Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so you never miss another podcast episode. And if you're out there and you want to brainwash yourself to create the life that you want, to believe in yourself, to get past your self-limiting beliefs,

I just created a lesson that shows you how to create your own morning mindset priming technique and routine. If you want to get it absolutely free, go to morningpriming.com. Once again, morningpriming.com. It comes with a lesson to show you exactly how you can create your own based off of what you want to learn and what you want to get better at. And it's got a worksheet for you to work through so that you can put it into a step-by-step routine.

Today, we're going to be talking about your life's purpose. We're going to be talking about money. We're going to be talking about dreams. We're going to be talking about your passion. We're going to talk about what's the reason why you're alive on this earth. And that's a pretty big undertaking. And, you know, before we dive into it, this is a really big question. And if you look at it the wrong way,

it can kind of be demoralizing and you can look at this world and go, oh my God, there's no purpose. There's no reason to be here. We're just going to die and turn into worm food. You can go that route if you want to. Sometimes people like to go the depressing route on accident. Their brain just kind of goes that way. But for me, what I like to do is be like, well, instead of me just saying like, oh, there is no purpose. What if

Just put these glasses on, see this perspective. What if I am just this soul that just decided to inhabit this earthly body? And I came here for some sort of reason, some sort of mission, some sort of thing to accomplish, some sort of thing to learn about myself so that my soul can get better and go to the next place or move into the next plane, whatever it might be. Just looking at it kind of like a video game where like, I'm on this level of being a human on earth

What am I supposed to learn from it? What's my purpose? What do I want to get out of it? And so I want to tell you this. Before I really started looking at this, my first 27 years of life probably was all about like, how can I make money? Because for me, what I thought was that money meant safety. As I've grown older, I've come to realize that when I was younger, I

I, we didn't have any money and I thought, you know, what would make me feel more secure, what would make my life feel safer was if we had money so that therefore we didn't have to worry about it. So then as I grew up, I subconsciously met, you know, kind of turned money into safety. And so I,

as an organism wants to be safe, when I need to make money because I need to be safe. And then I started unraveling and realizing like, that's not the reason why I'm alive is just to make money. Like, I know the richest person that I know is the one of the most miserable people I know, worth billions of dollars.

money clearly doesn't buy happiness. So going and making more of it isn't going to make me happier. And I think I'm not alone in this. I think a lot of people go for success or achievements or money thinking that it's going to give them what they want in this world. But I promise you this, it's a hollow existence. It never will. And so after I got fired from my high-paying sales position,

because they were, you know, they decided, okay, should we let go of this person? Should we move them? And they wanted to move me. And so I kind of got fired. I kind of quit at the same time. I was like, just give me my severance and I'll figure it out. After I got rid of it and I was gone from there and I was making a bunch of money, making, you know, it was a 29 year old making over $200,000 a year. I had to make a decision. And my decision was I can either, well, one of three decisions, I guess. I can either continue working at this company, but take a different position.

I didn't want to do that. I can start working for somebody else again. And, you know, maybe I'll like that job. Or I have this, I have this feeling that I should follow this podcasting thing. I have this feeling I should go for this coaching thing. And at that time I was, you know, 29 years old. I had been in self-development for 10 years. I had coached when I was younger, 2000 salespeople on mindset and on sales and on becoming better.

And I could do it and I could probably go follow this thing. And for some reason, that felt like the right thing to do. Even though I could have applied for a job and made at least six figures or multiple six figures at 29, 30 years old, I was like, I'm going to go for this thing that makes no sense right now.

Because in 2015, when this all happened, when I first started the podcast, there was no money in podcasting. Nobody listened to podcasts. It wasn't the same as it is now where everybody and their mother has a podcast and everybody listens to them. The majority of time when I would tell people I had a podcast, most people's response back to me in 2015 was, what is a podcast? And so it didn't make any sense.

And this was now almost 10 years ago. And I had this little podcast. It was called, back in the day, it was called MWF Motivation. I changed it to Mindset Mentor because I realized I hate the word motivation. And I was making $0 off of it. No advertisers, no products, nothing. I didn't know how to make any money online. I'd never done anything like it before. And to be honest, I didn't think that I can, I didn't even know if I could make any money off it. But there was this feeling that was inside of me

And I know that you've probably felt this little tiny feeling every once in a while. This feeling that was inside of me that was like, this is the reason why you're alive. This is the thing that you're supposed to do. And it felt like, it felt right is the best way of saying it. It felt, sure, it felt like my passion. It felt like my calling. But more than anything else, it just felt like the right thing to do. And...

I had to follow, I had to like give it a chance. And I realized that I could have gone the other direction. I could have listened to my fears of this isn't going to work, the imposter syndrome of who's going to listen to you. You know, you've got bills to pay. You've got all this. But I was like, I've got to go for it. Logically, looking at like facts, figures, numbers, where podcasting was at the time, how much money was coming into my bank account, how much money was not coming into my bank account. Logically, becoming a podcaster made no sense in the entire world.

I could have gotten a high paying job within the next couple of months if I wanted to. But it felt right. Like something felt right. And I had all of these fears of, I don't think that I can do it. I don't know if I could do it. I'm not good enough. I'm not smart enough. Why would somebody listen to me when they could listen to Tony Robbins? I had all these fears, but I had this feeling.

This feeling deep down inside of me, like, I think I should follow it. And if it doesn't work out, at least I tried. And I don't want to regret. I'd rather work hard than regret. The only thing worse than the pain of hard work is the pain of regret. And so I remember this quote that says, your fears will scream at you. Your inspiration will whisper.

And I was like, man, my fears are screaming at me right now. Like screaming, go back, get another job. You've got a mortgage to pay for. This is stupid. Nobody wants to do this. You don't know any coaches. Nobody listens to podcasts. You're only 29 years old. Why would somebody listen to you? But I had this feeling, this whispering. And I was like, hey, this feels like the right thing to do. Sometimes following your dreams doesn't make sense logically. In the moment, it doesn't make any logical, analytical sense.

Most of the time it doesn't. You know, for some of you that are listening and you want to be a painter, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to quit your accounting job to be a painter. And that's not what I'm saying to do. I'll talk a little bit more about that. If you want to be a musician, it doesn't make sense to leave your job as a, you know, head of marketing to be a musician. If you're a creator, whatever it is,

But sometimes you should try to follow that feeling at least a little bit. I'm not saying, and this is a big piece, I'm not saying quit your job and go follow this random feeling. Because I know for a lot of people,

The feeling of having money come in is safety. And I would rather you have that safety and try out the other thing in your free time. When you get done from work, on the weekends, whatever it might be. Maybe you work in healthcare, but you want to start an Etsy shop and you want to start selling clothes.

jewelry in some sort of way. Well, you can still work in healthcare and on your days off and on your evenings off, you can start that jewelry shop. You can put it on Etsy on the weekends. You can go and you can start a, go to a, a farmer's market and sell some of your jewelry there and see if it works. I'm not saying it has to be all or nothing. It can be

little bit until it becomes a little bit more and becomes a little bit more and then it becomes actually a good idea to leave your job so that you can fund this thing because it's starting to take off and it's starting to fly and

I'll promise you this. Your fears will scream at you. Your inspiration will whisper at you.

But what I want you to do is think about this with me real quick. If you're not really sure what your passion is, what your purpose is, completely okay. I always say that if you don't know what your purpose here on this life is, no big deal at this moment. But now that you're aware that you don't know what it is, it's not okay for you to wake up every single morning and not ask yourself the question, what is my purpose? And journal through it every single day until you find it.

You need to wake up every single day. If it's really important for you to find your purpose, wake up every single day, meditate on it, ask yourself, what is my purpose? And journal through it every single day. You might find out in a week, you might find out in two weeks, you might find out in two years, but at least you find it. Some people never do because they never go on that journey to try to find it. And so one thing I want you to think about is what would you do if money were no object? If money didn't exist, what would you do? What makes you come alive?

And I understand that some of you guys have children, you have families, you have bills to pay. Me too. I get it. I'm not saying leave your job tomorrow so that you can go ahead and make necklaces on the side of the road. But I want you to think about what do you love to do so much that you would do for free? What if money were no object? What would you be doing?

And if you start asking yourself this question, you start finding things that you're interested in, things that you're passionate about, things that you are kind of, maybe I could dip my toes in that. Like for me, if money were no object, I would still be doing exactly what I'm doing right now. People have asked me, if you had one week left to live, would you still do what you're doing? And my answer to that is yes. And the reason why is because I would want to get all of the knowledge that I think could help the world and my son, but

out of my brain so that hopefully after I'm gone, I would still be able to impact people. Now, of course, I'd still travel and I'd still eat and have fun and drink some wine and all of those things, but I would still do some form of podcasting to get it out of me because I love it that much. And I did it for free for the first four and a half years. I made no money off of four and a half years. Over a thousand episodes made zero dollars.

So I still would do it if money didn't exist. I did it without getting any money. And so what I'm saying to you is everybody that's listening has some form of a passion or purpose. You probably have three or four or five and you might be sitting to this, you might be driving to a job that you don't want to go to right now and you don't know what your passion or your purpose is. That's okay. It doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It just means that you haven't found it yet.

So why don't you start searching for it more? Why don't you literally search for like a pot of gold that you know exists? Ask yourself what you want to do. Do new things. You can't keep doing these. If you haven't found what your passion is, you can't keep doing the same shit you've been doing. You've got to do something different because you haven't found. It's like digging, trying to find a pot of gold and you're digging the exact same spot. It's not there. You've got to go somewhere else. Do new things. Try new things. Try new hobbies. You know, put yourself out of your comfort zone.

And then what I recommend is once you find that thing, that is the thing that you feel like you want to do, don't quit your job. But can you come up with some sort of transition plan? Can you say, okay, maybe you're sitting there and you're like, I do know I want to do, you know, the example that I just gave a few minutes ago. I do want to start an Etsy business.

shop for jewelry and do a farmers markets and make money off of jewelry and I do want to be the the next Kendra Scott who becomes a billionaire off of making her own jewelry in her own house Okay, cool. That's fine. You could definitely do that. Everything is possible in this world Don't quit your job today and do it. I recommend that you start it around however, you're making money now So you saw that safety you're still gonna feed your children and you know, keep the lights on and everything and

but make some sort of a transition plan. It might be a year from now. Let's say it's two years. You say, okay, today's date, two years from today, I'm going to leave my current job as a head of accounting and I'm going to be full-time in my jewelry business. Well, now I've got to work my ass off for the next 730 days because I know I'm leaving. And so what I'm going to do is I'm going to take my free moments,

I'm going to ask my kids if they want to start making some jewelry with me. I'm going to start figuring out how to do, get better at Etsy. I'm going to start figuring out how to get better at online marketing, how to get better at, you know, creating better jewelry. I'm going to start going to a farmer's market on Saturday and a farmer's market on Sunday. And I'm going to sell my jewelry there. And you come up with a two-year plan so that therefore you have this proof of concept that two years from today,

is actually making money. And it makes you maybe even just enough to pay your bills. And now you can take those 40 to 50 hours that you've been spending in your full-time job. You can get out of it. You can still pay your bills with your jewelry company. And now you've got 40 or 50 extra hours to grow it even more. You know, some people say, oh, I can't do it because I've got children. You have to understand your children will follow in your footsteps. If they see you work a job that you hate,

in order to pay the bills, then they're going to think that what they need to do is make money in order to just pay the bills. If they see that your profession is just something that you do to make money, they will do the same. They will most likely follow in your footsteps. Even if you tell them not to, or you don't want them to, they will learn by what they see in you. Wouldn't you rather your children do something that they love

something that inspires them, something that makes them happy, something that brings light to their face? Well, you inspire your children by what you do. You can always, you know, tell people what to do, but people pay attention more to your actions than what you say. And so can you tell yourself that you're staying in the professional prison because of them?

If you want, yeah, I'm staying in this professional prison because of my children. Or you could follow your passion because of them and show them what following a passion looks like. Show them what it looks like to step out, even though you're terrified and even though you're afraid, and actually create something inspiring. You know, you spend most of your working hours of the course of your entire life, most of your waking hours, excuse me, most of your waking hours of your entire life working. Are you doing something that you love or are you just doing it because you want to make money? Is it a passion?

Is it something that brings you joy? Do you find it fun? Or is it just like, well, I got to pay the bills. I understand everybody has to pay the bills in some sort of way. Somebody has to feed their children. I understand that. It doesn't mean that you have to stay in that job forever. You can make a plan. You can change. You can be anything that you want to be. You've got to stop acting like you can't. And so I think that a lot of people really need to take a good long look in the mirror at yourself and figure out what is it you want to do in this life. The number one regret of people on their deathbed

According to a hospice nurse who worked in hospice for years and watched people die, the number one regret was that I wish I lived a life that was true to myself and not the life that other people expected of me. Think about that for a second. Tony Robbins always says success leaves clues. I think that failure leaves clues as well. And if people get to the end of their life

There's a book that's called The Five Regrets of the Dying that's written by a lady who was a hospice nurse watching people die at the end of their lives. And the number one thing that they admitted to her was that I wish I lived a life that was true to myself and not the life that other people expected of me. If you don't know what you want right now, no big deal. Find it. Follow your heart. Start to find something that you're passionate about. Start to find something that you're interested in. Start to find something that maybe seems a little bit exciting for you.

And then once you find that, put more time into it, put more time into it, put more time into it. If it's fun to you, if it feels like a passion to you, it doesn't feel like work. It feels like fun. You should have more energy after doing it because of the fact that you've been sitting down and creating this jewelry. If you're sitting down creating the jewelry, sure, you might be tired after, but you can be inspired after. It was fun. It was amazing. You want to come back and do it the next day. You can't wait till you get off of work. So you can come back and make more jewelry, whatever it is that your passion might be.

You have to learn that you've got this one life here. I don't know if there's another one. You don't know if there's another one. There's people that will tell you that there is another one. There's not another one. You know, we go to some place after we get a million of these. Nobody knows. We do know that we have this one. The thing that I don't want to do is get to the end of my life and wish that I would have done more.

And so what you really need to do is figure out what is your purpose? What is your mission? What is your passion here? Try new things and then follow it with everything that you possibly can. And eventually, if you do make enough money to pay your bills, then you can leave your full-time thing to invest more money, I'm sorry, more time into your passion, which could possibly make you more money. So I recommend that you follow that life purpose of yours.

Some of you guys listening right now, you already know what it is, but you're just too afraid to do it. I promise you this, you'll never regret it. The only thing that you'll regret is not following it. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please share it on your Instagram stories.
