I wanted to share a story with you that I hope brings a little chuckle to your day, but also some pretty deep insights about really making an impact on the life you have and others around you. I yelled at my husband the other day, not at him, but yelled out of my frustrations while I was with him. I was exhausted, stressed out, and feeling squeezed.
Spring break plus friends in town plus too many responsibilities plus early mornings and an attempt to get it all done equals bad mood for Katie. I don't blame myself for having a moment or expressing my anger and frustration, but what happened next made me acutely aware of my energy in this moment and what it created. And that I want to take responsibility for. Here's the scene. Katie yells at hubby.
Hubby takes on this frazzed energy and becomes angry and pissy himself. Hubby is feeding his birds at the time and because he's distracted and angry and emotional, one of his birds gets out and flies away. Hubby is super sad, angry, and in disbelief. Hubby tells me about what happened and I immediately know that my energy transferred to him. End scene.
Later that day, I did my meditation Monday and shared briefly about this lesson of energy transferring. Now I'll share with you what happened next because it's actually pretty miraculous. As soon as my husband told me about the bird, I felt horrible. My mind wanted to make him wrong so I could relieve myself from the guilt. That's your fault that you weren't paying attention. But eventually I took responsibility for that energy.
And I knew I could take responsibility for the energy of a solution. After calming myself down and letting go of all the ego attached to what happened, the fear, the guilt, the sadness, etc. I simply imagined the bird flying back to his cage. For the rest of the day, I let myself imagine my husband just finding the bird next to his cage. The image popped up half a dozen times and I just simply saw it.
I let go of the quote unquote reality of how completely unlikely this vision was. I let go of any attachment to needing it to happen in order to absolve myself and ease his pain. I just saw the vision over and over again. You're never going to believe what happened. The bird was waiting for him the next morning on the cage, just like I imagined. He got him easily and brought him back to safety.
When he told me, I jumped up and down and told him about the vision. I really got it. Our energy transfers. If you take ownership of this, it's definitely going to require that you break down your ego a little bit, but it will also open up enormous power to you. So right now, in this moment, take a little inventory of your energy. What emotions are you feeling?
What thoughts are moving around? What kind of feelings are you having in your body? If your energy is not one of peace, that's okay. But just know that coming back to center is just a few breaths away. Who you are and how you move through this world impacts others for the better or for the worse.
