So wrong is one we've every time.

And I don't want to be a member of that.

I don't want that for our first member. If you could sign up today, I would be much appreciated. But we are not in IT.

Yeah, you have to join. We just cover the society. We are not members of.

This are official podcast of the fine with an appreciation society. But we we've never tried. Uh, I am a funny idea. Here is here. Hello.

transit here. Hey, what's up?

This is a big one. This is the apple iphone preview episode. Next week is the event a bunch of us will be there. David, note out.

because largely correct .

was like screwing. I've seen these phones before the rectangles, he said angrily, but there's a lot time we're expecting a new iphone and new watch, hair powers and type what all the rumors, all the things are expecting a it's also ef a in germany. I've covered this thing for fifteen .

years .

and like it's a germany, right? We got a team out. They're looking at just a wild collection of gadgets, including, I just saw this, a laptop whose lid rotates by itself like .

like rainbow room style IT to sort of slowly spins around as you is too.

among religion that you put put on a tablet. But I like, what if that but you didn't have to do IT.

I like .

that and you.

yeah IT doesn't. None of IT seems reliable or good, but that's right. That's what's happening in germany today. So you in a whole lighting around the gadgets, and then we get a lighting around unsponsored.

Although I will say to the one person who to see me say i'd now have an entire corporate marketing budget. We're going to spend your corporate marketing. But this is what happens when we do a show for effectively fifteen years.

The people get jobs. So there there's some people who sent to emails where we're excited about this. We talk about apple. Let's start. There's there's a lot of rumors, I would say.

but where the .

the top line is, they're iterating all of the core products.

Yeah, it's it's a weird mo. You said there's a lot of rumors. And my immediate reaction is like kind of because it's a weird year in the sense that if there is something big coming, we don't know anything about IT, like there's not even there's not even late rumors that there might be something big.

And every year there's like that. Maybe this i'll be and there's just none of that. So either this is gonna a pretty straight forward apple event or we actually don't have that much information. And I so obviously.

I hope is the second thing is going to rule though, because like action button n on all models, that feels like a big day.

No.

I don't have an action on IT. So a lot .

of worse, I didn't mean a lot of important. I just spent the volume of rumors is high, the number of things that people are saying will happen is larger than Normal in my opinion.

I think that's right.

But none of them add up to like earth shattering except .

for the action button, which if you are on an iphone fourteen pro like I am, is very .

exciting of all .

the I I post on the site, the a really great shortcut that someone uses. I'm sorry, i'm forgetting who IT was, uh, where they had set IT up so that they they figured out quicker than I did that you can use the action button to open the camera and then again to take a picture. So you can use IT like is a basically present hold and then press and you have immediately taken picture.

I think that's awesome. I so I posted this on the site being like, this is a really cool to the action button. Do you use the action button? And the overwhelming response I got from people is, I never, ever, ever, ever use the action button.

Forgotten, existed. I don't care about IT at all. So you, like you, I know, set IT up to do a ChatGPT thing. Do you actually like use the action bute all the time?

It's with his rich gimp status. okay. So we should just context ize us what I say of all of the rumor button, the rumer be adding a camera button and dedicate the camera button to the pro and then bring the action and to all the models.

So we will get to that, my uc action. And as it's linked to the ChatGPT shortcut where you press IT in its slow, there's something about this. It's fast.

You press IT, chage, vt. Launches at, flashes up the message, just like checking connection and then a wheel spends and you is already gone. You've already like, I don't care about the question anymore and then you can ask you a question and can listen to you that's a little dicey as well.

If you're in a loud environment, people are talking and I create that. But the thing at the end of all that, you asked a question, natural language. And then I just tells you and answer natural language.

And sometimes that answer is a pollution ation. And sometimes it's not. You can close the window, just read IT, which is much faster than listening to the voice and all of that feels like a little glimpse into the future.

I'll give you an example um max and I playing entitled use game together which is extraordinary ily fun um if you don't know game I came years ago. You're just a you know migrant cuse just get him into trouble. Just talk in its stuff enormously fun. It's like grand theft out your goose. I don't know how to describe .

that belongs in that category of games that there is no way to say IT in words that sounds good, but yet IT is amazing.

But if you have a like a six year old, you this is a great game around how yeah it's great rules so haven't found we couldn't figure some possibility. And I just asked tragedy ity, where is this thing in this game? And I just told me the answer with, like bullets cool and there's a whole universe of moral complaints.

You could lodge IT open an eye for scraping all of the work and all of the labor of a million video game journalists who publish lennard. And it's all in the background, but the thing just worked. And so that is really something there's something there.

And I I hope all the people get paid for all work in whatever way. But that one used to the action button, to me, is the most important use to the action button. Like can you have a natural language voice system? Can you actually add a new kind of input mechanism to a computer? Yeah if and that ones really drinking weird, you can very, very clearly see how oh, you can make that a million times Better. I think we're expecting to see apple add these features. This theory, I don't know that will be on this phone at this event, but you can just see how it's gonna get there.

So I I think the reason i'm excited about this because the books palmer IT also has a button like this you can program. And because I have actually .

used to the books I be running .

speed running today .

really gotten .

into the remarkable, don't worry, i'm ready the action button. Can you do just go to home or go to use IT as a back button?

No, you can set IT to run shortcuts, and then you can set, set us like five or six different system model, things like turn on the flashlight. Yeah, I don't think IT has OS level navigation of .

mind and less excited.

I think maybe with some of the assistive features in IOS, you might be able to do something the stuff it's not like top level functionality. Yes.

you could probably rig up a shortcut to go home, but that's a deeply use case. But I think yeah like back as a system, just sure i'm not sure you could do, maybe you could. But again, that would be like weird shortcut hack. That's not just sort of a .

thing that we can in some set of assistance technology, technology configurations. And a lot of time is what apple does. What I think is really interesting in in honestly, really cool.

They piece or they test new ways of using the products as assistive technologies is first, and then they bring them everyone. Because the thing to say about this of technology is making things more accessible is actually Better for everybody. So the things like pinching, pinch the watch started up as master technology. There's a bunch of other stuff across IOS start off as a sig and .

there's like a lot of them.

Just the mouse on the IP double .

on the back to do stuff is another one. There's a lot of .

a lot so that my figure al not saying i'm not a hundred percent sure, but if IT was going to be somewhere will be in there.

I think yeah yeah.

make sense. But if they have limited what you can do with the action about in the system model to just a handful of things and then you can run t shortcuts. So when I push IT, IT runs the ChatGPT shortcut, right, which is fine, but it's not like I push IT in the computer knows what I want is it's like i'm going to run the shortcut that opens to everything.

This is what I say again, that shortcuts is a failed experiment. And apple should be ashamed of itself for not doing Better with shortcuts. Because what you just said is either you can do one of four things or you have to have a master's degree in computer engineering to be able to do anything else with your phone.

What's first, to be clear, what's first happen is the the up developers ship the shortcuts, right? My chat G B shortcut is from open eye, right here. IT is we've add of IT to your system, my very shortcuts.

And what they wanted to do is map to the ashman. And so like they're using the the pathway to get to that button the apple provides. But you still have to know a bunch of things about shortcuts in the opening. I built the shortcut and IT is there. And you can, instead of being like I am looking at the list of things that can do, and one of them is open ChatGPT.

exactly like there's one of the things that you can do on the mac that I think is the Better for this is basically just walk IT through a menu set like you can set up a keyboard shortcut to anything, any menu in any APP on a mac just by saying I wanted to be this command, like that's how short cut should work and IT just doesn't. It's kind of like that just way more complicated.

So i'm looking at the actual the action you can turn on silent and ring, which is classic, which which boring. You can switch a focus mode, which is one of those features that other people are super into or do not care about classic. And by the way, we focus want to have been this reasons like palm list devices because that's what .

came from um I had my set up to turn, do not disturbed on enough and actually that was great basically just as like I shut my phone up thing, I like I changed nothing and do not disturb except I turn on notifications and sounds off.

So you in the idea that you're going to push a hard button on your phone, as which forest is like very fascinating to me, picture to camera, which is I think this is the reason everybody sets IT to camera because of the default ices, is the thing that makes the most sense for the most people for sure. You can have to turn on the flashlight, which is just lack of your, you wanna seem like an old dad set up putting the flashlight.

You can launch with my much school, you can run the translator, there's a magnifier which was fun to play with for a day. And then you turn, you can do a shirt cut, uh, and then you can add the other accessibility features. I can set this no action.

So just of these choices, anything makes sense why camera is by far the most important one? yeah. And that also what IT makes sense that apple is rumor to be adding a dedicated camera button to the proof fun.

But so this is the reason I asked so is because I think we're at a such a deep point of maturity with these devices that again, this is purely anecdotal, just based on my own experience, is talking other people. But I don't think the attack rate of the action button is that high. And I think in part because it's the button that is too high on the phone like that, I will die on that hill.

They put the button in the wrong place. But partially actually because we all know how to do all those things on our phones already, right? And if I launched the camera one hundred times a day, learning a new pathway to get there is actually more work, then it's cracked up to be.

And I think one of the things that apple is doing this year with a software is making all those bits and pieces more customizable. So you can do more stuff in the control center and you can do more stuff on the lock screen, and you can change the two things at the bottom that were flash late in camera. Now those are customizable.

And apple has this idea that, like, okay, we're going to give more people more tools to do stuff however they want. And I wonder how big the group of people who are going to make those changes and me thrown about them as versus the number of people who are just like, you know, what were seventeen years into the iphone? I can't know how to do things.

None of this actually matters. And I think the camera butter is going to be the most interesting version of that, because if the rumors are true, it's not just going to be a shot button. It's actually gonna like pressure sensitive. So you be able to like press once to press half, press to focus and then press to take the photo, which is like a genuine value add on top of anything you can do on the phone. Now it's .

just jane will .

be touch sensitive for you.

There's a lot of rumors, yes.

but apple is going to put in like a fancy button, but no headphone jack. When they fell, the room for the bus hurt me. I did. I did.

yeah. I mean, at this point, the if you believe the future of this, the technology and story is multi model AI having immediate access to cameras so the phone can look at things. If you see the future for the industries are having immediate access to, you can see what you're like, okay, I need I need to make this a button.

It's hard to understand why the action persist of the adoption rate is so low. And you like funny to me that one of those options isn't just open an APP. If I had a button on my phone that just opened, it's more rules.

You can do that with shortcuts, right? But this is, this is right. Go back to black .

shirt cuts as a back to the other system is opposed to, I don't know, like I think a lot of people, ten to use like one APP a lot yeah in the idea that you can just like make this button open that up from the jump from your locks. Rain is kind of weird. And I I think it's apple is just sort of restricting that a little too much and some hopeful that we see as the action button gets more useful in one way and they move all the camera usage to the other button.

you can otherwise it's the touch bar again. Isn't IT I always .

you going to two carrots tons on the front, right? Just me. A lot of people with pro phones who have effectively two camera button on your phone, right?

They like this one when i'm feeling spicy. This one when i'm feeling not spicy.

This is the newly button and the non newly button.

I mean, I was a teen. I I believe that there's gonna like us for protective here.

We got we did .

that we finally understand was driving I phone development. It's these two. We will be announcing some description offerings .

later in the shame.

Ah so the the highlight features the two button coming the fence. okay. I think that's what everyone is expecting that the leagues we've seen case leaks where the case manufacturers are having to deal this potential capacity touch sensitive button on the proof phones.

Then obviously, we're seeing camera upgrades, potentially a new ultra wide Cameron the pro, potentially a big zoom upgrade on the prom X. I would say the thing that i'm looking for most is processing upgrades. I don't know that was going to talk about this.

I think iphone photos are they're just starting to look a little wild, and I think people are noticed. I think like lots people are noticing. I think ah we talked to the highlight developers process zero. They are the minimal processing system in that APP is like a huge set and I think it's these people like, oh, photos of shadows are pretty yeah.

Like, what if my photo looked the way I think that was going to look when I took IT? Like.

what a crazy idea that would be. So I am really curious to see if apple response any of the trend for all of these cameras. I think they all kind of look the same now.

And they all, for a minute, remember in google, first to the pixel, they were talking about what artists they were inspired by, oh yeah, like the like paintings and shadow and use of contrast. And there is a notion that cameras would have different looks. And there I wait a minute, what if we do pony island and now they're all incredibly bright yeah across the board, there's like no dynamics. So i'm just interested in to see if apple search of dialog back because i've heard the criticism and when the criticism is in both like kyle shaker writing in the new yorker and alex earle seeing her beach videos look great, like the crisis is hit, like the full spectrum of amErica yeah .

yeah one especially for apple, which has for so long kind of hung attack on being the one down the middle, right, where where google and samsung both got very kind of opinions about what photos s are going to like. Apple's whole thing was like realism and and and beauty and everything was going to be great and and their idea was like, we're just we're gna touch IT up, but we're not going to change IT.

And I feel like they have tipped over that line over the last couple years, particularly with the fifteen. And I think yeah like I like the photos less on the iphone fifteen, then almost any iphone before IT. Yeah.

I haven't up. great. Becky has a thirteen. I used to be made sure at the new one every year.

Because what do we do? Take pictures of our kid. yeah. So there is like, we should always have the best. Then we just stopped at the thirteen.

Like IT is the most restrained of the modern ones, but it's still not that restraint. Oh, i'm just curious about this. Like you can you can throw hardrock CT at this camera, but it's the processing pipeline that is actually more interesting now.

And I don't know how they are going to talk about IT. I don't know if they're going to diverge in the regular in the pro. I'm just a very curious to see where this goes.

Can you imagine the pro like good photos? The regulars is just like no daylight low. We don't believe in highlights for we take the highlights crick all the way .

of the honestly there there is a version of that, that I think is completely possible because a bunch of the rumors about the camera are about the camera hardware that apple is getting increasingly good at doing. Ti tiny optical zoom lens s inside of the iphone stack, and that is able to actually build Better optics into the phone.

And in theory, if you can do Better optics, you can do less processing, which gives apple more v way to say, we're going to do lesson photos we're going to look at. Whereas if you go down to the base level photos, it's just not gonna as good. And so IT is, my definition, going to have to do more work. So like if apple gonna have a process zero type thing, I can absolutely imagine that being a pro only.

So I ve heard almost exact thing really.

I just made that a bit, seemed logical. But have you heard actual stuff about this?

Yeah I ve just been talking with some folks um and we have to see how goes the new front. You are correct that apple is getting Better optics. You are getting Better doing the thing inside the phone like building the action camera hardware.

But they're ruthlessly optimizing IT to collect as much light as they can. Everything else we're going to let him go because they can fix IT in the pipeline. So apple's view, this is much like google view, is they're not building a camera. They're building a whole integrated imaging pipeline and you know has some goal. And if you can compensate for everything else except like collection, then you should just ruthlessly prioritize light collection because that's the thing is the most important thing. And then you can fix fringing ing or distortion or whatever else might happen at your lens level because you have all the light, right? So you you can mathematically correct a bunch airs you get in the actual hardware, but you can never really mathematically correct for I didn't get enough light.

That's fascination. You're basically just turning IT into like big data problem. And it's like, okay, the the more late we can throw this problem, the Better we can do, which A I would not say, makes me hopeful .

for the idea that we are going to something that this problem serious piece, but not being ready for an image like editing everywhere. And you kind of get to this place where the iphone is already by kind of like doing a lot of sharpening in text and people see the text is weird. If you over sume on an image, you can see the invents faces and weird ways, but not quite places.

And people are what is happening here. And it's like a bunch of the image processing was gonna ride. So i'm just very curious with this phone in particular, apple is not shipping bunching apple intelligence, but they are right on the cusp of IT.

So this is kind of the last phone that's gonna take pictures, right? Like straight forward pictures. And then every phone after this is gonna like pictures, what happen? Intelligence or work, whatever the next thing is.

And i'm just curious to see if they pull IT back a little bit so they can go forward in a different traction or if they just stay IT with that. Have you seen the sky? Look at the sky. yeah.

I mean, IT all does make me think of like do remember that our project we talked about, I don't know, got a year so ago that IT was IT was the camera, but I didn't have the lens. But every time you hit the shutter, IT would like collect your location and mapping data about where he went out of the satellite image, and then stitch that into a photo that feels increasingly close to wear. All of this is going.

I would like, remind you specifically, David piers, when I wanted to spend five hours talking at some, some taking photos of the moon, you were like bad. And now you have just to prohibit the moon situation. No, no, no.

When you said you wanted to do that, we all bought to cos and then did IT at southwest.

Southwest now. Had a person to kill in the David and then we thought about some some generating images of the moon instead of tos of the moon. Um uh philosopher conundrum because every photo the moon is technically ally exactly the same because the moon doesn't change, right? Oh again, he went five hours. You with.

we know. But really all that stuff increasingly feels less like A A weird thing and more like just where all of this inevitable ably is going.

Yeah then I think I think this camera in particular is just A A moment like this is for sure that the next camera will have a bunch A S stuff built into IT. This one, they're not shipping a bunch yet. So what what's gonna? What's what does this destination look like? Yeah, one.

And apples already starting to do some of the the like A I post processing stuff where you can move things around and remove them from photos. IT has a lot of this stuff we've been talking about google doing uh and I think it's IT can be really interesting to see a how good that surface on this camera and be how close is in the pipeline. Uh because like google and others who have have been putting IT in other apps and and making IT like a slight sideline feature, uh, apple, we will see how quickly this becomes like just a Normal party, the image taking process .

faster and other stuff. We were seeing rumors, again, lots rumors, that there's going me colors, like saturated colors instead of all the pale stuff, particularly in the regular sixteen. And the pro Price will come in the muted colors marker man thinks there will be a gold.

Yeah been one single life and back some minor improvin ce of screens, displays in the room over the big rimmer is that everything is going to get little bit bigger. So six point three and the little I uh in six point nine on on the the maxes, which is fascinating. You know they already due the process phones at six twenty seven, so we'll just see where they land on a much of screen sizes. But I think they're trying to differentiate the plus from the max because I big phones are just the thing people like as much as we complain about them.

People love a big, but that has to .

have a maximum people's hands, maximum like not. We can all, all a basketball.

but some of us can.

They will have a few, many .

people aspire to. Obviously, the next turn is folding of.

right? Yeah that's what .

twenty five twenty six I think was and that .

might be a flip before it's fold because that is the correct and good thing.

Different and the picks .

line fold in the office rules like IT is a beautiful piece of hardware and like they got the aspect ration on the front right. He was just like, I never a forbid. Like this is the problem.

So what's funny is I was, uh, I was at the doctor the other day, and when the guy checking me and found out what I did, we started, I am the tech, and he had motorola new razor with the big screen on the front, and he said exactly the same thing. He was like, this phones so awesome, I never even opened up.

You just have, like.

an original iphone based. You just want the binky .

of having a giant food I just like everyone needs has the binky of wanting in an android tablet. There's one thing that is a deeply reassuring in our technology is a state of android tablet that will always work. Ah absolutely great that I mean, that's the phone. Those are the phone number, right? We're expecting the big screen action button on the regular sixteen core button on the pro, some upgrades to wifi and blab lab, but really, it's where we're adding buttons to everything.

They might change the camera, right, like they might change the positions of the cameras.

You the rumor is that we'll do that to make special videos support Better.

But like you don't think that the reason .

I think they just overtake the cameras every couple of years issue?

Yes.

I think there's just a wheel with three camera lens spin this year. IT looks different now. I mean, there's there's reasons that orient these cameras in all kinds ways, but I think they strive to make obvious vial changes more often than we think because the dumb consumer psychologies is if IT looks different, you think it's different, then you open up in its I O S. Well nothing here is what they change. Um so IT we'll see.

I do think there are there are two interesting A I E grids that uh have been removed. One is obviously the new chip. We we saw the m four in the ipad and that was like a whole big A I story.

The rule for this one is that it's it's still gonna a serious chips, but presumably there will be a whole big like, oh my god, look how fast that is A I story about this one. Uh, yet again, we're in a place where it's like when was the last time you need at all of the horse power of your iphone? No one does ever for anything who knows and then the other .

ChatGPT short cuts does .

take all of your processing that yeah that's real um and then the other one is A A rumor just really earlier about apparently there there's some indication that there's going to be a much improved microphone uh which for me is a person who uses syria all the time for like reminders and random nonsense. And if indeed series is going to be like the core of apple intelligence as a lot of people are expecting and big redesign coming this year, like Better microphone goes a really long way towards making a lot of that stuff really work, which I think would be very cool. But the question then is like, is IT have you have you made like a very slightly Better micro to apple, like solve something here, that and they .

saw something matter first. But again, if you think the future of input is multimodal AI, where the computer you can setch a computer where can see stuff, these are little upgrades that actually add up to an idea, the whole idea, which is they're more ways to communicate with this computer about what you want. And IT will have more ways communicate back at you.

But apple intelligence is in shipping. Oh, that's actually the question of these products, right, is you're announcing iphones. You're going to announced a basically a bunch of its upgrades.

See, really nice. And then the big software turn that makes them worth dying that apple, I think, is banking on driving a huge upgrade cycle isn't gonna be here. We're not expected that into potentially all the way into next september.

Like the roll out of IOS eighteen apple intelligence features is just going to take a long time. But like the big ticket once, what now what are we going to get today? We're not getting the apps complete in the series.

So you can talk to syria and have an executed bunch of actions across rap like that's not that's by year, right? yeah. What are you going to today is at summarizing notifications like I know .

that those are already seeing people on the beta get the summarized notifications is so funny because it's so not helpful here. So many of these things are like, I send somebody at seventy word long text message and IT summarizes IT in fifty eight words, like, what if we accomplish here?

This is nothing we're not in.

We're not doing anything.

Copy editor is very please with that you like twenty, that's nice.

And yeah, and I think with all of this again, like we're still very much in this place of what is any of this for, right? And I think the thing that has been true about apple forever is IT has done a Better job of telling me what this is for story than anybody else.

And even with the iphone, IT is a very good job of explaining to you why you need all of the incredible processing power on your phone that you're never going to use is why they have the games on stage, is why they did the A R stuff on there for years like they do a very good job of being like, here is the thing we built and he does why it's going to matter in your life. And I don't think that quite landing at wwdc, whatever did land is not shipping yet. And so like this is just another crack at that same story for apple and both how IT has refined that story over the last few years and whether IT has figured anything out to me like the big question of this event.

I had one more thing to IT, and the amount of times apple and other companies have shot themselves in the foot trying to tell that story totally, because, you know, google got in trouble with for the genie. The olympics were the dad as the AI to write a letter on behalf of a little irl. Two Young on never like this is garbage, like don't do this. Apple has had a number of ataturk ted controversies lately.

And then one of their demos for summaries is apple intelligence, summarizing the Steve jobs think different speech he had from the ad and so here's the crazy uh what like joon summarize that that's the art you know like the even though it's a commercial like people regard that the very emotional well and being like here's what we can do now we didn't make that dummer is not actually the message you're trying to send. And so I think apple l is looking pretty of this and saying, okay, this is the real shot to communicate to customers. Dob T V C is for developers and hard corn nerds. And you are listening to the show, and that's you. That's just you.

but we love you to love you, right?

And that's the first cut where they can be technical. And I can talk about token sizes and A, P, I and all the stuff. I, A, W, C, the iphone event is we're going to put this thing on local news broadcast around the country to be like, look what I can do and I don't think they know besides, like read my boss's email and giving the bullet points of people right? If I had a shortcut, if I set the shortcut t button to just be like, no, but nice.

I I just just mode through my inbox be really good like that would be great. But can I tell that story like I don't know. And so I think that's going be a real question because the feature is aren't shipping yet, right? And so you're still kind of concocting these demos about stuff that doesn't exist yet for a phone that might not to be able to do IT. And that is, I think, a real puzzle.

but also seems like they may potentially plough through a little bit of this because we're seeing like a lot of other devices rumor like more than I usually think of for an apple event.

great. Okay, that's the phone. So I just want to rap up the phone is a question marking IT.

Which is like, how do I can talk with A F features, aren't there? The rest of them are accept the airports, which I think we're expected. Someone of redesign the apple watch seems like another bump .

right there.

Three bump. Yeah that's the one spot where IT seems like if there is going to be something new and exciting, it's going to be in the watch like there's been some is there you know apple watch series ten, series x wild thing to happen. I think that is probably not. But there's been like a little bit of smoke around. Maybe there are some surprises in the apple watch line coming this year because it's the anniversary.

So the big rumor that they we were going to get blood pressure monitoring or sleep ponied detection in both of those are sound pretty dead in the water for the share because .

they're in a giant .

lawsuit with the company there in a giant losses. And like blood pressure monitoring, they haven't gotten fda clearance or anything right. And and they have to you can just be like, yeah, we can test your blood pressure.

No F T A approval, that's i'm going to happen. So yeah, that sounds like they were trying to line to bunch of stuff up through the the the the apple watch ten. And I just sort .

of yeah that feels like what are going to get is a very minor bump to the ultra because basic I mean, the apple watch is like the best luck in story of all time. Yes, if you have an iphone, you can only buy this product that there is unless you you know unless you're one of people wants to buy garment in which you buy a garment and use IT sometimes is then you might solve IT. I watch like good, weird, right? So like their need to competition ly upgrade these products is very low, and then the products are really good, which is just a pretty disastrous one two punch of wanting to see like huge upgrades.

Yeah, IT does seem like the we're gonna get a bigger regular watch to be the size of the ultra, which is both cool and sort of alarming that I hate, truly hate that we are going to Normalize these gigantic screens on our like me, I, I can read your watch through riverside right now. Yeah, I can see what's on your watch that can pause. This is not good. How are we doing this? Yeah, this is just what we just down ten coves.

Watch at every event, what's on their body and look, I like make the apple watch a black and not buy anyone great.

That's what I want. I have product of rumors about colors.

Um ah there this is a rumor that will see the apple watch series ten or the series x which is the ten anniversary. And I like magnetic bans and be thor, be the design jump. And I I strong think that in the time of sort of like declining sales and and like upward going services revenue that apple's desire to do that is quite low.

Yeah because again, the product is like perfect locking. Like what are you going to do? Some cooks staring you that me like her. You're living with an iphone. Would you like to buy apple care set of airports in an apple watch because you can buy anything else?

Yeah, I doubt it's very popular to first buy a watch and then buy an iphone, right? So it's not like they're trying to sell some who is that person? This is what I mean there not like the input is to get people in.

If you trying to make the apple watch great is really like, okay, there are bunch people who will switch for an apple watch and I don't think that exists. I think like the apple watch is not the first thing. So I feel like either the ipad of the iphone is one tiny category.

And I saying this because it's like the third developmentally school here, parents are buying apple watches for their kids who don't have phones there. Track the devices is texting devices, then you just in the system.

then they got her. Yes, that's something. And now is that I think is like the beginning of something potentially big and interesting, uh, but that feels very new.

And I think we're going to see upgrades the apple watch. I just think it's all going to be pretty sure that is my bet. There is the rumor that you'll see the big upgrade.

We'll see you because the airpower seem like the bigger change. Yes, right? We're expecting new airports um airports s four, maybe airport, maybe new aircraft s pro and IT. Seems like that's where you're going to get the design change. And I think that is partially because that they're still in competition. You can get other blue to with your butts and there are, in fact, lots of really good ones out there yeah so you can see a little competition and obviously proves haven't changed a long time.

But if they change the design, what are all of those like horrible knock offs at several eleven? And onna do .

immediately trained to be good news about that industry is, boy, is IT.

Yeah, exactly. The the factory in china, zen, across from apple factory and shenzi is on reddit. Uh, so airports, s four might have noise cancelling. Uh, they theyll be more than open your designers on new year. And like all the way in the way that the process do.

what would be a big deal, right, if the the a nc plus theyll like hang on your year instead of sticking IT a super hard to do, Chris. He was pointing out in our like the other day that lots of companies have tried this, and basically no one has ever done IT very well. Uh, as somebody who hates the year blocking of the airports.

Pro, like I just don't. I just don't like feels bad my ear, they make my ears like hot pressure. I I don't like that, so I used the hanny ones, but then I don't get any of the nose cancelation. So if you can get if you can get the best both words there, that's pretty awesome. Yeah but super hard to .

do technically, i'm looking in the airports. Three, maybe we'll see the ads, more sensors to complete the health story that apple try to tell. All of the stuff potentially in new case will see what I don't know is going to Operate the area podds max, which I have not touch in a million years, and should use lightning there.

go. It'll just get, like A U. S, B, C. Update.

can make away five thousand pounds a choice.

Some of those weights beats, wait.

forgot, the beats sweet in the heart. And they can make a case good. A, lots of things .

you can do to a little .

person here. Would you like your headphone .

to be dirty?

They sure will. We forgotten to put them in a case. In this case, see.

I mean, there's a special audio story to be told here, but that seems like of all the things that we expect to change, the area pod's line up is the most right for actual change. Yeah because it's a thing you can not want people lose them. And then when you lose them, you might buy new headphones. And when you buy new headphones, you actually have .

choices in yeah and again, if apple is trying to tell this like big multi moto A I story, headphones actually up being really important ah and my big hope for air pod s max has been det like that could be a place where apple can start to do more like local AI processing inside.

If you're headphones c give me the the airports max that can do some of that stuff just inside of the head fus like I want airpower d max, that has all the software of an apple watch in my headphones that is that a bad idea? Probably, but that's what I want. I want to just be able to run with headphones and nothing else. And they could do that in the max.

Would you tap on the little airport p and send a heart beat to your life?

Yeah, I just sent my heart beat to kill. I like three.

four times a day. It's weird. A weird black out video I go daily loves me. The other one is, I since see, really doubt this will happen. But an m for mac money is on the list of things I like.

That's october. That's october.

I think we'll see you maxon tober that's from the yeah .

I will be shocked.

But you know if they they don't do anything with the phone IT would make sense to do the .

in for there's just been a lot of smoke about the mac mini, which is weird. So I I think like we're obviously do for a refresh of mac books, right? The m four is out there. It's time for all of this from like the studio on down.

Uh but the mini is the only one that anyone is talking about right now, which is maybe just like a function of the rumor is in the way that these things work in an october vent is not that far away. So IT IT could very well be. But this one is particularly just sort of out in the either right is also .

the one that's getting a major case redesign, right, like the other ones aren't getting big .

case redesign and that if if you believe it's gonna get a big case redesign definitely happening in october. Yeah that was very good at being like look at this thing yeah one thing at a time.

I think it's really likely that we're just seeing a lot of smoke right now because there's a lot of leaks because it's a whole new case, but it's going to happen on october or not.

That's my bet is that apple wants all of your attention to be on the iphone, which makes all the money and services component of the iphone, which which makes all the money, and that is what you're going to pay attention to. And then october can talk about whether not they're going to make A M for mac money or twenty seven and try make or whatever i'm just saying because I definitely wanted you something. Try just trying to speak IT into the world.

That's how I feel that the end for mac mini, I give IT to me now, please. The rumors that is going to be like closer to the size of an apple TV and it's just going to have a bunch of U S, B, C ports like, yes, that's yes.

that's all.

Inject that into my fence right now.

Make IT under a thousand dollars please.

I feel I use all the ports in this mac money.

I use all the ports and I have a dangle in my mac and like underworld .

dog plug into a mac mini because I use all the ports of the mac mini. I think i'll talk that is IT. I mean, that's the list of things. David, you have some proms here to which I will answer both with the same answer this well.

we play a version in this game every year, which is basically ah just before we get off the apple stuff. We're going to a give ourselves something to be held to. So we each have to come up with, uh, a prediction that you think genuinely will happen in I you have to think it's going to happen, uh, that we haven't even talked about. And then uh one thing that you're desperately hoping for but have no evidence is real. Ah i'll go first and then and then just to give you guys time to think about this um my prediction that I think will happen that we have been talked about as I think we're going to get a ted last season.

I was mine.

I don't know what it's going to be IT might just be Jason suda us just like saying four words because they haven't shot anything.

This is trailers now. Yeah we the back of his head.

I may do you remember the apple event where, like, they all just stood on stage and said we're making A T V show. I was one of that for a year in the name of all of the shows. So could see he's .

not going to be in IT very much. He's parents like doing .

something we called like dead lesser .

the river is it's probably it's gonna about a woman's football team.

It's just dead letter in the several university got dead .

lasso just dead. Yeah I ve just I was very excited about ted last yeah there .

like any good company, they're just go back to the world.

They just signed all those people in the last few weeks. IT feels like this is where we're going to.

Apple is just speed running the T, V industry, right? Like they're pissed off George clinton and bread pitt. congratulations.

Now they're bringing back the hits like this is great of them uh and then the thing i'm desperately hoping for, but have no evidence is real, uh, is I want a cellular connected set of air pods. Uh, I I want, I want a thing. I will switch to apple music you like.

As god is my witness, I will switch to apple music if you just let me stream directly to my headphones. So I want this. Is that a bad idea?

Yes, but I wanted, anyway, I don't care.

Diary, the brain, I like you go.

Would you get a my prediction, a one thing that am hoping that will happen and we haven't talked about .

no one thing you think will happen that .

we haven't talked about.

but has to be .

real yeah you have to think it's onna happen.

Okay, apple TV home .

screen upgrade.

Oh.

okay.

that they you want to, they would have an answer. I W V C, but their way, overdo and the scent, that stuff around yeah.

Can I just say, by the way, I bought an apple TV because I was on sale from verizon for ninety dollars for some reason, a plugged into my crap TCL roku T V set IT. So that IT just goes straight to that input when I turn on the T V. And now suddenly my T V viewing experiences, like seventy five percent, yes, boy is really bad now. And boy did the apple v make IT. I don't think .

we have talked to him very much. Show our own will jol, our senior craig rta, will jl um hazara co. TV. And the thing happened to him where I just started motions using this, also happened to be in my sister's house, the forth joy, where her worker TV just turned a motion thing.

So he wrote about IT, and he wrote, the people in the forms are mad about this motions just being turned on. And rocket tvs, they not yet in the follow, but they got back to somewhat irritably. And they are like we have not turned on motion smoothing. We've turned on like per frame interpolating.

which is motions thing.

It's the same. We're not emotional footing. We're to going into the spaces between frames and making up additional frames. And it's like that emotion so you want to write IT up, but rois secretly turned on emotions, a million of TV with no way to turn off another deny even did IT thrown out. Good lets.

they're too busy that add money they get. No, they don't care.

A that's why prediction we have to talk about on the closest. I think really I say one thing that will that happen, apple will definitely not announce a single other car maker has taken them up on next.

Okay, i'd like this. Is this the one that are hoping for but have no evidence is real? Someone, please do god.

Uh, I mean, I will say the decoder and x right full of car makers like, let us justify what we want to in .

the same who would you like IT to be if you could be C E O for a day and make somebody adopt the new car play for either good .

or chaos reasons? Which car make to a who have some of the ugliest in car interface designs of all the mainstream cars? It's like just tell your designers that lower case letters exist.

They refuse White.

We're just doing all caps software, everybody all the time just lower its that's the level we're working at with all .

I like IT by times what you got.

right? So my prediction that I think what happened was also a ted .

last so so I said.

yeah I I voted down. I won't be very clear to make IT up.

Jason. Do us will be there.

That's the I don't think you will I think if they have anything had him because like SHE has never turned down a oppressed or if somebody d's like he, you wanted show up, he is going here for you.

Maybe sh'll be the musical act of the end.

We should get an of, what can we get her to .

come on average? Yes, he he would.

SHE seemed like good people. Yeah yes. Will make IT happened live. Let's get that .

time touch up.

right? And one thing you're hoping .

forward have no evidence is real. A robyn .

the apple.

just because I really like the rabo meta glasses, but the meta AI is sucks. I want to talk to seri. She's also sucked. Excuse me, siri also sucks and is not a gendered. But IT sucks in a more familiar way.

What sucks in a way that .

actually access .

to other apps on my phone? Yes.

bet is like I can play your spotify that's IT. But I didn't .

do my no evidence for the only thing I every I predict this is every apple event I have a decade. Just make a TV. Just make a TV.

It's what are you doing, guys? You love services businesses. Do you know every TV maker is doing right now, they're just doing services. They're given a way for free. You could charge real money, tim, do you I know T, V cost three thousand dollars and people would buy and still pay for your weird new cable. Wonders that you're making but not saying and that you're .

making you they get to spend all their money on the we are cable bundle.

They can afford the tvs. Apple releases an ipad at studio display size. Is that a television?

What is the too? I mean, every TV is just an Andrew, a tablet. okay.

But like I feel like if the tablet is larger than the child holding IT IT goes into TV territory, that's pretty .

dependent on the size .

of the child yeah .

but like so what you're think as my child gets older .

at some point of stoking T V, it's the tb like size .

of driver. The size of time in age is like the z access. K in four dimensional space, this is a TV is what you're .

trying to say exactly .

and set make a TV IT is IT is almost company that the one category that they can thoroughly dominate, they are just like a health care. What what's funny.

for all the reasons, IT actually never made sense, given the company that apple is to make A T, V. And actually now kind of does.

right, you are going to sell a giant computer that hangs in the wall and that people pay money every month to use. Yeah, just just do the thing please. I beg of you.

K je monster needs this .

pana sonic is making tvs again.

Somebody would just just owns the brand name .

is making those TV. So it's like whatever will do IT if you remember us and the pants on IT was great. Okay, uh, we should take a break, will be back here, incredible graduating .

and come up.

OK, we're back. We're already over.

We've got a lot of people .

asking me how long the shows supposed to be in the answers. We're never gonna tell you that's it's the joke. You will notice the show who's almost very consistently the same like .

but we're always over. We are always over.

but never as long is supposed to be. The other thing is true as I make the show longer with this fanning about how long the show is going to be um when we make IT shorter, everyone else at us. But then we asked people for you on the show, they tell us to make IT shorter. So we are just trapped in like a paradox loop of feedback where the show can only ever be this long, but it's never long enough and it's also too long.

The other thing people need to understand is you're just doing this all the time. Like me, I is just sitting in front of a microphone talking about things all the time. We just occasionally record IT and then and then ship IT so we can be as long as we want. Yes, but it's .

also just always imagine what our meeting like let's stop in a new life verge casting the no one alright it's eva which is uh german word for graduate show um sure um we got a team there. There's a million adjusts being announced. I think we should do this as a lightning room.

We should go through all except the first one. There's no chance or going to get through this enlightening fashion because IT is a remarkable paper pro, which alex is headlines is as outrageous as IT is luxurious. Alex.

what is going on here? Okay, so they took the gallery e ink display and then everybody knows that everybody knows .

is is the street .

yeah like when I go to .

the gross, you start people like do you think gallery is coming this year um and I say yes, I finally like so so there's two types. There's two ways to do color, color on e ink. One is you pushed the black and White ink pixel in the eating against the color filter.

That's how colo works. That's how like anything from books or cobo. And probably if amazon ever does IT, that's what they uses collado. Because IT works really, really fast. Then there is a gallery which looks way, way Better.

The color is very cooler because they get rid the filter and all the pixel being moved to are actual color pixel of san yellow and magenta. And that's what they did here. And usually you don't want to do that because it's slow and sucks but IT fast bit fast when I asked there like .

we can't tell you trade that the magic .

they are out we .

call IT the .

canvas text stack um and and I don't know, i'm not entirely I have some theories of what they've done. I've been playing with IT a law. I'm going to keep playing with IT, but I just IT works. But there's like a really a noxious flashing problem with anything that you write in color. Anytime you write an color IT like has to refresh the entire display as soon as you stop writing that.

thanks. I like that. yeah.

But then for just regular writing IT IT works perfectly.

but IT looks great. I mean, like you've just been like holding IT up into the cameras we've been talking and like the screen .

looks awesome and i'm going to pull up another photo because I just keep doing that poorly. Um was at the office other day and I was like me look and like, please just stop showing me color pictures from like like that just looks like real nice art. Ah, it's nice.

It's just real pretty. Yeah, it's one of us. Don't buy IT. Please, please don't buy this. This is, this is not for Normal people, but this is such like the fact that they pulled in off is really cool.

yeah. So to you.

don't buy that point.

I do. I I want IT more than .

I am proud of. So the thing remarkable has done really well is like relentlessly focus on of doing a very small thing really, really well. Like the remarkable tablet all the way back to the first one is like a theri medio a reading experience and just like deeply lovely to write on a the the keyboard case, I have only used a little of use of a lot more um is wonderful by all accounts. So it's like as a as a note taking machine, this thing is really expensive. It's what five hundred seventy nine dollars .

yeah starts at five seventy nine without the case like the typing case is like two twenty nine yes.

really like a one nine hundred.

Don't do that. But but .

that's the thing.

And like I just I even if you don't buy IT, I appreciate that remarkable is just like we are going to make digital hand writing note taking awesome and have like done IT that kudo see you remarkable. You did the damn thing great up. I have the remarkable too here and I love IT. I never write my hand because my handwriting is awful. And I find myself using this thing just because it's really nice to write on.

but it's actually pretty. I also have awful handwriting because as a child, I want to be a doctor, and I thought you had to have bad and writing. But IT actually does a really good job of of of taking that and putting them into a text.

If you do to do IT like IT IT, IT sucks a little bit, but not like awful. And it's just like IT does the one thing really, really, really well and IT does IT executes its so wonderfully and takes this technology that I never thought I would see being used this way in doing IT remarkably very well. Now .

yeah.

it's great. I did. I did the dad joke. So you're .

going to review IT, I assume. Yeah.

yeah, I did like kind of a many review of IT. Only been about six, six, seven days with that. At this point, I want to be more time with the but it's it's a remarkable tablet. If you've used another one, it'll be the exact same thing only now .

it's color OK honor announced a super thin falda ef a is very cool. We're seeing put IT right next to while we had answered trifled phone and also got that the .

thing ifa does like when etha is that it's best etha is the time where they're like, go u sila americans, you don't get to have the good adjudge. Ts, yeah yeah.

That always makes me sad, right? It's like you have locked on some networks and from having the cool funds, you know think I said earlier, the big line fold is great. It's like the end of that road.

I think the same with the new samsung folds, like the they're done. They we figured out how to do that thing. They look as good as are going to look.

The hardware is great. The form factors are getting there. And now they're like, what if you folded IT twice? What if you made them thinner? Like we're just adding these refinance out to the the form factor.

I'm not sure that the form factors were the revolution in the phone industry that ever is hoping they would be, but I think the trifle is really interesting, right? Like what if you can get to a landscape tablet in this form factor? Is a car wild? But if you can make a theory.

you can hold IT yet more, more time. They didn't actually show IT, right? They showed glimpses of IT. Well, andy law is just thinking about how much he loves movies.

Yes, I think the the official reveal of IT is I think the day after the iphone event, so will have that to talk about next week also uh, but is there's a video we will put IT in the show. You should look at IT is just you get a brief look at IT close and a brief look look at IT. And it's like very thin and very cool and very futuristic.

I have lots of questions. Yeah what about crisis? What if instead of one crisis, you had two crisis? Would that be so fun? Probably not.

The time definite does a crease TCL, we d love a new paper phone? Apparently it's not in here, in the pools. Pm, a fan club.

welcome. Yeah.

trans. This is just your segment. I'm so wanky, inefficient display ideology do we have here there they're not .

the only one's doing this like a whole bunch of people at if you are like we're doing color e and you're like, are you and they're like we're doing electronic paper and you're like, okay, is that just an LCD and you took the light out, you're like, yes, that's what IT is um yes, with next paper, duck paper always have called that. All they're doing is putting a map finish on the display that's about IT. In this case, there's a button and the button will turn everything mono rome and make you look more like a books. Poa.

wait, you forget the best part. What is? What is the button? What is the mode? The button .

engages maximum .

eating maim de.

Max ink mode.

Max ink mode, don't give me regular amount of ink, give me max ink.

but then there's no in at all. It's fine. I'm fine with the um TCL been doing this next paper thing for five years now and it's it's it's not this is .

their moment. We the book's pala finally kicked the door down and it's now the next cycle is everyone is going .

to max moone seeing, like I heard I spoke with the folks, remarkable of the announcement out of ef a this idea of of drawing our attention away from the screen and in doing doing a dummer scream, a simpler screen is is really starting.

Yes, it's because the iphone is like, what if your screen was alive? Yeah, it's trying to bang you. And then one else is like, what if IT looked more like paper? And i'm not sure how that there are two very different directions. Yeah.

I don't think they're ever gonna meet that. I don't. I think what's gonna en as bunch of old people are going to get eating stuff about you, Young people are going to get the phones that bang you. Um I got real ages there. I don't know where I am on that spectrum yet.

I would say my in, is that recent history, is that actually old? Who have we are relationships, right? One that said in this section, then we should talk about the wave of lunar wake laptops.

This is my favorite. One of olive fa IT is D. G.

I has a new sophie germ. It's a hundred ninety nine carbon neo. You can launch IT from upon your hand fork thirty.

You can do preprogram staff time circles, a video of IT hitting a tree and staying alive and completing its little preprogram do a circle around my flight path. All that's whatever great. I mean, i'm a sucker for these I will provide by one. But IT has voice controls and the voice the act, the the wake word for the voice controls is hey, fly.

So my brother said.

I haps through one time a for I just love IT. It's really smells like there's a photo time is putting in his pocket in the idea that gonna pull out a drone from your pocket, hold them like I fly and it's going to take off and I do three, six year and you this is all i've ever wanted from technology. I don't always going to work. You know, we have to see IT. Yeah but I love that.

That's the weight word that is very good. And I I appreciate like Thomas wrote IT as if IT is it's two separate sentences. It's like you point out that you go, hey.

fly you're just you are demanding .

that IT fly and I love that very confuse c of course .

it's easy as so it's a drone itself is is one ninety nine. But then you got to buy the battery thing and the the handle controller and you're going to a lot of money in this happens to me every two years on the dot. And then I use a thing twice.

But that is so funny to me that this thing and the new go pro launched in the same week because I have the exact same opinion about both of them, which is that no one cares. There's this like small group of people. They have already hit whatever product market fit they are ever going to find.

And we had this idea that action cameras, we're going to be a mainstream thing. And then we had this idea that drones, we're going to be a mainstream thing and they just orange. And that's okay. And I think this won't be fun because it's two hundred dollars and IT seems to be very easy and very resilient. So like if if there's ever going to be a new group of people who buys these.

I I just I I just wanted I, anna, push back just ever. So just this because I I broadly agree with you, I watch a lot of car videos on youtube, and the presence of action cameras and drones that you can destroy has made car videos on youtube infinitely Better. So I would just like to say, I think they should keep going.

Oh, I think they should keep going. But I think this idea that like I mean this this thing the D J eda ship is is the snap pixi like IT just is that but IT works with not snap chat and thus will be more successful. But like there's this idea that or if we just make uh uh little flying self fie camera easy to use, everybody will .

want IT. Just not true. Just like imagine fifteen thousand people in the chapel around show me like, hey, fly .

at once, just as all those little just .

take off. No, I hope he does. And I hope, I hope they pay some artists dish a song cle.

Hi, fly with for the drain. It's my dream, right? Lunar, like, so I just a color in lunar little bit.

This is intel news. Laptop ship. They need to compete with windows going on ARM. And the new quon ships, the a ipc that qualcomm is doing. There is a lot of color about intelligence to having an struggles lately.

The most important thing to know is that I think lunar lake is being made by T S, M C. Like intelligence n, making their own chip, which is a big deal like just a huge monumental deal. But like here's the next way of these laptops, the big promises about Better life and performance obviously performance for what? But the reason this is something making the games on the on the most advances process node. So it's just a weird these are like historical computers because are the ones that might sign like the end of intel. Us, we know IT.

Yeah weird.

And then I just need to point out the one novo auto twist A I P C is a motorized to and one that way I still.

i'm looking a picture of this thing, and I still don't understand how IT works.

I think who nova was like, well, we've already put one gim c in here with a eye. What about a second gic?

Len just likes to see what they can do. Linear loves a gimmie sometimes.

especially for a big show and wait. So this is basically like apple's center stage thing where the camera will follow you, but it's for the whole screen.

all the expense around on the base, looking at you with a, with the power of a man.

okay. Now what needs to happen is razor needs to make a circular trade meal desk that you just walk around all day while your screen slowly follows you in circles. And then everyone.

if the tread mill also charges the screen.

Now we're yeah yes.

So our fox spent time with that. And I just want to read this sentence. The concept unit responded to voice commands within a second or two, but the motors are slow, taking about ten seconds to transfer if you want to.

The the video is just like, it's so slow. You're like, sure, thanks. Slow novo are .

then extra had a couple as well, right?

They have one gets called project do all play in asia. I love because I always forget that they're like they make OK laptops. They make really wild gaming laptops. And this one is he just .

got like a controller in IT. No, sure. Imagine if the track pad underneath the your keyboard on your laptop just popped out and became a game controller.

Yes, that rules do. No, no, it's on that idea. I love you so much. Where do the joy six ago? What do you do with the but so when I talk.

I have a lot no pictures of this thing with the controller.

Dot is the mouse .

if you need to use a mouse. wow. Okay.

you don't you just keep going.

I guess the middle, the controller, still a track pad?

Yeah, I put again, amazing. I love IT. No, it's my favorite thing .

that happened. I can see how to display.

Yo ard releases the controller and causes two what speakers to pop out from the sides of the laptop.

Oh, I know PC cards, slots.

There are little.

they look like little handles .

that you would grab.

This is great. I so I .

that's not the point. I know the point is that when you take out the game controller are built to the keyboard, duck, two little speakers pop out in R, G, B, lights.

slights. I hope they hope when they do IT, I want to see the person didn't play in this at starbucks yeah leaving their whole tower behind. There's ring in this thing. They're playing fortnight .

with their friend. okay. And then here I do with talk mon in all one one more time. Ah they announced a bunch of fourteen and P2P, some have lunar like, some have the new step I an x, some have the M B rise in A, I three hundred and rees, quite a name. IT claims all of them have twenty four hours about life.

That's not surprising.

Do you believe this?

No big battery life has been like one of the ongoing claims. And evo, like dell has said, its battery life is getting Better with all these things. If this is true, it's awesome, right? Like if if we're going to get to the point where all of these things do these like table takes things very well, but then in intel, common A M D, to compete and sort of do the different things that each of them does, well, that amazing. Uh, I have absolutely zero reason to believe that that is actually the case.

I also one point out these claims are fundamentally unmeasurable. Um so for the intel swift AI laptop is the quote is twenty nine hours of video playback, twenty three hours of our pressing. The AMD is one thousand nine hours of our pressing, twenty seven hours video playback, and the clock one is one thousand nine hundred and a half hours of our pressing and twenty hours video playback. I just point out this requires someone to watch videos for over a full day on three different computers and browse the web for nearly a whole day. And I don't i'm very motivated to test these claims yeah also .

I think I don't .

know can do without breaking the labor law, the united states.

I in some .

kind of clock orn situation.

you use to go pro. I use them to do these test and we would just point to go pro at IT and then the next morning come in and like, be like, okay, let's see if he recorded IT and sometimes I didn't really okay, guess I tested again. This will be fine.

Let's yeah, that's fly.

You just stare .

to get us and watch up .

in a video play. I don't even know for our video play back is a useful step for anyone in the world.

I D A. I was once, and I think there was a lot of reviewing reviewers who are using video playback is like the primary way to do battery testing for a very long time. And so like but also twenty four hours isn't a lot nowadays given the size of these batteries. Yeah, these things should be able to like do this IT should be relatively easy for them to do this if they put a big enough battery in the laptop.

No, I I really understand why in the beginning when video play, because I particularly hard .

to do so I was like .

a very heavy task. All video play back now on on these computers is being ready to an ultra efficient, specialized part of a chip that is doing IT for almost no power.

Well, the only reason their useful is because they're apples to apples, right? Like this is a thing we've dealt with for forever, for like as long as the verge has existed, how do we benchmark battery life in a way that is both real and uh, actually like objective apple's apples, it's impossible. You can't do IT. There's just no way. So you have to do the thing we're like, I ran this test that doesn't mean anything, but is at least one to one and then I just use IT like a person and try to a report very is every you have .

ever anerly commented in one of a lot trip views. But why we continue to play shadow of the two matter IT is exactly for this reason, totally. It's just we just picked a game, and that's the game, that's the Monica picked onesta monitoring. Take that game. And I were going to play shadow with the two matter a couple times year for the rest of her.

Some chAllenging, like graphic stuff. There was like the chess locks. They trust the hair today. I, T, I like these numbers.

what they are meant to say, as we are not competitive with apple. But I think IT is astonishing, that is asia is basically saying IT doesn't matter what you use within a few percent. We're getting the same bad rely from not only two different people like x six chips, but also the armed chip and the armed chip.

Is worse on the web closing test? weird. I just don't think IT is that this .

is actually worse than intel.

And protest is is an our worse in the video play that test as well, which is not what you would expect.

I don't think that is weird because I think all of these you've all been kind of coming to the same conclusions on how to design these chips. You've been designing the chips very similar early the last few years. They're putting these all in very similar devices like IT kind of makes sense that some would be a little Better, some would be a little worse.

Maybe somebody like just got hit with too many ads on the A M D, one in the cocoon verses til one for web browser. And that's why the battery life is higher for intel. But like it's not super surprising. I think that is cool. I I do think it's cool that they are claiming twenty four hours because like a couple of years ago.

they'd be like we got six yeah and that that's cool.

Like four times more battery life in in four, five years. That's awesome, but a hard to test.

I'm just saying I think these laptops are real make a brick moment for rental. If they've actually managed to compete with ARM, compete with santron, that's a big deal. That, that means that they are going to, to be dependent on tmc. If they haven't managed, I don't know what happens next.

Well, we're trying to not be dependent on see, right? Like they they said we have to do this because we just aren't there yet, but we're going to go build all these new fbs and we're going to get there. So this is most to be like there, their placeholder.

right? Can intel build the favs and hit .

the protestants?

Yeah, see that. But I these are important that people are gonna ts of these. Tom is gonna add lots of no pad columns about what's going on the windows and in tell because the industry is gna turn around these totos es and on't we have to take a break where you come back with a true .

Over back lightning ground. I'm going to start with the first one try thing is very funny as now we track on activity here very closely to verizon once decided that fires was not a teacher sold off a bunch of fires assets and customers in bed everything well technology we like to call five g uh which you are call was first enable everything from robot surgery uh which to self driving cars which only happened in two cities 5g and all you just name IT you just name IT number five, by the way, the camera retina iphone sixteen pro supposed to be where the will meter wave in tennis right now? I don't know what meter wave is going to go over. See if you going to still be there. But do you remember all this?

Sure do.

yeah. Ah turns out to do complishment. And now verizon going to spend twenty billion dollars to buy frontier, which IT sold a bunch of fios to hans vesper.

Gc of rising says the acquisition of frontier is a strategic fit we will build on rise and two decades of leadership at the forefront of fiber. It's an opportunity competitive in more Marks. And I said the two decades of leadership were building the network IT sold the frontier and is now buying again.

yeah.

So survey zing was like, what if really fast wired internet was not important? And then realized a decade later, that very fast wired internet is actually like, pretty important india.

They are investor. I often accused of being hopelessly biased in favor of wired connections. IT comes up on the show a lot that I think wired connections are good and reliable headphones, for example. As also painfully brought up earlier.

I think two of the official stances of the verge castle are more buttons are Better and .

plugged in IT um when I covered in the starting was accused to be in the pocket of being calcite as I plan to have the wired eternel is more liable in sending internet to space, which seems obvious on this become .

cat a yes right?

So I basically rising was like all in on the 5g bet hi it's unsupplied thought this was gonna whatever what was going to do and they started some of his assets and they thought they weren't turbo。 And the reality is over and over and over again that in particular, wired international connections are what people want.

Like if you give people the choice between some weirdo wireless line of site I R ten internet connection or like fiber to their house, they will always pick the fiber. And so just been more durable over time. And IT doesn't I don't think I actually is an out gn fig like I know we're going to get details because we mails a lot of people have like five g of interconnections because I ve have no access to the other thing in the five year. Home and action isn't not great.

It's the same thing with starlink. If you if your options or nothing and starlink starting link is great.

but if your options are starlink or fiber, a lot of people pick the fiber and the fiber is very useful. So it's just like rising, just got higher on playing and is twenty twenty million no circle?

You know, it's not this is this is a total tangent that we shouldn't go down. But just a thing I realized as you are explaining that is like you just describe what happening to the whole tech industry and A I right now is like, what if we threw away everything we were good at? Because A I is going to change everything about everything forever.

And like, you want to know, you wanna what? What happens when IT doesn't? Is this use twenty billion dollars to undo your own weird ideas? They saw these customers to .

frontier and twenty fifteen for ten and hf illar dollars and three by them for twenty thousand dollars. Frontier now.

And yeah, I mean, I didn't go bankrupt in the in there and .

then .

have to go to a whole .

restructuring, hasn't gone bankrupt at yeah you're .

sending .

the bank of the see forms from your yet, you know you you're fine. I just I .

just want to a talk briefly about Snapchat. So I was on the show with me two weeks ago, I think uh, and one of the things he said was basically like snape chat is both more popular than ever and also maybe in more trouble as a business than ever.

And I think there is no Better way to look at that than, uh, a note ever speel posted on the company website that we reported on uh that one of the things is going to do is start putting ads in your chat lists uh which to me, one of the things that has been like untouched, able in a messaging APP forever like ads in the messages and ads between the threads in my inbox, have been two things that companies are very afraid of doing that google does IT in your gmail a little and everybody hits IT. IT sucks, but like snap is about to start putting ads in your chats like with your friends and basically haven speaker's reason for doing IT was late. Our businesses bad and investors are mad at us about IT.

And IT is the whole thing just like weeks of desperation from sp chat. Uh and I just I think that is fascinating. Like this company is absolutely ubiquitous among like a certain generation of internet users.

IT is everywhere among like my my high school age. Ney is like snapshot is how you live your life at that at right now. And yet this company just cannot figure out how to make any money. And it's just a really, really small.

And they can do the one thing they should do, what is charge fee, right?

Because many of views are seventeen and and every quote is the growth of our digital advertising business is one of the most important inputs to our long term revenue potential, and investors are concerned that we aren't growing faster. Like if you're if you're A C E O of a big test company writing like a here's why we're doing a product to think that's not what you you say. And when you've gotten to the point where that which you have to say that like you are deep down the road of, like, yeah, what choice do I have like this that is .

our snap is puts a snap on the good and sale the going only sale of dom streaming services, I understand is not .

about snapshot .

but seventy five.

seventy five. And I think snap, snap chat as its own public company, as is, is at a seventy five. And I think if we were in a different world of anti trust regulation and big tech questions, snap probably would have been bought by somebody at this point.

Hi I google would have brought and killed snapshot .

yeah so I think seven five might be a little high but only because of like bigger macro o reasons i'm going .

to say sixty five I think I think it's so sticky .

IT is so still it's you like you cannot overstate how much people love such ject.

But it's only sticky for the people who actually use IT. And not enough people use IT.

It's not growing. Nobody tons of people use IT. It's again, IT is more popular than ever.

It's huge. IT just can't make any money like this. Is this to me is the fun.

but that huge hundred million.

like it's huge, that IT is sufficiently large. It's just that teens sending each other silly, selfish, is not a monodist able business.

IT turns out.

And so what are going to do is there came back to this idea. Yeah, the question now is basically for snap is going to be how bad can we make this before you leave? And that's like that's a sad place for company to have to get to. And IT really feels like that's where .

snap has gotten. Yeah, I will say if they don't let up some kind of actual subscription, they will be past sixty five or something very quickly.

I mean, you know Snapchat plus is like it's a thing.

sure.

There's never really been any energy behind that.

Yes.

that's sad.

crying.

What you um bringing on the sadness was concord concord you may have heard about in the last eight years but because IT IT was going to be be a new live service game from SONY and they spent over eight years years making IT and then he came out and they've already pulled IT within a month coming out because you know but he was playing IT IT hit at the wrong time IT didn't have any of the cool features um like when I started. I don't think fortnight and pub underground even really a thing for most people and that all happened since then so IT came out the wrong time. It's been IT had a disastrous launch and has been bad.

Just boring the problem, I was just boring. Yeah.

I was just like they're been such a glut of these free to play live services video games. Everybody thought that this was going to be a how they we're going to make all of their money and over time it's been like, oh, wait, no, a few of them will do IT and some will call out their little five doms. Some will be fortnight, which you know everyone under the edge of fourteen plays.

And otherwise, it's like there's not a lot of room for this because there's a finite number of people who wants to play video games and then that group get smaller and smaller than more specific the games are. And then you need a lot of people to play IT and order, make IT interesting. And then this happens well.

But I also feel like if I rewind a few years ago, the big idea in the industry was like, okay, live service games are the thing. And what's going to happen is, is the same thing that happens in the gaming industry, right? There's gonna a big one and then there's going to be the next big one and then there's going to be the next big one and there can be the next big one.

And IT turns out like, no, there's it's just going to be fortnight league legends the whole time. And minecraft is is going to keep being huge and robots is going to keep you like it's it's just been the same handful of giants for so long now. And I like IT.

IT is astounding to me how big those games still are and how much saying power they've had. And IT just feels all these companies made the right they like a bet on the right industry. And we're just completely wrong about how I was going.

Yeah, yeah. In this case, they were just way too late. Like conquer eight years and development for our lives. Uh service ah D O game is just that way too long and also isn't .

the listen from pub g just like ship your shady game and it'll be find yes.

So ship your game with a innovative new business model in a dynamic new game play mechanic before anyone else.

yeah.

And then twenty .

years doing this at night is a different lesson.

But IT sounds like this may be like teaching. This may be that one of those moments for the video game industry, they may be going, oh, wait, we don't need to do this, but have been E, A still exists. So presumably we will get .

a someone who just bought the, which is so hard. Yeah, I will say no one wanted anything. I will say SONY, by the time when listing this astra bottle, be out for p five. That game by all accounts looks to be the game of the year.

People are obsess this.

Me ah I I been playing another player with max. So about controller obsess, i'm very exact by this game. And it's like a totally different lesson like what if you made a jewel like platformer with a level character that had innovative game play mechanics.

the intendo yeah it's a what .

if we made mario again and I understand saying make mario again? It's like.

fine, some of that thought .

dress a park again exactly the way I was when I was eight that should say of the movie industry. But it's finally it's so he's doing both things at the same time yeah then one of them is going to be a way back or hit in the other. Here's my last one.

I just want to all that we are deeply committed to covering the feed divers and all things open social web uh and this one is very small, but I think IT has glimmer of a big idea ah it's called the subject club. It's from the company, makes math, the mass and ah it's paid social feeds. So one of the things I think about all the time is people who tried to on a platform for four media over friends of subsector, goes through whatever and the way that that dynamic usually works is the social media is the marketing to get to trip to a news letter.

But the social media is often the content, like it's the thing. And no one is figure out how to like monodist feed at all. You know, you like paid twitter posts that never take off that there is that.

But there and there's some of this and some of the platform ers are some kind of premium subsumption stuff. But none of IT happens at scale. And certainly one of IT supports to anybody scale.

I think the idea of the open social internet interconnected federated networks having this built into them from begin as super powerful um on the idea that you subscribed some creator and as part of that you get open icily into one of their fees that you can subscribe to anywhere as opposed to just on twitter or just on youtube or just instagram. That's a big deal. I know I don't know this ones going to go anywhere.

I'm i'm just excited to see the ecosystem is starting to generate these new ideas about what could you do if all of these networks actually work together? And one of those ideas is like, what if you could pay creators strictly? And what you get is also their social media and not just like links to the stuff that you pay for somewhere else. yes.

Yeah, this ecosystem is like finally starting to product ties in really exciting ways. And like the other thing the launch this week was uh reader, the R S S reader APP R E E D E R, the guy who made IT. It's like the best R S S that exist, uh, made a new one that is all just following feeds. So you can like instead of IT being in R S S feed from a website, you can now follow like you can get a youtube scribe scription in there and you can get master on feeds in there.

And it's it's another one like you you put a bunch of feeds in that are all these different things and I just renders in this one multimedia timing and it's one of those things that like turn your brain until like, oh, I get IT now yeah and like, wait, you're talking that is the idea of like, if, what if I could pay for just your stuff, right? It's like you can put a podcast into an activity, pub food. You can put a video into an activity.

You like all this stuff. I just, I subtribe ed, do the things that you make and then I get to consume them and you get to make them. And everybody was like that. That's the stuff. Man, yeah, that's the thing that gets to me really excited.

And I know that people are going to plan. You can do something, some patron, you can do something that way. And like the thing is, all of those are close networks like you as a crater of to give all of your business youtube, we're all of you to pay, train or if to manage lots and lots and lots of different platforms.

And the idea here is all of these platforms will support these core inter Operable models, all then us to happen, all thing happening. But I just were committed to overcoat because these climbers of what if IT was different are starting to become real. Like you can just see them across the ecosystem like, oh, this is where investment is, that isn't we're going to spend a trillion dollars stealing everything on the internet of train.

Oh yeah. Like this is much more like, what if IT was sustainable to make things for other people on the internet is just not we are hasn't in this kind of very sincere engagement that for a while, oh right. Ah, that's IT weird.

Miles over six hof, our chest. That was real. We got to go. We got to get on planes.

We the apple event next week, we got stuff to right about ef is gonna keep happening, you can recover age of the matter speck and feels like every time. Then goes a trade conference and a different matter executive shows up and promises going Better. That's on the website. There's more gorgeous on the website because if IT is ongoing, check in a lot, but we got go that's IT. That's a very just.

And that's IT for the bird cat this week. Hey, we'd love to hear from you. Give us a call at eight, six, six bird one one.
