Perfectionism played a significant role in Mallory Ervin's life, almost leading to her demise. It became a crippling force, driving her to constantly outdo herself and meet unrealistic expectations. This mindset led her to a crisis point where she became dependent on prescription medications, ultimately leading to a six-month stay in a treatment center. She credits overcoming perfectionism as one of the biggest obstacles she had to face to achieve her current success.
During her six-month treatment, Mallory Ervin was stripped of her external achievements and physical appearance, which forced her to confront her true self. She learned that her worth was not tied to her achievements or looks. This realization allowed her to embrace her authentic self and find fulfillment without the need for external validation. She emerged from treatment with a newfound sense of self-love and authenticity.
Mallory Ervin encourages those struggling to get excited about the potential for transformation, emphasizing that rock bottom can be the foundation for building an incredible life. She believes that overcoming such challenges can lead to a life far greater than before. She urges individuals to seek help, even if they must be the ones to initiate the process, and to focus on the positive outcomes that await on the other side of their struggles.
When Mallory Ervin shared her struggles with addiction during a family gathering, her family responded with overwhelming support and pride. Despite her fears of being seen differently, they clapped and expressed their admiration for her courage. Her uncle even compared her to a wrestling champion, cheering her on. This experience reinforced her belief that people often love and respect you more for being authentic and vulnerable.
Mallory Ervin's grandfather, who lived a full and impactful life despite numerous hardships, taught her the importance of pursuing ideas and dreams while one still has the gift of time. Even on his deathbed, he shared entrepreneurial ideas with her, emphasizing that he still had many ideas left but no more time. This inspired Mallory to encourage others to act on their dreams and make the most of their time.
