The Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol recently faced a severe flaw that threatened their system, as discovered by Asymmetric Research. The vulnerability mainly impacted CosmWasm-based IBC middleware, a crucial component of the IBC protocol suite. IBC middleware enables the smooth integration of ICS20 with other similar IBC protocols, operating similarly to various bridging protocols, ensuring packet transportation from one blockchain to another. The vulnerability potentially allowed an attacker to exploit unlimited IBC tokens by repeating the unfixed bug. Several chains, including Osmosis, were exposed to this issue. The Cosmos HackerOne bug bounty program received a private report about the issue, and it was promptly fixed.
