Yes. Anytime you have a coach that's facing a show-cause penalty,
That's a huge problem. Deleting 52 text messages is also an issue. I'm not super concerned about how it impacts their team this year. I don't know how you anticipated having an impact on it. I just think that sometimes those adversities, if you will, can galvanize a program, but
But it makes me think because he was deleting text messages, there might be more to the story than perhaps we originally thought. And if he has a show cause penalty, that's going to severely impact his ability to recruit and his ability to go on the road and things like that. So.
You look at some of the other people that are involved, Jim Harbaugh, Chris Partridge, Jannard Robinson, Stallions, Sharon Moore. You have a bunch of people that are facing level one violations. That's a huge issue. So you know you and I, I feel like we're pretty level-headed about this stuff. But when you see the possibility of your head coach receiving a show cause –
And I mean, I don't care about the suspension, to be honest with you, but a show cause that could have a huge impact on the program moving forward. I agree. But kind of this is a little bit of a sidebar because I agree with you with with him deleting those text messages. But there are a lot of people that I think just when they see deleted text messages, they immediately go nuts. I deleted text messages. I delete almost all of my text messages. And it's not to get rid of those texts. It's to have my important text towards the top of my phone.
Like our Mac and Cube group text, I can't have that thing in the middle of all of my text messages. It's too hard to get to. Like my wife is the only one that stays at the very people. You know how to pin it? You can pin it. No, I don't know how to do that. I know that hers is different than everybody else's and stays at the top. You can have it, yeah. And a different friend of mine also used to be there and now he's gone. I don't know how he's gone now. I don't know. But I delete a bunch of text just to have my important text at the top of my phone, but
But I feel like a lot of people yesterday or the day before were like, oh, he deleted 52 text messages. It's like, okay, I deleted a bunch of texts. But being who it is, I guess it is a little bit more important. They did still show up for – I mean I think they still found him and still saw him. I think he turned them over in time. It's just he didn't do it initially. Maybe voluntarily he didn't turn them over. I don't know. Yeah, I think it would be more helpful –
Look, I'm not saying that he was completely involved. I'm not saying all these other things. I'm just saying it looks sketchy. My text messages delete automatically after 30 days. I have all my important text messages pinned at the top, all the ones that I use with regularity. But if you're deleting text messages, it gives reasonable doubt that you are guilty.
Whether you like it or not, those text messages could be like, hey, dude, what do you want for lunch? I'm going to pick up lunch. For all we know, that's all the conversation was. But if you delete it and Connor Stallions is found to be guilty of all the things that he's been accused of, then you're dead. I mean, people are going to draw conclusions, and the NCAA is likely going to draw conclusions, and you're going to potentially get some type of penalty that will make it difficult to recruit. And if you're the head coach and you have –
a possibility of a show cause penalty, that's going to be a huge issue. That's a prohibitive. There are head coaches in the SEC in recent years, Jeremy Pruitt, for example, that have had a difficult time getting jobs because of the possibility of a show cause or an extended show cause or fighting show cause or what have you. So if it makes it prohibitive to hire them as an assistant, then
What does that mean for the head coach? I think that would be of concern for me for sure if I were Michigan, knowing that my coach was under the microscope like that. I don't think any program would want it. And you said it's shady as far as deleting the text. This whole thing is shady. Let's be honest. The guy was wearing a...
opposing coach's outfit with video glasses on. What are we talking about? The whole thing is extremely shady. But it did change my opinion a little bit on what might come of it from Michigan in the end. That's yet to be determined by the NCAA. Tell our listeners about ABS Systems, G-Mac.

Alabama football here in just a moment. Before we get to Alabama football and Kalen DeBoer, here's some audio from him talking Jalen Milrow. G-Mac, tell our listeners what they can get from Iconic Cards.

And Iconic Carts has two locations to make it easy on you in downtown and in Chelsea.
Or you can always go online at iconiccarts.com. All right, Kalen DeBoer discussing Jalen Milrow's progression so far through just a few practices this fall.
Took the best steps I've seen since I've been here. The way he's intentional about coming out, you know, even not just what you say, but just how you do things, what your body language is. And he gets that. That's important. But he's actually just really leading that way. And then it leads to him playing well, you know, and the other guys just following suit. So today he came out again, really today through the deep ball, probably as well as I'd seen him throw. That's a lot of just guys playing.
and the timing and all of that and his rhythm coming into play. He's feeling more comfortable there. So some big plays that were made out there. He's really done a nice job, you know, raising his game, asking more out of himself. I'm pushing him. I know Coach Sheridan is too. Every day, just like those details, man, be on it. G-Mac, how much can some of that nonverbal stuff help Jalen Milrow this year as Coach DeBoer was sort of singling out the leadership, the body language, things like that?
Well, I think it helped a lot. I mean, you and I are pretty familiar with some of the things that happened that people wouldn't know about necessarily. And just...
play organization stuff, remembering all the processes stuff, forgetting a very important aspect of getting ready to snap the ball and making sure that everyone's on the same page. I think those are things that he maybe got a little carried away with last year. I think things were moving really fast for him. And while he's really, really good and talented and has a lot of skill,
Doing the little things is something that was a work in progress, if you will. So I think that's going to be really beneficial. And leadership is going to come when you play well because you can't lead if you're not good. Simple as that. If you don't play well, people will not respond to what you tell them. With all due respect, if a guy's missing blocks right and left up front, Kolek, are you going to listen to him? No. No?
If a guy's missing throws, guess what? They ain't going to listen to him either. If a guy can't cover in the back end, no one's listening to you, what you have to say. So you need to play well. But I think there also needs to be a...
and elevated attention to detail offensively this year, and that starts with the quarterback. Because, look, Jalen's a great player. There's no doubt about it, but the attention to detail last year with some things, and we don't need to go into the detail of it, needs to be better because that will allow everyone to be on the same page and will allow for a lot less negative plays and or mistakes. So it's going to be really beneficial, I think, moving forward because I think once you play a lot more, you're going to be able to compartmentalize and be able to kind of
It just feels more natural and more routine. Right. So some of those things could take Jalen Milrow just a little bit further. We'll spend more time on Jalen, talk more about that as the show progresses. But he joins us each and every Monday, thanks to our friends at Crane Works. Hear him 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays right here on JOX. This is Paul Feinbaum. Lift it, load it, grade it, grind it.
Paul Feinbaum on Mac and Cube in the morning is brought to you by Crane Works. Lift it, buy it, rent it. The big dog's got it. Now, Paul Feinbaum. Paul, always great to be with you. I want to start with the intimidation of Nick Saban and you working with him. Heard a little bit of your interview with Dan Patrick last week. I never expected to hear that come out of your mouth.
Well, the intimidating part wasn't the physical presence, Cole. It was the fact that every question I knew that not only did he know the answer better, he knew it 100 times better, especially when we were talking about Alabama.
And it was just, I had talked to him before that one-on-one, which I was very comfortable with. And quite frankly, it was fascinating to dig deep. But in a setting like that, I may have hyperbolized it slightly, but Greg understands. I mean, he spent a lot more time on the set with him
than I did. But, you know, maybe the Nick Saban six months from now will be a little bit easier. But he was just so hungry for a bite at the apple on things that he knew so well that I think that was part of the reason I answered it that way. Paul, as you assess just his comfort level and how he's going to continue to progress in this business, it's going to be funny.
Obviously, sharing the desk with six people will be a little different. How do you think he'll enjoy being on this side of the microphone? Well, I think he'll enjoy it because, as you know, Greg, it goes right to the core of who he is. It's preparation. It's delivery. It's execution. Having some food this season with Paul. Yeah.
We'll get back to Paul in just a moment. Referencing just kind of Kalen DeBoer first and foremost, G-Max, speaking of comfort level, when we heard that audio early between him and Milrow, did you expect sort of the transition from a comfort perspective with he and his players to sound like it is where it is? I don't know if it realistically is or not, but it's coming across that way. I think he sounds real pleased with where the team is at. It's so early. It's so early. You can feel good about guys coming.
effort level in camp at this point. It's the execution level, though, that I think would probably be lacking, but it sounds like they're in a good spot. All right. We'll try to get Paul Feinbaum back on the show here in just a moment. First, let's talk about your CBD store. If you're looking for a product that can help get you a better night's sleep, better focus throughout the course of the day, your CBD store can help. You can go by now. One of their four locations. It's the largest brick-and-mortar CBD retailer on planet Earth.
Ask them about arthritis, anxiety for you or your pets, skin care, gut health. Your CBD store can help you out today.
Highway 280 by Bailey, brother. 150 by the Cajun Cleaver. Trustful just off 459. And now downtown in Five Points, your CBD store where good health hits home. First company to have USDA certified organic oil supplements. They got the stamp seal on those products. They have to meet and achieve a certain set of standards. That's why your CBD store is the place for you. All right, back to Paul Feinbaum. Lost you there for a moment, Paul. Apologize for that. Yeah.
Yeah, I would just simply answer what Greg said in terms of, you know, Nick Saban is eminently prepared for what he's about to do because he will be the most prepared person in television, maybe other than Greg. He will be meticulous. He'll be analytical at a level that we've never seen or heard before.
I think the issue is, and we've all been there, where we have to sit and listen to people patiently, sometimes intelligently, and sometimes they're rambling about things which they don't really know very much about or haven't been paying attention. I think that would be the frustrating level. I know for a fact that Greg and I, and you too as well, Cole, but Greg and I spent a year together traveling around. We often would sit and listen to someone else on the panel,
And I only wish the audience could have seen the eyes that we were making at each other as other people were rambling on. I don't know if Saban will follow that and will be as patient as we were, maybe is what I'm trying to say.
Paul, I want to turn the page and go to Auburn for a moment. Not necessarily what's happened in practice. Had two at the end of last week. Haven't taken too much from that other than maybe how the wide receiver core looks. But this recruiting for Hugh Freeze doesn't feel like it's a one-weekend thing. They go get a commitment from 2025 edge Jared Smith out of Alabaster, another high-profile recruit.
Should Auburn fans expect this to continue? And has this exceeded your expectations so far with what Hugh Freeze has done on the planes?
It has blown me away. I feel like right now Auburn is literally on fire in recruiting, and that is such an integral part. And some can argue, well, hey, let's look at the charts. Let's look at this. Recruiting is about momentum. Recruiting is about having people believe that you are on the right track as opposed to the wrong track. And when you turn a couple of players, when you do something that hasn't happened very often,
and beat the rival in-state. Alabama fans can maybe mitigate it and say, well, we recruit differently now. And that may be true. But it plays to the base. And when you have momentum, that means more people get involved, more people become invested. And I think right now that is the story at Auburn. I'm not trying to say, well, a 7-5 or an 8-4 record this year.
It's going to change things. Hugh Freeze needs an improvement on the football field, but as long as everyone believes this program will get there eventually, and I do based on what I'm seeing, then I think everyone on the Auburn side has to be thrilled.
Paul, I hate to make kind of a bit of a right turn here, but I am curious to get your take on Michigan. You've obviously been very critical of Jim Harbaugh, but I haven't heard a whole lot of criticism about Jerome Moore. I also don't know if I've gotten your assessment of the Connor Stallion situation. The Connor Stallion situation is water under the bridge. They won a national championship, but the future for Michigan is...
is a little more cloudy in the event in which Jerome Moore receives a show-cause penalty. So what's your reaction to everything that's gone down this weekend? Well, I mean, I think on surface it looks terrible, but Greg –
We don't know exactly how it's going to land. And what I really don't think we know either is what the next step is going to be. And I think it's pretty obvious that whatever the NCAA says, there will be a lawyer waiting at the courthouse representing the school and Sharon Moore. And I think that's really what's going to drag this out. Ultimately, I think there'll be some accommodation because the NCAA does not want to get near a courtroom again. And,
just look at what happened really with a much less serious situation in Tennessee a couple of months ago. So I, I think it will look ugly. I think Michigan will certainly take some hits, but I don't see this as bringing down the program or really slowing, slowing it down either because,
Most of us feel like we've been down this road before. They won the national championship, and I know everyone can say whatever they would like to say, but Charlie Baker said they won it fair and square, whether that really means anything or not. He did say it. And I don't think anything is changing there, and quite frankly, I don't think the penalty here will be too severe. Paul, always great catching up with you. Appreciate the time. Look forward to catching up with you again next week.
A pleasure. Thank you, guys. All right, there you go. Paul Feinbaum joining us on the Buyer's Right Hotline. For all your insurance needs, look to Buyer's Right Insurance, a member of the WRM Group, where relationships matter. Paul, talking multiple things there, and interesting that Michigan in the news because Ohio State will be our team today.
that we ask and answer the question, will they make the college football playoff? Why? Why not? That's the team that we choose today to discuss. We'll have one team every day leading up to the start of college football season. Some Kentucky news we need to get to. Florida news we need to get to. Tennessee news we need to get to. Auburn stays hot in recruiting. 2025 edge, Jared Smith, 6'6", 250, has committed to Hugh Freeze out of Alabaster.
will be an interesting one to watch from an availability perspective. But good prospect nonetheless. And Hugh Freeze, as Paul said, Auburn's kind of on fire in recruiting right now. Has his recruiting exceeded your expectations so far, GMAC? No, not at all. I mean, what did we talk about when he got hired? It brings alignment. There's support. And right now it's no secret what leads to quality recruiting, and that's having a deep relationship
war chest of NIL support. I mean, that helps a lot. It's not everything, but it's a lot. So clearly they have that support, which is beneficial. But I also think that Hugh Freeze has a proven track record of putting guys in the NFL. I mean, if Hugh Freeze had never put anybody in the NFL, it doesn't matter how much NIL money you have. It's not going to make a difference. But he sent a bunch of guys to the show, so I think that would make it a little easier for guys to probably come to the conclusion, hey, this is a good place to go and
You can also sell hope, too. You can sell hope and build. I think a lot of guys kind of gravitate towards that. I don't think there's any doubt when you begin talking about exactly what this coaching staff has done in recruiting. As we've heard some people say, things have kind of evened out just a little bit financially.
And when that happens, then you lean towards who can recruit still. And he's got a staff of recruiters, and it's paying off for Auburn right now. Just stop a train. All right. Michigan and Sharon Moore. A lot of things uncovered and released with the report of the NCAA's investigation into Michigan over the weekend. Connor Stallions apparently deleted, removed multiple hard drives on computers inside the facility. We talked about a little bit earlier, deleted over 52 text messages. Sharon Moore did between he and Connor Stallions. There's just a lot of this, Greg, that we knew it was a bad look. It just makes it look like an even worse look for Michigan.
I think that's the problem is I don't know if it changes anything. I don't know if it changes my opinion on anything that went down. But if for whatever reason he receives a show cause, that's a game changer. And it's going to have a legitimate impact on the future of how Michigan can recruit and the limitations that they might have and the amount of interaction they can have with players. So that, I think, would be a bit concerning moving forward.
One of the things that is a little bit alarming about those texts, when they were deleted, it was the day in October that the media reports began to come out. And obviously you had the fact that he was in disguise at an opponent's game on the sideline, how he received that bench pass, nobody's really found out just yet. Those text messages being gone, multiple hard drives removed inside the facility. I mean, it goes to...
I think the scope and the depth, what we actually knew about how it was taking place, was a lot of uncertainty kind of around that, G-Mac. But now, when you think about the fact that we have a little bit more clarity as to just who knew, how much they knew, how much they were communicating, it makes it a much worse look for Michigan. Yeah, I think it's a really, really bad look. So, like I said, it doesn't change my opinion on the situation. My opinion has been different.
pretty steadfast in how it impacted Michigan, whether or not they won games in spite of it, whether or not they won games because of it. My opinion is the same. But I do think in the court of public opinion, it's going to hurt them even further, and I'm more concerned about how it could impact them moving forward. The other part about Strome Moore that people need to understand is
repeat violator would be something that he could be labeled with here because going back to COVID when he was illegally contacting recruits and that came out during a dead period,
That could be added on to this and make it a little bit worse. But ultimately, I don't know what the worst that Michigan could get here. What happens, like you said, the show cause for some coaches, maybe it's something that does take place and something that they do get. I don't view it as being that bad. Kind of similar to this Kentucky situation. Two years probation. They're going to have to vacate games, the ultimate vacating football games for Mark Stoops and his staff. Greg, I know it's something that always hurts everybody's feelings.
Man, what a – I mean, those games, we have to wipe them from your memory. So just everybody remind me which ones that we need to forget because those are the ones that, I mean, just can't under any circumstances. You've got to just completely acknowledge that they are gone from the record. They have never existed. They'll never exist again, and we're not allowed to remember them. So vacating games always – what a big, big, big adjustment. Massive. All right. All right.
Will Ohio State make the playoff? Top of the hour, we answer that question. We'll talk to Zach Oberverde just after that and discuss an injury in camp, how much that impacts Florida this season. day and you need an expert that focuses on adapting at half the time to make sure you come on top that's my buddy ben heading of the bham realty group visit his website at bhamrealtyco.com or give him a call at 205-568-2705 well guys we saw some hall of famers go into the pro football hall of fame over the weekend and it's it's crazy to believe that you know the older i get the more i realize like man it's something different when i say oh i got a chance to watch him play
Well, one in particular is Devin Hester, primarily known as a special teams player. And by God, it's a phase of the game, so we're going to talk about it. Give me your top three special teams players in your lifetime. So, yes, punters and kickers are going to be included. Long snappers, holders. I'll say Devin Hester, one. I will say Steve Tasker, two. And I will say.
Dante Hall 3. Ah. Dante Hall was Devin Hester before Devin Hester, it felt like. Like, he was, for maybe a year or two, like, he was absolutely 100% electric. All right. I'm not going kickers and punters because I don't feel like, no disrespect, but I got to time for it. But do you tasker?
Steve Tasker, number three. Just an amazing, amazing player for a very long time. Brian Mitchell from the Philadelphia Eagles. You remember him? Redskins as well, right? What's that? Did he play in Washington too? He played for the Redskins, played for the Eagles, played for the Giants. He basically lived in the NFC East and just wore us out all the time.
And then my personal favorite at number one, Bill Bates, Dallas Cowboys baby. Just obviously just superstar at the position. So special team stars all over the place. There you go. John? Number three for me, I hope I don't get any flack for this because Damien said they are allowed in here, is Sebastian Janikowski. I saw him with my own eyes kick a 75-yard field goal.
Okay. I'll give you some credit for that. Plus, he was a first-round draft pick. He was. Drew Brees can't say that. Should have been. Number two is Devin Hester, for all the reasons we mentioned before. But number one, because I saw with my own eyes, also from Miami, Santana Moss. Ah, Santana.
As good and as fast as Hester was, I saw it from Santana Moss. And not to say that Devin Hester wasn't nearly as good. It's just I know I saw it. I saw it on game with Hester. I saw it with my own eyes with Santana. I've never seen anyone run so fast yet run so effortlessly.
His arms were just kind of, I guess I got to do this. Fine. Oh, someone's coming. It's like he was running almost like the Flash and could just watch people come. It's like, oh, I need to, okay. I just move out the way and I got this. Oh, I scored. Okay, cool. Yeah. Sebastian Genachowski, 65th all-time in field goal percentage career. What time? What number? 65th all-time in field goal percentage.
Now, he is tied for 10th in field goals made with 436. So top 10 somewhere. Top three for John. A couple of great Bobby Bowden stories on Sebastian Janikowski. So if you want to like great stories of folklore, then, yeah, that's probably a good choice. But as far as quality, yeah, probably not. I'll see you out here kicking 80-yarders.
Not sure that it matters. Seeing as how it's part of the top three special team players. I mean, you could have included yourself. You were holding, weren't you? Adam Benetieri. How many game winners has he cooked? Look, I'm taking the NFL model. We all know Mahomes should be number one, but is he there? No. My list. He's got a point. I thought you were going to go Justin Tucker, G-Mac. I know you're a big Baltimore Ravens guy, right?
I mean, my boy's the linebacker coach, so yeah, I've done an about face on the Ravens. I got you. So I root for them now, 100%. 10-4. That makes sense to me. I thought Justin Tucker would have been in the top three. I got no time for Justin Tucker, though. He said he's not including those people on his list. Ah, understandable. Well, number three for me, I got Adam Vinatieri. Like kind of what G-Mac said, when you talk about the importance of the
the kicking phase of the game there's not many that can say that they have multiple game-winning field goals as a super bowl uh winner no lustrous career uh number two for me i got dante hall he was the human joystick i remember seeing him uh you know growing up and just how elusive he was and he made the game of football look that easy and just returning both punts and kicks and number one is devon hester i just again when you uh
You start the Super Bowl with a kickoff return for a touchdown, and then you end up losing. But, and as a rookie on top of that, biggest game of your life, and the first touch that you have as a touchdown, he's built different. He only continues to get better. That's why he has a gold jacket now. No, he was electric. I don't think there's any doubt about it. Janikowski, 13th all-time in extra points made. So, yeah.
By the way, George Blanda first with 943. Don't think anybody would have gone there. Old George Blanda. No, old GB. I love that you're still on the Janikowski numbers. I love that. I'm just interested where he falls as far as, you know. It's third. Statistically, I was interested in where he was. How come no punters on the list here? I do believe that he's one of those guys that, like, the folklore –
elevates his name just a little bit. Like the fairy tales elevate his name, but he's got legitimate numbers to back it up at the same time. So first round pick kind of as a kicker. I mean, if you're top 15 in multiple statistical categories, I'm not going to ever put a kicker above a position player, but well, that's great. Your topic says we just made a top three.
So for Janikowski to be top three specialist all time. Hey, over Deion Sanders, over Dante Ball, over Devin Hess, over a turn game. We're taking Janikowski who's 65th in career percentages. It's cool. How many touchbacks did he have though? I don't even know the answer. Probably one to snap back down. Yeah. He's got a bunch.
He's got a bunch. He put up some numbers. He did. I'm not saying he didn't. I was just interested in kind of seeing where his numbers were compared to some other kickers. If we were asked to put kickers up there, we probably would. No Desmond Howard from anyone?
If you wanted to go individually in a Super Bowl, yes, I would. One of the great performances of all time. Win a Super Bowl MVP, I'll give you that one. I don't know from a career standpoint if I'd put it in. I will tell one story, though, a great Sebastian Janikowski story from Bobby Bowden. I guess Sebastian Janikowski at one of the bowl games was out drinking.
And they asked Bobby Bowden about it, which I'm sure surprises everybody listening to this show. And they asked Bobby Bowden about it, and he goes, well, we have different rules for our Polish players, which...
I thought it was a pretty tremendous response to a gotcha question from a journalist. So Bobby Bowden, all-time great. And the story about Sebastian Jadakowski, that's one of about 15 of them that are hilarious about his experiences in Tallahassee. All right, here we go. Tell us about it. I think that was actually Shutterball going into. Oh, wow. Yes. Oh, wow. Yeah. Yes. Yes.
He's out drinking. Bobby was the, he could move the goalposts a little bit if he needed to. Yeah, he's the best. But he did it with so much charm that nobody ever really got mad about it. It is National Oyster Day as well. Nobody in on that? I'm in Boston. I might fire. You should. Also, National Work Like a Dog Day. So are we going to be working harder today? Yeah.
That's what type of dog you are, good. I was going to say, I've never been around a lot of dogs that actually worked. How much dog you got in you? And National Underwear Day, apparently, according to the website that hands out National Day. All right, Landers Day, okay. That's good. Yeah, a little bit of a weird one there. Not applicable for Damien. No, no, no. Your boy, Wade Charles. We missed. Missed a lot right there.
We did talk a little bit of Michigan. We know one team that they will play this season will be Ohio State.
