From this american life and W B E Y, chicago is cereal, one story told week by week. I'm Sarah ic. Weird episode too. You probably heard episode one on this american life or through our website serial podcast at ork. But if you haven't stop, go back to the beginning. We're telling the story in order, the story of haman lee and eighteen year old girl who was killed in boltin in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine, in the story of adnan sayed, her x boyfriend who was at the crime. So to pick up where we left off last episode, you heard how the prosecution told the story of this murder at a nonce trial, and the motive the state supplied.

The basis for the whole thing was that after hey broke up with a non, he couldn't accept IT, he was so wounded by her and so furious that he decided to kill her, prosecutor Kevin euric told the jury in his opening statement, quote, he became enraged. He felt betrayed that his honour had been behind ched, and he became very angry, and he set out to kill hamlet. Or this is from closing.

Quote, IT was humilation what he did to him. Make no mistake about its ladies and gentlemen, this was not a crime about love. This was a crime about pride.

But is that what their relationship and break up were really like? Was he so hurt that he decided to kill her thoughts that i'm trying to find out in today's episode by talking to lots of people who knew hey and are done, mostly their friends, because there are a close net group. Some of them are known each other since elementary school.

And even though they went to a big, tough high school, hey and at done and their friends were coming together in a magnet program of about thirty kids kind of school within the school, and they all took classes together and hung out together, and they dated each other, so they knew each other well. And the other information I have to go on are his own words about their relationship, because I have a copy of her diary. IT was entered into evidence of trial, was read by many people, cops, prosecutors, even at none.

What's remarkable about the diary and what makes IT so helpful, is that is essentially a chronical of the annon era of his life. The first entry is April first, one thousand nine hundred ninety eight, right when they started going out. And the last entry is dated january twelve, the day before he went missing.

And in all those months, which he's mostly writing about, is that none. If you had to book and hair in ann's romance, you'd put a school downs ride at the beginning, and then another one ride at the end. The first stance was junior prom, but not in.

His best friend had a little competition going about who could get the pretty st. Prom date that year. Someone said that none should ask kate to o so one day after sports practice on the little hill behind the school, he asked her to prom and he said yes.

On April twenty seventh, SHE wrote a long entry in her diary about prom night. Her diary, by the way, well, not exactly sure what I expected her diary to be like, but it's such a teenage girls diary. SHE jumps from her boyfriend to drivers ed to the field hockey game bubble one minute the next she's upset with her mother, or just sing her friend, or complaining about homework.

So prom night, he writes about IT none. Quote, I swear he is the sweetest guy. Let me tell you why he was prom prance and steph anie was prom princess.

And traditionally they are supose to dance together to my song, casey and Georgeous. All my life I tried that natural and unjust Alice, but I did kind of other me ten seconds later. Guess who danced with me and not with stephane, and none.

Now, how can I not fall in love with this guy? Of course, I gave him his first kiss on the lips, then I totally fall in love with him. Since then, I keep on falling deeper and deeper into him. The bad thing is that we have to keep things secret, sigh, but it's okay because love conquers all. You for a while I would like, notice that .

they we're flying. I would like, make fun ever about IT.

That's iesha pitman. SHE was in the magnet program too. Hey, was her best friend.

He would like, show me notes that they shared. And then I just progressed from there and but IT was some IT was a relationship that was constantly secret because neither of their families knew about its so just created much more of a lake housing i'm going to be at your house but really i'm going out with him kind of thing um .

SHE SHE would tell her parents .

SHE was at your place yeah or others. I primarily mind just a lot of that sort of secrecy around IT. We had a .

lot of I guess, we had a lot of real similar similar the situations with our families.

but at none since he and hey both had immigrant parents, they understood the expectations and the constraints. Do well in school, go to college, take care your Younger brother. And for non no girls, if a female friend ran his car, for instance, you'd have to make sure not to leave any long hairs behind. Or if her girl gave a non a ride home, sh'd have to drop him off down the block so his parents wouldn't see who .

was at the wheel. So he was really easy to date someone that kind of live with in the same parameters that I did with the guards. Do you know, SHE didn't have expected to me come into her house for dinner with her family?

You know, SHE understood that. You know that if SHE was to call my house and you speak to mother, father, I would get in trouble. And diversity, you know. So we would have to come to set up bar talk. Usually we would talk late at that when our parents are sleeping.

They had a whole system for this one way page. The other, when the coast was clear membered. Its one thousand and eighty eighth of not many cellphones around, then that person would call someone eight hundred service like the weather of the time and the other one would call in so that the phone wouldn't actually ring IT would come in through call waiting and the dosing parents would never be the wiser.

At the trial, the state tried to paint a picture of a non as possessive of hay as controlling. When I spoke to his closest friends about that, a couple of them did say that he seemed to be over involved with her. Somehow, though they couldn't come up with many examples, two people remember the time when a done showed up uninvited to a girl's trip to amusement park. Asia pitman was one of them. He remembers nothing positive about their relationship anymore, though by her own admission, SHE doesn't know whether her memories are covered .

by what came later. I think IT was probably mostly Normal, but things that like he kind of, I was generally annoyed me because just the constant paging her, if he was out, he's like, why I just wanted to know where you were and like, I told you where I was going to be. If SHE was at my house when we were having a girl's night, he would stop by like he would walk over and try to coming out in its just lick, have some space but and it's one of those things at first it's like, oh so cute your boyfriends are dropping by but then the tenth time it's like.

really did he ever did hey ever seem break down by IT?

No, but I don't think I was ever freak out by IT in the moment.

Peres has taken on one of those in prompting visits. Are you just talking about on july sixteenth, s.

SHE wrote, quote, a non drop by issues late with carrot cake so yeah, hey does not describe a non as overbearing or possessive in her diary, though SHE does mention a couple of moments when she's mad at him, like, quote, how dare get mad at me for planning to hang with asia or a time when he was niche to her because he didn't not respond to his message as fast enough. But mostly these incidents seem to be tit for tat. Quote, i'm in a real bitch attitude in a non is not helping.

He writes on june fifteen th. He hasn't called since twelve thirty this afternoon and he is definitely pushing me to the edge. I think i'm onna pick a fight unquote.

His friends say he had a strong personality and strong opinions. She's no push over when she's pissed in a non SHE let him know. But by far the majority of diary entries are about how much he likes and loves him.

I stopped counting. There were so many wonderful lin, swedish and best boyfriend in the worlds. Mostly I heard stuff like this from their friends.

Here's Becky klein back then. He was Becky Walker, just a silly teenage high school relationship. I remember a lot of teasing and a lot of um you know hand holding arms around each other.

I don't really remember any anything weird or anything that stands out. They hung around all that summer before senior year. They meet up after work and drive around.

They were seventeen. They were in love. They were active that have sex whenever and wherever possible. Sometimes that motels are in the car at a park, other people's houses or apartments sometimes say fight, then they quickly make up a couple of times hay called IT off, but then would ask for a none back after a day or two or three.

Remember the set up for this crime that the state layout was that anna was betraying everything. He held dear for this girl as a good muslim. He was not supposed to be dating, and so he was sacrificing his religion and lying to his family, all just so he could be with her.

And IT twisted him up inside in his diary seems to be where they found some evidence for that. In fact, they had a friend of haze, debby Warren, read excerpts from IT on the witness stand, quote, I like him. No, I love him.

SHE read at trial stated in my fifteenths quote, it's just all the things that stand in the middle. His religion and muslim customs are the main thing. IT urts mean to know that I am against his.

He called me a double a few times. I know he was only joking, somewhat true. And then there's this, which wasn't rea trial, but is from july when a none went to an islamic conference in taxes with his dad.

This is the most distressed. Hey, gats, on the topic, when I read IT, I thought, oh, this does not looks so good for a none quote. I keep crying over the phone because I miss him so much.

He writes, he told me that his religion means life to him. He tried to remain a faithful muslim all his life, but he fell love with me, which is a great son. But he told me there is no way he'll ever leave me, because he can imagine a life without me.

Then he said that one day he would have to choose between me and his religion. I love him so much. And when IT comes to choosing, i'm going to let him go this way.

I hate the fact that i'm the cause of his thin. He said that I shouldn't feel like i'm pulling him away from his religion. But hello, that's exactly what i'm doing.

So yeah, anytime someone's writing stuff t down like sin and devil in religion means life in reference to their secret relationship. That's not good. But asked the muslim question about IT and IT all sounds so much smaller.

I have said IT at a joke. You know, I got, you know, I can't, you know, i'm going to hell to i'm having you something but I never meant IT in the type of way that he seems that he took IT a non claim.

He just wasn't that religious. He was going to clubs in having sex with girls in smoking weed from the time he was fourteen or fifteen. Culturally, yes, a muslim, but the rest, he says not so much. So passages like this, he says he doesn't really recognize himself in them.

I never, I never really felt as if, you know, man, you know, hey, is turning me away from my religion, you know, and I never only to, I rea galy, that I really can understood that, wow, this is the perception that SHE kind of head, just like the gravity and the magnet with which he took these things. I didn't really feel that way about these things.

Maybe if this seems convenient for me to say that now, but the only thing I could say to kind of what they prove in in a way is that my behavior didn't change once I stop, once he broke up with me, once, you know, we broke up with whatever. It's not like, you know, all of the site not okay, this this whole fixin is out of my life. No, I I just continue with the same time of behavior is of different people.

Religious stuff aside, the state at a none was guilt ridden overlying to his family about, hey. But he says he wasn't all that bothered by that. He figured he was a pretty good kid.

He's doing well in school at a job. He was volunteering at the mosque. Why shouldn't have some fun? And in the panthers, out of ways, a teenager could have been disrespectful or deceitful to his parents.

He thought this rated pretty low a yet my name is hua human in the mada adnan's yd. A nandy. Most of his lying to his mother, he figured out something was up pretty early on.

Sh'd found a none's crown from prom in the basement where he tried to stash IT along with his tux. SHE mem came to the united states in one thousand nine hundred and seventy six. Her husband was already here working as an engineer for the state of maryland.

She's from a shower in pakistan where you do not date you are either married or unmarried, not much of a middle ground. So IT noun's girl contact put chemie in a state of high alert. SHE would checked the mileage on his car to see if he driven further than he said SHE eves dropped when he talked to girls on the phone.

I know this makes her means sound terrifying, which is not at all SHE adoors at none. Her middle son, yeah. He will talk to the girls.

Yes, I would pick up the phone or, you know, what do you know what he say? Like, mom, hang up the phone. Yeah he would say, mom, you know, I know you're listening to me.

Yes, I say, and then I am here you see a mom stabbed your listening to us now. And was that conflict? I mean, IT must been sort of constant, of course.

Yeah, because plan is was unacceptable. So we used to argo that, you know, I say, no, you cannot do that. You can not.

If you like somebody you know is right, you can get married, but not without, of course, me in a dentist, a problem. And on's father was a little more lose about my my whole family, who has lose. Even my older son, who say, you know, mom, everybody's doing IT.

Even my husband said, you know that all the boys are bringing, but I say, no, not my children. I don wasn't getting punished for you. This wasn't as if you were about to get kicked out of the house.

More like he was being reminded of his responsibility, ie. S both at home and at his mother's request by his youth leader at the mosque. Then came the homecoming dance in the fall of senior year and not in head, been together for about seven months.

By then, this dance would become a big deal, a trial proof of just how fraught their whole relationship was and how tormented a non was about his double life. Here's what happened. A nounce parents gut warned that very night that he had taken hate to homecoming.

A none says this kind of thing happens in their community all the time. Someone sees someone else's kid at a dancer at the mall, and before you can even hide behind a potted plant, four aunts are on the phone to the his mother. Anyway, this time, adm's parents did not wait to deal with IT at home.

They showed up at the dance and chastise them, made a scene. The prosecutors argued that this scene would come to haunt him until the day he killed. Hey, here's a prosecutor kissing.

Murphy told the jury about the moment when he says a non strangled hay. What is IT that this defendant saw on january thirteenth when he looked down at Haley? Then SHE list a couple of things and says this quote, he saw his parents standing at the window of the homecoming dance.

He saw his mother raised her voice at haylee in front of his classmates. Look what you're doing to our family. He saw the pain in his mother's face because he knew they were together and he saw himself in the end standing there with nothing to show for IT but a guilty conscience in a pack of lies in which he closed himself. Now compare that with how announce best friend sad remembers the homecoming tobacco.

He comes home like eleven P M, like twelve midnight and unlike, you know what happened your home and he's like, you're not going to believe this. I like what he's like. My mom, my dad showed up and I like what I mean.

We're dying. Laugh on the phone about this. This is our world. And what happened there, like a day showed up. They made me leave and everyone saw IT. How like, no, literally, my parents pulled me out of this relationship.

I've come across dozens of bits of evidence like this information that can either mean one thing or perhaps its opposite, depending on who's talking a non cell phone. For example, he bought IT just two days before he disappeared. The state tried to show that that was all part of his plan, that he needed the phone to Carry out the murder.

But annan says he wanted the phone who he could call girls unfettered. And he was proud of the phone. He'd worked hard at his job, as in the emt, to pay for IT.

Oh, in the job, the state would argue that because he was an amt, a none would have known how to strangle someone and would have had the training to revive them if he washed none again. He says he was proud of being certified. He'd got ten, the highest score on the qualifying test, if anyone in his class and a real job.

As a result, he liked old people, and his job was mostly to ride in the back of the ambuLance with old people. Make sure they are okay. In the detective's notes, they interview a non's english teacher, jane fann, who apparently tells them, quote, but none had a dark side, which is in his poetry, the worlds dark side are underlined in suffering.

I was like all the teenagers that I taught, because everything in their lives with dark, I don't remember any of them having anything upbeat to say. So he was just the one that makes you think that you're living on another planet because you look at them and they're all healthy and party and playing and being stupid. So so IT didn't stick out in some way.

I was just like all teenagers, right, rudy? Dramatic process. absolutely. So what I mean, all this information, every scrap its currency for side iran is spent.

And the trouble was spent is that you can't totally disregard IT, because swirling around somewhere inside some tender of IT is true. Sad children thinks that none is innocent, so for him, the homecoming story is also innocent. He didn't write about homecoming in her diary, but asha says IT wasn't funny to her was a big deal. I you should remembers that nonce parents wanting to find, hey, so they could talk to her, which of course.

hey wanted nothing to do with so that we could leave the dance and not be harassed by his parents. Like SHE walked out holding hands with my friend joan to get away from my felt like that was a completely ridiculous thing in your super pissed one in there. I think that for her was, I absolutely don't want to be with this person at all, because this is what happens .

on november third. Hay wrote in her diary quote, who would have thought we would end like this would have imagined the amount of pain that comes with a broken heart. I know i'm doing the right thing, call me selfish, but this pain is way less than what I would be if we stayed together.

Then apparently they reunited, because exactly a month later, on december third, she's full of love. For a non again, quote, this feels so real, so loving and ever so amazing. I can't be any happier, but yet I keep on being happier.

But then just three days later, there's this on december six. But what's the matter with me? Every time I close my eyes, I see my baby, but I keep on thinking about someone else.

Dawn, hey, has got a crush on dawn, an older guy. He's twenty, whom he works with that lends crafters at the owning smells mall. Dan has blue eyes and blond hair and a camera.

And SHE really, really likes him for the next couple of weeks. She's ract with guilt and confusion over what to do. At one point, he writes a non's name and giant black letters made out of tiny little adonis.

And underneath that does the same thing with dawn, giant letters made up of tiny dawn. On another page, SHE writes down's name one hundred and twenty seven times hundred and twenty seven dance. It's not clear from the diary when he finally tells a none is over over.

But certainly by Christmas they were split a new year's day. Hey has her first official date with dawn, and they start going out. Hey, is head over heels. I, you should remembers meeting him on a double date to friday's restaurant, and then to see the movie SHE experience.

Ve, I was the most award double day. He was older. I forget how old he was, but he was significantly older than us. My boyfriend was two years Younger, so was just a horrible to out with .

one man and one boy.

Yeah, IT .

did. This is where the real questions began, all the most important questions about IT. None about how he responded to this break up into the fact of he's new boyfriend because the whole premise of the state's case against a nan is that he felt betrayed and humiliated and angry, and that's why he killed her.

This idea came from j. They remain witness IT was jay who supplied the motive to police. Here's tape of jay being interviewed by detective grade livery.

What did he tell you, he told mean that he had broke his heart. There was extremely wrong for anyone to treat them that way, that he didn't believe how he's going and looking fake to face told him SHE in lovel could be that hard as and he told me, he said, almost joking me. I think i'm going to kill them yeah, I think mill, you didn't know how he was going to kill him, but he told you that he he was gonna ill, yes, because he had broken his own.

But nearly everyone I spoke with announce friends and teachers say he took the break up like anyone would. Ann's friend mac Francis said none was initially devastated and jealous about the new boyfriend, that he grumbled about IT in a typical guy way. Nothing strange.

Everyone I talked to said some version of this that he wasn't rage filled or indicated he was just sad. IT really did seem like run of the male, male teenage angst. That's dona pay I phillips SHE taught her none.

And hey, ap psychology and I know the most ince a refreshment in her job. She's seen a lot of high school break ups, but the level of frustration he must have felt if he killed her doesn't register with me. I don't remember getting that vibe from him.

He was just, he was just another kid whose heart was broken. And goodness, if I thought that the kids I teach today, we're going to resort to some kind of horrific crime based on that kind of thing, I I would have stop teaching because that happened every other day. I would be the unfriend. Sadd said that none definitely wasn't moaning over, hey.

when they had broke up and none and hay had broke up, IT had been like, a month, maybe more SHE had ready stardi another guy. And I was like, a not dating multiple girls.

I was like, I can tell you some of the girls that he's dating as like he is not upset about him and hay breaking up as like he's dating this girl Angela and fill that he's been going to see this girl and I know he wasn't like great proof, but he was still proof that he wasn't obsessed with her. He wasn't I was like he's I trying to could explain on like he's a player. He has a lot of girls as like he's talking to most island I .

am too he was cute and charming. He was just a very sweet guy, very flotations. Sorry, sad.

She's not talking about you. This is Angela. The grow in filly and SHE confirmed a couple of visits.

They made out nothing too serious. I knew year's eve, a non met another girl in niche a from silver spring, maryland. And he started calling hero lot too, a non friend. Mac, remember red not making out with another friend there is at a party that january. So yeah, the player.

And now himself describes the break ups with hey as fairly rational .

amounts broke up SHE and the the relationship that took a break IT was never a thing where I was like pestering her, or like going to her house, napping on the door or chase in her down look, I wanna get back you I want to get back to you because apart you the part of me that knew that and what he saying that makes them so yeah so pretty much we were just strange you know um we we thought about things like he would tell me about a um someone that he admit her job uh got in done and SHE was like, you know SHE really like them and you have .

thirty second yeah yes .

coming coming back .

that's the prison phone system telling us our time is up. Happens every half hour, surprises me every time because often sort of forget where is but so you you're making the break ups sound very kind of calm and mutual and like nobody got upset but I mean, is that true or was they're crying in the usual teenage once over IT?

What much now does me talk? And you know, fifteen years later, I mean, you know, he was upset. I was upset.

You know, was times where I was very sad. And maybe I will kind of be like a little stubbing about IT. I, no, we can make IT working on parents will be cool, whatever. But on the other IT was never saying where I was like, you know, stream and yet why you leaving me or so you know, just to say that just kind of to spell that that that that that was never my behavior you know at all.

IT is true that no one at the time described an non as acting obsessed in, anyway, not even asia. And in a diary, hey, never expresses any concerns about a nonce post break up behavior.

In fact, he writes about a time just before Christmas, so after the'd broken up, when he gets into a little car accident and calls up but none to come, gather from work, both dawn her new crash and had none look at the car together and decide it's unsafe to drive. So if none takes her home, apparently was all very cordial, even done said so he wouldn't talk to me for the story, but he testified at the trial. At this point, i'm gonna say flat out that I don't buy the motive for this murder, at least not have a state explained that I just don't see IT.

Not one person says he was acting strAngely after they broke up. He, and hey again, by all accounts, were still friends. He was interested in other girls.

He was working at his job. He was headed to college about two weeks after his arrest. He gets an orientation packet for the university of maryland.

I don't think he was some empty shell of a kd hood betrayed his family in his religion. He was now left with encountered up a murderer rage for a girl who broke his hard. I simply don't buy IT. And the reason I don't buy IT is because no one who knew him then or now says that's how IT was. I want to be clear though that that does not mean he didn't do IT IT just means that so far, I think the state story about why he killed her doesn't hold up.

Maybe IT was more of a spur the moment thing, maybe despite the other girls he was running after he was privately still ing about, hey, after all, he was apparently still floating with them after they broke up, still paging him with loving messages. SHE bought him an expensive jacket that Christmas. Maybe thought he start a chance with her, like their friend debby told me.

Maybe once done came on the scene, he thought, that's a slap in the face. How dare you continue to lead me on like this? The night before hay disappeared, a non called her from a cell phone three times.

The first two calls at eleven twenty seven P. M, and twelve one eight were only two seconds each. The third call at twelve thirty five A M lasted a minute and twenty four seconds. Anna says he was probably calling to give her as a new cell phone number. He just gotten the phone in the day before.

And indeed, in the top left corner of her diary, she's written down the number according to dance testimony she'd been at his house that night, which is probably why announced first two calls ended so fast. Super, I wasn't home yet. Her very last diary entry date, a january twelve, is brief.

I love you down. I think I ve found my cell mate. I love you so much. I fell in love with you the moment I opened my eyes to see you in the break room for the first time.

There is one detail about the day hey went missing that I need to tell you about a detail that doesn't look good for a non. And that detail has to do with whether none tried to get in haze car right after school because that is what the state would allege that had not fabricated a reason to get in her car that afternoon so he could kill her. Jay had told police. That .

was a nance plan. He tells me that he's going to do IT in her car. He says me that he was going to a tell if his car was broken down and asked her for a ride.

So what do we know about the end of that day on wednesday, january thirteen th? Hana, none. Had a couple classes together, first period and also last period, A P psychology with miscalled. That's when I usually saw, hey, the antipsychotic gy. SHE was talking to a non, then their friend debby remember seeing hey on her way to her car.

SHE told debby SHE had to get her cousin from school and then was going to see down at the mall the very last person to see hate at school that day, we think, is I naz butner hand dicks. I nazran a little concession stand read at the gym entrance, and he would combine every day and get the same thing, a very fine apple juice and hot fries. That day, SHE drove up in front of the gym where the concession stand was and left her car running.

So SHE came around the circa parked car right there, jump out and ran, and they gets something to drink and to tell me the tel bus not deliver. The bus was for the boy's rustling team. Hay was manager and he had a matched later that afternoon that he was supposed to go to.

And you didn't see after again, after that? No, I didn't see anymore, was out not anywhere near her her car. No, I didn't see him there.

A color. okay. So no one actually testified at trial that they saw hana dan leave school together.

A no one, aside from jay, says they spotted a none in her car at any time that afternoon. Adnan has no recollection of having asked him for a ride anywhere. We've talked about IT many times. Here's what he said. The very first time I asked .

him wouldn't have asked for a ride after school. Sure that I, but immediately at school, because I know SHE always, anyone who knows her SHE always go for little things. So you not do with anything for anyone right after school. No, that what is not? McDonald, not to seven eleven.

The trouble for adnan is that a couple of their friends say he did ask him for a ride. One of them was a friend. Crystal, if I remember correctly, think ad none and I were to uh had a class together um our first prety classical photography and SHE. They passed each other in the hallway and I was with him and I remember somebody saying or him saying something about, can you give me right after after school their friend Becky told police SHE heard something about a ride as well. I do remember that there was talk about IT.

I remember I felt a key asked her to give him a, give him a ride somewhere OK can I just read to you what the police notes say? Think April eighth ninety nine, the interview deo, so IT says some time earlier that day, apparently he asked her to take him, possibly to get car before lunch because IT was in the shop heard about IT at lunch. So I think you heard about IT at lunch.

Yeah, that sounds, hay said he could. There would be no problem at end of school. I saw them.

He said, oh, no, I can't take you anything else to deal. SHE didn't say what else. Approximately two twenty.

So that happened at approximately two twenty, he said, OK, i'll just ask someone else, he told her goodyer in interest, did not see. Hey, after that, okay. Yeah, that sounds right. That kind of all comes back a little bit.

So Christian Becky both remembered, and while Becky's recollection maybe works in a un's favor, that he turned him down for a ride, he seemed with that, the question is still there. Was he trying to get in her car? Did he ask for a ride, just like jay said? And in fact, the most damming evidence in support of jays statement doesn't even come from Christal. Becky IT comes directly from a non, because he himself told the cops the same thing that day.

State police officers got had got to the stand around six .

thirty pm after he had gone missing a bolt more can I police officer named Scott adcock called a non cell phone. His family was worried that he had been turned up to her cousin school, and the officer was calling around to some of her friends to see if anywhere SHE was. Here's adcock testifying at trial.

I spoke to my sid, and he advised me that he did to the victim in school that day and that he was specifically to ride home from the victim. But he got detained at school and just got her in left.

Then, a little more than two weeks after the call with officer adcock on february first, by this time, the search for hay has ramped up. A different detective calls, asks the none about the right thing. Asm, did you tell officer adcock s.

Hay for a ride, according to the police report, quote, adan said this was incorrect because he drives his own car at school. So he reverses himself. Why would he do that? Why would he tell the first cup? He was expecting a ride. And then once it's clear, hey, is missing, change his story. Maybe the girls we're thinking of a different day, or maybe a one misspoke when he talked to that first cab or maybe he did esk for ride at some point that David, he's forgotten or maybe he's lying. I'm not a detective, but I consider this a red flag but I don't know is is as a tiny, tiny red flag like you just got confused and so what or is this like a great big flapping in the breeze red flag, like maybe he's hiding something more next week?
