welcome. Thank you. Fourteen new york times best sellers people. Fourteen is the founder of medical, director of the ultra wellness center and head of strategy and innovation at the cleveland clinic center for functional medicine. dr.

Tr hynd is also consulted with the surgeon general on diabetes prevention. I mean, we could just be drop in all these laughing. He's laughing at his own credentials. And that's something that I actually love about dr. Hynd, because he's reliable.

And so we are gonna break down the world of functional medicine and the science behind how you can have more energy, how you can use things that are in your house and in your fridge to help you calm your anxiety, to help you gain focus if you have hd. And more importantly, I don't care how old you are. I know we ve got a tonic college kids that listen to this. You should be thinking right now, no matter how Younger old you are, about what you can do to make sure that as age, you also have the energy that you deserve.

right? Dr, welcome. Thank you.

You're welcome. And one other thing I want to tell you guys, so about a year ago, I think you guys know this. I had this like tanami casual, of a breakdown that was a combination of anxiety, grief and crushing symptoms from manaos.

Oh, IT was a hot mess, literally. And I text a doctor, hymen, and I went to his wellness clinic, ellice s. And so I have first hand experience working with his team and following his advice. And IT has made a profound difference. And that's why i'm excited for you to be.

Sadly, our health care system in our medical paradise doesn't actually know how to get you from there to here. And it's all about activating your body's own innate intelligence healing systems, which is really all I do. I don't really treat disease.

I just help the body do what is supposed to do by getting one of the bad stuff and putting in the good stuff. So the body is really an amazing organism. That's a self healing, self repairing, self newly system, if you know what to do.

And I mean, who's listening out there? They gotten owners manual strapped to their leg when they were born. Probably not too many of you you know how to use your iphone and computer more than you know how to regulate an usual body. And that's really what this is all about.

Doctor hynd, you just said something that really struck me, which is that every single one of us, our bodies, has an intelligent healing system, yes, built into IT. And I immediately thought about the fact that, you know, we all know instinctively that if you cut your hand, your body knows how to heal. Its all yes.

And so don't go to the dog that prescribe pt to heal .

your hand and just those to do yeah and so can you just expand upon that for somebody who is never considered that concept, that your body is designed when you know how to take care of IT to heal itself? What the hell does that even mean?

It's it's really incredible. I mean, I literally get to be the witness to miracles every day. And people who are, are they wanting to just optimize their health and live a long healthy life for people who have n staged diseases like texture abeles hard to these disease, whatever is A D D depression.

When you know how the body works, you can learn how to optimize its function, which is what we call function medicine. And then you get rid of the stuff. It's impairing our ability to function properly, and you put in the stuff that the body needs to thrive.

So you take out the impediments to health, put in the increase to health, the body knows what to do. Most people don't connect the dots behind what they're doing in their life is what they're eating or the talks. And they are exposed to where the stress are under the lack sleep they are getting or the like.

The fact, may I move their bodies or learn all these things? They don't know how that's impacting them. They don't know how close they are to feeling good. We're literally only a few days, not weeks or months .

from feeling Better, were only a few days away from feeling Better. Yes.

it's really mark. I think people all the world and I put up in these groups, we do these programs around the world and we change our diet. We moved them a little bit, a little bit. You've going not like running a marathon, but just general exercise, some simple body practices. Within six days, the average person reduces their symptoms from all diseases by seventy percent. What I think is so many times, like I ve been shocked myself because like migrants are util bow, or depression or in somali, or joint pain, or fatigue, or brain fut, whatever the stuff you're feeling. And I called the fl c syndrome.

what? Fc.

that when you feel like crap, a more serious version of that called fls.

you like shit? yes. Well, and I you know it's interesting is that I think about um you we're constantly looking at what people dm us and what they fill out in the forms at melrose in stock com. And i've started to wonder if part of the problem is that so many of us are are used to feeling like that yeah .

we don't know how Better we can feel. We don't have any insight because we've never inside you have an elf and standing your for your whole life, you don't know what he feels like when the element kids off until IT gets off. And so then people have the insight.

And, you know, I written many books about how to do this. My new book, Young forever, I explain how to do this. I written on the ten day detox diet, which is really what I used in my patients to help reset out unities, reset the god and off information, give of as migrate, whatever is that. People are suffer from depression, because we know now the depression is information in the rain.

I want to go point by point by point, because I can feel. Can you just hear doctor harmen winding up in so excited? I want to back up a couple steps because we were talking about the fact that your work in functional medicine as a medical doctor, decades of work with patients of research, the books that you've written, we are going to link to all of this.

Everybody IT will be in the shown notes. Don't you worry? We ve got you covered. You talked about the fact that our bodies are designed to heal.

And so I want to give people a metaphor to start to think about, because you have pretty started talking about food and that we don't stop and think about the fact that the environment that we live in and the things that we stick in our mouth and put in door our body and the stress that we indoor are all things that we can change for the Better. That have a material demonstrated impact on the quality of your health to the point. Or if you take this seriously within six days, you will feel Better.

yeah. I mean, yeah. And what's so amazing now is that every selling your body, your DNA, your micro biome, which are the bugs live, you're got immune system, everything is listening to your thoughts, everything is responding to your environment in real time.

We call the your life is not Peter term by some genetic destiny is the life in the exposing, which is all the some total of all the experience ve had, all the talks and all the thought, all the relationships, all the food, everything washing over your biology, creating expression of who you are in this moment. And so that's a very impowering idea because he doesn't just didn't happen to you. You can actually be empowered to understand with those things, are and change them and radically reverse your your biological age, your health problems, your mental health, because the body has an incredible healing system.

as we said, wow, okay, so what a good mountain for. And maybe you have a Better one. But I keep thinking about like if you think about the fact of a car, brand new car is designed to drive, right? I need to so if you want to take care of your car, you put in the the fuel that doesn't have a bunch of crap in IT and or you plug your car in, right, and you drive one of these elector cars, I think a lot about food as the fuel.

And if your car drives best on electricity or gas, you would never put sand there in your test tank because that we clagget IT up. yeah. And so is that kind of a metaphor? Think more and is more exciting .

than because, yes, food is fuel energy, right? You need to run your body. Yes, but there's all these other stuff and food that we have ignored besides calories.

And it's the informational in food, because food is not just colors, its information, its instructions, it's code that up regulates for biology or down regulates IT. Every single bite ow. IT changes your gene expression, your hormones, your brain chemistry, your immune system, your microbiome. Literally everything is changed in real time by what you're eating like most people don't connect their food and their mood or are their food in their asma.

their and their person. wow. okay. I want to talk about where do we start, okay? Because I want to make sure that everybody listening leaves with a Better understanding of how their body is designed to heal itself and specific changes that we can make in order to activate that power inside of us. And so I wanted talk a little bit about um you write so much about food and we've party started talking about IT and in particular, I am a huge fan of your book of the blood sugar solution, which is where I think you're one of the first people to start talking about the vegas nerve and the power of the veg nerve which which we talk about on the show constantly and the mine solution is .

a oh a all good but listen.

you know everybody and i'm going to have you explain IT. You know you probably you may have heard that your gut is called the second brain, but what you may not know is that. During the formation of you as a human being, the same embryonic clump that forms the brain also forms the gut, and they separate, but they stay connected at the a neurotransmitter. I think about IT like almost like like like gop, like you break cup and half and it's got the stringy sections and part of IT becomes your brain.

and the second part becomes the gut guin .

or second brain, and that they talk to each other other. And so where I want to start with this is, can you explain the connection between your god health and your overall health? And then we're going to get into specific .

mental health issues that people struggle with, begin to treat people's guts. You would help their music get Better. I get in on any climate dies.

And as a side effect, they would report to me that my A D D Better, my depressions gone, my pec attacks are gone, my mood is Better, this sleeping Better, all these things i'm like, really, it's going on here. And I begin to really inquire about this process of how everything below the neck is influence ency everything above the neck? yes.

So the subtitle I will alter my solution is how to feature broken brain by fixing your body first. And what's really amazing is the micro biome is this new frontier, in addition to the understanding of the gut brain and the gut nervous system, and the brain nervous system, how are connected this constant communication? There's more in your transmit, you're gut in your brain.

But was now happening is the understanding of the sea of bacteria there that are all speaking to every minute. And I just had talk to a scientist who was researching a particular microbe in the gut, and it's a big word is called acr. Man's here, worry about is just one of the bacteria lives.

okay? And what's amazing as as they were fermenting this, growing this specter, ito put in a probiotic which is very powerful for many things, for regularly meta lisp and mood and ship ledge sugar and everything, they discovered that this, that of the by products of this bacteria was something called gaba. Now gaba is a coming neurotransmitter.

When people take volume, that's what it's doing. It's activating the Gabriel setters in the brain to calm you down and relax you. So when you think if you have the right bacteria and you're god, you're producing compounds and you are transmittals that are going to your brain and making you either relaxing, calm or .

depressed wo okay. I want, I want to have you define a few things for us. So you've use the word information a lot. No, what the hell .

does that mean? now? Everybody does that makes your finger get red and pinion.

All right now, I never thought about that way.

When you functional medicine doctors .

throw around the word inflation tion, inflation tion here, I don't even know .

what you're talking. The inflation tion on the outside where IT looks like? Yes, right? That's what I was just referring to. yes.

But this inflation tion on the inside and and is filling information, you know if your brains inflamed, IT doesn't get ridds fAllen, but you get depressed and you have A D, D, and your personality issues, and you can sleep and your anxious, right? So we're now understand that the information, this hidden inflation tion, is according inside of us and leading to all the diseases of western civil ation heart disease, cancer, diabetes s dementia. The aging process itself is called information ing, which is one of the hallMarks of ageing. I talk about a Young driver in my book, and the the beautiful thing is that we now know what is driving the inflation tion on the insight.

what's causing us to have information on the inside.

Our god is a big player and seventy percent of our new systems and are good. And if we don't eat the right food, if our microwave is in the right bugs in there, their nasty books, and we get leaky, got. And that means the body can filter them out, the food and proteins from food and and the bacteria there.

And you lead them across the intensity lining. And guess what, your immutable stems right there. And he goes, holy shit, what is all this and pretty information. So you get asma, or you get authorities, or you get depression, or you get I betes, or you get dementia because they got bacteria, and the whole system in there is broken down.

I ask one more question because I think this is really important for everybody to understand. Let's back up a minute and talk about how your god is supposed to function. So when it's functioning in the correct week, because I only learned about lake, I got because we had a daughter that struggled with distorted eating yeah.

And he was constantly talking about how he felt fat. And I thought of, my god, we have not only this issue with restriction and you're not eating, but we now have body. This morning, a and we went to see a nutritionist that was a functional, holistic nutritionist. And he came back and said, through the disorder, eating your daughter has destroyed t god, there there are no positive bacteria strings, so the food hits are good yeah. And without positive bacteria strains, the food doesn't break down yeah and so he .

does feel .

and and then like all of this accident crap, because the food is not digesting properly, because there is no positive bacteria, all the acidic crap leaks through the wall of the gut and then goes through the nervous system and the anxiety Spikes. And so this was brand new to me. So can you just explain to everybody when your gut is in baLance, how is IT functioning properly? Because I think that'll give everybody the ability to then understand the impact .

of IT not functioning. There should do this job. Harper, you gas should be fine. So I mean.

got a little gas.

but it's not that's kind of a noral thing. But I think if people are really noticing they're got function, yes, something right OK. And then just like toilet, you should have perfectly formed log, just float a little Better and that's IT.

You should be the urge to go and you should go and you should, like, take up a minute. And that's IT. And and that is not the case for most of people in the rest simulation.

We know now how to identify bouncers in there. We know to test for, we know how to treat IT, not most traditional doctors, but most functional medical doctors. This is the focus of a lot of the way we help people is by optimising their dead function.

Because when we e, we're not just feeding us. We're feeding the thousand quitters that live down there. The is probably ten trillion cells in there we're feeding, you got and they affect everything is going on.

And through the bad guys, you're going to feel bad. If they're good guys, you're going to feel good when you eat sugar and starts and process food and artificial sweet nerves and thicky nerves and gums and ADAS, they just destroyed the microbial. So we really have got crisis in in this country, but we also have the food crisis.

And the food crisis is really what's driving in. Change your diet and see what happens, not for a year or ten hours, but ten days. Anybody can do anywhere, ten days. And when you do that, you let me take away all the potential inflammatory foods, all the foods that are causing you to have issues, which is typically glue, dairy, sugar Price.

So what is the ten day? Just give us simple rules that you want everybody listening to try.

This is a dare let let's go through a sample menu. But it's basically people, vegetables, that in seas and all you.

that very fast route vegetable lots.

all of oil of cos.

So this basically .

breakfast could be, for example, couple eggs with slice tomatoes and boca to with all bottom. Lunch could be a big salad with lots of for biddies tomatoes. I could throw a kind of while salmon on there, put some publications.

And dinner might be of some a piece of fish or chicken or or as nice small piece of meat with three quarters of your place should be vegetable. So yeah, like, I have a good and like a purple sweet t potato. I had some roasted mushrooms.

I had roast a plane. I cci broccoli. Basically, the brockley .

family .

mean that means brockley basically brockley c coloured cabbage brusson proud you all those finally get your .

grandmother service .

is this family of vegetables? It's a supermarket got IT because they actually detoxes yourselves IT helps to bate cancer wow IT boost all the moles new .

boys so I want to stop euclid because you posted something two days ago I did IT was your cells, your brain cells, like all of this stuff, your skin that all is continuing to grow IT doesn't just grow out of the air. IT actually is impacted and grows from the raw materials that you give IT. And so which you rather have cells that are made from a bags, or cells made from a salad or a piece of fish. And when you boil IT down that way, like a cow.

what I put in my mouth is what I become, yeso body, your body's, a smart stock in the roof. It'll tell you what works and what doesn't. And when you stop this for that, you go, god, wait a minute, my joy son heard, or wait a minute, not having terrible brief lux or heartburn more.

I don't have my Greens. What happened? Or my mood is Better, what's going on? It's what you're eating.

Mary lene, pierce, fenner and Smith incorporated, registered broker dealer, registered investment advisor member, S. I, P, C.

Welcome back. I'm here with doctor markmen and he is talking today all about the fact that we have the power to heal ourselves from the inside out. And we're talking about simple ways that you can do this. All right, doctor haymond, what are the top things that people should, in this kind of ten day window, stop eating?

Because if anything, come in a package canna box gait of IT. If it's sugar, no. If super sweet beverages, no. Alcohol, no.

The grains and beans for a short time, because a lot of people have information from that, that they have a got issue. Grains and beans are healthy and they're good for you. But for some people.

they can be a problem. What's the universe?

No gluten. No gluten, no sugar, no dairy, no alcohol, no process food.

Do you have any fun?

Absolutely so much fun. I am so much for everyday. My life is fun, and I don't feel restricted.

I don't start myself. And the thing is, these foods are addictive, male. So people think, I gotta sure of people are listening. They're thinking of a crime going to artificial sweaters are are going to have .

Steve are going to everybody.

He's going through their head. And if you are having this inner dialogue right now, I guarantee you have biological addiction, sugar, because you're trying to find a way out. You most smoking, but i'm a vb.

I'm a new red gum. Well, that's not getting ready. Addiction, yes, and I think it's not your fault.

And this is proh one of the biggest problems I have with the narrative of amErica that we are blaming the person whose over wait for their problem is your fault that you're eating too much and not exercising enough? Because that's the solution to weight loss, is all about calories and calories out, all about moderation. And you can do IT to something wrong with you.

Yeah, that's just a big fat lie. And that keeps people feeling ashamed about themselves and keeps them from being empowering. What to do? IT keeps the food industry free of responsibility, and it's one of the most unfortunate arrays ves that we have.

And what you're here to says it's not you're fault because the way that food is manufactured, IT is addictive and IT is screwing up your body chemistry and IT is causing like a whole listening of things are even thinking that the my diet and the way that process is food is getting metabolize is causing this information that makes my brain not working right. That impacts focus and energy and mood and sleep and all of these things.

And all of you were points to the fact that one of the places that all of us can start is by just doing an experiment for ten days, where you stop the dairy, stop the glue and stop the sugar, and you eat a colorful meal of whole foods and vegetables, three quarters of the play as vegetables and have a protein. There is your homework for ten days and report back everybody. Because you've seen over and over and over again that in that small of the window, people have remarkable result.

Yes, I am the key. People go a slog and and take me years. You're not going to want to do that. So this is like the restart and has enormous benefits because for the first time, people understand what they're doing impacts how they feel. Yeah.

I must feel like this is like an oil change. We ve got to get that native soil out there. And lug, lug, glug, lug, get your gut working right.

Can we talk about the impact of the gut with anxiety? And what's your recommendation? If somebody struggles with anxiety, what do they need to do to heal? They are god. And how will that impact anxiety?

And because many things right from, you know, life stresses, from trauma, from environmental toxins, from your micro bio for meeting to my sugar, I mean, it's a whole list.

So function by getting to the root cause you an anxiety is a symptom, was acting a headache, right? Um well, did someone hitting the him with a hammer? Do you have a migraine to do not sleep? And if you have a hang over, you know analisa like why you ever heading so anxious, just like saying I heading or depressions is like saying of a headache doesn't mean anything other than what your symptoms are, the questions, what's the cause? And that is what function medicine is so good about.

And so the god plays a big role. I really just start with the simple lifestyle practices, a ten day reset. Do some simple movement.

Take a walk. Do some simple, mindful of this practice. Do your high five? Yeah, I do take five, which is five breast, five times a day, simple, like before. Eat every time we're going to bit, take five breath in slowly and out for five seconds.

How the hell does that help .

IT resets your nervous system because every time you breath, you move your die frame and your diagram, me is this place where the veggies nerve goes to the vegas nerve is your relaxation nerve ah, as your nervous system.

you just need to find the switch.

And this, yeah that's a beautiful so you can actually use your breath to reset your nervous system and to calm everything down. And lower gentle and lower court is all lower. All the stress for mones and and reset your system.

But I diesen take a lot. I I want to just come back to something you said in very beginning, over and over and over again, you're proving simple ways your body is designed to heal itself. So five deep breath, walk.

or how you like, take a deep at ten to five through your nose. And five out. Do that part time. It's not the heart.

And I feel .

Better too.

And again, it's proof that if you do the right input, your body or response.

And this is really what my work is about, is what my book, Young forever, is focused on. How do we activate our healing systems, whether you're twenty five, seventy five, you can activate these systems and feel Better now and put them up on the track for a longer, healthier life.

Wow, um let's talk about adhd and A D H D. Okay, we are. I even felt for that.

That was good. Let's go about A D H B. yeah. Let's talk about A D, H.

D. And the gut. How IT is healing your gut with a you, a story. And IT was really .

got me on this track of thinking about writing this book. IT was a trial kid who had severe hd when he was this Younger, was a kindergarten on ata, all kicked out a kindergarten and who gets kicked out a kindergarten? wow. And just struggling at twelve years old. His mother was with and and, you know, can behavior problems and just struggling.

The mother brought a man, and I did a full, I want to say, tell me about radio and tell me about your about, but what's happening with this? In the other thing, I had had asma here at all about anjo me. I had headaches and idea muscle camps.

He had anal itching, which is a clue about something. It's off in a sign of east issues of, oh yeah so he had all these problems and and he was on seven different medications, from multiple different doctors, on how some medications on the medications on md, medications on in the mood and and I was a mess. I started treating him, and all we did was clean up his dig.

He was, kid was living on junk food, never need a mechanical live, mostly nutritional deficit. And he was efficient magnesium, which caused muscle crops. Who was efficient zing any humphrey and vegetables, and his immunity stem was just regulated.

He had also A B by him indefinitely, cities. He was having gutty shes with bad bacteria, gluten sensitivity. He had his over growth. He had a little bit LED system. All this stuff, IT was really easy to treat. All I did was basically take out the bad food, put in a whole foods, die a little bit when women is that we talked about game, basic multivariate, bisho, magnesium, vitamin and probiotics kind of reset.

God and the mother brings him back two months later and did not only his add gone, but all of his other symptoms gone, as my grains is is error l as as my skin issues all gone, congestion and side all gone. And his handwriting went from totally eligible, you know, these kids were really bad. Penny ship to perfectly legible, perfect penniman ship. And I didn't send him with your handwriting school. All I did was fixed his brain by fixing his body, by fixing his gut.

I'm processing .

this no .

no no no i'm processing this because I have a visual to share with um you listening to us and then I want to tell a quick story because I starting to feel like 顶顶顶 顶顶顶 with our own sun。

So the visual I wanna give everybody because I just who hit me is, you know, when somebody has an allergic reaction, like they get stung by a bee or they eat something that they're allergic to and they are face turns red red or you know something swells on their body, that information that you're seeing on the outside is the body reacting to something that I can't process. Can you describe what analogical reaction means? Metics, because I then wanna tie to something that i'm now thinking about when IT comes to the god.

So what does that mean when you an action to main c one is a true allergy? So if you eat peanut s your tongue falls up, your lung shut down, you can be, then you can die. Do you get any of lexis? That's a life threading emergency of beating ology. That's a certain type call type one allergy, which is super fast, super quick.

And you can do for me people .

you bend people right then there's the delayed sensitivity is not a true gy, but I can create some of low grade long term symptoms. So if you eat bread, you might have brain fog. Is that your logy? No, but is a sensitivity? Yes, right? And I think people don't know.

I mean, I know, for example, if I dairy, I will get congestion and snow dy immediately and I always get. But if I have, for example, sheep goat products that are from regents, a sheep that have a two k which is not in, then I don't right? So it's really not so much about the the type one were so much worried about. It's all these other types of food reactions that are slow and delay and creates a slow, great information that creates all these symptoms.

People, yes. So I wanted to bring that visual in for everybody because I think it's really helpful. And IT occurred to me a couple years ago. Ha, I wonder if like these sensitivities and these allergies that people have to food that may not cause swelling or redness in your face, I will break out for whatever that you can see. I wonder if all of this is screwing up the way that our body is able to function and and IT interferes with your body's wait to function. And so when you think about IT, like those kind of type one ones, that and you just explain IT, like if you have a sensitivity to eat or your body just can't handle the big company manufactured foods because of the chemicals and the dies and the crap that are in IT, IT is causing your whole body to have almost like .

this inflation tion.

And so when you think about of that way, IT makes so much sense to a holy cow, if you just simply or to switch your diet from all this process crap go and you were to put on your plate a little bit of protein and three quarters vegetables. IT would probably calm your body down and your thoughts down. And here's what i'm going holy.

This is crazy because our son, exactly what you're talking about. Oakley, in fourth grade, was diagnosed with severe to sexy. The kid could not read IT looked honest to god like he was writing with his feet.

His, the graphite was so bad he could not sit still. So we pull him out of public school. And they immediately medicated for D.

H. D. He hated the means, yes, but I was the only way he could sit still in clap.

Fast forward to about eight grain. He starts advocating for himself. I'm not taking these mets. I'm not taken these mets. I'm not taking these mets.

Really like, fine, but if we get a report from school that you are bouncing around the classroom, we're gonna to find a different solution. This school happened to have a cafeteria where all the kids, eight and IT, had healthy options. There were no one healthy options.

There was the salad bar. There was the home made soup. There is a protein. He gets into ninth grid. When I tell you this kid is a totally .

different.

his handwriting is different. That's what made me think his ability to focus is different. He is just, I don't even know who is.

It's like destroying IT in school. He is present and he eats vegetables. He is a totally different diet. I like, i'm sitting here .

going holy to eat. Yeah, it's really true that I end his .

life and i'm just processing this because I like, I think I this is a major part of why he is transform.

melt as A D, D. Everything that goes on on your brain above our neck is governed in the same way. We may not have such severe symptoms. We may not have asma, we may not have severe add, but we may have fatigue or brain fog, just depression or anxiety about depression.

because anxiety is not a disease. Add is not a disease. Now let's talk about depression now, because that is technically like a disease.

disease and consider a disease. I mean, in the disease classification. Man, I don't agree. I think I think here, let me back up bit. We have like a hundred and fifty five thousand diseases in our manual doctor manual that we can pick from when we want to diagnose somebody. And most of them are just descriptions of the symptoms that people have, but tell you nothing about the cause.

So is the root cause information?

Is that the cause?

What is what are what are the options when IT comes to room cause for you as a .

functional medical doctor? So at the inning, we can in the good stuff. yeah. And you know body is not that complicated. I mean, complex is very dynamic, but basically he needs certain things to thrive, and certain things make IT not throw, right? So what are the things that we need to think about getting rid of that? The bodies isn't like bad food, and we can define, and we fly, define this process, food, sugar, it's stress and it's eto, be physical or psychological stress, and not as no stress is really defined as the perception of a real or imagined threat to your body, to your ego. So you could be a tiger chasing you, or you could think your spouse is cheating on you, but it's not .

true you think that your boss made .

you the other a few things that are the things that cause about to be out of baLance besides bad food and stress are toxins, are gut and micro bio is a huge factor. So i'm unhealthy, god, and bad bugs. And this is things that irrate, armand, system alert es, or sensitivities.

Okay.

what are the five food? Stress, toxins, bad bugs. And thanks.

O. K. Got IT. And if we have those things, they create imbaLance.

So we had to get rid of those things, take out the bad stuff. So what are the good stuff? What are the ingredients for health? How does our boys thrive?

We are often deficient in many nutrients, particularly to make a three vd, D, B, Y, iron or magnesium common nutritional division cities that brought impacts across the body, hooding our mood. Uh, then we need the right baLance of hormones. We need clean air, we need clean water.

We need movement like exercise. We need resetting, restoration, a relaxation, resetting the biggest names, sympathetic this nervous systems. We calm down, right? That's not a passive activity.

So you have to actively relax with this breathing or yoga, meditation and whatever praying of journal million ways to do IT. Then we need also sleep. And most of us started to not getting in a sleep or good quality sleep. So seven, eight hours minimum for most people, essential.

So um if somebody is not getting good sleep, you mention to eight hours of sleep is what the average person needs minimum. What are a couple simple changes that you would recommend that someone focus on immediately to start to improve their sleep habits?

Well, there is a number of simple things you can do IT to a fixture. sleep. A one is regular sleep cycle, so we can sleep at the same time every day.

OK, how did that help?

IT put you in rhythms? Your body kind of know it's time to eat this time. Sleep, have buy your biological organism where the elected or not, and you have to regularly yourself based on circuiting rythm and the basic cycles of day and night and light and dark, everything is, make sure have twenty minutes, if you can, of light in the morning.

why? Because that sets you resets your brain for the day. And also recession pony ogan will help a military production later the day PS you sleep at night.

And so the light you're talking about is get outside.

even on a cloudy day, twenty minutes light box is no even you can use that have full spectrum light. The second is, at night don't get blue light, so wear blue blocker glasses. Get off your screens at least two or three hours before bed.

Is that include television or just phone you?

If you want to really do the blue bucker stuff, you can wear your blue bookcase while you're watching television. And that's a sheep investment for a good benefit. And that will help your brain start to calm down.

And how does blue light interfere with your brains ability to shut down and get ready for listen.

listen, we didn't have a light bub to hundred and seven years ago, right? Our bodies are, like designed when the sun goes down to prove all these hormones and chemicals that help us get ready for sleep. Another thing you do is take magnesium.

Magnesium really helps to sleep for a lot of people at night. And then everything I love to do is a hot bath with epsom salt, lavendar, y lavender and y epson. Epson sult has magnesium, which gets absorb in the body.

The hot water basically relaxes your muscle nerves. So like I can be like super star that they make us how they can stand IT and then other large envy benefits. And then I had lab into drops, which Johnson Johnson knows work in the studies in there because at last court is all is a black or baby to calm the babies down.

yeah. So so love in your drops, you can just put them in the bathtub with your option, salt and so on there for twenty minutes, go to bed and this your temperature starts to go down. You'll sleep also keep your bedroom like for sleep and sex, right? And don't have a TV in there. Keep a cool sixty eight degrees or lower, keep in dark and really important here, plugs and I shades. You live in the city, but that all helps to reset your sleep system.

A M. A Robins, welcome back. I'm here with fourteen time new york best selling author, doctor markin. He is the voice when IT comes to functional medicine.

And he is talking today all about the fact we have the power to heal ourselves from the inside out. And we're talking about simple ways that you can do this. All right. dr. Helen, can you tell us about the importance of connection as a way to stay healthy?

Connection, community, love, meaning and purpose. These are all ingredients for health. In my book, I talked about how, for example, if we cured her disease and cancer from the face of the planet, we d extend life by five to seven years.

If we hear loneliness ss.

if we hear lonely, ess, and develop connection and meaning purpose. We've started by seven years or more. So wait minute. Basically having meaning purpose in connection in life is more powerful than curing cancer and heart disease in terms of longevity.

Connections is medicine. yeah. And i'm sure you're seeing IT as a epidemic of loneliness. They especially coming out of the pandemic.

total the ingredients for health that need to be. And everybody needs different. People might need more value.

And D, I might need more sleep. You need me different kind exercise. So it's really personalized, but those are the basic I M personalize.

right? Because, like it's just talking to the broad audience listening. You've mentioned a number of supplements and it's the same one's over. So for anybody listening, that's like, okay, I got IT. I have to do something we've already talked about diet and changing your diet and even just noticing that if you were to remove the things we've talked about and add in this very simple, clean, healthy vegetable forward and clean protein diet, and sixty ten days, you're gonna like a different person. Just try.

right? Then you going to decide when you wanted, do IT for that, right? I want to keep eating my donuts. Okay, fine. Then you're going to feel like crap.

And if you want to feel like crap is your problem. Well, i'll tell you something I am now on it's like I know they thirty something of not drinking. It's life changing.

Yeah, it's totally life changing. And I cannot believe how much clearer A I cannot believe how much more present I am. I cannot believe that I don't really miss you. And I had committed to doing this for almost three months.

And I don't know how i'll incorporate IT back, if ever maybe you're there, but that I just was such a found difference for me that i'm kind of dumb founded I didn't do this earlier yeah. And so I think you can tell almost immediately. But will you explain to everybody if you're not currently taking a high quality multivariate or other supplements, what are the non negotiable les, where everybody should .

start lesson a dollar a day? You can go, which you need, which is a multivariate? Yep, and I was said a good one. It's cleanly produced. IT doesn't have fillers out.

How do you tell if it's .

a good the ones are manufactured and good manufacturing practices that don't have feller's chemicals in additives that are by available forms and nutrition. So if you think with certain brands, they you can kind guarantee and to get that, then I think a vm d from most everybody, even in the summer, people I am taking the I don't need IT, you do most people unless they're out there running around half naked between ten and two every day, all year long, you're going to be i've .

seen you in your performance after photos, so we're going to link the two is fan with the six five. You're rotten around in the violating, is embarrassed and laughing. We know it's true. Now, is there .

different forms of d like d three.

and you have to take IT with .

something else to be absorb h so with food, basically. okay. So maybe between one thousand and five thousand, the government guidelines say up to four thousand is safe. So downside of that have been visual for most people, because ninety plus percent of us are efficient and make a three fats because they .

don't need while to that much anymore.

What does the fat do? These will make three s are fast, small amounts that are our made up of. They regulate information.

They are what are some memories are made up. They are basically the the most critical thoughts that we consume. And most of us don't have enough for them. And they can treat depression and very minimum. Even A D, D has been found to be helpful post by and depression. I mean, so a lot of things that we just think of what what do we do with these things, but there are great studies that show that these can be effective. So I think that's a kind of basic, not negotiable.

Got to multivariate everybody. The three, what about magnesium?

Because of you, my forth one, depending on your symptoms. And how do you know you need magnesium?

I don't know. How do I know this is.

listen up. Everybody is prety simple. If you everything anything is rita or twitchy or spme, it's likely you're magney efficient. So of your anxious, your emotions or twitchy, your perpetuation is twitch if your calls not working and it's about your constipation for your muscle crampy of eye twitching, any those things are signs of low mag museum.

I'm just twitching as you describe those systems because of my I promised everybody a appointment, zero cost, with one of the world's most respected medical experts and leaders leading voices in the functional space. My toes crap all the time. why? You know everybody's .

favor radio station. Know what that is? No, W I F, M. What does that mean?

What's in IT for me?

What's in IT for me? Yes, exactly. So toes, yes. My ter, probably crap because you have either election ian barancy or magnesium off. And so if you know, people often don't have enough election lights and their directly patashie, so you can get that meeting lots of vegetables from vital brass, or take electronic solutions. But taking magnesium is a huge cure for muscle crimps and specially foot camps.

So what surprising things cause your magnesium to go down? So we we should .

have a lot of magnetic in all foods, ts and fees, and a lot of plant foods, but we do so much to make our bodies dum magnesium in our urine. We drink too much soda, we have too much caffe ine, too much alcohol and too much stress, all of which causes us to lose magnesium in our year.

N does IT make you lose magnesium? Um if you .

drink a soda, well, it's got something called forest fox acid in IT, which is in the dark colored cola. And that caused you to leach magney out. And yeah.

right. Well, thank you, doctor. Can we talk about horon about? Yes, we can.

How do you know if your hormones are at twig? And what role do hormones play in your gut? And I would love to selfish focus on women if that's possible.

So in the Young forever, I have a whole series of questions that aren't fancy. Test your little just questions you answer and you get a score. And, you know, oh, my hormones are out of work, or my detox system is not good, or on way in flamed, or I have magnesium deficiency.

Like those questions, I just roll off what your symptoms would be. So it's pretty easy to identify what what's going on. Now women in particular have way more complex for mono history than men. Yeah, men go through Andrew paws and there they kind of lower their test stores and age and male monopoles, basically.

And what happens when dudes go through male monopoles.

then get low libido, sex drive, having erections, lose a muscle mass, get to a more soft around, you know, basically that's .

what happens.

And group because of the motivation. But but with women, they go through you, puberty, and then they have their teenage cycles, and then they have their twenty eight cycles, and there are thirty cycles and their forty cycles, and then fifties. So I changed. Every decade, women have changing hormones, and everything happens from pms to irregular cycles, to heavy bleeding, to pcs, to create parameter pause, to mental pause. And so now there's no one prescription for all of IT. But essentially what we do know is that, just like everything else, we talked about the things that cause in bounds on our body that we ve listed off, right, the booze talks and successor r and the ingredients for health are also influencing our hormones.

So and what were all the hormones play? So if we had to just like kind of even get more basic.

no, I mean.

i'm seriously like because I think he thrown around these terms, but I personally like what actually what what does the orman play orman to?

Like the communication command control centers in your body.

I thought the neurotransmitters .

ors were a they are, they are regulate pathways that affect your brain a lot. O and they do working other areas of your body, but in your brain you have something that's like a command center. It's called the hypothalamus. okay? And this is like radio traffic.

And for those of you are not watching this on, I want you to know that doctor haymond is pointing right between the eyebrows. And I think the reason why we all get that scrunch .

chy or inkle right there is because that is the command is a little the .

hyo salam .

hyo that's controlling our sex hormones like eterne, testosterone, protest on and so on is controlling our stress hormone es like cortisol, is controlling our growth hormones, has so vibrate hormones, all these hormones are controlled by this community control center OK. And so what happens, particular with women, is that they only have trouble with their sex horns because of all the stresses and talks since everything in our life.

But they also the way problems are really big and often underdiagnosed. And then you get instance in which is becoming out of baLance as you get hora, the kind of a signalling hormone that that made by your pink ris OK, and that regulates blood, sugar and your body, but IT also when it's had a baLance and you eat too much trigger and started to get this increasing belly fat and weight gain. And that's caused by island.

So women are subjected, particularly as they get into their thirties and forties, to this sort of being bounced. And sex hormones, thread hormones, stress hormones and blind your control hormones instant. Those are like the four horseman of apocalypse. And so you don't have to treat each one separately. If you do the basic things, you get your lifestyle, you eat right, you exercise, you turn stress reduction techniques, you good end of sleep, you'll take your basic supplements you get with all the crap in your life as best you can your home to reset.

What about the kenning in the middle? That's on the father. I've not down with that.

No.

now that he just looked down to see the thicking in the midi.

saw that but that's the infant part. That's the blood control.

So what do I do? Because i'm getting so many people writing about this school because i've been talking about i'm like. This is not fair.

I stopped drinking. Yeah, I have the healthiest lifestyle i've ever had. I exercise every day.

I eat the three quarters of the vegetable clean routine I get outside in the morning I doing at all. Check, check, check what the fuck is going on. Death finally almost change.

So sometimes these things to weak, sometimes there's ways you can to modify your diet little bit or extra how little differently to regulate this. But it's a lot of checking what's going on. Maybe your story a little off or maybe your your insurance little higher than you think and you have more instructor, maybe you need to sort of increase system drone because that is lowest to and that increases muscle mass and body fat loss. So so it's like a symptom that you have to to be a conductor and make sure it's all playing into.

I the visual I got was walk more like the second I hit the ensuing correctly. The you know, I is not like that.

It's not like that. It's actually it's actually all works the other way. It's actually when you when you treat the root causes, then everything gets Better.

So one question for you, if you can't afford to go to somebody and functional medicine to get this all tested, how do you figure out what's going on? Because I know that what's going to happen with this conversation, doctor hybrid, is that we are going to, anyone listening to absolutely take the next ten days of your life and see what happens when you reset you're diet and you will remove a few things, absolutely add in those simple supplements to cost, you lessen a dollar a day, and you are worth that investment in yourself and see what happens.

Absolutely take the steps to lower your stress and tap into your body's ability to reset, like even just the five deep breath a day that activate the vee and tune the vega st. nerve. But if somebody he's going, I wanted learn more, what is the next right?

That's a great question. One of the the change I boys had with medicine is is kind of a secret. Gill and doctors hold the they can harder the test where they can't.

They will give you the results so they won't the'd help you interview them where they won't. And you're at the university of whoever you're seen in. Most doctors do a good job.

I want to help people IT kind of kept in the guilt. So in the book, Young forever, I do have really extensive questioners that allow you to figure out almost eighty percent of what's going on. And then depending on what you find in those, you can kind of follow with different kinds of testing.

But because of this problem, exactly you're talking about, decided to go found a company with a good friend called function health, which allows you, without a doctors order to go to any quest lab in the country in their thousands, get a blood draw of over one hundred biomarkers that Normally cost fifty thousand dollars for five hundred box. wow. And IT comes with a whole interpretive map and framework and dashboard that filter through the lens of functional medicine.

If the testing done, get your results and tracked IT over time. And you can see your hormones, your fight, your influence, your age related markers, your brain chemist. So much about what's going.

you know, not so cool about this if you can afford to do IT and we will put the link in the shown notes is it's like getting an x ray of your insight. Yeah, you've ve already you've proven to us that you hear from the inside out. yes.

Yeah, it's absolutely. And i'm so excited about this approach because it's empowers people to be the co their own health. And the the reality is that you know, even if you go to the doctor with all these complaints, they are going to be able to quote, to manage your symptoms.

I don't want to manage people symptoms. I want people get Better. I will go to reverse these problems and not need a doctor.

And the truth is, most of the things that work are not thinking to get into a doctors office, which is drugs and surgery. So sometimes you need them and I use them to thought a bad thing. But most of the probably you have don't respond very well to that. Mean, they discover over the symptoms. What if you could actually feel out why you're having the problem and fix IT?

Why think you told this? Why it's information, it's a god that's out of work IT is, uh, the stressors in your life IT is the toxins in your environment and not understanding that your body has this elegant design that is super intelligent and responsive and can heal itself if you are conscious and intentional about the right input that's this exciting is happening .

now in science as we're actually getting there like the old pari ms. dying. And the longest space had been working in when I wrote about a Young ever, where these scientists are not talking about what's underlying all these diseases, these hundred and fifty five thousand diseases. That's not what we mean to be thinking about us. These ten underlying problems that tend to go wrong as we get older, that they can explain our disease.

And if we treat those, we may not be able to legal extended by five years by gaining where to cancer, heart disease, but by thirty or forty years that means living to be one hundred and twenty and being aimed good shape like I don't want them to be hundred, twenty and nursing home and a will chair. I don't want to ride my vehicle for horse backrib make love. That's what I want to do when i'm one hundred or one hundred and twenty.

Wow, no, yeah. I'm glad that you said that because often times I hear the word longevity and I had that reaction, I don't want to be rotting away in a nursing home that's unriveted.

Because most what we see melt in the world is abb Normal aging. And we think that's Normal, oh, it's Normal to become frail and to crap IT and not able to do to win and lose function. And the truth is that most of us, our health span doesn't equal life. And the last twenty years of our lives.

what's the difference between .

a health and years healthy? You can do what you want in life, been how you are alive. So if you're vintie, you're sixty, then you get dimension your nursing for twenty years. That's not good. So that's what you want to do, is make your health spin with your life span.

You know, my mother in laws, eighty five years old, SHE jumped, thought her plane SHE walks five miles a day. She's having the time of her life SHE prioritize friends SHE is the definition of vitality at that age. And she's like the energizer bunny.

I I can't imagine her running out of steam and that's what I think you're talking about when IT comes to vitality, we one thing we did not touch on that, I know we going to get a lot of questions on is probiotics. And you ve already talked dr. Hymn about the fact that your micro o bion is the bugs in your gut that break down the food you eat so IT can be turned into energy.

And it's these bugs that keep your immune system healthy and that help your brain function properly. So how do you reset the gut in terms of what probiotic? Or is there a strain you should take? Or what should do? Is yogurt enough? Like, tell.

tell the truth, is male, that most of what determines the health and quality of your microban is what you're eating, right? So you need to feature, got right, you need to tend your inner garden, right? And that's not that hard to do.

What is IT like? IT likes lots of fruits and vegetables. He likes lots of fiber. IT likes probiotic foods like sa crowd, kiki me. So things like that. IT likes probative foods, which you are like the fertilized with the feed, the good box, things like a Spark, an artistic planting.

This goes on so we we can do that a lot to our diet and do not eat got busting foods, things like tons of sugar, process food, food additives, multiple res chemicals, all those things damage or microphone, and then drugs. We're on a lot of drugs, anybody tics as of lockers, and that all these things can really scoop up at my cob ama, I was like ad bill, the the antifungal drugs. So we have to be really smart about taking out the things that bus are got and put in the things that you are got. But the robotic can be a useful tool, but it's not in replacement of the you're basically .

saying if you eat sugary cereal for breakfast and then you have quicken nuggets and pizza for lunch, yeah and then you have like a take out whatever fried, whatever pop in one pro biotics is not going to help.

No, no, everything is really amazing is that we learn that they like python's.

which what is.

there's like a million molecules in colorful fruits and vegetables that are the medicine in food. And these medicines work in many ways in our body and found a lot of the lung ebi switches. But IT turns out that these microbes and your gut like to eat them. And remember that word name x man, here that I was been.

Shame I forgot IT.

But the one that produces this, like natural volume, you go. Yeah, that bug really likes screen tea. IT likes pala, granted, and he likes cranberry and likes all the molecules.

So you have to feed them and you have little quitters in there. You've got to take care of them. And it's what food is. The big is the bigger solution.

And yes, robotic can help and probos supplements and fibers can help, but we really want to actually make sure we we actually take care of IT by eating what we need to be eating. And I had actually horrible collides years ago from taking any boats that screw up my gut. And and I cured IT using a lot of these polio and private tics.

wow. And there's one of the things I want to tell you, dona, who's one of the producers here, one for three studios, SHE has something to tell you, a doctor, mark, kind, a personal connection that I think you listening. You're gonna love this full circle moment.

Hi, doctor hymen. I am really excited to be here today. And this feels very much like a full circle moment, because without you, there is a good chance that I actually would not be here today.

About twelve to fourteen years ago, I was living with excruciating back pain. I was on mad that are now illegal because they created hard issues. I had really horrible asma, so even if I wanted to be active, I couldn't.

I was raising terribly, and I was allergic to everything. I was diagnosed with forty three allergies when I was eight years old, so I was just sneezing and leasing and hunched over all the time, so quite miserable. And around that time I found one of your books called the five forces .

of wellness. I believe that was actually do.

Yeah, so I at that time was divorce, and I was a single mom and had my son in the baxi. And I would play those same four cds over and over again. And I really needed to hear what you are sharing about how the body is impacted by food. I had never heard any of this before. I didn't realized that I .

was supposed to be eating alright.

I didn't realized I was going to be eating Greens, and I wasn't thought to be eating all the sugar I was and all the soda drinking. And so I changed my lifestyle because of you. And I started to go to the gym.

And here I am now, fourteen years later, and I have no more back pain. I'm not a madd anymore. I don't Carry in in haler because my assa is now in remission and no more allergies are not sneezing. We have dogs here today, and there's no way I could be in this place with dogs around. So I just wanna thank you because i've now run twenty seven five cys, climb out washington twice, and i've bite seventy five miles and weekend four times, and I just could not have done that without you.

So thank you so much. And I like story, you know, I think I think it's a big story because what your experience is not impossible to achieve for most people if they know what to do.
