A walkabout is a term used primarily in Australian culture to describe a journey taken on foot by an indigenous person, usually undertaken as a rite of passage to demonstrate their readiness for adulthood. It involves a period of wandering in the wilderness, during which the individual learns about the land, culture, and traditions of their people. It gains a deeper understanding of their place in the world.

In contemporary usage, the term walkabout is also used more broadly to describe any journey taken on foot for the purpose of exploration, self-discovery, or adventure. It may involve traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures, often with the intention of gaining a fresh perspective on life.
