BBC Radio 1. Hello and welcome to Friday's Radio 1 All Day Breakfast podcast. This is Greg James with the best bits of today's show and it featured Miley Cyrus. So let's get straight into that.

Breakfast. One. With Greg James. Miley, it's safe to say you've got some very stunned fans here and it's so, so great to chat to you. And congratulations on the record. I've heard it already and something beautiful is something beautiful and I am obsessed with Easy Lover. What a banger. Thank you so much. You know, when I...

Kind of get to surprise, you know, people. We've all grown up together, so there's a little bit of like an emotional, I think, attachment and like connection between me when I get to meet people, even though now it's virtually that we've kind of grown up together. So it's a unique introduction because I think all of us really feel like we kind of already connected and know each other in some way. So even though it can feel shocking, you know, what a surprise.

And you did not give any, like, gracious warning in any way. You know, obviously very thankful that you've kind of followed me throughout such a long part of both of our lives. So with the album, I'm really excited about Easy Lover just because the response is already really exciting. Well, look, this is a room full of radio nerds who just, we love how big pop songs sound on the radio. And Easy Lover, let me tell you. So do I.

Sounds enormous. You can always tell, I think, how a song is going to just resonate with people when you hear it on the radio for the first time. I think that's probably because when I was growing up, that was the only way that I would get introduced to new music. So I really grew up listening to radio in a way of that it was my only way

my only kind of invitation to new music. So it's still a very powerful tool, I think, in getting to listen to something that you wouldn't maybe be introduced to without the spontaneity of it coming on the radio. We agree, don't we? Yeah. 100%. I would love to get an insight into when you first sort of saw Miley, heard a song, like what were your first early interactions with Miley's music or Miley as a being? Hannah,

Hannah Montana the movie was my first DVD I got and I have listened to that soundtrack for years and years and years.

That's amazing. And, you know, I love listening to you say that it was your DVD. That's what I was saying about the way that I grew up. We experienced, I think, you know, music and film and TV in such a different way than are the kind of the next generation. And so for me, it was like when kids used to still go right into the movie theaters. It was the only way that you're going to see this. That wasn't like today where you can have everything now.

And so there was a lot of anticipation for things. You would be excited. I would be excited. I could actually go and meet my fans. And so that was why I did something beautiful this way, by creating a theatrical experience, because I wanted to bring back

that community of like fandoms because even though we kind of have this fan culture online, it's not the same as getting in a room with people that have this common love and common interest, which I never want to get erased in the time of technology where we have this convenience of talking from afar. I want to encourage my fans to get close in person again. We're getting a lot of nodding heads in the studio with that. A lot of people agreeing with that. So it's going to be in cinemas and I want you to...

I want you to tell us what you were imagining in terms of fans. What are they wearing? What are they doing? Are we allowed to sing? In every one of my visions of how this plays full out, it's always with the fans being able to sing along to these songs, getting up and dancing in the aisles. I've never been one to keep myself or anyone quiet or polite. And because...

touring is just so complicated for me that this is my way of kind of creating that tour-like experience. So absolutely, you're meant to sing and you're meant to feel like you're fully involved. Do we have a special Miley Cyrus popcorn bucket? And the second question is, like the Minecraft movies, is there a moment where we throw the popcorn up? Chicken jockey. I know about chicken jockey. Okay, so is there a chicken jockey song on this record? Not the actual song, but is there? I mean, I'll say that...

It's every time I wear a sickening outfit, but that'll never stop. So maybe that shouldn't be the case. So what you mean is it's constant popcorn snow throughout the whole show? Pretty much. Okay. Because it's not a real concert, that could be kind of like our pyro, I guess. Okay, so it's a bring your own pyro slash popcorn event is what we're saying. Yes. Yes.

I haven't said congratulations on the Grammy, Miley. Thank you. Thank you very much. We played this clip when it happened. We played this so much. Loved that.

Thank you. And it's one of those things I couldn't have rehearsed because I didn't know it was actually going to happen. And so it was nice just to kind of like literally let my hair down in that moment and just enjoy the moment for what it was, which was the ultimate celebration. Miley, thanks so much for being on the show today. Before we let you go, can you we've got some amazing young people in the studio today who are just about to embark on their grown up lives. Do you have any words of wisdom for these people that have followed you for a long time and have looked up to you?

I would say that even though you're, you know, feeling like you're fully grown up, never stop learning like you're a kid. Always be just as interested, you know, at 50 as you were at five years old. There's always something to discover and to be excited about. And if there's something that you're doing that you fall out of,

out of love with that maybe you once really enjoyed. Don't hold yourself to what you used to be or what you used to love. That finding new love all the time is just the most exciting part about being alive. So even though if you work really hard at something and you decide that it's not ultimately how you want to spend your days, throw it away and don't be afraid to start something new.

Beautifully said, Miley. So brilliantly said. Mic drop. Any final thoughts from you guys? Phoebe's crying. We've got tears, Miley. I used to go to my grandparents' house like four times a week and every night before dinner, we'd have to watch the Hannah Montana movie.

So my nan and grandma are actually huge fans of you as well. But you are honest, you're so incredible. And this is really crazy. And also your families are all going to be like, why did you tell my kids to throw away their... That's not exactly what I mean, but I think a lot of people feel that, you know, because they put in a certain amount of time to something...

there's no getting out of it or otherwise they've wasted time. And I just don't think there's any such thing as wasted time. Anything that you, you know, put your hours into will always lead you into something else. That is what is your ultimate potential. So never stop changing and don't be afraid to throw things away. Miley. Thank you. And, um, uh, thank you again. As we think, as we were talking, I was just thinking, I don't think that I'd still be on radio one if it wasn't for you, uh,

validating the video that I did of wrecking ball. Oh, I remember that. I wouldn't give you that much credit, but yeah, I really would. That was like, that was the first thing that people noticed when they were like, Oh, Miley's said that this guy being naked on the wrecking ball is fun. So I don't think I genuinely don't think I'd be here without you. Works every time. I think it solidified both of our careers. So that's good.

Miley, we love you and good luck with the album and we will see you very soon and we will come to the cinema in our droves and we will do Popcorn Snow and all the rest of it and we will catch up with you very soon. All right. Bye, everyone. Thank you. Thanks so much. Cheers. Radio One Breakfast with Greg James. Elsewhere, we had rungans, we had a final of yesterday's quiz, we got you up to date with all the latest things and now we...

fulfil a promise that we made on the show today which was to show Susanna who works on the show the Wrecking Ball parody video I think actually come around here and watch it with me Radio One's All Day Breakfast with Great James Okay do you want to hit play? Do I? I don't know It does start with a horrifying close up I will tell you that You look beautiful Thank you

Who did your makeup? It was my producer at the time, Pippa. Oh, you're in it. I cried. Yeah, you're crying. You don't have her exact haircut. Deliberately. Ha ha ha ha.

Oh my God, have you done the tattoos? Tattoos, yeah. Oh, wow. Lip syncing's quite good. Yeah. So that's an actual... An actual wrecking ball. I drove everyone to Kent. Oh. I was dressed like that as well in the driver's seat. You're really writhing. Writhing around. There it is. There it is. Oh!

Oh no! Don't say "oh no"! There we go, there it is! Oh my god, I didn't think he'd really be naked! Oh yeah. Wow. Wow.

I forgot that shot. Oh, oh. And then it was just... Oh, my God. This guy. And there was a guy doing the... On the digger who was swinging it round. Sort of swinging the ball round. Swinging it around. Swinging the beckon ball. That makes two of you. I had to use... You know Travis? Yes.

I had to wear his sock on there. But apart from that, I was completely naked. Did you give it back after? No, I kept it. There you go. What do you think? Can you look at me in the eye? Yeah. Okay. I think we're good. Are you okay? No, I don't think I'm okay. I feel quite weird. I think actually you should be really proud of yourself. Well, I sort of am. Because it's really, it's so good. It's really well done.

Your commitment to that bit is impressive. And look at where it's led you. Well, I did say that to Miley. I think it genuinely, I think I'm very grateful to her. I think you should feel good about that. People noticed it. I feel proud to be your friend. Thank you. That's all I needed. It happened again when Miley came in.

Oh my god! What are you doing naked? This is the studio. None of the kids should see you like this. What do you mean? You're a bitch. You okay? Yeah, I like your makeup. Anyway. That's amazing. Wait, you brought the wrecking ball into the studio? It was a replica, I think, yeah.

Crazy days. Crazy times. But I'm pleased that you didn't run screaming. This is... BBC Radio 1. Radio 1. Radio 1's All Day Breakfast. On with the Breakfast Show podcast and let's do yesterday's quiz. This is... BBC Radio 1. Ashley, good morning. Morning. Helen, good morning. Good morning.

Morning. This is going to be a fun final quiz today. We've been celebrating the Nesbra bed race, which is happening in a couple of weeks' time. The team are running it for Cancer Research UK. And Ashley, what a week for the quizzers. Two 16s as well. How have you found it all? It's caused a lot of drama in the quiz.

I've been getting told I had 12 all week and it's caused a lot of fights. Yeah, I've got to say, I did listen back to it and Dean didn't play the timer so gave you loads of extra time. But look, we're here now. You're captain, you're doing your amazing run for a great cause and we wanted to get you both on this morning. Marcus and Nat, I feel like we're fighting on their own little battle, weren't they, this week?

Yeah, it was definitely, you know, basically their fight. Never mind Helen and I, it was all down to them. We're just pleased that Nat won because Marcus is the most competitive guy on her. Yes, you could tell that. I feel like that might be something that the marriage, as a married couple, they need to work through together and privately maybe. But actually, we haven't really spoken this week because Dean McCulloch was doing the show on Monday, but it's been a brilliant week and I've loved finding out about the Nairnsborough bed race.

Oh, it is amazing, Greg. When I first moved down this way from Scotland and went to see it, it was just the most surreal experience of my life. So, yeah, brilliant to be a part of it. 16 points for you, Ashley. 16 points for you, Helen. Can you give us your song choice? What are we going to hear if you win today, Helen? So if I win today, it's going to be Aerosmith, Don't Want To Miss A Thing. And Ashley?

Well, originally I asked for the Proclaimers, but apparently you didn't have it. So we're having Faithless and Insomnia. Although now I just want Aerosmith. We didn't have the Proclaimers. Are you joking? But we've got Aerosmith. Apparently. That must be an administrative error. That was not my call. I mean, Proclaimers, what, 500 miles?

Yeah. That's one of my favourite songs of all time. But anyway. Well, it's a Friday morning banger. It is. Let's see how we get on on the final of the quiz. So it's either Aerosmith or it's Faithless. The Aerosmith shout is really unhinged, but in a great way. Radio One's All Day Breakfast. You're either going to hear Insomnia by Faithless or Aerosmith, I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. One of those will be the next song on Radio One. But which song?

It's Ashley versus Helen. 16 points apiece for the final. Final of yesterday's quiz is first to five. Ashley, as the captain, you get to go first. Them's the rules.

So here we go. If you get a clean sweep of five in a row, then you win. If Helen manages to sneak in, if you get one wrong, then we're going to hear Aerosmith, I don't want to miss a thing. I mean, she has a sneaky one, so I'm expecting it. It's been a sneaky week. Do we have some dingers? Yes, we do. Ashley, question number one. Luke Littler played Luke Humphries in the Darts Premier League final, but which Luke came out on top, Humphries or Littler?

Humphreys. It was Humphreys. Helen, Jack Draper beat Gael Monfils in the third round of the French Open. But how do you say hello in French? Bonjour. Oui. Ashley, who was on the quiz yesterday? Helen, what day was it yesterday? Thursday. It was. Ashley, question three. Scientists revealed birds nested in the Arctic during the age of dinosaurs. Give me your best impression of a chilly dinosaur. Very good. Helen.

Helen, a tiger from Yorkshire was recovering from ingrowing toenail surgery. Give me your best impression of a sore-pawed tiger. A northern tiger. Ashley? Butter. Butter. Lovely butter. Casting rumours for the next Avengers film leaked, but which cinematic universe is it part of?

Marvel. Marvel is correct. Oh, my gosh. Helen, it was reported the next Bond film is looking for a new director. But which actor most recently played James Bond? Oh, God, I can't remember. Daniel Craig. Daniel Craig is there. Ashley, it was National Alligator Day. Is an alligator a reptile or a mammal? A reptile. You're saying reptile.

That's the correct answer. You've won yesterday's quiz. Eat that, Helen. That's all right. I love your song, Ashley, so I don't mind that you won. Did you just say eat that, Helen? No, take that. Oh, right. Eat that, Helen. I mean, take that, Helen, is also very unfriendly. You've got to be gracious in your victory. Oh, right.

It's all... We love each other so much. She's one of my best friends in the world. It's very friendly competitiveness. I like it a lot. It's been a really fun week. Shall we get this song on? Faithless... I feel like... Do you not think Aerosmith would be better? Oh, I don't know. Come on, we can't do the quiz. I mean, what do you... Hang on a second.

I can't call what people want to hear more. Both classics, but in slightly different ways. Faithless or... Oh, God, I don't know. I don't know if I've got that in me today. I don't know. I don't know, I think we... Kellen, what do you think? Faithless? Well, I love Faithless, but Aerosmith was the first dance at our wedding. Oh, come on! So it depends, Greg. Would you want to go with Sentiment or a Dance Banger? What do people... OK, what do the listeners want?

Okay, what do we want? I think we want the Proclaimers. Oh, we can't throw a third one in. Okay, do we want... I'm just going to do it. Message now, 03700100. You've got seconds to do it because I've got to do it otherwise the news will be interrupted. So what do we want? Faithless or do we want Aerosmith? Producer Tom, have a look at the screen. What do we think? It's making a mockery of the quiz. There is a lot of Faithless. There's a lot of Faithless. Oh, go on then. There's a lot. There's quite a lot of Proclaimers as well.

I think it's just about faithless. I think it is just about faithless, I'm afraid. Tom, call it. It's faithless. It's faithless. Thank you, Greg. You're welcome. It's been a great week. Thanks, Greg. I think for a Friday, this is the right choice.

We'll put Aerosmith back in the box for another day. Get back in your box, Helen. Get back in your box. Fair enough. Eat that, Helen. Get back in your box. Have a great weekend. Thanks for being on it. Good luck for the race. We'll go again with more quiz next week. But for now, this. Deep in the upper gentle night Is when I search for the light And I start to write I struggle to fight in light Without fear

I can't get it. Great quiz team this week. Really good characters. Some not great quizzes, including Marcus, who we then put on wrong-ins. Radio 1's all-day breakfast. Marcus, good morning. Good morning. Are you ready to do wrong-ins? As ready as I'll ever be. We loved your performance on yesterday's quiz this week. Did you have a nice time?

It was brilliant. I need to redeem myself, though, I think, Greg. Yeah, well, look, double down on it. You can redeem yourself by being even more incorrect than you were on yesterday's quiz. It should be pretty easy then, shouldn't it, really? I'll do my best. Well, I want you to do your worst, actually. Well, yeah, that shouldn't be hard. Fun quiz this week, though, on yesterday's quiz, and a worthy winner today, I think, from Ashley. I think it was a good result. I think so, yeah.

We have loads of questions and all I need from you, Marcus, are wrong answers. The answer has to be related to the question. So don't just spout out a load of random words. We're going to give you 60 seconds. No swearing, please. No passes either. And we're ready to go. Here we go with 60 seconds, wrong answers only. Question number one. What did people chase down a hill in Gloucester this week?

Butter. Football. Eric Cantona. We are pushing some cheese. On your foot. You're not very nice. Moo. Moo.

Jeremy. What's your name? David. What's my name? Peter. Name a flavour of juice. Concrete juice. What did Miley Cyrus and me do last week? Run the bed race, didn't they? Where does the sun rise? Erm...

In my bedroom. All right, we'll talk about that. That's good. Does the sun shine out of your behind? And one more question. What does BBC stand for, Marcus? The Big Breakfast Club. Yay! Very, very good. Good answers today.

It's slightly panicky, isn't it, Rongans? Because you've just... It's the flavour of juice one I would have found really difficult, but you did very well with concrete juice. I like that one. So, let's go through your answers. My name's Peter. Your name's David. The current king's called Jeremy. King Jeremy to you and me. Pig goes moo. Give me a compliment. You said they're not very nice. Um...

Where in your body do you wear a tie? On your foot? Yeah, the cheese rolling was good. Eric Cantona winning the Darts Premier League last night. I wouldn't put it past him. I might get into trouble from a few Leeds fans about that, maybe. Don't know. The Big Breakfast Club, I like as well. And the sunrises in your bedroom, of course.

Well, Marcus, it's been really nice having you on The Breakfast Show this week. Thanks for coming back on for more today. No problem. For calling you not very nice, Greg, we're going to send you a bed race running vest this week. So watch out for that one in the post. We're going to send you one of our...

10 year anniversary of this for all your troubles thank you well thank you very much that's very kind you can never have too many running tops you can always because there's always one in the wash there's always a dirty one in a bag somewhere so thanks a lot I appreciate that and see you soon as I said to Ashley yeah good luck with it on the 14th hope it all goes well

See you. Bye. Wrong-uns is done. Marcus wants to get off and I want to play a song. See you. Bye. All right, set up. This is BBC Radio 1. And from wrong-uns, we go to all the latest things. Radio 1 breakfast. All the latest things. Great new music around at the minute, so that's on the way. Before we get there, let's take you to the French Open where Corentin Moutet was playing Novak Djokovic.

Wait. Wait, please. Watch out behind. Don't let the phone go off.

That's Moutet being all cross in French. So Moutet was trying to serve, getting visibly annoyed at the whole thing, until he realised... I thought it might have been. I mean, it was close to a microphone. Corentin Moutet, his alarm's going off. Moutet, with a big apology, won't let you off, Corentin. It was his own phone. What alarm was it? Was it an alarm? Remember to play tennis.

10am, French Open. Next up, we go to somebody else getting caught out on camera, but this time it's Pedro Pascal. Love, Pedro. We spoke about him with Bella Ramsey when they were on the show recently. There was that moment where he called you baby girl in the actual show. Did you see the fuss that that created? Yeah, baby girl. He's more baby girl.

So he's your baby girl? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's my baby girl, for sure. They star in The Last of Us together.

Turns out he's got other nicknames, though, Pedro Pascal. This is a clip that has gone around the world many, many times of him finding his seat in the cinema. And he was... I'm going to have to fill in the final word because it's a rude word, but listen carefully. Hell no. I am a lazy 50-year-old bougie. So he was asked whether he likes to go out on dates and things, and he said... Hell no. I am a lazy 50-year-old bougie. I'm a lazy 50-year-old bougie, uh...

There you go. Rhymes with the word. And finally, we go to Haim, who appeared on Sidetracked with Grimmie. They were chatting to him about Glastonbury. Our favourite moments in life have been at Glastonbury. There has never been one time that we didn't have a good time. And every time we're invited back, it's like a sigh of relief. We're like...

We're going back. And Alana likes to get lost. I have a problem in this family where I get lost. Okay. Every festival. And I won't tell my sisters where I'm going. No, she won't tell. I won't say anything. My sisters are like, we're going to go to the bathroom really quick. Can you just stay here? I go, I'll stay here. And I met these really fun people. We're going to go out. You want to come with us? And I was like, of course. A night out with Haim was the best night. And with that, you're up to date with all the latest things. Dark night.

Radio One's All Day Breakfast with Greg James. Well, there you go. I think we need to get out of this room and have a nice weekend. I'll be back with you. I'm actually not here on Monday. I'll be back with you on Tuesday. But Monday morning, Matt and Molly are on and they're going to be giving away Glastonbury tickets. So make sure you're listening to that. Radio One's All Day Breakfast with Greg James.
