Good evening and welcome to Monsters Among Us. I'm your guide, Derek Hayes. What a pleasure it is to be back with you here this evening. It's the new year. Winter is settling in and all the festivities are now behind us. The perfect time to share some spooky stories.
And oh boy do I have some good ones slated for this evening. Stories of mimicry, small creatures, feral humans, strange objects in the sky, and even a visit from three mysterious men. But more on all that here in a bit. First, I quickly want to say as of right now we are safe from all the fires here in Southern California. But the same can't be said for many, many others here in SoCal.
So before we move on, I just want to say that our thoughts are with everyone, battling the flames. And here's to calmer skies tomorrow. But for now, let's kick off this evening. And we begin here in my state of California. Please join me in welcoming Rod to tonight's program.
Hey, Derek. My name is Rod. I'm calling from Southern California. I've been listening to the show for years now, but I've never called in before. I guess the more I listen, the more I realize there's maybe stuff I can contribute. I guess the power of a show like what you have here is to collect a lot of data from different people and bring things to light that we might not have seen otherwise. Stuff like the alien black cats and the mirrored men, things like that.
So I was listening to season 13, episode 9, and a caller named Jill had a story from Minnesota in 1990. She had mentioned talking with a shadow man who had convinced her that she could somehow disappear by changing her molecules. And this jarred a memory loose for me, which I know is something the callers, you know, that we say sometimes.
But I'd completely forgotten about this for decades. In a similar time and place, in 1994 in South Dakota, right next to Minnesota, I was playing on a middle school football team. And I remember I was at practice and one of my teammates was just chit-chatting with me. And he tells me out of the blue that he can do this same thing. He describes to me exactly what Jill described, which was sort of if you concentrated hard enough, you could change your cells or your molecules or something and make yourself invisible. And I was like,
And I mean, this is middle school, you know, so you have to think a little bit critically and skeptically. But, you know, I was there for it. So I asked him more about it. And he was telling me that he does this regularly, that he will sort of lay down in bed, hyper focus and make himself invisible or something that sounds a little bit like astral projection or something like that, I guess. And, you know, one thing to keep in mind is this guy is
I don't remember him ever telling a joke. I don't remember him ever smiling. He was just like the most salt of the earth, you know, farm kid, just very, very earnest about everything to the point where I believed him. You know, he wanted me to try it. And I was actually nervous enough because he was so genuine and seemed so credible about everything else that I'd never tried it because I was terrified that it would work.
So I'd completely forgotten about that. But when I was listening to this call from Jill, I thought, my God, I've heard this before. I've heard this kind of scenario before, not with the Shadow Man, obviously, but it really sparked something. So for whatever it's worth, maybe someday down the line, we will figure out this is a thing. And these two calls will be, you know, just in a heap of many others that help us understand whatever this is. But I just wanted to share that while it was fresh. So obviously, I appreciate everything you do. Appreciate all the calls that are submitted.
and everybody helping to collect that data as well. So keep it spooky and talk to you later. Thank you, Rod. Well, it's a new one for me. Of course, I've seen stuff like this on television, but it's almost always fictional. The Invisible Man. The Invisible Man Returns. The Invisible Man's Revenge. The Invisible Woman. I think you get the point. The trope is well represented in Hollywood. But like I said, I'd never heard of anyone actually accomplishing this feat before.
personally but rod mentioned something that caught my ear that perhaps it was something more akin to remote viewing or astral projection that the middle school friend was practicing and he simply didn't have the words to describe what he was experiencing now to this rationally thinking mind that makes a lot of sense it makes this whole story a lot easier to swallow now i can't say for certainty because much of the evidence has been hidden from us but
I do believe both remote viewing and astral projection are real experiences some human beings are capable of. After all, many governments around the world, including our own here in the US, had or have programs that utilize these unique talents. The CIA had a group of crack-shot remote viewers that worked on a project called Project Stargate. Heavy hitters in the field were involved. Russell Targ, Uri Geller,
in Ghost Swan. And believe it or not, the CIA actually owns up to supporting Project Stargate. But still to this day remains adamant that they uncovered little to no evidence that either psychic power is possible. However, they did fund research on the subject from 1972 all the way up to 2003. So they devoted 31 years to something they claim never worked in the first place. I know the government is awfully wasteful.
But how dumb do they think we are? Now I have no doubt that this research continues to this day, though it's now behind closed doors. Which circles me back to Rod's friend. You never know, maybe he ended up getting recruited by the CIA himself, because it certainly sounds like he's mastered the ability. Well either way, we thank you again Rod for the awesome entry. The perfect way to kick off tonight's episode.
And this next entry is the perfect way to keep the ball rolling. From the land of Lincoln, please welcome Leah to the program. Hi, my name is Leah and I'm from the northern suburbs of Chicago. This happened in June of 2018. And I was with my two friends and we went to a forest preserve. And we spotted a feral child there.
who was following us and he looked to be about our age, which was 17 at the time. And we got a really weird vibe. He was wearing long pants, a long gray coat,
He had longish hair and I think was wearing slides or was barefoot. And we had never seen him there before. And there's a main trail that you used to walk around and he was following us on it. So we walked. There's like a river cutting the forest preserve down the middle.
We eventually made our way to that so he wouldn't follow us anymore. And we stood in the water for a few minutes and he started pacing back and forth along the trail. And we could see him walking through the trees. And we got really, really freaked out and continued to walk around along the waterline until we could reach a part of the trail where we could run straight out.
And once we exited the water, he was to the side of us running in the forest. And eventually, like right before we got to our car, we saw him standing on the trail. We looked back and like saw him standing there.
And he turned his face away really quickly, which was strange. And then we kept walking. And about two seconds later, I turned around again and he was gone. So, yeah, I hope this was intriguing. We've never seen him again since we've been there. And, yeah, I'm a new listener, but I love your podcast so far. I'm very excited to keep listening. Take care. Bye. Thank you, Leah.
Now this is a legend I've heard come out of Shenandoah National Park and the Smoky Mountains National Park, but never from the state of Illinois. That said, the southern reaches of that state are pretty wild still, so if there were folks living off-grid and off the land down that way, I certainly wouldn't be surprised. Now the question that I have, and I'm sure many of you share this inquiry, how much danger did this young man present?
if he was part of a feral or uncivilized clan. After all, who's to say if feral folk have the same morals and ethics that we do? Who's to say if they follow the same rules? And who's to say what they might be capable of? Or perhaps they're just out there minding their own business, away from the crowds and away from the nonsense. I can tell you that the older I get, the more appealing that sounds to me. So I certainly don't blame anyone for wanting to disappear.
But whatever the explanation is, we can't thank you enough, Leah, for taking time to tell us all about it. Thanks again for calling in. Now, folks, I have to take a quick break, but when I return, I have all sorts of weirdness to share here with you. So don't go anywhere. Maybe you have back pain. Call, he's missed the last two games. None dare call a treat and nadie quiere llamarle tres. Goods and moderates. Goods and moderates.
Now we hear a lot of UFO stories here on the program. Odd craft in the sky, strange objects hovering overhead, and unusual lights zipping through the stars. But most of those encounters are from the same perspective, the civilian perspective. But this next call deviates a bit from the norm, because this time the reporting party is part of the most elite human military on the planet.
Please welcome the following anonymous caller from Parts Unknown.
It's about 3 o'clock in the morning, and, you know, we're all tired. We're trying to stay awake, so we're, you know, talking, passing the time. And my starboard lookout asked me if I have an air contact, you know, down this bearing. So I checked. I don't have anything. So I just keep looking. I keep looking. Nothing's popping up. So I go back out to him. I go, yeah, I ain't got nothing. And then my port lookout is talking. He goes, I see a plane. And I was like, well, I don't know. I don't see anything, man.
By the time I said that, he asked me, he goes, what kind of plane has headlights? I said, what? What do you mean headlights? You know, they have running lights, but no headlights. And then by the time I got done saying that, they just both start losing their minds. I couldn't hear anything. You know, I didn't feel the ship rock or anything, but they start screaming and hollering that it buzzed over us. And at
And at the console I sit at, there's a little green screen at the top. It'll tell you the statuses of the equipment and all that, whether it's up, down, degraded, offline, that kind of stuff. We also have an alarm panel on one of the walls that's
that's connected to another room that if, you know, an alarm gets triggered, it'll sound off in combat so we can go, you know, see what it is. And when that thing flew over us, everything on my crow just went down.
And every alarm on that wall went off. So you got like 15 alarms, you know, all making different sounds and everything just went down. And it was down for about maybe 30 seconds to 45 seconds. And it all just kicked back on. No problem.
You know, I knew I wasn't crazy. That was a coincidence. So we get off watch and I head down to birthing and I'm talking to them like, what was it? What did you see? And they were like, it looked like a plane. It wasn't moving crazy fast. And then all of a sudden we see these like headlights shooting out from the front of it. And then Nora's looking at it and it just goes supersonic, man. It just buzzed right over us. Yeah, that's my story.
Thank you caller, and thanks to your friend for suggesting that you call in. I certainly see why they did so. And as amazing as this entry is, there is only one thought that stuck in my head. The ship was likely state of the art. All the bells and all the whistles. Which means it should have had cameras stationed to view all angles. Including IR cameras, sound recording equipment.
Plus, I'm sure the radar data is being recorded. So where is all that footage? Where is all that data? Well, as we learned over the past five or ten years or so, it's out there. And it's slowly leaking its way to the general public. So what I'm getting at here, caller, is that maybe one day a video of your experience will be leaked or released to the public. And how incredible would it be if it does? Now, of course, if you happen to notice that that's the case...
please call back and let us know. We would love to lay eyes on it. And thank you again for sharing. Now, folks, if you have a story you would like me to feature here on the program, submitting is simple. Just call our toll-free 24-7-365 hotline at 888-608-NIGHT. That's 888-608-NIGHT.
Or you can record your story on your phone and email the voice file to me at monstersamonguspodcast at gmail.com. Now, folks, calling is easy. Follow the prompt. Talk into the phone. That's it. But there are a couple of simple rules. Rules that ensure your call will sound as good as it possibly can. There's nothing worse than a great story from a bad connection. And Lord knows I already have enough of those.
So those rules are: call from a quiet room, put the dog outside, turn off the TV, leave the kids on the other end of the house, and especially don't call from a moving vehicle. Almost all of those calls are such poor quality that I simply can't use them. Now be sure to finish your story. There is a five minute limit per call, but if you get cut off, just call back in and pick back up where you left off. I'll fix everything in post, as we like to say.
And lastly, if you aim to share several different stories, don't do them all at once in one phone call. Separate them when you call in. That makes life so much easier for me. So again, that's 888-608-NIGHT. Love to hear from you. After all, you could get featured like Shannon here from the Golden State of California.
This was probably in 2003.
I was living in Bailey, Colorado at the time. It was about, I don't know, maybe 9 or 10 p.m. at night. My now ex-husband and I were sitting in what was considered our living room. Quick back story, the house that we were living in was built in the 1800s.
And at that time, it was considered the old town hall. There was also a very tiny church attached to the back half of this building. Like at the other side of the deck, there was a small church there. And pastors and nuns actually worked in what was now our house, but in that building. And they would have funerals and weddings and so forth in this building.
So it definitely had some history and it definitely sometimes would give off a very creepy vibe. So this particular night, like I said, it was around 9 or 10 p.m. I have no idea what the time of year was, but it was a very long room and towards the right of it,
There were two doorways, and those two doorways were coming from what was our dining room. And the doorway that was furthest away from us, as we're sitting there watching TV, to the right on the wall is another door into another room.
Well, from the furthest doorway that was open in the living room, all of a sudden you can feel it and see it. This bright white floating entity that was definitely the shape of an adult just calmly and quietly basically floated around.
to the door that was on the wall of the TV that we were watching. And it just went into that room. And I just remember looking at my ex and I was like, did you just see that? And he's like, I absolutely just saw that. And we just kind of looked at each other and we're like, okay. And, you know, got up, decided to kind of check things. Nothing was off. There was nothing in that room.
The room that it went into, we were using as like a changing room, which that room went off into a bathroom. We don't know the full history of the house, but obviously having funerals and weddings and whatever else might have happened in that building, there definitely had to be some kind of energy. So it was just...
Super bizarre. Like I said, there was no negative energy. I just feel like it was just kind of like a ghost or whatever spirit was left from back in time. Very creepy, though, experience because you don't ever expect to see something like that. But I just thought you guys would appreciate that and enjoy the story. Once again, I appreciate what you guys do. Totally love your podcast.
And if I can think of any other things that have happened to me in the past, I will be happy to call and leave you a message. Have a great day. Thank you, Shannon. I don't know that I could imagine a better setup for a haunted house than your situation. The fact that it was a formal funeral home alone is enough to ensure that whatever you do in that home, you won't be doing it alone. Now we have a long track record of sharing super spooky stories that share that exact same scenario.
someone turns a former funeral home into a house and all hell breaks loose now it certainly sounds like a creepy place to call home shannon and i will say it takes some major bravery to live there but we thank you for telling us all about it now if you're a fan of small unknown creatures you're going to love this entry from jack all the way down in australia
G'day Derek, my name's Jack, I am from Australia. I started listening to your podcast maybe halfway through 2022, what's that, a year and a half, and I've just really enjoyed it. I love everyone's stories, they're awesome. Anyway, I've got a little story for you. That's when I was a lot younger, I live in New South Wales. Anyway, when I was younger, I was visiting my granddad, my mother's father.
in a place up on the north coast and I would have been maybe 10 at the time and one night the place was just known to be a bit weird like there were stories of a yeti around which is like in Australia it's a big foot for people that haven't heard that term yeah so there was apparently there was one of them who lived in the area and
Just a bit of a sus area. Anyway, I was asleep one night and my sister, me and my mum were all in the same room and there was the lounge room beside it. The lounge room was in the middle of the house and all the bedrooms and bathroom were around it. Think of it as like a square. The middle was the living room and all the other rooms were around it. Anyway, we're in one of the rooms.
And I remember just looking in the direction of the door and seeing a light under it and thinking that was weird. But then I thought maybe my granddad was up watching TV late at night. He couldn't sleep or something. So I get up and I open the door and in front of me, maybe like a meter away, is this little figure.
It was probably like maybe three feet tall, like a meter. And I just remember its head being really pointy, like it was wearing a hat, but I couldn't see it super clearly because it had flashing lights on it that were super bright. And I kind of couldn't see behind them, they were so bright, but I could see the outline of this little figure. Yeah, like a pointy head, little body. It was like a mix between a robot and an elf. Yeah. Anyway, so I just got really scared, shut the door,
turned the light on in the bedroom and this is what made it kind of like a cool even more of a more sort of a cool memory of mine i just remember my mom getting super annoyed at me for turning the light on and getting into trouble for it the next day and waking her up during the night and i was just trying to explain to her what i saw so we both went out and opened the door nothing was there obviously but yeah i just remember the time in the room like i felt like time had slowed down like it was going a different pace if that makes sense it's like whatever that thing was it was like
I don't know, distorting reality or something. It was pretty active. Anyway, thanks for listening. I hope you can use this. And yeah, if anyone that's seen something similar to that, send your story in because, you know, it's something that stuck with me my whole life. I haven't really told many people about it. I told my wife, maybe my other friend. Anyway, yeah, I love what you do, mate. Keep up the good work. Yeah, be good. See you guys. Thank you, Jack.
Now I hate to be that person, but Jack mentioned that there was a Yeti that lived somewhere local to him. Now I believe he meant to say Yowie, which is Australia's version of the Bigfoot creature. You see the Yeti stems from Asia, the Himalayas of Nepal to be specific. But aside from that little correction, what a story. I love stuff like this, familiar enough that it just might be real.
but wild enough to be considered supernatural or paranormal. A mysterious three-foot robot slash elf. We know this kind of story is perfect to run by Delaney, our in-house researcher, just to see what she can dig up on the subject of forest people down under. And lo and behold, she came across a post on Reddit that sounds eerily similar to me.
I have never ever divulged this information to anyone. I guess because I don't fully believe it myself. It is too outrageous. I live in Australia. Roughly a year ago I was sitting at a bench in a park surrounded by woodland. I was watching my daughter play on the equipment until some movement to my right caught my attention. Something darted behind a tree trunk. Now I kept watching thinking maybe it was a wallaby or something else. But boy was I wrong.
I looked back at my daughter and then absentmindedly looked around again at the tree trunk. And there was a gnome. Now that's the only way I can describe it. It was a type of tiny person. Maybe a foot tall. What is the most unbelievable is that it really was like a garden gnome. Red hat, rosy cheeks, and I remember it had darkly colored lips. It was looking at me with what I can only describe as a malevolent look.
It looked evil. Now I saw it for about 5 to 10 seconds before something caused me to quickly look back at my daughter. And when I looked back, the gnome was gone. And I immediately took my daughter home. Now I will admit this is not something I hear of often. At least not from Australia. But those are two pieces of anecdotal evidence. That suggests that something small is roaming the land of Oz. Thank you again, Jack.
for sharing that wild encounter. Now, how about another story about an unexplained aerial object? This time from the state of Florida. Stephanie, welcome to tonight's program.
Hi, Derek. My name is Stephanie. And while I live in the Tampa area now, I grew up in southeastern Michigan, near Jackson, Michigan. And this
This is a story in reference to your dad's sighting that I just heard on episode 15, 10.5, I think, of the object in the sky that he keeps seeing. So when I was in high school and after high school, so this would be in the 80s,
and into the early 90s, if you looked out my parents' kitchen window over their field, which was corn or hay or oats or whatever that year, and two, there would be a stand of black walnut trees on your left.
And so that was our reference point because I kept seeing a bright light, like a very, very star, almost like Venus or Mars or one of the planets. Venus, I guess, would be the brightest. And the problem was that occasionally it would move. And that was irrespective of the time of night or the season. It would usually be in that same area, but sometimes it would move a little bit.
in one direction or another. It would go up, it would go down, it would go over to the right a little bit. Rarely it would go over to the left. And then eventually, after many years, we just didn't see it anymore. So we all kind of thought, because my mother eventually said, hey, did you ever see that thing in the backyard? And my sister said,
It was like, yeah, I remember that light in the sky. And, you know, for a long time we thought it was some kind of satellite that we were seeing, but it never moved a lot, except for on occasion, if you looked out there in the middle of the night, it would be maybe perspective-wise like six inches away from that black walnut tree, which you would normally attribute to the turning of the earth, except that it
it would be back in the other spot the next night. So that didn't make any sense. This would mean it would be traveling north and south in a horizontal line. So anyway, just something kind of weird, and eventually it did go away. We have never seen it since the early 90s, and it wasn't there every night. Even if the sky was clear, it just would show up and go away, according to our memories anyway. So something a little strange, and maybe that's what your dad's seen, too.
Have a good one. Love the show. Thank you, Stephanie. You know, coincidentally, I actually asked my dad just the other day if he's still seeing the strange lights over his place back in Ohio. And to my surprise, he told me they haven't appeared in months. Whatever they were, they were there one night, and the next they seemed to be gone. And I should also point out that a lot of what he was describing to me sounded eerily similar to what folks in New Jersey have been seeing for going on two months now.
And I guess what folks in Colorado saw five or six years ago. And maybe the same thing that was over Stephanie's farm. Now while we're on the subject of UFOs and UAPs, let me fire off one more unidentified entry. This time, please welcome Ray to the program.
Hey, Derek. How you doing? This is Ray. My brother and I lived up there in Santa Cruz during the 80s and 90s. We were there for that Loma Prieta quake. And after that quake hit, power was out everywhere, man. And that night, everybody was outside of their house. People were afraid to go back into their house because they're aftershocks.
I'm out there talking to my neighbor, Tony Rodriguez. One of the girls said, hey, Ray, look at that. And there's this thing going through the sky like, looked like a pancake with a light at each end, about 30 feet long, maybe eight feet high in the middle. And I shine a flashlight on it. Now, I'm sorry I did that because I don't know if that's what led up to what happened next. I
I'd wake up with scratches, you know, on my body. I'd wake up with bruises on my arm, like a handprint on my upper arm. And one morning...
I'm getting ready to go to work, Silicon Valley. And my brother comes down. He says, were you in my room last night? I said, hell no. He said, well, someone was in my room. I said, well, you're probably dreaming. He said, no. He said, I heard a noise that woke me up. And I woke up. I see some dude standing there looking at me. I said, well, you got a shotgun under the bed. He said,
He said, I didn't even think about that. He says, as soon as I see that dude looking at me, I got real sleepy, went right back to sleep.
I'm like, all right. So a little time goes by, and a couple times I hear like a low-pitched humming noise, like over the house. Like guitar amplifier, bass amplifier, not properly grounded, like that real low-pitched humming. Only this is, that couldn't do it justice. A real low-pitched humming.
It was so loud, I could feel it in my chest. Anyway, sometime goes by, my brother comes down. I'm in the kitchen pouring a cup of coffee. And the dude comes down and says, look at this. He held out his arm. He had a black and blue oval bruise on his arm. You know where they draw blood?
big, like about four inches wide and, you know, six inches long, you know, big oval bruise on his arm. I said, what the hell is that? He said, I don't know, man. I woke up. He said, I didn't have this. And I went to bed and woke up and my arm hurt like hell. And I woke up, I had this big bruise on my arm.
Thank you Ray. An injury possibly caused by a UFO. It's not the first time we've heard that tune. I instantly think of the Falcon Lake incident up in Canada.
where in 1967 an amateur prospector named Stephen Michalak encountered a UFO that landed on the ground. And when he approached the saucer-like craft, it released a gas that burned a strange dotted pattern into the skin of his abdomen. Or the Cash Landrum incident.
A 1980 encounter that left two women, Vicki Landrum and Betty Cash, along with Vicki's grandson Colby, with severe symptoms that doctors called radiation poisoning. A side effect of a sighting that took place on a lonesome Texas highway.
Then there was the Val Johnson UFO collision that occurred on August 27th, 1979 in Marshall County, Minnesota. Johnson was on patrol in his police cruiser when an unidentified object collided with him on a lonesome country road. Now Johnson lost consciousness for 15 minutes or so and some of the electronics in his vehicle went haywire including a stopped clock and watch. And also in 1979
November this time. The story of Robert Taylor, the Scottish game warden that nearly met his maker after an unusual encounter. Here's his story, courtesy of Chasing Conspiracies: The Alien Files, over on YouTube. In November 1979, when 61-year-old Robert Taylor was walking through woodlands near Livingston in central Scotland, the last thing he expected to see was a UFO.
Whatever he encountered, he claimed he was attacked by it and left unconscious. According to Taylor's testimony, when he came to, the UFO was nowhere to be seen. But he claimed the air was full of a choking gas. In a daze, Taylor stumbled back to his house and called the police. When they arrived, they discovered the forestry worker battered and bruised with torn clothing. So there you go, Ray.
There might just be something to your claims after all. Because if it's happened several times before, it certainly could happen again. Now I can't solve your mystery, but I can tell you that you're not alone in experiencing it. Thank you again, Ray, for calling in.
Now folks, I'm down to my last few stories. But fret not, because I have an additional 31 minutes of calls to share with you over in the beyond. Our after show that subscribers on Apple Podcasts and Patreon get to enjoy.

But before we venture back into the beyond, I have more thrills in store for you here on the main program. Like this entry from Alex in Parts Unknown. Hey Derek, this is Alex. I've been listening to the podcast for a bit now and been really, really enjoying it. I tend to lean more skeptical, I think.
So one thing I've really enjoyed is how you always offer a couple of different, you know, explanations for what things could be that people have seen or experienced. So I'm hoping that maybe you or another listener could maybe...
give a fresh perspective on my story, which is the only thing that's ever happened to me that I don't have a good explanation for. So this happened maybe 10, 12 years ago. I would have been about 15 or 16 at the time. I was living in central Texas and it was just an average day. I woke up sometime mid-morning
and went out to the living room from my bedroom. And now just for some context, my bedroom was down the hall from the living room. And once you entered the living room, there was a couch facing away from the hallway. So if you're sitting on the couch, the entrance to the hall is directly behind you.
So I get up, I go out to the living room, and my parents are on the couch, you know, having coffee, reading, whatever. And I go up and say, you know, good morning. And my dad looks up at me and he says, hey, did you come out here like half an hour ago or so? And I'm like, no, I just woke up. So then he explains to me that
About 30 minutes previously, he heard my voice saying, hi, dad. He said hi back, you know, without looking up from his book or newspaper or whatever. And after a couple seconds, he didn't get a response. So he looked up and I'm not there.
And he's confused, and so he asks my mom, who's sitting right next to him, and she heard my voice too. And what's odd, or odder, I guess, is that it wasn't just me saying, hi, dad. It was me saying hi, and then a fairly unique and very specific nickname that I had for my dad was,
And they both heard that exact phrase. But, you know, of course, I wasn't there. And I said, you know, that's weird. I don't know. And we kind of all just brushed it off. You know, there's not much to be said or done about it. I think it was one of those things where we're just like, oh,
I'm sure there's an explanation, then you kind of, like I said, just brush it off. But it did creep me out, of course. I thought about it a lot since then. I considered the possibility that I was sleepwalking, but...
I've never experienced sleepwalking before or since. And even if it had been sleepwalking, I would have had to have exited my room, walked down the hall, right up to the couch, said hello, and then in the...
you know, just few seconds between my dad replying and then looking up, had to have walked back down the hall silently, opened the door to my room, shut it behind me, and gone back to bed. Which, you know, just physically would have been almost impossible with the layout of the house. So that, I just, I don't know. I've also, you know, considered the possibility that it was like
My dad misheard something or even like some auditory hallucination or something, but the fact that both he and my mom heard the exact same thing sort of rules that out for me. And then that's also not the end of the story. So later that night, we were all sitting around the table having dinner. It was me, my mom and dad, and my brother.
And my brother and parents were having some sort of discussion. I think they were arguing about something. So, you know, I wasn't really involved. They were focused on each other. And I'm just kind of sitting there eating dinner. And at this point, I wore my hair fairly long. It was like a little down past my shoulders. And I feel...
like a sensation in my hair like I don't know if it felt like it was moving like a large bug or something was in my hair so I reflexively reached up to swat at it and I felt a good few strands of hair like a good handful almost um fall down from above my head onto my shoulder and
Of course, I whip around and look behind me, and obviously there's nothing there. There couldn't have been by the place the table was, kind of up against the wall. There would be no space for anyone to be behind me. And no one else at the table was paying attention to me, so they didn't see anything or notice anything. And I didn't say anything at the time because, you know, what do you say?
So, yeah, that was all in the span of one day. You know, as far as I know, no one else in my family experienced anything weird in that house ever. And that was the only unusual thing that I ever experienced in that house.
you know, it wasn't that old. No one ever died in it. The entire neighborhood that we lived in was a relatively recent development. So yeah, I really have no good explanation for whatever it was. I don't know if you want to
Thank you, Alex. Okay, what was that? Perhaps a ghost mimicking Alex's voice. A time slip.
Or did Alex's father encounter a future or past Alex somehow? Maybe the dad simply imagined all of this. And maybe he was drifting off to sleep and experienced a bout of exploding head syndrome. The sounds associated with exploding head syndrome also manifest by way of voices and tones as well. But like Alex said, both of his parents heard the sound, not just one of them. Which in my opinion rules out just about every one of those possibilities.
But whoever it was, or whatever it was, we can't thank you enough, Alex, for sharing the encounter here with us. Well, folks, it's that time of the night. Time for tonight's closer. A mysterious little entry from Megan in Parts Unknown.
Hi, Derek. This is Megan. I am calling about a story that happened in Laurel, Maryland, back in 1987. This is actually my mom's story. But essentially, she had just given birth to my sister, Caitlin, who was obviously a newborn baby. And my dad had been commuting to
to work. So to get some distance and to allow him to get some sleep, she started sleeping in the downstairs living room so that she could wake up, feed the baby, and then go back to bed. So she was sleeping on the downstairs living room sofa in our relatively brand new house. The house was built in like 1980.
and she was completely out of sleep. And I'm one of six kids, so there were other children in the house at the time. My sister was second to youngest, so there were still like three children in the house or four children in the house. So she was sleeping and she started
started hearing what sounded like whispering behind her. So she assumed it was one of us, the younger kids, who had come down to like look at the baby or to check on the baby. And she was so scared that we were going to wake up this baby that she rolled over and was like, no, like go to bed. Like do not wake up that baby. And when she turned around, she saw three silhouettes. She says they looked like smoke and they were talking to each other.
And she couldn't understand what they were saying. She said that it sounded more like a than anything else. It didn't sound like words. So she thought, wow, I'm having a hallucination. So she laid back down and kind of turned her face into the sofa and was like, I'm going to go back to bed. And so she goes back to sleep and she feels someone sit down on the end of the sofa and
And she turns around and one of the figures is now sitting at her feet and they're still having a very animated conversation. She couldn't really see them, but she could hear them talking to each other. So she jumped up and she picked up the baby and she just said, like, I'm going to let you guys have your conversation and I'm going back upstairs. And she never slept downstairs again. Then.
That was the only time in that house that anyone ever saw anything, but there's significantly more stories. I've looked up the history of that area, the Skaggsville area, and it's really just farmland. So I'm not really sure who those people were. They might have been visiting relatives, but there were definitely three spirits in our living room. Anyway, enjoy the podcast. I am definitely a Patreon, so I'll keep listening. Thanks. Stay spooky.
Thank you Megan for sharing your mother's encounter, and thank you for joining us over on Patreon. That sort of support is integral to our survival. Well, I gotta be honest here. With three dark silhouettes, my first thought went straight to the mirrored men. But there are several obvious omissions to this story. No mirrored movement, no strange outfits, no missing time, and no odd or inclement weather.
So given all that, I quickly ruled the mirrored man out. But you know, this story reminded me of something else that's been rattling around in my brain for a decade or so. A very famous story from an unusual man out in Pennsylvania. His name was Albert K. Bender, and he formed the very first civilian UFO research group all the way back in 1952. And he published a UFO magazine called Space Review.
Now despite both ventures being popular with the UFO crowd, Bender suddenly shut down his programs only a year after starting them. He claims he was threatened to do so. Now the following was written by Bender himself in his publication, Space Review.
The room seemed to grow dark, yet I could still see. I noted three shadowy figures in the room. They floated about a foot off the floor. My temples throbbed and my body grew light. I had the feeling of being washed clean. The three figures became clearer. All of them were dressed in black clothes. They looked like clergymen, but wore hats similar to Homburg style. The faces were not clearly discernible.
for the hats partly hid and shaded them. Feelings of fear left me, as if some peculiar remedy had made my entire body immune to fright. The eyes of these three figures suddenly lit up like flashbulbs, and all these were focused upon me. They seemed to burn into my very soul, as the pains above my eyes became almost unbearable. It was then I sensed that they were conveying a message to me, by telepathy.
Now what messages were conveyed to Bender you might be asking? Well here to answer your question is Mr. Bender himself from a recording made of one of his presentations all the way back in the 1950s. They did not speak but I could understand the message they were conveying to me. It definitely was telepathic and here's the message.
You have dedicated yourself to the solution of the strange problem of unidentified objects in your atmosphere. Your interest is deep and sincere, and you have devoted many hours to it. We also know that such interest and determination might lead to something that could bring you harm. We feel that you are a very good contact for us on your planet Earth.
You are an average person and we know that what we tell you and show you will not be believed by anyone you might tell. You are not a person of great renown on your planet, therefore we have nothing to fear at present. We have a purpose for being here and we will be here for some time yet. We must not be disturbed in our ultimate goal.
As you see us here, we are not in our natural form. We have found it necessary to take on the look of your people while we are here. This is mainly used as a means of returning here without being detected by anyone. We have made numerous contacts with Earth by means of craft from our base, and
And at present we have craft hidden at a remote spot on your planet. We have found it necessary to go to great extremes at times to frighten off your earth people, and it has resulted in some deaths. We also found it necessary to carry off earth people to use their bodies to disguise our own. We wish to keep in touch with you and tell you many things.
because one day you will write about this and we are certain that nobody will believe you but you will be much wiser than anyone else on your planet.
You will know what is out there in space, and you will know what the future holds for your mankind. You will see all three of us again. We will leave with you a small piece of metal similar to your coins. It is to be kept in a secret place of your own. We wish to have you come with us at a time to be announced to you soon. Thus was the gist of the message that was conveyed, and true to their promise, they did return to me.
So I guess you could say that they said a lot. Their message gets a little convoluted there. But you know, it's worth noting that in other interviews, Bender mentions that these beings would also appear at other times, sometimes in shadow form, and that they would sit at the end of his bed, just like the claims Megan's mother made. And if I'm honest, I'm seeing a lot of similarities. I just wonder if she too received messages like Bender did.
or if that's where this coincidence ends now perhaps there's no connection with bender here at all but the details were simply too similar not to bring up either way we thank you again megan for taking the time to share your mother's story and that's gonna do it for tonight folks stick around until after the final break for more monsters among us and the beyond but until then

Well, here is tonight's secret caller, Chelsea from Ohio. Welcome to the show.
Hi Derek, my name is Chelsea. I'm calling from Cincinnati. I'm calling in regards to season 16, episode 19. I believe it was a secret entry. The caller's name was Tony Woodruff. And he had called and told a story about how he went camping with his family and it was raining really hard. So they went inside and he was sitting at the table and he saw a giant eyeball in the window. He said it opened, it looked around, it blinked a few times, it closed and then it vanished. And
And the reason I'm calling is because back in the day, there was an episode of Sightings about that very same thing. I don't remember too much about the episode. I just remember there was a family being terrorized by this giant eyeball. They would open their window and it would be in the window. They would open the front door and it would be, you know, at the front door. I tried to find the episode myself, but I couldn't.
But I thought if you guys could find it and maybe play a snippet of the episode, maybe it would shed some light on what this guy saw. All right. Keep up the great work. Love the show. Thanks. Bye. Thank you, Chelsea. Well, you know I like to get weird here with the secret entry. And a giant eyeball looking into your window certainly fits that bill. Now, I'm a huge fan of the old TV series sightings, and I've seen every episode at least once.
most of them recently actually, as they're all now listed on YouTube. But I don't remember ever hearing this story, which is why I'm sharing this now. I need answers. So perhaps someone out there listening knows exactly what Chelsea is referring to and possibly can send me a link. If so, rattle my chain and I'll revisit all this later on. Until then, thanks again Chelsea for calling in.

out of the state of Arkansas. Hi Derek, this is Helen from Arkansas. I recently had an experience in August at my brother's new home he purchased on a lake. We
We went over to the lake, and what's interesting is he bought the house from an older gentleman who had lived there for many years. His wife had died there in the house, and when he went over after closing, he
And they walked into the house. Literally, the gentleman had left the house, like, walked out. Everything that they owned was there. And so, of course, they were very surprised, and it took them several days to clean out the house. So him and his girlfriend were there, and she was in.
