Yes! Mess around! Mess around! That's what we're talking about. Uh-huh! Oh, not messing around. Mess around! Mess around! Mess around! Lordy, lordy, lordy. Hannah. Yes? It's been a time, child. I know. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my mind. I know. You're in a safe place now. You're in the loft. We're having a meeting with our fans. No, let me take my wig off. Okay.

It's that famous, what's that Fresh Prince scene where she like takes everything off? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Nails come off, everything comes off and he's just like, what am I witnessing? The lashes get pulled off.

Oh, that's funny. Don't get comfortable, you guys. We're all together in the loft meeting. We sure are. Answering your questions. And boy, do they have questions. I think most people don't really have questions. I mean, they have some questions, but it's mostly like some sort of cool story or a moment or an anecdote that they like to share. Yeah. And we appreciate it all. We do. Okay, here we go. I'll take this first one.

Hey Hannah and Lamorne, my now ex and I were re-watching New Girl. We always joked that we were Jess and Nick because we'd be on again and off again. I'm adorkable and clumsy with my big blue eyes and when my hair is in its natural color with bangs, I give Zoe vibes. And he's a mess who drinks too much. Nick is actually more successful than him.

Girl, let me just start by saying you ain't over this, man. Relax. Okay. This is too much.

The episode where Nick and Jess break up precipitated ours. It led to a conversation that we also have nothing in common. We left the conversation and he went home a few days later. We were long distance. And then his friend of 15 years, a boyfriend of 19 months, dumped me via a text and refused to answer his phone.

Classy. So wait, his friend? This friend. I'm sorry. That's what I was like. Wait, what? Oh, this friend of 15 years. Oh, gosh. She's speaking about him. And it was her boyfriend for 19 months of their 15-year friendship. Okay. Sent a text and then never picked up the phone.

So herein lies my controversial opinion. Obviously, in the show, we want them to get back together. But if you had a friend who was a teacher who basically gave up her career to follow her boyfriend around Europe on a book tour while he refuses to propose to her, would you be shipping them?

I haven't rewatched those episodes yet. I'm trying to stick to where the pod is up to. So it will be interesting to see if I still think that when I get there. But my memory is that I don't think they should be. Dr. Kayla. Oh, you're a doctor. Dr. Kayla, you need to call a different doctor because you got some healing to do. Dr. Kayla. Dr. Kayla. Well, I don't know. I feel like...

There's two things going on here. One is the show and what's going on with Nick and Jess and their will, their won't they of a TV formula where they have to keep them apart, bring them back together. They have to go through their ups and downs, but they truly do love each other and are meant for each other. And we know they end up together at the end and they do, which is where the shipping comes from. Then there's what is a really unkind breakup.

to send a text and then not answer the phone when you've known this person for 15 years and been together for almost two, you probably could have done that better. Yeah, but it also sounds like... But if he's got trouble with the bottle, then maybe he's not the most reliable person to lead a healed, emotionally available breakup. According to you. I don't know this man. Sir, I don't know you. Yeah, it sounds like...

It sounds like she shouldn't be too shocked or offended, really. They broke up. You said you knew. You knew this. You have nothing in common. What's happening here? The issue that I have is that, yes, you have been friends for 15 years. That's the tricky part. The text...

If you've been friends for 15 years, you should have expected that behavior out of this person. That's true. You would know somebody. And you're saying he's a mess, and so it's messy. Yeah. I honestly don't know anybody who is like,

But me and Chad broke up and it was wonderful. And I feel great about it now. Yeah. Right. If you're not the one doing the dumping, if you got dumped, like I got dumped by Chad. Yeah. Chad be dumping. Chad be dumping. And so I feel like it's no matter which way it was going to happen is probably going to hurt. And then at least it's over and you can start to.

Heal and move forward, Dr. Kayla. Dr. Kayla, if you're looking for a specialist in that field, try giving me an email. Shoot me an email. I'm a specialist in the art of relationship therapy, so couples counseling. It's something that I do on the side, and I don't charge a penny for it. I don't charge a penny. In fact, I charge $300 an hour.

So, yeah, feel free to reach out. I know you got the money. You're a doctor. That's actually quite reasonable. Yeah, $300.

smile first. So I did just a quick confident smile. And guess what? They smiled back. Colgate believes a smile can break down walls. And it's true because instantly the whole vibe just changed. Or like last week, I'm at a coffee shop. There's a long line and the barista's flustered.

I smiled first. A, hey, you got this kind of smile. And they smiled back. And the guy behind me even cracked a joke. All because of a simple smile. 1.0, so that was more tariff talk. Now we are experiencing the widespread tariff action. Totally scattershot, totally random. The theory, Matt, I think is that we're trading short-term pain for long-term gain. That's the tariff theory, at least. But I have a hard time envisioning the long game rosy outcomes if these policy priorities kind of continue. It can be hard to know how to react to news of accelerating layoffs, increasing stock market volatility. That's why the How to Money podcast exists.

We cut through the hype to give you crucial information that can help you to achieve your money goals, no matter what is going on in the world. Yeah, it's our goal to help you make wise money choices that will allow you to build wealth over time and reduce anxiety levels so you can sleep well at night. How to Money comes out three times a week, but our Friday flight episodes speak directly to what's happening in the financial news so you can digest this week's headlines without freaking out. Listen to How to Money on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

All right, we're moving on to Emily. Hi, Hannah, Lamorne, and the Mess Around crew. My name is Emily, and I'm repping Pennsylvania. You never hear people just repping a state? Yeah. All right, well, good for you. Pennsylvania, you got it? Emily.

Yeah.

I wanted to tell you that you guys helped me pull off a Nick-esque birthday present for my fiance. It worked out that you guys were talking about the episode birthday about a month before his birthday and hearing you talk about Nick making the video for Jess inspired me to do the same thing for him. I was able to get 28 of his favorite people to wish him a virtual happy birthday and put it all together. He really liked it. And I told him to thank you guys for the inspiration. I have a bit of a goofy question for you that comes often.

from Max being on Celebrity Jeopardy this season. If the New Girl characters were on Jeopardy,

Who do you think would win and who would not do so well? We know from part one of Fancy Man that Schmidt is insanely good at trivia, but do you think anyone would be able to show him up? Thank you all for this podcast. It's so much fun to listen to. I love hearing you talk about your actual selves, showing up in your characters and calling everyone out for breaking. And now watch even closer to see if I can catch anyone break. Also, Hannah, keep those air horns coming. I echo

echo you every time you do them. Love you guys. Emily. Celebrity Jeopardy. Have you ever been asked to be on? Yes, I have. I couldn't make it. Celebrity Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Wasn't able to do it, but Max was on it. Did you see that? No, I didn't see it. I saw it. Max was on it. He did not do well. He didn't? No. Dumbest boy in school. But

No, I think he did okay. I think he did okay. But he didn't win. We know some people. Utkarsh was on it. I saw a lot of the work. Blake Anderson was on it. Really? Yeah, a lot of the homies were on it. But yeah, honestly, I think it would have to be Jess. Because they're not celebrities, right? They're just regular people. So they're not playing the celebrity version. It would be Jess or Schmidt for sure. Yeah, I think Jess being a schoolteacher.

There's a lot of information that she just knows. 100%. I feel like the fun, though, of New Girl is they love the dark horse thing. And so I feel like you could have Winnie or Cece or Nick all of a sudden. They just are like, they got weird and drilled out on one subject so they could like blast an entire category. Well, what it is, what it is, it's Cece. All of the Cece stuff, like she...

is dumb. Didn't finish school. You got to, you know, all these things where you're like, wait, what? It'd be so funny if like, but she's, but she knows so much.

Right. And they're like, well, how do you know all these? You know, it's like, oh, well, you know, my grandma, when I grew up, you know, she used to make me watch Jeopardy and I used to do this. I used to do that. All these things that you never knew would come in handy until you watched, until you played Jeopardy. Oh, it's like, wait, remember the Price is Right documentary? There was a guy that watched every single Price is Right, every single one. And he created like a whole system and he did a whole thing and he went on the Price is Right. Right. This is true, right? And then he like,

crushed it and got the biggest winnings and whatever. And then The Price is Right came after him and said that he cheated. No, I don't think it was The Price is Right. There's a whole movie coming out. Paul Walter Hauser's in it. David Rizzo. This is a real documentary from years ago. Well, there's a movie coming out called Luckiest Man in the World. Yeah. Paul Walter Hauser. Yeah. Oh, I love Paul Walter Hauser. Yeah. But it's not...

It's about that. I don't know if it was Price is Right, but it's about that. It's about this guy who studied and studied and studied and then went on the show and gamed him so much that they started coming after him. They came after him and they took all of his winnings and stripped him of the whole thing and they said no and he genuinely did win. And so I feel like

That could be like a Nick thing. You know what I mean? Like a get-rich-quick thing. If I could just crack Wheel of Fortune, I'll never work again. And then he'd go on and he could be great at it. So I feel like there could be... I think the obvious choices are Jess and Schmidt, but you never know in the New Girl universe. That's true. Okay. Oh, my God. Do you want me to read it? It's just... It's not...

This is a lot. These are a lot of words. I'm going to read this one. Okay. All right. Skip, this is its own episode. Elizabeth from Wisconsin, I love you, but this is, I haven't had to do as much research. This is, I'll read it. I'll read it. Okay. I want you to know something, Elizabeth from Wisconsin. I'm on to you. She's out here trying to get a book deal. Okay. Okay.

Dear Hannah, Lamorne, and possibly Max. What? Okay, you are reading this while he was visiting. Okay, well, Max isn't here. No, just us. Just us, but we'll relay the message. I absolutely adore New Girl.

It has been my comfort show for well over eight years and is always where I can turn to when things get rough. For that, thank you so much. Thank you for all the love you obviously poured into this show and are still pouring. A shout out to the writers for making it something so special that so many people have this show as an outlet.

My connection with New Girl started in college, and with each year I connected to it on a deeper level. My junior year, I started to date one of my best guy friends of three years, and we have now been in a relationship for over five years. Dating someone that you only see as a friend was scary at first, as navigating through the changes can be challenging.

Watching Jess and Nick's relationship sometimes very much reminds me of mine and has taught me a lot. As we got into our senior year, my housing placement was very unfortunate, but he ended up having a single room in his fraternity house. I ended up spending the majority of my time there and was the girl roommate to 10 of my closest guy friends. Yes, you read that correctly. 10 guys.

Yes, it was a lot, but no, I would not trade that time for anything because it was for the most part a great chaotic time. I connect with Jess on a spiritual level living with that many men, and unfortunately none of them were a roommate like Schmidt.

My best guy friend in the whole world lived in that house, and one of my fondest memories with this show happened with him. I regrettably remembered I had a paper due the next day at 8 a.m., and I had not done my due diligence on it.

He was known to be quite the night owl. So as I was working away in the living room, binging New Girl, I decided to see if he was up and I wanted to help keep me up this... Fuck me. Okay, can I take... Do you want me to take over? No. Now it's the meat of the story. I will survive this. All right, Gloria Gaynor, go on. I will survive this fucking essay. First you ever pray...

He was known to be quite the night owl. So as I was working away in the living room, binging New Girl, I decided to see if he was up and wanted to help keep me awake. He immediately came downstairs and asked me what I was watching. Within five minutes of scrolling on his phone, pretending not to pay attention to the show,

I instantly said, how do you not know this show? And happily restarted it. We ended up staying up until four in the morning. An interesting decision only a senior in college with limited time left could make.

laugh crying and enjoying each other's company to this day whenever he comes to visit we will have this show on in the background as we catch up on our lives some days we strictly communicate in new girl gifts one of my favorites being schmidt's line you know what they call you where i come from a dirty old bitch

I don't remember that one. I don't either. Anywho, my girlfriends and I all have sweatshirts that say Street Youths on the front, and This is a Horrible Neighborhood on the back. Schmidt, while being one of the most infuriating characters, is my favorite to quote. So hence the beginning, hey Max, if you are reading this when he is visiting, if not, I am still pumped to be on the pod.

I have an hour to communicate. Well, it took me an hour to read this. I have an hour to communicate every day and listening to you two makes the time fly. Thank you for doing this podcast. I look forward to the episodes every week. I don't have a good goosebumps walk away because I don't have time to write 20 different ideas down. So thank you for reading. Love you, Elizabeth from Wisconsin. I am signing off.

Lamar's gonna go take a nap. Do you know what I think this is? This is what I think this is. She said she has an hour commute. And so she just left like a voice note that then transcribes into like an email and she sent it when she got home. It's gotta be. She talked for the hour of like, and then this happened and then I went to college and then I dated this guy. Because the guy she dated, we got the whole backstory. We never heard from him. Yeah, I don't know anything about this guy anymore.

we don't know she's been with her for five years but she's watching the show with some other guy who's like her best friend i don't know there was a lot going on elizabeth from wisconsin but what i will say is i know that you are a true fan to write your phd thesis on new girl and send it to us and we appreciate that deeply and the fact that you got all of these guys in the frat

To pay attention to New Girl, which is a great show. Oh, yeah. For that age of men to watch. It is fun and funny and shows how you can live healthily with women. Appreciate that. So I appreciate you, Elizabeth. Lamorne has passed away and he'll never speak again. Yeah, Elizabeth. First of all, I love you and thank you. Why would you make me do that?

Elizabeth, next time you send in a letter, just title at the top, please don't have Lamorne read this one. Yeah. Once I get past like four sentences, my eyes start to go, what are we doing here? And I read this out loud. Remember at the end of each episode, we say, if you have a question, comment, leave us a voicemail.

Oh, see, that would have been great. Elizabeth, if this was a voice memo and we could have played it and listened to it, that would be great. Your sweet, sweet, lovely voice, Elizabeth. Because also tone is everything. Yeah. Intonation. I don't know what your tone is in certain things. There's a lot of punctuation in the wrong spots. Here's the thing. Where's that part here?

Maybe she was like my best guy friend in the whole world. Changes. Who could be laying her down at night? We don't know. We don't know. And so it's best. Take this as a note to all of our listeners. Record a voice memo. Send it to us. Or video. We'd love to see you.

Oh yeah. Video would be great. A video would be great. We'd love to see you. Then we know there's air quotes going around these friends. Okay. And then Lamorne doesn't have to read 50 pages. I feel like Floyd Mayweather reading a Harry Potter book. You sound like your mouth is dry. It feels like it. I can see it. Even in the marathons, when people are running marathons, there's somebody that gives them a cup of water at least every mile. Halfway through, just a cup comes in. Huh?

I feel like I was at a table read. Your heels are bleeding. You just don't know why. You just ran a whole thing. I can't close my ass. It was like a table read a little bit where you're just like cold reading and you're just like, oh, where are we going? That's embarrassing for me, Elizabeth. Why would you make me do that? Well, you gave us a good time, Elizabeth, on the back end. Maybe not for reasons why you thought, but this is why it's a great show in the loft.

I like how I had in the beginning, it was like, Lamorne, you take the first one so I can read the next one. I'm like, yeah, but the one after that is a day long. Lamorne.

You have to read this one. It's for you. You can do it. Damn, Lamorne, I didn't realize you moonlight as the principal at my kid's school.

laughing emoji on the real this man also frequents the same coffee shop as me and I do a double take every time he walks in the door what do you think should I approach him one day and ask if he knows he looks like Emmy winner Lamorne Morris thanks for all the laughs Alexa this guy here um not only do I know him

I think I've been tweeted this guy's picture. Really? I believe so. This is like full doppelganger situation. Alexa, I might ask him. I want to see. I want to. Alexa, I am curious. I do want to follow up on this one. Do we have his name? Do we have the kid's school? Nothing? No. But we can respond. We'll have Alexa's email. Is that Alexa in the photo? Because it'd be so funny if she blurred out her own Facebook. She's like, it's not me. You don't have the rights to show my face.

But I'm going to show his face. There's two people in the picture. So it's not confusing. It's this one. You look like this one. Well, we do. I do. We kind of resemble each other a little bit. I see it. I see it. Yeah. Who are the, if you have to say the top three people that people say that you look like? Michael B. Jordan, Idris Elba. Elba? Brad Pitt.

No, I get Malcolm Barrett, who's an actor. Love Malcolm. Edwin Brown, who's also an actor. Huh. Edwin. If you guys look him up, Edwin. If you Google Edwin Brown, my name might pop up. I swear to you. A-D-W-I-N Brown. Edwin Brown. Okay, here we go. Oh, okay. Edwin Brown. And I mean, sometimes people mistake me for Jay Pharoah.

I get that a lot. I get that a lot. I think it's just because we're both funny people and people associate SNL with humor. So if they see me, they go, oh, funny. I know he's funny. They just go, oh, he's SNL. They always do that. But yeah, the one I've been getting a lot lately is Damson Idris, just because, I mean, we both have great accents and we're both sex symbols. So I've been getting that a lot. Known for your humility, your humbleness. I had something that...

Something that the people desire. Anyway, that's our show. What about you, Hannah? Who did you get? Kim Kardashian? I've had a few over the years. Kim Kardashian when I first moved to LA. I also got Nicole Scherzinger back in the day. It's all those ethnically ambiguous light brown girls. Camila Alves. I got a bunch. Yeah. Camila Cabello? No.

No. I'm just joking. No, but there's definitely been a few where you're just like, hmm. Once, I'll never forget this. I was in college. I was, oh, I don't know, whatever. I was like 20 years old and took a cab from UBC, my university, and

the cab driver was silent the entire time. Didn't speak a word. And then dropped me off and he said to me, he was an Indian cab driver, and he congratulated me. So maybe, I don't know what year this was, but anyway, I just remember he congratulated me for being a bachan now. And he thought I was a shwariyarai. And a shwariyarai is the most...

stunning human period. And the most, at that time, I was also like the most famous Indian woman in the world. She'd just been on Oprah, like teaching Oprah how to like wrap a sari or whatever. And I look nothing like a Shwari Rai. I could not look further from a Shwari Rai. She has like blue eyes. Like there's like, we could not be further apart, but I will never forget that this man mistook me for her. And I was like, this is the greatest. I mean, he must be

fully blind but other than no not fully blind i mean i can see the resemblance i can see the resemblance what are you talking about i could see it a little bit besides the eye color and the beauty i could definitely see um but um but yeah yeah yeah that's cool um all right ashari were you right it's good to see you again hey folks that's our show um if you want to go ahead and go to our website

TheMessAroundPod.com. It's great. You can check out our latest merch. You can follow us on Instagram at The Mess Around Pod. And if you have a question, something you want to say, leave a voicemail. Now, if you want to write in, keep it short. I might be here and we know I don't like to read past four sentences. That's right. If it's more than four sentences, flag it at the top. Say, Hannah, you got to take this one. We need Hannah to read the stuff with words in it.

Especially words past seven letters. Don't do that to me. Yeah, it's too idyllic for him. Idyllic. Oh, my God.

Alright guys, we love you. Peace. That was The Mess Around, an iHeartMedia production. Our executive producer is Joelle Monique. Our senior producer is Abu Zafar.
