So let's start with program No. 1, which is the national squirrel census.

那么，让我们从第一个项目开始说起，那就是全国松鼠普查。

Every year, we spend $2.3 million counting squirrels.

每年，我们要花费 230 万美元来统计松鼠的数量。

So effective immediately, squirrels, they're gonna need to start counting themselves now.

Program number two, that's the federal committee on Sandwich Standards.

We spend a whopping $5 million annually just to define what legally qualifies as a sandwich.

“Every year, we spend $2.3 million counting squirrels.” 运用了 “spend + 时间 / 金钱 + (in) doing sth.” 的结构，意思是 “花费时间或金钱做某事”，这里 “in” 可以省略。
