Podcast P fan, welcome back to another episode of Podcast P, a wave original presented to you by PrizePix. It's your boy PG-8. Joining with me is the homie Dallas Rutherford. There we go. Introduce first. Keep it going. And gotta say the best for last, Jackie Lone.
I like that, B. I like that. I like that. Did we do that right? I like it a lot better. You usually do that at the end. You usually do that at the end, monkey. Okay, but it was just so perfect because you know it was perfect. You said to, you know, say the best for last. You did. Okay, say less. Say less. Let's jump right into this, man. God!
It's a lot of shit. A lot of shit went down this weekend. You goddamn scared me right now. I didn't know, bro. I didn't know what happened. I can tell. A lot of shit went down, fellas. A lot of shit. Yes, it has. Yes, it has. First of all, I got to check in with y'all, man, because I scared y'all. How y'all doing, man? How y'all feeling? Dal, how we feeling, bro?
Living good. Monday, had a good day of work, and I've just been following along all the news in the NBA, and we got to talk about it. So here we are today. Got to talk about it. Got to talk about it. Monkey, I know you're a little...
You're a little older. You getting all the news? Well, I've been getting the news. You've been getting the news? I've still been going back and forth to Altadena and Pasadena doing that and still getting the news on my phones and everything. You dig? Come on. Come on. You still collect newspapers? Do I? It's so funny. My uncle used to make me read a newspaper, like a page every day.
to do something. Like literally, every day I used to have to read the newspaper. What'd he say? Lil Snake, go get a newspaper. I got to tell him something about it. Something that I read. I got to tell him about it. P, how you feeling? How's the pinky? Pinky's getting a little better, man.
Man, the pinky's getting a little bit better. I'm trying to put, you know, some reps in there. I'm trying to hoop. I'm trying to play through it and get a feel for it, bro. Imagine playing basketball with like your pinkies in the air. That's what I'm trying to deal with. Like shooting, shooting is fine, right? Cause I don't, this is my guide hand.
But imagine going left and having a dribble with that pinky just floating in the air. You got to watch a Kobe Bryant tutorial. It's not like usually a jammed finger, like you can still bend it, right? It's not a problem with bending it. You taping it, you know, just so it can, you don't re-jam it, but you can still bend it.
Like, I can't bend my finger, like, at all. So, you know, trying to dribble, it's like a hard cast on your finger. And you need your hand for touch and feel. Then you can't run through picks and stuff. Can we see it, P? It's actually like a cast, like a mini cast.
Yeah, it's like a mini little cast, like a little hard cast. It's like a mini cast. Okay. Okay. Well, good, good. But let's get into the show, man. Let's get into the show. We will. And you know what time it is. It's time for our three-man weave presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. Let's go, Sports Bar.
So guys, this is probably one of the most wildest trades that we have ever seen in NBA history. It seemed like it came out of nowhere. And it was so crazy that people actually thought that Sham's phone was hacked.
and you guys saw the news Luka Doncic is heading to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Lakers traded away Anthony Davis and he's heading over to the Dallas Mavericks what was your first reaction P when you heard the news oh man I mean I think I was the same as everybody else I think I think you texted the group chat in this life oh my gosh or something like that and I woke up to that and so I'm like alright what the fuck happened
So then I looked on Instagram, sure enough, Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis trade. And I mean, still, I'm like, all right, that's no way. Like they just went to the finals last year. He's a walking triple double with 30 points a night. Like he's a perennial superstar. Like he'll be in this league producing for a very long time. He's only 25. No way.
organization trades away a franchise player like that a one of a kind diamond in the rough and it happened I guess it happened I guess you know it's fair for everyone to think they're you know anything happened like anybody's tradable you know what I mean that was crazy for the longest I mean I thought Wimby and Luca was probably the two most untradable players in the league yeah
Guess not. There was a funny quote, P, that Mark Cuban, that they kept pulling up after the trade, that it was like, if you force me to make a decision on trading Luca or divorcing my wife, that you'll catch me at the court filing my paperwork for divorce.
For the divorce. So this, you know, it's kind of crazy. He's not the owner. I think I was telling you that, or we were talking about that the other day as well, too, that he's not the, you know, full owner. I think he owns like 27% of the team now. So I don't think he had a...
and what took place. But, Jackie, I'm curious what your thoughts were when you saw the news coming from a Laker fan. Well, first, I thought, honestly, with him being 25 and, you know, we never had like a European person that been a star in a big franchise like the Lakers before.
And I know a lot of people talk about Lucas defense and everything, but that's something being at 25, you got more than enough time to learn something where you're, you're able to play defense. So I looked at it, honestly, like,
The Lakers are trying to rebuild because they know LeBron, not to say anything. He's a beyond great player, but he's 40 years old and not to say anything about Anthony Davis leaving. Anthony Davis is a great player. Been playing great this season, not really getting injured, but it's time to rebuild. You know what I'm saying? Those dudes are older and they got to go. And I know that,
It's a lot of the defense question, but I just look at it with him being 25 and just the whole Kobe story that he has when they always say Kobe didn't go out to see nobody play. They done told stories on our show about how Kobe went to go see Luka. And I just think it's a lot to do with that and just Luka wanting to always play with LeBron or LeBron wanting to play with Luka. And LeBron is about to be out of here soon. So I just think it's something that –
that we have that we still have a star that's just as big as LeBron James. So I just think it's one of the greatest things, honestly,
As the trade go down, because it was definitely unexpected. And I understand what y'all was saying. They just went to the championship last year and this and that. And I look, Anthony Davis is not in a bad situation. He's with Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson. So, you know, he didn't go somewhere. It was like, oh, they just threw him over there and he's somewhere bad. But I just look at both situations. The Lakers got to rebuild, you know, just because we got Luca doesn't mean nothing.
But I just think Anthony Davis is in a great situation, and I think Lucas is going to be in a better situation just when the team is starting to build around him. So I was shocked, but I was happy. You know what –
You know what, Bunky? Hey, that was solid. Like a good little take. That was good. And we'll be right back to you guys after the show. That was your best take right there. You know what, Bunky? You're absolutely right. I think in this situation, it's a win-win for both organizations. I think when you look at the Mavericks getting AD, yeah, AD is a little older in age, but he's still producing at a high level.
And now you're getting the AD that...
that's asking for this four spot where he feels most comfortable and most dominant. You still have Gafford there that plays the five. You got Clay Thompson as the shooter to stretch the floor. You got Kyrie at the point, you know, that Mavericks team still, you know, can't compete. Like they, that is a pretty good team. When you look on paper with, they have size, they have skill, they have shooting, they have playmaking. And, you know, I think what Mavericks did, they were looking for,
you know, a win now situation. It's hard to kind of look at it that way when they almost won last season. But, you know, I think, you know, the idea behind it is not that bad of an idea. I mean, it's crazy to think, though, that, you know, Lucas, 25 years old and he has a ton of basketball left in him. And, you know, usually when you find a player like that, you keep them like you make it.
you make it a decision that, you know, that player is going to retire here and spend the rest of his career here. It is crazy. Hey, they gave him up for a bag, a bag of peanuts though, bro. Damn, maybe not peanuts. Dude, he's 31 years old. Anthony Davis, when he's healthy, is one of the best players in the NBA. But compared to all these other trades that you see, Luca, 25 years old for a guy that isn't on the floor a whole lot. He's always got, he gets hurt often, but,
You could have got, I mean, look at some of these trades and what people are giving up for these stars. How did that happen? I do believe that like, if they really were to shop Luca around Dallas could have got anything they probably wanted. That was that. And again, AD is a great addition. He's not peanuts. That's a great addition, but they probably could have did something with more picks and maybe a younger player, but,
And, you know, I would multiple players like I would I would I would guess any organization. There's a couple of guys that's off that list that I think franchises wouldn't trade like Anthony Edwards or somebody like that, that a franchise wouldn't touch. But there's a lot of players on each roster that.
would have packaged something to get Luka Doncic to their team. It's fishy. And for no one to know about it. It's fishy. I don't get it, man. I still don't get it. You look at some of these trades, man, and you gave that player up for Anthony Davis, a first-round pick, and another player. It just, something seems odd. Something seems odd, but hey. You
You scratch my back, I scratch yours. Hey, is it crazy to think after that trade, though, LeBron is the only player left from that 2020 Lakers championship run? And I want to ask y'all, do y'all think the Lakers not keeping LeBron in the loop was a message to LeBron that they prepared, you know, a future without him? Absolutely. Absolutely.
Absolutely. I think they took a ton of pressure off Brown. When you look at it from what they did for this season for Brown, they took a ton of pressure off Brown. Brown doesn't have to create every possession. He doesn't have to put the team on his back. Every possession. He doesn't have to score every possession or play make every possession. Like the man is 40 years old and he's still triple doubling, but he, you know, it comes a point where he needs help. He needs, you know, someone to kind of take that over for him.
And so I think you look at it from that lens. And then when you look at it from a, you know, the big picture, we have a cornerstone piece where the Lakers, you know what I mean? We're the Lake show, you know, the most story franchise in NBA history with, you know, having stars and stars performing on a big stage. So, yeah.
You know, I think they look at it from a whole picture. We got our piece to set us up for the future. And like you say, LeBron finally will get a break, depending on how long he stay in the NBA, of course. But playing on that team, he's going to get a break now. Shit, LeBron just bought five more years. He got to do a spot up. Do you actually think that LeBron had no idea that that trade was coming? LeBron James. Yep. That's where I struggle with it. It's like I get it. Like you got to kind of protect LeBron.
LeBron, at least I think, because A, he's LeBron, and B, you know, he's got a good relationship with Anthony Davis. It's like, hey, we want to, like, kind of protect you from this so that there's no bad blood there. But I think LeBron 100%. My name Bennett.
I ain't in it. But hey, not just not just LeBron. Like Jason Kidd said that he had no clue. It seemed like this whole trade was done in the dark. This is how we can find out. Is Rich Paul his agent? I just that's just I've never heard deals being done that way. You know what I mean? Like.
Shout out to those front offices for being able to work together and do something with that magnitude and for it to stay, you know, quiet, radio quiet. Shout out to them for making that happen. I just never heard deals being done with that level of star power in the trade that it does not get leaked or leaked.
You know, from Jason Kidd's point of view, like your star superstar point guard, we think is best somewhere else. That conversation, I would feel if I'm the coach. What do you mean you're trading Luka? Like what? You know, I just but hey.
What's my name? Not just Jason Kidd, but also J.J. Redick. You know what I mean? He's got a lot of pressure over there in L.A. They've been building a little system, and now he's got Luka without Anthony Davis. It changes the team dynamic on both sides. What do you think the locker rooms are thinking about?
When a trade of that magnitude goes down. I think they looking around like. Who's next? What? Who's next? They just doing it like that. Did you see how they took Doug Christie? Everybody refreshing their Instagram right now.
Let me see if I'm trading. Okay, my phone's out. I'm not in your trade. I'm still on the air. I'm still on the air. I'm still on the air. They playing 2K, updating the rosters. Did you see that? You probably didn't see it, but there was a trade analyzer on 2K and they did this trade and no way they got the CPU would not accept it.
So, like I said earlier, you know, speaking of Luka's defense, what everybody's been talking about, the Mavs have been vocal about Luka being out of shape and stressing how important defense is for them. So, despite the criticism, what are some things you think Luka should try to learn from LeBron and how do you see them actually fitting together with such similar, you know, play styles? I mean, that, again...
They just made the finals, bro. They just made the finals. At least run it back. You know what I mean? Just run it back. Y'all got shooting, which what y'all struggled against Boston. Y'all didn't have enough shooters. Y'all got Klay Thompson there. At least run it back. If it didn't work this season...
Then, all right, we, sorry, but, you know, I think, you know, what I think Luca can learn from Bron obviously is taking care of your body. Bron is the poster child, you know, when it comes to doing it the right way, taking care of your body, putting, you know, money behind taking care of your body, preparation, like he can learn how to really become a professional owner.
on this level. You know, I know it's different in the Euro league and, and, you know, guys that come from Europe, you know, you watch Jokic and, and, you know, you know how they spend their summers. I think, you know, they, they, they've been, you know, fortunate that they're really fucking good at this game.
And, you know, you look at, you know, again, somebody like Brown who puts a ton of hours in, you know, their body and staying in shape and treatment and working out. I think he can kind of learn that. And I think Brown will take him under his wing on that. There's a ton of ton of similarities with their play, with how they can create and dominate with the ball in their hands and, you know, make the right plays and decision every possession. So he'll he'll get a ton of that from being under bronze wing, just the IQ level and growing that part of it.
But, man, you know, it'll be scary when he puts it together and he's in shape and, you know...
I was actually watching highlights with my son today of his rookie season and just watching, you know, how much smaller he was, you know, his rookie year, you know, and to where he's at now. So, you know, I think the sky still is going to be the limit for, for Luca. I think he's going to be Luca magic in LA, which is scary, you know, in a good way because man, he's going to create and, and, and he's going to be a show in LA. 25 years old, man. He, oh my God. Yeah.
This is only the beginning. He's in a big franchise. Some of the reports that came out, I think one that stuck out to me was the response that his dad actually got like on a talk show and said that Luca didn't deserve this. I think another report said that he had just bought a $15 million home there in Dallas.
and was sad about this trade. How do you balance being a human and having those emotions and at the same time almost having it like being a big boy and putting your big boy pants on because the last thing you want is all these L.A. fans that are super excited for you to be here in L.A.,
to see you pouting about you leaving, you know, Dallas and vice versa. Same with Anthony Davis. He posted that video and I'm going to have to be honest. That video did not look like he was excited to be in Dallas, but you have to, as a professional, it's a business, those fans you've been traded before. How do these guys deal with this emotionally? Well, this one is different, bro. Cause this is unknowingly unknowingly.
Unknowingly. I mean, I've been traded, but I asked for a trade. Right. So like I was expecting to be in a new situation and was mentally prepared to leave the old situation.
These dudes, man, they didn't know they're being moved. Right. So like, you know, you putting your body and soul and everything into this organization. And then, hey, by the way, we think, you know, you're not best fitted here. We're going to move you somewhere else. And then, you know, now you like he's been in L.A. He's played on the West Coast. He's had battles against Dallas like that.
You know, the league is not the 80s where there's, you know, feuds and blood, you know, bloodbath between teams. But like, you know, this is a franchise that I competed against, you know, for my whole year, my whole career. So like you just up and go into this new situation and, you know, now you have to readjust yourself.
And, you know, learn a new system, learn a new state all on the fly. It takes a long time to when you get traded in the offseason. It takes you a good little minute to get adjusted, you know, before season starts. Now have to pick up everything on the fly while season is halfway in the middle.
It is a little rough. It is a little tough, but you know, they're, they're, they're professional. So, you know, they ain't the first and they won't be the last. Well, I want to talk about some more extremely unexpected trades. That was the craziest trades in the history of,
So with that said, we know about the Luka and AD trade. You know what I'm saying? I want to ask y'all fellas, what ranks amongst the craziest NBA trades ever? So with that said, Luka to Lakers, Kareem to Lakers, Shaq to Miami.
And Melo to New York. What does that rank? Yep. Well, I don't, I don't, who did Kareem? That's past our time. I don't think that. I don't know what, what came back from that trade. Like who got what out of that trade for Kareem? Who got what out of that trade for Shaq?
Some of the most shocking trades. Pete, your trade was kind of a big deal. That was a huge deal when you got traded to the Clippers. I think of Kyrie to Boston. That was a big trade. I like the Shaq Miami one. I remember that one being a big one. Even Kawhi to Toronto came as a shock, especially for DeRozan. You know what I mean? That was a shock when I read that one. Laker fans, we're kind of used to a lot of trades happening. So,
But this one is a little different. I think that one has to be one of the most shocking ones. Just because, again, it's a young superstar. You don't trade away young. Like, that doesn't happen too often. A young superstar gets traded away. Not even, like, he's before his prime right now. Like, he's...
He ain't even reached his prime yet. I tell you this, he went to a hell of a big franchise. Yeah, he belongs in L.A., there's no doubt, man. Oh, my God. I know he lost a ton of money not, you know, missing out on that Supermax deal and now being taxed in California, but he's going to get a lot of that back with movies, commercials. I don't know about movies, but commercials. He's funny. He's funny, dude. Endorsements. Yeah, he's fishing all sorts of stuff.
And at the end of the day, he going to bring a crowd out. Oh, for sure. For sure. Slovenia, stand up. Slovenia about to show up in L.A. The headlines just didn't end there, though. We also had De'Aaron Fox, who has just moved to San Antonio, that also sent Zach Levine to Sacramento. What do you think about that duo now for the San Antonio team?
Spurs, Wimby, Fox. I like it a lot. I like it. I like it. I like that, you know, De'Aaron Fox and...
When we get to team up, you know, I think De'Aaron Fox is incredible talent. Super, super talented. Now he has, you know, he has a unicorn. He has an alien out there with him, like a one-off one talent. That culture, San Antonio culture is a winning culture. And I think, you know, Sacramento has...
you know, outside of the DeMarcus Cousins days and, you know, the, the, the two or the, yeah, the two thousands early era with Weber and, and Bibi in that days, like,
Outside of that, Sacramento has been struggling for quite a bit to kind of find their identity and put something together. So, you know, I know they had a good run a couple of years ago, but, you know, now De'Aaron Fox has to be he gets a chance to be in a winning culture, winning system with unbelievable talent there. They're only going to get better. So it's it's it's a win, man. And then, you know, Zach Levine in Sacramento, him and DeMar get the team back up.
Be interested to see them with that team and how fast they play. They got another, you know, superstar or not superstar, but all-star caliber player, Demantis Sabonis there. That team is going to be really good and well-rounded with talent on the roster. So, you know, it's a win. I think all of those trades were wins. I think obviously great parity in the NBA.
Basketball is going to be popping. This got me thinking, though, Pete, for real, because you kind of mentioned it earlier when you said that you didn't think some people can, you know, get a car. They untouchable. You know what I'm saying? So we used to say that. So I'm asking, can we still say that after some trades like these? And if so, who are some of those names that you think? Untouchable. Well, Wimbinyama, untouchable. For sure. And?
Man, if Luka could get traded, man, I mean, Anthony Edwards, I feel is untouchable or should be untouchable. What about my boy? Oh, he's tradable. He's tradable. I mean, like I said, I mean, he's not tradable if Luka never got traded. That makes sense. But since Luka has been traded.
It's a different line, I think, that they crossed. Anybody's touchable at this point. Damn. I can't think of nobody else. And Bradley Bill. And Bradley Bill. I'm sick for that. Bradley Bill's untouchable. Shout out Brad, man. Shout out Brad. This message is brought to you by Apple Card. Apple Card is everything a credit card should be. I'm going to go more. That's a good pick. The next one is KD's been balling as usual. And his point projection on PrizeBix is at 26.5 points. You going more or less? That's KD. I'm going more.
Okay, Dallas, those are my picks now. We have another great matchup between the Spurs and the Hawks. I want to hear a couple of your picks from that game against Victor Rembamba is at 10.5 rebounds. More or less rebounds.
But a big dog. I got to go with Moore, Jackie. I just don't see a world in which he can't get 11 rebounds. He's going to get probably a 14 or 15. But okay. Okay. What about my boy Trey Young on 10.5 assists? More or less? This is a little bit more tough. And I love Trey, but only because it's not up to him. They got to make shots. I'm going to take less on 10.5 assists. Okay.

With all these trades, the landscape is really changing. And I think there's some years in the league, P, where trade deadline comes around and not much changes. Yeah, there's a few trades, obviously, and teams are trying to get ready for this playoff push. But some of these trades were like big swings where there's people moving on different conferences, all that other good stuff. But I was watching Kevin Garnett speaking on Jimmy Butler's situation.
And he said that his behavior could be opening the door to non-guaranteed contracts in the NBA, which is a crazy thought. But I kind of understood, you know, where KG was going with that. And I want to know, do you think that that could ever happen? NBA contracts, non-guaranteed. Man, I think nobody playing. Damn, I don't even want to put no energy behind that one. Yeah.
Ain't nobody playing. It will be crazy. I could see that all day.
come into that with, you know, especially, you know, stars that have been injured and not playing, you know, I think that'll be an incentive to get people to play through injuries, but I don't think that's healthy or good for the league. I don't know, bro. I don't even want to put no energy behind that. You know, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm down for my brothers, man. You know, I think all sports, it's tough that the NFL is not guaranteed. I'm down for all my brothers out there, man. That,
put their body on the line to, you know, play a sport. And I understand if you just not, you know, working on your game or something like that, you get paid and you, you know, you're not working on your game no more. I understand that.
But, you know, from an injury standpoint and, you know, injuries happen. That's unfortunate. But, you know, I hope all my dogs and my brothers, man, they get paid, man. It's brutal putting your body on the line every night. Facts. I hate to say this, P, but I think non-guaranteed like completely is a little out of the question. You know what I mean? That sounds ridiculous, but.
Some type of happy medium. Like a prorated? Yeah. I mean, you think about it just like anybody else, like at normal jobs, man, if you can't perform, you don't get paid, you know? And there's a limit on how long they'll give you that grace period or how much sick time you get or how much this time. And again, I know you guys are paid extremely well, but I think that there could be some wiggle room where those owners might have a case of like, hey, look, like,
I'm not saying it's going to be completely not guaranteed, but maybe like this is partially guaranteed based on these stipulations. I think that could be healthy to kind of combat, uh,
So my thing is, my thing is, too, though, right. Owners is getting paid well more than what players are getting paid. You know what I mean? They own the team. Yeah, that's their business. You go start your own team. Like, you know what I mean? Like, OK. And that's, you know, it's that's, you know, a team doing a research as well. I think when I came into the league, they wasn't just throwing out the bag.
Like I was when I first got my deal, I was nervous about it. Like, damn, I'm working my ass off. I'm putting, you know, I'm thinking like, damn, is this enough? Like, am I doing enough? Am I, you know, am I am I producing enough? Like, yeah.
It was a criteria. And it's not that something, this is not what I played for, but obviously, you know, you want to, to, to be able to provide for your family and you want to keep elevating and getting better and better and better and better. But it meant something like you, you, you deserved it when you got it. It hasn't been that same for a lot of the young guys in the league. I say right now is what 82 games a season.
To get your guaranteed contract, you got to at least play 60-some games.
If you can't play 60-some games, you ain't guaranteed that contract. Because what people is watching, regular people at the house, we understand you are friends. So we understand different. We get to see the world different of an NBA player who actually makes a lot of money. What happens on a regular job, right, and you get injured on the job? Well, it depends whose fault it was. Yeah, depending if it's...
Yeah, you can sue the company or if something happened, they put you on what is a relief or whatever it's called. If I'm working a job and I'm in the church league and I bust my knee and then now my knee. That has nothing to do with your job, though. That's what I'm saying. Like, so you're saying if you get hurt on the job, on the job. OK, but there's insurance for that.
And there's insurances where it's, you know, obviously you could sue. But I think that there's, from my understanding, there's insurances in place like where they do have to continue to pay you, but they don't continue to pay you your original contract, from my understanding. There's a limit on how long they're going to keep you.
And that's just is what it is type of thing. I've never had a job other than NBA. So yeah, I was trying to fill me in. So, so, so, so fill me in, please. Jackie, what do you think Paul's first contract was for? Just, just to, I'm just curious what Jackie will think his rookie contract.
He weighed with his height. He wouldn't. I don't know about three, four mil. With his height? Is that what he said? With my height or height? No, with your height that you got coming into them. So about three, four million? That sounds about right. Wasn't it, Pete? My rookie deal or my first contract? Like first big deal. What was your rookie contract? I think it was like eight, nine.
89 mil. Okay, I went too far. I want to rewind just a second, Pete, because you were alluding to the fact that they weren't giving the bag out back in the day. What was your point in mentioning that? Because I think there is an argument now with a lot of these guys that are young coming into the league and they are getting a large sum of money up front. You could make this argument against Luka. I've heard this argument against Zion that there's not as much incentive for them to
for instance, stay in better shape. Is there anything guys can do? Like it's almost like, can you blame them? But I want to know what you think about these guys getting their money outside of the fact that you want them to make money. What does that do to the game overall though? Great question. Great question. Cause it changes things. It does change things. And, and, you know, obviously I want the young guys to get paid. I'm not saying that. I do think that like, again, when I came into the league,
Obviously, times were different and the league wasn't generating that much money from the TV deals as we are now. So obviously, the money wasn't there, right? So my first deal was like 90 mil. I think now it's like dudes are getting 250 or 220 or something like that. You know what I mean? So the money is definitely different after that first deal. And then now they're set up for...
300 after that or 250 after that. It just keeps going up, up and up. But my point was to say that I just felt you watch the guys before you and it was like, that's what I'm working hard for. I'm working to...
you know, continue to, to, to better myself. You know, I'm, I'm not playing for a contract, but obviously I know what's in the cards if I produce. And it was criteria as you had to meet, you had to reach, you know what I mean? You had to make all NBA, you had to make a all-star games, you know, it was incentives for MVP. Like it was stuff that was labeled in there that would give you the right for that amount of money. I think that's where it's kind of lost now.
With the guys being paid that kind of money. Because the people before you, they weren't getting the bag like the people getting the day at all. And they was playing...
Times is different. Times is different. I was going to say that's no knock on someone like Luca or Zahn, because to be honest, bro, I think 99% of people, you know, if someone just 25 X my salary out of the blue to do the same thing that I've been doing, I think it's just human nature. Unfortunately, when you're talking that kind of, that kind of money that you guys are getting paid, most people I don't think would have the same drive anymore.
So anyways, good combo. Well, speaking of changes, we're going to change it up a little bit, man. And we got to talk about this because I've been because it's how it got me upset. This damn all star voting. OK, because I seen a lot of names left off the list.
That should have been there. Y'all know, one, who I'm talking about. Well, two, who I'm talking about. Because one of them is a friend of the show. He done been up here. Tyrese Maxey. Okay. LaMelo Ball. My favorite. Oh, and another one. My boy, Trey Young. He done been up here, too. And I'm even most shocked Sabonis didn't even make it. So what changes need to happen with this damn voting system, P? Because it's stupid now. I don't even want to watch the All-Star.
I don't. Obviously, Trey and all of those guys are worthy, right? LaMelo, Trey, Tyrese, Sabonis, you know, Tyrese has been playing his ass off, like balling out of his mind. He was well-deserved of a playoff spot.
But I do think you should reward the guys that are putting up stats on winning teams. It's unfortunate that we couldn't be in a better position for Tyrese to get his all-star nod because he is playing at an all-star level and should have been an all-star, no doubt about it.
But when you look at the guys that did make it, they've been rewarded because of the record that they have. And they're putting up stats. You know what I mean? Like they are putting up stats as well. And they're getting a nod because of what their, you know, what their record is. You know, so I think that is the incentive when it when you when you're comparing it. So many there's so much talent. But when you got to compare who should make it and who shouldn't, it comes down to like, all right, well, who's who?
in playoff spots right now and who's not. And that's kind of just how they do the voting system. So the voting system, because I've seen things going around where it says LaMelo was first in voting points. Yeah, I don't understand how LaMelo didn't. He won voting. He won the fan voting, I think.
Which is for a starting spot. That's where I was confused. So if he won that, then he should have been a starter. That's what I don't get. Like, you're going to let that young, exciting player who got all the kids involved in his whole shit and you don't let him go to the All-Star? I can understand anybody else, whatever, but I'm just saying, LaMelo, the kids all love him. And that's what basketball is supposed to be for the kids, man. And...
I just, that just don't make sense. You see Jordan pool. Jackie said that he was disappointed. He wasn't an all-star with an eight and 41.
That's hilarious. Someone that we didn't mention, P, that I think we should give a quick shout out that I think should have been an all-star and people are going to be like, oh, this other team. Norman Powell, man. He was an all-star this year and he is on a winning team. The Clippers are overperforming. Most people, including myself, did not think the Clippers were going to be where they're at. Yeah.
Right now, after the trade and and the best part that and why I love Norm so much is how he's handled that. All the interviews I've seen him like, hey, it was a goal of mine, but I'm still working on, you know, I'm going to move on to my other goal. He's just a true professional. And I think he deserved it this year. A hundred percent. A hundred percent. I think he put he put a hell of a season together so far up to this point.
I had him down as an all-star, you know, I had him down as an all-star. I thought he did enough, especially where the Clippers are at him, holding it down, him being super efficient with the numbers that he's putting up as well. I thought it could have went either or, you know what I mean? They went with James. James is a leader of the group.
They went with James. Hey, Uno is an all-star. I don't think that. Absolutely. Absolutely. I don't think Clippers put two in. You know what I mean? Being a sixth seed or fifth seed or whatever, I don't think Clippers put two in. One of them had to get in. And obviously, Uno is the leader of the group. So, went with Uno. But Norm was very deserving of an all-star nod this year. I'm in shock to see Uno, though.
I knew somebody was going to make it. Hey, his shoes, those are church league specials. Can we get another pair of Dallas? I'll work on it, okay? Okay, thank you, thank you. These stats though, what if there was an NBA player who was leading the league in rebounds? A player that was leading the league in double-doubles? A player that is second in three-point percentage? Damn, he putting up numbers. Who this? Third!
And triple doubles. This is your boy Sabonis over on the Kings. This one is a little iffy. With those types of stats, I'm surprised that he is not an all-star this year. This is low-key his best season of his whole career. Let's take a look at the West. They're 10th right now. They're 10th right now. Let's see. You have Anthony Davis. You have Jaron Jackson.
You have Victor Wimbinyama. You have Alperen Singun. Now, when I tell you about where ranks, where guys rank at or teams rank at, right? What is SAC at? 10th. And what is the Rockets at? 3rd. Okay. So he's getting in.
Where is the Spurs at? Spurs is at 12. The NBA is not going to not put Wiminyama in the All-Star game. See, that's the issue, I think, right there. I think it's just the consistency. Back to kind of like, not to lose topic, but like MVP voting. Like, what is the criteria in order to being an All-Star? I saw this one, Pete, unpopular opinion. Where are the Golden State Warriors right now in the West? They are not sure. They are 11th.
And I know this sounds crazy, but I think you could make the argument, why is Steph Curry an all-star this year? Is it just because it's Steph Curry and the NBA is going to do that? They're 11th. Yeah, that's fan voting. But damn! LaMelo! You're right. That's crazy. There's got to be some consistency. Yeah, you're absolutely right. That is a good counter to...
My reasoning. That's a great counter to my reasoning. I don't know. Let's let's hold on. Let me let me get Adam Silver in here. Call your boy in the world. New generation. That's called clocking your tea. Yeah.
Let me get Adam in here. Let's see what's going on over there. I'm learning. I'm learning. I'm learning. Look, I think the fans have the hardest time giving players the respect they deserve, P. Like, for instance, Kawhi. After everything that man did for San Antonio, this dude, for some reason, still gets booed every time he returns.
P, can you please explain why does that still happen to that man? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I didn't watch that game. They booed him again. They booed him again in San Antonio. They booed him. I don't know, man. You know, the guy won a championship. He had a finals MVP, an all-star defensive player of the year. Like, he's done a lot in that organization, for that organization. Yeah.
He's one of your own. You know what I mean? Y'all made him and y'all watched him grow up. And if he decided it's not personal between y'all, like you and the fans, it was between him and the front office and the coaching. From my understanding, I'm not sure, you know, where that line was or where it went sour at, but yeah.
It had nothing to do with the fans. You know what I mean? So that goes to our rule, right? Like when a player wants to go somewhere they think is a better fit for them,
Then it's a problem that the player wanted to leave. But you had a situation where Luca gets traded, AD gets traded unknowingly, and there's no blame on the organization. You know what I mean? What if Luca comes into Dallas and middle fingers, you know, every time he scores or every time he makes a three, you know what I mean? Like, is he right for that?
No, you got to let that shit die, man. You got to let that shit go. It's crazy. It's crazy. I understand fans and your fandomonium and your love for your team and your city, but
But if it's one of yours, man, and they did great things, I can understand if he didn't do things and he trashed the organization and said nasty things about the fans. Facts. All right. F you. Like, we coming for you. Exactly. He did what he thought was best for him. He won there. He did special things there. He wanted to move on. Let the man move on. I think that regardless of the boos, I would imagine that most of those boos come from a
a good place, if that's possible to understand. Absolutely. It's hurt. That's what makes sports sports is just, you know, hey, you're not with us anymore. Like, we're going to boo you. But deep down, they know. They know. It's all good. Hey, did you see Katie and Gary Payton going at it, trash talking during the game? I saw that. That was funny. I loved it. If I'm in the ceiling, I'm...
the Raptors, like something like that. Gary was really trying to like, that was the funniest part was like,
Like, he's not in the front row. He's like four rows back. So, like, they're definitely – That was two uncles right there, man. That was two uncles getting into it. And KD gets into it with everybody. Have you ever got into it with an old head like that, Pete? Not on that level. But me and Tim Hardaway, obviously, we played Detroit and, you know, junior. Tim Hardaway, junior, plays for Detroit. So, you know, senior was at the game. And I think I fouled.
Fouled or I got called for a foul and I forget what happened, but we were drawing back and forth a little bit, but it wasn't on some trash talking like that. But we were, you know, talking, you know, we were chirping a little bit, but it was it was same context of Katie and GP. It was like, you know, all respect and love, but we was drawing back and forth a little bit.
And but I ain't never been in like no heated, you know, heated trash talking with an OG. You know, I respect OGs. You know, obviously, KD respects Gary Payton. But hey, man, at the same time, you got to protect, you know, your, your, your, you know, your what you've created. You got to protect your entity entity as well. So somebody coming for you.
You got to pop out and show niggas. Ironically, Jackie, that we've talked about the Netflix starting five. And I believe that in an interview, KD said that, hey, I was mic'd up for that. So we're actually instead of just getting the audio that people just kind of do through Instagram, KD was actually mic'd up that whole time. So we'll be able to watch it on Netflix when it comes out. I can't wait. I can't wait. You think they planted that?
Oh, you should have told me that. They probably planted Gary. As you know, Gary go, hey, wait a second. Boy, you know I want to teach you something, boy. Boy, you need to pray for my team, boy. Yeah, you go. You got drafted to the Sonics after me. You're going to see the motherfuckers in the back behind Gary with the little boomstick like.
They say Gary about to go coach Seattle Supersonics again when they come back. Gary ain't about to do nothing. That's funny. The KD played for Seattle Supersonics too, right? Started there. So did. Good shit, Dale. That is a wrap on a three-man weave. Monkey, this has been a great one so far, but I know you got some good shit for us too. What you got for the two-minute report, Bongbong? What you got?
Come on, man. So on this week's two-minute report, fellas, I'm going to make it easy and simple for y'all, baby, because it's just what it is. What are your Super Bowl predictions for this Sunday? Come on. You go first, Dallas. This is a tough one, Jackie, because I got family from Kansas City, and I thought that that last game against the Bills was
I thought there was some very questionable calls. I'm a believer of the NFL wanted the Chiefs to get there. And I just think you can't bet against the Chiefs. Someone's got to take them out. And I'm going with Kansas City winning another one. What score predictions? You got score predictions? Score predictions. I'm going to go 24 to 31.
24-31. Okay, say less. Say less. Okay, you go, Pete. Your turn. You know, obviously, love on both sides. Shout out both sides making it to the Super Bowl. Obviously, I'm in Philly. I got to represent Philly. Got to go with the, you know, the homies that represents the same city. Shout out Slay. Shout out the homie Slay. Doody! Doody! Doody! We be getting doves with Slay, man. Shout out Slay.
I got to go with the Eagles, man. Saquon's been a problem. I would love to see Jalen Hurts win a championship. I think it would be great for the city, man. They ready for it. They ready for this win. But I'm excited to watch a good game. In all of it, though, I'm going to go...
I'm going to say Eagles score 31. Kansas City scores 21. Okay, 10 points. 31-21. I'm going to be like you definitely, P, because I definitely just want to hear up and get Gilly the Kid out of my head.
with his dance. I just want to hurry up so they can win and get it over with. I go on and on. Can't understand how it lasts so long. I must have superpowers. Just to clarify, just to clarify, I want the Eagles to win. But if I think that the Chiefs are going to win it still. You picked the Chiefs. I know. I think they're going to win it still.
I would love for them to finally get a Super Bowl because Jalen Hurts, I think at this point in his career, because football players careers are very short. I think this is a year. I think he take them all the way. And just with the previous stuff that Saquon went through when he was with the Giants with the injuries and now he's,
at a high level in his career. I think it's just perfect for these dudes with A.J. Brown out there alone and our boy Slay. I just think it's somebody about to shut our boy down this year, Mr. Patrick McHolmes and the Kelsey dude. So I'm eager. That's crazy from a Cowboys fan, ain't it?
Hey, well, it is. We lose against the Chiefs, too. It don't matter. A lot of positive things about them Eagles over there, Jackie. Hey, I just want to air up and get it over with, man. I just want to get it over with. It's going to be a good game. So they can get theirs. That's it. Listen, Philly, we riding for y'all this weekend. Best of luck to our Eagles. Shout out to my dog, Darius Slate Jr. We wishing for y'all to get that win, bro. I'm on a roll with the Sixers this week, so no episodes this upcoming Monday. But we'll be right back on our regular schedule the following week. Peace.
Chava daba twee twee twee. Chava daba twee twee twee.
