farming and just go work best. Let's go from the the most boring ing stuff at the beginning. Pixel buds up. What was the buds up?

okay. So yeah, they put out update. They have two new colors. IT comes in .

postal and bay now. nice.

Meaning lue, yes. Because the bay area that's for blue, yeah. Pacific ocean water, yeah. Wet, nice. Anyway so um yeah. So the software update is that they now have a the context aware ambient mode. Um basically, if you start talking IT will it'll turn on transparency mode and then another person can talk, you and I will keep on transparency mode.

But then as soon as they stop talking or after you stop responding and goes back to playing your music and having IT in in noise cancellation, it's exactly what apple added in the area podds a couple of months ago. Yeah I used IT at the event the pixel one. Yeah okay.

How was IT um good? I like my biggest issue with this is that IT takes like a good second and a half two seconds actually kick in so you start talking and then IT goes, you wait like a bitter too. And he goes, but and then in ambient mood, people start talking.

And then you wait a little bit after they stopped talking. And I was, and it's just kind of, I don't like, I don't really love this future for the same reason I don't like IT on the airport air pod s pro. The exact same reason I don't like IT on the airports pro. The consistency is good, right? Like they want to to of the whole A I aspect of IT is that they want to know IT is always you talking if you want to go on transparency.

if you start talking, then you probably want to hear things around you responding. So let me turn on .

But I just it's no okay, i'll say two things. One, I tried the the airports version. I thought I was really, really good.

But then two, also i've tried, there are other headphones that just like, I think they have a conversation mode where the second you started talking IT just poses you music. And that's good enough for me. I not like singing along, or like accidentally trigger ing IT, usually ever so unlike on a fate.

Like my habit is just like as soon as the fly. And then I looked up, I just take the headphones off. But now I guess I can, you can do the cup, remember? But you know this is is a clever way of doing that. You writ is exactly the way I was done IT with add adaptive going um I think it's cool. I think it'll be turned on by some people, I think to be ignored about the people but it's future to offer.

Feel IT, it's one of those things where in the decades of airports and the pixel buds pro, it's like really good isn't good enough IT is this needs to be like perfect because it's already kind of awkward. Do not pull your headphone out when talking to someone to me IT just seems rude, but I don't use any of these. I will always pull a headphone out if .

i'm trying to talk to somebody. There's actually a bit of conversation around that with like is IT rude .

to talk to people with earbuds thing there is a small I don't know how small is, but there is a subculture in certain cities where everyone walks out of their headphone in all day and ever takes them out yeah and it's totally Normal for them to talk to someone who has their headphones and and they also have their headphones and that's Normal. Lot of times it's airports. A lot of times it's whatever else I feel so really doing that. This future is designed for those people who think it's totally Normal. Yeah, I think there's .

The other version is so on tap on the shoulder and starts talking and you're listening music and you don't hear them until you somehow managed to activate the mode by talking.

That's that's a good question if you are because it's trying to pick up your voice. yes. So if you type me on the shoulder, say a whole sentence and then I have to go like hold on my adaptive uh headphones haven't start coming out yet let me say in other whole sentence and then can european yourself and then .

IT comes yeah I will say it's really, really good at knowing um like that someone is continuing to talk to you but is just ambient background noise. It's really good distinguish that. So IT keeps IT in transparency mode until you fully stop talking for like a second and a half or so.

But the biggest issue right now is how long IT takes to trigger and untried ger. But of course, they need that because they don't want to get all off all you know, it's annoying in that IT like that IT mutes your your music or your podcast would have been listening to. So I don't know. I'm personally more of of manual pause, take care, but I talk for a while, put back and I think that, like you said, dw, a generation of people are going to eventually grow up in a even in their marketing. They are like now you never need to take your your boss out .

that's literally was in glum baby. You never, I think, to try them. But I have to say if you think they're even slapping impressive in a demo unit where there is probably fifty other people talking and trying .

how all my phone call the sound yeah although super wide band is exclusive to be in newer so you have to use the new phones for that um and then clear calling yeah really though obviously we took we shows that in the video that we made um and IT sounds really good. Remove background noise extremely well.

So this is another thing that like has existed in the iphone for A A one year of off now where there's a talker to switch microphone modes and IT removes background noise and IT works really well.

yeah. And now google or in the event this year, yes. So I thought I was just this year .

I was seventeen. I yeah OK was just for phone calls and it's on by defauts for all.

Yes yeah I think they're they're using some more technologic um because in the video features of the pixel aid they also have magical reader dio O D O. But I think they'll probably eventually rebrand a that name. I think it's just kind of what it's very cool that they showed me a demo of IT and you take a video and IT has a bunch of different sounds. You hit add audio and then IT separates all the sounds and it's like talking wind um nature this and you can adjust each of those individual frequencies to go away. So you can just take the window, you can just take the talking or you can just take the the like I away.

This is going to if this works, the way it's supposed to in the this that was really revolutionizes and me shooting auto of focus videos. That's because every every time I see you out of focus videos, IT is me. IT is a lot of wind and IT is a lot of beeping and train noises. Whatever is going on back there, every single part is just how much can I get rid? Action like a .

Two p dragon, a new snapdragon ship, yeah. So performance and battery life should potentially be improved from that. We'll see.

Two is, uh, they did they have a bunch of news sensors on the back, your rist to potentially have more accurate and more reliable heart rate sensor information. They're basically multiple heart rate senses now. And because they can of the sounds from different part series, they can get more active information.

I think most of that is heart rate. Like heart rate is very important to the pixel watch. And when you listen them talk about the new census, they make a big deal about hea activity.

Well, the thing is, the regular everyday sapling during the course of your day will probably look the same, but it's during a vigorous activity running around high heart rate. Vary type stuff than IT should be more accurate than IT wasn't the past. So we have to test settle.

I'll take you to a practice. Yeah and yeah, there's a couple of futures safety check. nice. So if you walk home, you wants want to be a checking on you. You don't check in and contacts them.

I think safety check h and all these different devices were seeing. This might be like one of the most important features were seeing and like the last year, that is just such a good idea that could make so many people so much safer. And it's feels ics they could have done this five years ago but just like a really simple like hey, i'm walking home check on me if I don't make IT in x amount of time maybe call once someone I know reach a something is .

And I can see you like a lot of the fitbit premium features, but like the one one thing that the apple watch really has over IT is that just has all the exercise stuff just for free. You know there's like fitness plus. Yeah but fitness plus is everything outside of the watch and the watch just kind of like tracks ah it's like all these exercises and stuff.

I don't subscribe to fitness plus apple fitness plus because it's just classes that I don't take, but you're write like tons of fitness tracking from how many steps you take to how long you walk to analyzing your trends and all these other things all built into apple health that's all free. That all just comes with having an iphone and apple watch yeah just cut you.

I just wanted to go state to my like i'm in the google ecosystem for a reason.

Stop pulling me out. It's just a weird like I think that they bought fitbit in order to I get a heads start on of the fitness stuff. But the problem is both the brains are too strong.

I I can kind of understand the first time they did IT because fit did have a good name and people were buying things. But I don't think people were are .

buying fits as smart watches. It's like it's they two three days ago as a recording and IT IT has like a very basic screen that has like the time and maybe it'll send you like icons of unification but is not smart watch. And I think that that's what they're doing on purpose. They are trying to anche IT like if you want a smart band. But i'm wondering how many people still use smart band instead?

I think a lot of people do actually there's like a lot of people, especially i've learned this from, uh, clears insurance as you get like twenty box off a month if you had x amount of steps in a month and I think people will buy cheaper ah yeah activity truckers like that for stuff like that because if you're saving twenty box a month and five bits under two hundred dollars, like you wear that for a few years and your making money you .

used to offer to offer that was just a parameter that you put in the back of shoe. I I wish they would make like an ankle brace lit.

Think about stuff google fit on your phone will just being your pocket and just count your steps and do all that stuff. And the same thing now on the apple watch, this is the iphone this year, the health APP, the fitness APP is on the first. He's counting your steps and counting the data and stuff, but you don't get any that additional information.

I think you still get trends what is like trends of activity up and down over time. Yeah how many steps? No, it's not going to have like lood right but like paci c information.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, we'll try to watch. I'm definitely curious if the bad life is meaningfully different because I was one of my big complaints with the last one when I turned on display on um .

So you can ask google assistance to summarize a what pages that you're on. And I will look at your screen in crime and read the whole world page and give you a generative I A I summary, things like that. So the idea is more of the features from this bar experiment are going to be surfaced.

Two people who use google assistant regularly. Also interesting stuff that that could open up the possibilities of. I'm curious if you guys have favorite stuff that you saw, but I kind like the the summary. What page things seems like very reliable to me if .

I just go real quick because I know David will go on for the next forty five minutes on this. I mean, this is exactly what we just talked about with copilot last week with like amazon alexa and uh check ChatGPT stuff a few weeks ago.

A I inside of the assistance will make these assistance so much Better because it's just like conversation based and they understand context. And this can use your text, voice, images. You can take actions on your phone.

Yeah, all of this is going again by the third we can roll is going to be the new text support that we never after. Again, it's going to make using technology for people who don't know technology, so, so much easier. And that's a huge win.

Yeah yeah. I'm picturing like my my grammar using I don't know if he's going to, but like asking the assistant to do something that you would think is like an insane request. Like can you order the fires from the site, from the thing? And then they just does IT, yes, oh my god.

IT actually work. That's how all of us feel that when somebody asks us something and we're like, like, and just google and like, how do I google? Like, google is very good, just literally what you told me on the phone.

And google pri figures IT out and that's what this is now. And like assistance is just already the best out of all of them. yeah. So now we're getting bad on top of that. yes.

Just going to be also is kind of super charging like a lot of the things that the assistant arty was able to do. And I think when barred first launch, we were kind like, why isn't this? Just google is something Better. And I I am predicting that within the next two years, the barred branding goes away and IT just gets rebundling LED into assistant. You think so this is gonna be like Better google as is.

And every time I reheat the phone out, I would have to be like, I guess we'll see because it's not out at the time of this review. And then the next year, there's another single camera feature and the next year, there's another single camera feature. But you're right now, I feel like there is a couple things, both with cameras and other stuff on the phone that are coming later or that are either about to come out or not yet even double tap on apple, just still not out not out on the watch until sometime soon. I feel every .

in the last apple event had at like two things that weren't coming out when I was launched and IT just makes me think a lot about you've always said like don't buy things based on future promises and we're getting me the point where half of the features or future promises and don't think it's a good look. Yes.

in general, if you are trying to buy any these things, I why IT assuming that, that feature is never going to come. And that's because half of this we're going to talk about the software features on the pixel in a little bit and a lot of them are not going to launch with the phone. I would buy the phone assuming you never get that future. Yeah and maybe someday in the future they'll put IT on the phone. It'll be a bonus for you.

But that's still true about deep fusion. Remember early did anything? Yeah like we waited months for IT and then I came in room, was excited and was like, that maybe .

Right, welcome back. Let's talk. Pixel le smartphones, new generation of pixel phones, pixel eight and eight pro right off the top. More expensive than last year. You've got plus one hundred dollars for each of them, nine ninety nine and six ninety nine.

So six nine nine for the pixel eight, nine ninety nine for the pixel 8 pro。 And so with these higher Prices, we go away. What's new about them? What's more expensive? What's Better about them? And there is quite a few interesting things. I'll start with the new tensor sensor.

It's on the list.

but I can't say I think I made a more expensive. Now tensor g three, that's going to be in both. I think I have a lot of hopes just about efficiency and battery life.

And tester g two was okay, but IT wasn't good. And so I think so I think we're hoping is that tensor g three gives us maybe not a huge improvement on raw power. That wasn't necessarily what I was bad about that, but I was just inefficient and IT was not great with batteries.

So we're hoping for that to be Better. But naturally, the focus of tensor g three is the TPU a lot of AI related features. And i'll get to those a tensor g three.

But then there is there are two new things, which is new cameras and new screens, peace phones. So there's a two different sizes pixel in a pro, different sizes also that a pro is a high resolution as always. But also now the pixel eight is one hundred twenty hurts, so it's no longer IT was ninety hurt previously, so up to one hundred twenty hits is not L T P O.

I think it's one one. The pro is still L P O to one s. Um there are also both flat. I'll just say that yeah, we're not like curbing over the edge on the pro watch, I think is nice. The buzzell look pretty much the same all the way around is no more chin.

Remember how we had like a chin on the previous pixel that slowly been drinking over the years? IT feels like it's pretty much even all the way around. And then they they felt the need to name this new brightness, but they are legitimately some of the brightest screens have ever seen in smart phones. And this is just from the hour that I spent with IT.

But they're calling IT an actual display on the pixel eight and a super display on the eight pro yeah two thousand needs on the pixel eight and twenty four hundred needs on the pixel 8 pro yeah um I will be back checked on this， but i'm fairly sure that's the brightest smart phones screen of in my life. I think the same as up. I find explore right? Okay, I might be I don't know, but I I looked at IT and I said.

oh my god, is the brightest screen i've ever been about seven years o thousand.

Genuinely very impressive. And I know that when I take these things outside, they are going to look great .

outside also claims that can use twenty five hundred. So still .

on a pixel, usually you don't get crazy big hardware numbers. On pixel is all about the software. But that was cool to sea.

Yeah um eight gigs of around with tenor g three battery size are both like a tiny bit bigger than last year, not like a meaningful amount. I think we'll still look for tensor to give us a difference in efficiency. And then new cameras um same primary camera on both is a blue of fifty magic XO sensor. Then you get either the twelve make pixel ultra de on the pixel eight or you get a forty eight makes pixel ultra with mro on the eight pro along side of forty eight mega pixel of five x telephoto on the eight pro. So get a new camera.

So wait, they left the worst ultra de in the regular one and give you a Better ultra with micro o in the yeah I think .

this year they definitely are trying to justify the Price the Price gap yeah because still a three .

hundred dollars rence between the phone yeah and i'm looking at IT like those two phones, three dollars apart have the same tensor g three, have the same primary camera and bow, have incredibly bright hundred twenty years displays that's GTA really start again to find the differences between them.

And it's going to be like, okay, and extra telephoto camera, extra resolution if you want, IT, which is not even on by default t like stuff like that um but that's the main hardware differences. And then once you get in to using the phones, IT is all software baby IT, the classic pixel story of and I think this is probably going to be the theme of the review and eight two p gigs around. Did you say that top on the problem? Yes OK.

So you get more than anybody pay three inter box, you get more RAM, I don't know, maybe, but it's but I think yeah, the story with the pixel is definitely that you you can't just accept that the hardware is just going to be fine. And they've had this design for a couple years now with the visor. And I was actually just thinking about this divisor, which is like so iconic, the pixel is still collects dust like in the corners right above and below. You have this with your pixel, right? It's just like .

IT seems to be something that like a lot of these nor IT specifically happens with the pixel because of the big visor. But filming a lot of macs with iphone, the new lenses on the new iphone do IT all .

around the circles as well. I get bad.

And, uh, I use the case or use the case on my pixel. And when I go climbing, I take the case off this trip. He can both of them yeah, and both unlike the top of the bottom of you.

I guess my point is not not buying a pixel for the hard work quality. It's still going to be it's going to look like a pixel. Uh, so as I think there is now, there's new colors and there's like a sattle back on the pro, which is I like right or sorry yeah on both yes yeah OK which is .

sweet they their matt textured yes the other like a set um but you're .

really buying IT because it's the smartest smart phone is cool assistant you're going about call screening I use call screening IT before .

that all year, all the time. I'm just going to iterate that, that doesn't mean all that takes a hardware sucks IT just means the software is incredible and that's irby. I guess what i'm .

saying if you want to buy a smart phone because that is a crazy biggest numbers in the best hardware, you're not buying the pixel IT, just not the pixel. It's either some shame or are OPPO or samsung phone. There are all have bigger, more impact numbers problem.

I don't know. There is like a slight hill to the camera stuff there. But like you think about one hundred eight zoom when you think about seventy five watch charging. Like, that's not that I .

want to make sure. I know people think that.

called some mbs that I don't know and five times at at ten it's a delivery and the other five times, i'm so glad I had cost screening because they store random person and I just you know, you just hit the button, this a screen, my call and I just some guy going, is this is this markets and I just hit hanging up or just a delivery person going like I am outside and I like pick up or I just say, like, yeah you can leave the package, whatever do stay .

on the phone?

no. So a lot of people, that's another that's another good point. Probably three or four at a ten times when the assistant is done answering the phone, they just hang up right away and I just never find out who was. And that's fine too.

I talk on the phone, but this year the new all assistant is both much more human sounding and will give you context aware chips to press to respond based on what IT hears the person say yes, which means it's A U, P, S. Driver cause, and it's an unknown number and I don't pick up unknown numbers. And I hit screen call and he says, hey, i'm a google assistance screening this call.

Who are you and IT sounds like a human and the person doesn't pick up. They will say hi on the U. P, S. driver.

Have a package for you without me even picking up the call, IT will show a box that I can impress that just says, leave IT on the front porch or something like that. I press IT. IT says IT in a human voice. And the person probably even think twice about the that it's a because the last one sounded such a like robotic people hung up, really a person. Yeti, yeah.

In theory, I think this sounds great. I ll be interested to see how IT does because that last one, I don't know a single person that ever state i'm along in of the old call screening to ever like we're just so used to getting robot calls. I heard the new voice.

I heard the new voice. IT does sound Better. There's a lot of spam. Turn off me.

I guess this just if you're calling someone, you're already expecting to hear a voice picking yeah so they might not even process to the first two words, which are like, I am a google system.

Here's my counter to that. There are fedex people who knock on my door when i'm home, who don't even knock on the door. They just put the mistle every slip on before even knocking. You think those people are going to, like, listened to my robot assistance.

And they probably .

do go to the trouble of calling. And they were expecting a human to pick up. This accomplishes .

the same task. Does this new one can make reservations for you? Are we just done with .

So this is a where IT gets really google. What is a photo? okay? yeah.

First camera feature I thought was fine was the audio magic racer. Yes, I think this was fine. This is erasing background noises or reducing like wind or whatever.

That's not the subject, it's processing that you're gna do in post anyway, sums up yeah Green light for me. Okay, then there's we're already know about magic editor, which let you like you raise. So one from the background, magic, magic, a dated magic or but I guess .

what's that first?

So is that a IT now uses generative A I to fill in those areas? IT used to just use in painting those areas? Yes, quality? yes.

This is a lot higher quality. yeah. yeah. Okay.

but so then there's magic editor, which is IT, analyzes the entire image and lets you move around things, change the size, position, color, texture, weather, sky, change all sorts of things about a photo yeah, and completely change the photo. One version of this is called that take, called yeah. So that take, which is what we are talking about last episode, is basically as we as we thought, IT is a bunch of people.

In one photo, you take a burst of photos. IT looks at all of the photos you took in all the faces and lets you take one base photo with the best face from each of the bursts you from every person in the photos. Yeah, I think that's fine. Yes.

I love IT. I'll also clarify one thing from last year that I realized when I was fighting very hard for this. One of the things David said was like your kids are being demons.

That is a scenario where I guess, like I don't think that makes as much sense because then your kids just being all over the place. This is first scenario where the point of the picture and people in the picture wanted to be a nice picture yeah, and a variable happens. Someone is blink, very like minimal things that are being changed. I think the face shop and that is great. And especially because, like you said, burst of photos, you are trying to take a bunch, assuming a variable was going to have yeah.

yeah. I talked to some the camera engineers at the event today about IT. They said this is a sort of like an evolution of top shot, if you remember that, which was like if you took multiple photos, he would automatically select for for you the best ones that you think we're good.

just everyone that thought was the best. Yeah.

yeah. And so this one is like, as long as you take, I asked them, like, everything about this work. So as long as you take two photos of the same general scene when you edit IT will offer you the option to swap out the face for the face that you took in another shot.

And like they told me this at the event I G with them almost every single time, you like take photos, you take like at least three or four, even if you handed IT to a stranger to habit, strangers do this too. yeah. And this is an interesting, like psychological thing.

I don't really know what we do this. We always do this. To be sure. One more for safety. Yes, takes one photo of you that actually that .

makes perfect sense when i'm like when i'm somewhere and clear iter together and we want a picture together, you hand IT to someone and you don't know what their photo taking capabilities. So you always, just as safety, take multiple photos. And now I get to actually, like, we were trying to take a nice photo just because the personal ended too. Maybe is increate taking photos and this something? Yeah, now I can make you a little nice.

So I read, read IT, and I quote, threat IT, and I said, google P, R team is to get on the stack and because they need to rethinking that and be like if Taylor had a pick, people applied to thread. But IT is so good. So that's .

that's the classic. That is the entire ethos of pixel. We if you were samsung OPPO, you would go, alright, we need a bigger sensor to let more light to have a faster shutter speed.

We need bigger appeal to get more light so that we can freeze the action. So that doesn't happen here and that's always technically correct, but you're still just gonna ss sometimes. And with the pixel, they focus so much on the fixed and post part photo on blur.

Oh, you had a person behind you in the photo. We'll fix IT in post, remove them. Oh, you weren't high enough in the photo.

We'll fix IT in post and IT delicious goes on every single one of these things with the pixel and told us just the story of the entire pixel. Oh, the phone doesn't have a very big battery. X will fix in itself like we'll just have a really smart exactly generate .

Like the reason they said I was only in the pro is that they said they needed more RAM for to be able to shoot IT in that mode before upload to the cloud. okay. And they also the other thing they said, I asked, why are you doing this in the cloud and not on vice device? They said that this is specifically CPU intensive and not TPU intensive. So if I was tp intensive, they could probably on device. But because CPU is Better at the floating point math, that is necessary for this kind of thing they're doing in the server centers OK.

So it's a combination of more RAM on the pro and easy to store more info as your recording in order .

Well, I don't know that's interesting. So but yeah, the idea is you have a video that you really, really deeply care about the quality of for whatever reason. You have video boost turned on.

You take the video IT processes for several hours with this information that you've sent up to the cloud back several hours later over night, next day. And I saw before and after test and the results in google test were incredible. yeah.

But that was much Better H, T R, much Better stabilization, much, much as noise. IT was brighter and and more evenly lit. IT was just a Better color, Better looking video in general. And I kind of wonder, number one, is anybody going to use this? The number two, how good is actually gonna for random stuff that I try?

You know why this is like the perfect way to distinguish like apple versus google is apple is like pro s log on device were just give you all the features that are a regular camera. Has I like a really high bit rate?

So it's apps to the cloud. And a few hours later, IT just shows up in your google photos. So really wondering like when people are going to want to use this um I asked why I was pixel April exclusive and they said only people really want to use this feature. I don't but I would love to see you shoot an auto focus video all with video boost yeah be faster and just see how that looks. The time IT .

takes the process is by the same time IT takes to offline process for the the .

ub iphone actually makes a meaningful difference. But yeah, I am very fast. I'm going to try for sure. Um I will also have to see if audio gets Better with video boost. I don't know .

yeah say I mean being able to do that of samples and made the story zia.

Now I I think ples example that I thought was really good that they showed me and I don't know if anyone else have seen this demo, but IT was a nighttime video like imagining on the streets of york city and you you're in the street, it's really dark and you point IT in like a store front. So it's really bright in the door front, the bright lights.

And there is a very H D R type of scene yeah um when you do a video like that on a lot of smart phones, you get this like HDR processing believed from point lights where you pointed at the at the inside of the store and it's just like overly saturated with light until IT fixes itself and exposes for the store and in the outside is darker. The improved version of this with video a boost was like perfectly will expose the entire time. So it's clearly doing a lot of H D R map with different exposure yeah and like mapping them on top of each other.

And that's very intensive. But I just you know there is going to be I don't know. I'm drawing the conclusion in my head that there's a limited number of special situations where this will make a big difference and then probably a regular video of like me and you in the studio on your phone will not look that much Better after video boost. Yeah, that's what i'm guessing, but I ll have to see what actually happened.

Plus, who is also get invented nights. And I taught he's though, and who like LED this feature. And I asked him to like break IT down for me. And he set a lot of words that I don't understand.

It's super and we are just typing on the keyboard. So just click y really, really strong, really tight. Haptics love seeing that in phones. Good and it's good. Haptic cks are one of the first things .
