Happy Thursday, everyone. We are finishing up our five-part series on why you're stuck on social media, and I saved the best one for last. Why is it the best one? Because quite frankly, it is the one most of you are the most afraid of. Yes, tip number five that you're stuck on social media is you think making videos gives you the hives. Well,
Well, guess what? If you're allergic to peanut butter, you may have an anaphylactic reaction to peanut butter, but no one has ever yet actually been allergic to creating a video that I know of. If you're the first, DM me and let me know because I'm super interested in that one. But let's face it, you guys.
Video killed the radio star as that old, old song goes. And quite honestly, it has pretty much killed the static posting real estate agents social media strategy. Now we've talked all week long that you should do some static post in your content and that is accurate, but gone are the days where all you can do is post a just listed or a just sold and hope that your following creates clients. It's not. You know why?
Because video allows you to talk directly to hundreds of people at their convenience and creating a relationship where people trust you. They look at you as a professional. They want to use you. It doesn't.
It demands convenience and it demands that they can hear you at the same time. We have just flat out moved away from a society where a billboard works anymore. No, think about it this way. Do you stream your videos to watch your TV shows and binge them all at once?
Or are you still stuck in the days where you have to wait every Sunday night for the next episode of Yellowstone to come on? No, girlfriend, you're probably streaming it and watching it at your convenience. Same thing as your audience. Your videos do not have to be perfect. They do not need to be created by a professional videographer. You've got this little tool in your hand called your iPhone. Learn to use it now.
At the end of the day, here's the really hardcore truth is,
Your potential clients don't actually care if your hair isn't perfect, your makeup isn't perfect, or that maybe you need a better ring light. Yes, a better ring light will make us feel better about ourselves, but that is not what they're watching in order to determine if they're going to use you as their agent. They want to see you as you show up to sell their home. Real, human, and authentic. Oh my gosh. The reality is...
If you're creating videos and you're wondering why your social media strategy is lacking, it could be that your videos aren't showing up
as you need to connect with your ideal client. Because if you don't connect with them through the video, then they're going to click off and go straight to the next agent. If you're constantly looking at yourself in the mirror, checking your hair, not looking into the camera, you're not comfortable, we can tell it. And when we can tell it, we bounce right off of your videos. So it really doesn't matter if you're creating videos, if you're not doing them in the
FYI, stop looking at the metrics, by the way, and start looking at the DMs and the amount of appointments you're getting. If you are creating videos on the daily and you're not getting new clients, then you're not connecting with the right clients and you do need to rethink your strategy. If you're not creating videos, get your phone out and let's do it.
Remember, your client wants you to talk to them, not at them. In essence, ladies creating videos, it's how you door knock now. It's how you take over the marketplace and it's how you do it when your client is ready and at their convenience. Your conversations on video need to be real. So if you're going to create a video about listing a home or about the market, you're
Think through if you were really having a conversation with someone sitting across the desk from you, what would that conversation sound like? And talk into the video as if that person is actually sitting there across the desk from you. Give your listing presentation live. Answer the market strategy questions live. Go ahead, look straight into the camera and
Ask and answer the questions that you normally ask and get answered or ask and need to answer and record that. Don't worry about overhyping it, overthinking it, overdoing your makeup and hair, or overdoing your background. Be authentically you. Because again, if you're not connecting, well...
It's not because you're not using the right hashtags. It's because you're talking to the wrong people. The size of your followers doesn't matter. You guys, if your social media strategy, you think you can't start it today because you only have 55 followers, that's okay. Talk to the 55 followers. 55 followers will convert into one or two clients and they will spread the word about you and it will keep going. You have to start from somewhere.
So it doesn't matter the size of your audience. It matters how you show up. All right, here is your action item for today to get your butt on video. Do some practice. You need to get comfortable in front of the video and you need to get comfortable not always being perfect on video.
Practice by getting on the video by FaceTiming all of your phone conversations for the next 72 hours with your family. Refuse to talk on the phone. Get on FaceTime instead. Start using video DMs to people in your social media.
that you want to connect with. If you want to send a message out today about a market update or about an open house you have this weekend, create a 15 second video where you just give an alert about the open house. Why in the heck someone should come see it and go send that out to 55 to 100 people. It will help you literally not fill your open house, but practice getting on video.
Hop on Zoom three times over the next three days. Just ask everyone you know, can we get on Zoom for a second? Ask your admin to have your meeting on Zoom. Ask your team to have a meeting on Zoom. Ask your husband to start planning date night over Zoom because what you're really doing is getting comfortable with the sound of your voice, the look of your face, and all the things that go into videos.
I want you to start using video so much that you will stop caring about what you look like. You'll start making meaningful connections that way. A lot of agents will ask me, okay, what are some rules for video? Joanne, I know you just told me to show up authentically you, to keep it real, to be who you are, to just get the heck on video and not worry about the rest. But I know some of you really do need the rules. Here's my favorite one.
If you're going to be authentic, then you want to show up in video as you would show up on a listing presentation. People get used to seeing you on video in a certain way.
You will see me all the time in jeans and a t-shirt or leggings and a t-shirt. Yeah. Occasionally I do dress up and I kind of like it when I do makes me feel all professional and stuff. But the truth is I'm not going to dress up for every video that I create because that's not really who I am. My brand is authentic. It is down to earth. It is telling you what it is, how it is. No BS. No BS.
And to me, that's me in a nice t-shirt. Now, do I have stains all down the front? No, I'm going to have it ironed or at least steamed, looking decent, no curse words on it. You know, it's going to be an okay t-shirt. You're not going to be able to see my bra through it, but I will show up on video in a t-shirt because that is how I'm going to actually show up on my listing presentation.
When your audience gets used to seeing you on video, they do expect to have the same person show up in real life that shows up on video. So if you always have the best production on your video, the best makeup, the most trendy outfit on, and you are always dressed to the nines in your video, girl, you cannot show up in a t-shirt on your listing presentation. You now kind of have to show up dressed to the nines.
So if in your videos you show up in a little bit of all of it, because that's really who you are, then that also gives you the leeway to show up that way in a listing presentation. Because remember, your clients have gotten to know you probably well before you think they did because they've reached out to you on social media. They've binged your videos. They've seen your stories. They've gone in through and watched all your lives.
They have learned who you are before they ever reach out. So if you really want the rule on how to show up on video, just show up as you. Hey, listen, I will openly tell you that a lot of what I've learned about being on social media comes from some of my friends like Chelsea Pites and Giselle Ugarte. And Giselle is coming to Atlanta March 23rd and 24th to our Focus Conference to get real, get
Get on video and really dive into the tactics, the strategies, all the things related to hopping onto video with the attendees at the conference. It is a game changer. It is a business changer. And you, if you're going to do social media, really can't afford to not be there sitting in a room with her.
Because how often would you get to sit at lunch with her? Would you get to have her help you create a video? This is probably your only opportunity. I mean, we're talking about an Inman Connect speaker here. So if you want the opportunity to sit in a room with,
50 agents or less and have her show you how to get on video or sit in a room with 200 agents and listen to her keynote on why in the heck you should get on video. You need to get your booty down to Atlanta, March 23rd and 24th for the focus conference. Tickets are on sale now at realbosswomen.com.
