Taiwanese Shogi Player Wins International Title
Have you ever played the game "Shogi" (日本將棋)?
Shogi is a Japanese board game (桌遊) for two players.
It's a lot like the game of chess, where both players move pieces to defeat their opponent's army.
And this year's International Shogi Tournament (日本國際將棋大賽) has been won by a 16-year-old Taiwanese boy!
His name is Chang Ching-ting (張京鼎), and he won first place, in the tournament of 38 players from 35 different countries.
And after he won, he was able to play one more match (再比一場) against one of Japan's best players.
Chang (張) did not win that match, but he said it was an honor (光榮) to have that chance.
And that's not all…
Chang says he was inspired to learn the game Shogi after he saw it in Japanese comic books.
And he taught himself to play it just by watching YouTube videos!
Then, he and his friends started a club (社團) to play Shogi together in a cafe every Saturday.
Chang says he tries to learn from the playstyle (風格) of his favorite Japanese player.
And he hopes he can one day be good enough to play a match against that player.
So, whether you like board games or not, remember that this Taiwanese Shogi champion learned to play all on his own.
If you can't learn something in school, there are always other places to look!
James Webb Space Telescope Prepares For Launch
Scientists all over the world use telescopes (天文望遠鏡) in very dark places, where they can see all the stars in the sky.
Most telescopes are on Earth, but there are also some in space.
And one of the most famous space telescopes is called the Hubble Space Telescope
This space telescope has been orbiting Earth for 31 years, helping us to see the furthest stars in the sky.
But it's about time for an improvement (進步)…
And scientists are getting ready to send up the next one!
It's called the James Webb Space Telescope
It will be able to see even further into space, with a lens (鏡頭) almost three times bigger than the last one!
Scientists say it will let us see the light of the first stars of the universe, from around 13.5 billion years ago.
And it hasn't been an easy project (計畫).
Engineers have been developing (發展) this telescope for more than 30 years.
And it has cost almost 10 billion U.S. dollars
Scientists plan to launch it into space (發射進入太空) on December 18th of this year.
And soon after, we will have even better pictures of the world outside of Earth.
So, where should we look next?
